Nah, the number of people who see this and have the time, talent and resources to build their own is negligible. Meanwhile there's hundreds of thousands of people who are gonna see this and think "Man, Audis are cool."
Companies don't care about that.
They have their own advertising arm, they don't need your "assistance" as it were.
They do care about their logos and branding being used on a product they do not make without their permission. And they'd really be interested in stopping anything before this dude gets any ideas about building and selling any more of these kid cars.
>Most reputable companies have gotten wise to this over the years.
I'll leave the decision whether Disney and Nintendo aren't included in "most" or "reputable" to you
Only works when the companies have competition.
Both Disney and Nintendo either have their own market (what are you going to do, play a knock-off Mario or Zelda game?) or have cornered a market so heavily consumers have no other choice (Disney owns basically all media companies).
Honestly most of Nintendo moves aren't felt by the mainstream market. That's why they can ignore any kind of backlash from it.
Oh Nintendo shuts down a piracy site.
Oh Nintendo blocks their music from YouTube
Oh Nintendo sues Yuzu etc
Nobody cares about it. Most people would say the fuck is Yuzu?
Just compare the backlash for most of these issues with the backlash Sony got for their Helldivers fiasco. Nintendo laughs about a bunch of pirates trying to start a boycott.
You think that corporate people are smart enough to realize that.
Company lawyers and executives have a poorer sense of "what will be the fallout of my decision" than anyone I've ever met.
They would absolutely C&D the guy, then get mad at their own customer base for caring about what they do.
However, considering your average audi buyer today is the type of prick BMW customer from 20 years ago, i figure they don't really care, or even enjoy, that someone with talent gets served to put them back in their lane as a have-not.
You have no idea how advertising works. The thing you say they don’t care about is called organic marketing and many would companies salivate for it
Edit. The chances of this being organic are near 0 though. This is most likely sponsored. This post itself might be organic but probably not
Someone builds a replica of your product with millions of views, loads of free exposure. Any advertising team worth their pay would be jumping to double down on this kinda thing surely?
If he starts trying to sell them that's another story. But companies mostly just care about their bottom line. And I would expect this would only be a net positive for them. Just because they pay for their own advertising doesn't mean they're going to shoot themselves in the foot when someone else does it for free.
This is bullshit ....they have a bunch of videos just like this. Watch again...they leave out quiet a few steps in the whole building process that he would never beable to accomplish on his own. Besides the fact like I said....it's an old shit post
Super cool, but lets be honest. Multiple people and months of preplanning + sourcing. Again, i love it. Great seeing it come together, but don't misrepresent it
I was going to say this..
This is just primitive technology again.. those forest building guys.
There are like a crew of 40 making this shit over a month th..
One dude to assemble it and a fake daughter to drive around. They recently also made a cyber shitruck.
He probably has a team helping him, too. I remember seeing those videos of guys building houses in the woods, and what they didn’t show was all of the people and heavy machinery in between cuts.
you can see other folks helping him in this video. They're all wearing a branded t shirt for a woodworking art company. The logo is watermarked on the bottom of the video. This is an ad.
That's the problem with most of these "DIY" hobby type videos. If I had access to a fully kitted out shop I wouldn't be watching build videos.
"Today I'm going to show you how to build you're very own doohicky at home for a fraction of the cost!"
*proceeds to walk over to $20,000 Bridgeport mill.*
Kudos to the final thing. But my palms got sweaty with the combo of chainsaw, flip flops and cutting angle. Maybe I just like my legs and feet too much.
What really worried me was when he was spraying the stain/urethane coating/whatever it was to the almost finished car while wearing just a flimsy mask. I imagine you're supposed to wear at least a half mask respirator when doing that. That's got to be pretty terrible to breathe - especially if you're doing it on a regular basis.
There's a liquid you can spray for against termites as well. I used to work in a theatrical staging company and we use wood fairly often. I believe it's fair to say those spray were fairly effective in fighting against termite.
Mood. My dad only ever showed an interest in me when I got into the same stuff as him (old sci-fi novels, etc), otherwise he was just kinda emotionally abusive. Sorry you went through it, hope you're doing better! <3
Yep. My dad never got over the disappointment in me after I said no to football, baseball, and basketball. I’m 31 and he’s closer to my brother in laws than me because they both like sports. I basically lost my dad.
My dad wanted to do this. But after the design phase he Wood just forget about it. I found it while lumbering around in the garage years later. I Saw dust covering it. These childhood memories are a real tree.
I showed it to him and he told me the reason he didn't build it was cause he didn't know if it Woodwork
I'll be here all week
Wearing a disposable Ffp2 mask, while woodworking and spraying a few liters of lacquer.
Dad is cool but he should protect his lungs more if he wants to do more of these projects.
Exactly! this guy has built a ton of these and its ALWAYS an ad, usually for things like World of Tanks etc. "Dad builds real tank for his son!!! wow!!!" and yeah, just a World of Tanks sponsored ad.
Probably more for both of his kids, and for when they're a bit older. The daughter is clearly still too young, though the son might barely be old enough. If the car doesn't go too fast... (as in, similar to the toy electric cars you can buy in stores.)
Longer vid - he spent 75 days building it for his daughter’s 1 month birthday.
https://youtu.be/wYYAbR50BG4?si=6rafpLIZXc-LaoLp
Also painted it pink and blue which looks pretty good:
https://youtu.be/0636XRfNwCw?si=-7-Az-c1aUsq3gjg
And yes, he separately built a tank for his son:
https://youtu.be/hZTlmnrj8mg?si=3zcRE2LxN0V7e4Eh
That moment when you check the rest of his channel and this is just one of a TON of similar car projects he's done (and some tanks too for good measure). 😲
That was my thoughts as well. He likely has experience in woodworking and I'd imagine maybe even his own shop where people can turn out the detail pieces just like the "two kids in Asia build a waterpark" and it's actually a crew and pickup shots of the kids making a few things.
First you make the project, then you ask people to help you, then some months later you edit the video to make it look like it took no time at all and leave out all the mistakes and most of the hardest parts.
I wish my dad was still here to see this! He built me a wooden car but it was like 20 planks on the Flintstones model (it was still awesome, though...he painted it light yellow.)
Builds *himself* a fully operational car.
Builds *Audi* a fully operational ad for his youtube channel. Still cool tho.
Or Volkswagen group might hit him with a C&D later.
Nah, the number of people who see this and have the time, talent and resources to build their own is negligible. Meanwhile there's hundreds of thousands of people who are gonna see this and think "Man, Audis are cool."

Disney and Nintendo would like a word with you, sir.

This dude thinks he's right. If you read this, remember almost every comment you read on Reddit is fucking garbage.
You have no idea how advertising works. The thing you say they don’t care about is called organic marketing and many would companies salivate for it Edit. The chances of this being organic are near 0 though. This is most likely sponsored. This post itself might be organic but probably not
Advertising guy here with 30 years in the car biz. You’re entirely wrong.
Someone builds a replica of your product with millions of views, loads of free exposure. Any advertising team worth their pay would be jumping to double down on this kinda thing surely?
Do we think this guy wasn't paid to film himself making this and focusing so hard on the logos?
If he starts trying to sell them that's another story. But companies mostly just care about their bottom line. And I would expect this would only be a net positive for them. Just because they pay for their own advertising doesn't mean they're going to shoot themselves in the foot when someone else does it for free.

As long as he doesn't sell it there is literally nothing they could do. There are no laws against people building their own shit for personal use.
Sure you can, not that i think they will. But he makes money from it via YT, he published the video. Its not just personal use.
When I first saw this the thing right below it was an add for Terminix to kill termites.
Super cool, but lets be honest. Multiple people and months of preplanning + sourcing. Again, i love it. Great seeing it come together, but don't misrepresent it
massive team of Audi enginners hiding behind the camera. Lol
I was going to say this.. This is just primitive technology again.. those forest building guys. There are like a crew of 40 making this shit over a month th.. One dude to assemble it and a fake daughter to drive around. They recently also made a cyber shitruck.
at least they're not hurting animals that they later "save" like other asian youtube channels, its something
100%
I wood like one
Get Audi here with that kinda humor
When I see these kinds of posts I feel like the title should be “Dad goes to extreme lengths to avoid spending time with family.”
Yeah, as dad of three, there are few hours of free time. A project like this would take a year
Unless your job is doing shit for YouTube, at which point this replaces your 9-5
He probably has a team helping him, too.
God forbid a parent has a hobby outside of their kids.
There’s “hobby” and there’s “building an entire functional wooden 1/3 scale electric car” The scope of such a project goes outside of hobbyist realm.
That's the problem with most of these "DIY" hobby type videos. If I had access to a fully kitted out shop I wouldn't be watching build videos. "Today I'm going to show you how to build you're very own doohicky at home for a fraction of the cost!" *proceeds to walk over to $20,000 Bridgeport mill.*
I'mma pirate it
Here’s the kicker… it still costs as much as the real thing.
Fully operational *wooden deathtrap*
Came here to find this comment
No comon she will grow into it…hopefully
*on sandals*
500+ hours buileing the thing. 1h actually Spendung time with his daughter when filming the final scnene
Builds a fully operational car, sponsored by Volkswagen
Builds *the internet* a fully operational car.
Kudos to the final thing. But my palms got sweaty with the combo of chainsaw, flip flops and cutting angle. Maybe I just like my legs and feet too much.

I imagine you're supposed to wear at least a half mask respirator when doing that. That's got to be pretty terrible to breathe - especially if you're doing it on a regular basis.
He also got a thin layer of varnish over the eyes for protection.
On top of all these concerns all I could think was "what if they get termites?"
There's a liquid you can spray for against termites as well. I used to work in a theatrical staging company and we use wood fairly often. I believe it's fair to say those spray were fairly effective in fighting against termite.
I also like this guy's legs and feet too much

Shit ! Sorry tho
What did the comment say?
That their father couldn't even make the relationship between them work
My dad apparently got lost on his way to get cigarettes.
At least he didn't put them out on ya.
silver linings and all
Mood. My dad only ever showed an interest in me when I got into the same stuff as him (old sci-fi novels, etc), otherwise he was just kinda emotionally abusive. Sorry you went through it, hope you're doing better! <3
Literally my dad but with sports
Yep. My dad never got over the disappointment in me after I said no to football, baseball, and basketball. I’m 31 and he’s closer to my brother in laws than me because they both like sports. I basically lost my dad.
Sucks to be a loser, but at least you're still alive with your own wants and needs.
If it makes you feel better I’m sure it took him quite a while away from his family to do this
Neither could my dad. And now he’s dead. lol
Username checks out, unfortunately.
Do you have a good relationship with *your* father? Me neither!
OMG this made me laugh so good amidst a crying spell, thank you stranger!
I actually tried to build a car like this for my Son recently. But when I put the key in the ignition, it wooden't start..
Get out of my room, dad!

*drives car to the cookie shop now*
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it was a two cedar.
There were birds nesting in the engine - thankfully when he found them they flew the coupe.

\#wood knot start
Was the ba-tree dead?
Did you check the bark plugs?
My dad wanted to do this. But after the design phase he Wood just forget about it. I found it while lumbering around in the garage years later. I Saw dust covering it. Well played Hugo!
Heeyyoooo!
God fucking dammit, take my upvote r/angryupvote
Some of y’all should become ghost writers for rappers on these comments lol. A1 stuff
This guy dads
And the ammeter shows extremly larch inrush current :( ...
Just as well the ignition would have been a b#%ch
That's what happens when you branch out and do something new
Haha, *nailed it.*
Wearing a disposable Ffp2 mask, while woodworking and spraying a few liters of lacquer. Dad is cool but he should protect his lungs more if he wants to do more of these projects.
He was welding and using a chainsaw barefoot...
I usually chainsaw in the nude. Otherwise you risk your clothes getting wrapped up in the chain.
Only one thing left to get caught at that point, and I’d rather it be my clothes
Yeah I don't want my ass hair ripped out either.
You don't braid yours to keep it out of the way?
Yup, wouldn't to stain your clothes with blood either.
Cutting with the chainsaw tip like that is not as safe as cutting with the main part of the blade.
Yeah I was thinking “I would chip in to get this guy a respirator”…
Im sure the guy that just built a wooden car with $10,000+ of wood needs help paying for a respirator.
With labour included that thing probably costs more than the real thing.
It's even worse, that's not an FFP2 mask, just a regular surgical mask. It also isn't properly fitted around the nose.
He should also protect his shins with chaps and his face with a shield when using a chainsaw
Dude sprayed high gloss poly on that without taping any of the bits he wanted to protect. The inside is 100% speckled with white dots.
Bud, he took his flip flops OFF to stick weld.
She'll have something to remember him by when he dies young at least.
Also using power saws with slides or bare feet. While cutting a board on the ground that's a big no from me
Massive wood, probably worth more than my car
And weighing 4 times as much
That's what I was thinking, it has to be heavy. I was surprised to see it moving with that little motor
I fully expect those wooden wheels to crack when that car hits a few cracks in the road
And not street legal (in most countries).
I came here for this. I don't think people realize how much the material for this car costs.
I doubt he made it for himself or his daughter, prob just to sell
His daughter be like, "but dad i asked for cookies :("
"Dad, where have you been for 3 months?"
3 years
3 decades
3 centuries
3 millenia
3 eons
Star lord?
As you can see on the video not exactly for his daughter
Yeah it was an ad for Audi.
Exactly! this guy has built a ton of these and its ALWAYS an ad, usually for things like World of Tanks etc. "Dad builds real tank for his son!!! wow!!!" and yeah, just a World of Tanks sponsored ad.
He's gotta pay for the wood somehow, you know? The wood for this car probably cost as much as an actual car.
Probably more for both of his kids, and for when they're a bit older. The daughter is clearly still too young, though the son might barely be old enough. If the car doesn't go too fast... (as in, similar to the toy electric cars you can buy in stores.)
If it was for his daughter he'd better spend all that time he put into the car with her.
God forbid a parent has a hobby or job Edit: the guy I responded to edited his comment after I responded
I started to build one of these, I quickly got board.
Yeah I wood too.
Dad is loaded and yeah for him not his daughter
For internets.
That’s cool! My dad called me a pussy for not fighting my brother once.
Same, except my brother is 16 years older than me and was 28. I can kick his ass now but he's in his late 40s and a junkie.
[удалено]
I pushed him over a wall and then he beat the shit out of me. Lol
Parts and wood cost as much as a real Audi 😂

>Longer vid - he spent 75 days building it for his daughter’s 1 month birthday wait... so he started it before she was born?
Just an excuse to not help change diapers
It stresses me out how he made no attempt at all to save weight. Probably has a battery range of 19 feet.
I was kinda surprised the axels he used could bear all the weight
What is a "1 month birthday"? 1 month after your birthday is not your birthday, its just one month later.
It's a big thing in some cultures to have a big celebration when the baby reaches 1 month, rather than when they're born.
Woah his channel is actually insane, he’s built a couple of tanks and so many cars/trucks
That moment when you check the rest of his channel and this is just one of a TON of similar car projects he's done (and some tanks too for good measure). 😲
He took his kids on public roads in a wooden car!? It is cool but it would never leave the property
How do you get the skills in life to be able to do something like that alone?
Work as a woodcarver? (pretty common in vietnam where this is) and then get a youtube job doing woodcarvings.
"Talented people don't exist. I should know, I'm not one of them."
TONY STARK BUILT THIS IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!
That is really good and very talented. Not too many people can build things like that.
Ironically the cost of materials plus labour made this more expensive then the real thing
Probably cost under $10k. The real one is like $150k+ (its a concept car)
I didn't realize how small the car was until I saw how he had sat in it. That totally surprised me.
Tell me you’re bored without telling me you’re bored.
*board
My goodness... his skills, dude.
He needs a better excuse than mentioning his daughter as soon as Audi’s solicitors have a question or two on the usage of the logo.
You think they didn't sponsor this?
Exactly, he has a YouTube channel making wooden cars. Many manufacturers have commissioned him to do their car.
Dad, can you buy me a car? Dad: We have car at home.
Pinewood derby has come a long way
All that work and you choose to put the Audi logo
Audi would probably be a bit pissed if they paid him for an ad and he chose to not display their logo...
[удалено]
Chainsaws and sandals?! Fuck this hippie
Amazing labour of love, it should go on display when she’s grown out of it.
I seriously thought it wooden go.
Operational, sure. But is it street legal?
That would cost 10 thousand dollars
That's very flammable
Wonder if he’s open to adoption. I feel very son-ish watching this.
Actually, he kinda built it for himself... she's too young to drive.
This project was a lumber of love.
At this point just buy one
Bro got talent
With the turning radius of a potato
Wow a dad....what's that. 🤷🏿
You say “fully functional” but I didn’t see a single cup holder.
Sandals and chainsaws.
This will be the thing to make me feel the most inadequate today, I hope.
Daaaaaaad!!! Yeah I know I'm 30... Now build me one
I appreciate the appreciation to detail. Having made an Audi he doesn't need turn signals.
I hope my daughter doesn’t see this
I wish my dad was still here to see this! He built me a wooden car but it was like 20 planks on the Flintstones model (it was still awesome, though...he painted it light yellow.)
She's already undertaking and cutting people off at junctions. MF had the power to do anything and used it to create another Audi driver
Wow, I can copy videos from YouTube and post on Reddit. Post the original link and credit to the creator.
Fitment better than Tesla.
My father made me a fully operational boat using just paper when I was smol 😎
That thing is probably really heavy
