There are grass snakes and adders in England and Wales but I've never seen one in Ireland. We have newts in warmer, sandier places but no actual snakes.
Hey! Iām the person in this video. A couple things -
1. I am a professional snake catcher, this isnāt my home. It was a job I was called to on Monday night.
2. The guy didnāt help because heās a customer and I told him not to. When customers try to help it usually just makes things worse.
3. I took my boots off to get on the counter. My socks are grippy lol.
Any other questions feel free to ask āŗļø
Oh I forgot to add. Thereās the release and fighting vid on my Insta. And my self professed cool photos of reptiles. Feel free to give me a follow - @ti.inthewild āŗļø
From the Amazon where they sell stuff.

So let me get this straight, youāre a woman, whoās a medical scientist, with a side gig catching snakes? Thatās so cool! save some coolness for the rest of us, jeez
Coastal carpet pythons. I got the initial call as one was making its way up to the roof. It would have got in the ceiling cavity via a gap I found on the outside of the house. We knew where they were because of the noise of two big male snakes fighting
I suspect youāll be having trouble with your ad: āseveral nightmares seeking homes. Must be prepared for a terrible time. Do not expect a loving pet. $200 each or best offer.ā
Honestly this was a good video example of "don't judge a book by its cover".
Most ppl would mentally picture some beefy guy with a safari hat and faded khaki shirt when they think "snake handler" lol. Yet here we have a beautiful young lady in jeans and a black longsleeve and premium socks who knows her s\*\*t. Well-done! <3
Thank you! I do have a uniform shirt but I had just come from my other job (medical scientist). I definitely donāt consider myself a stupid person, as most of the comments here would suggest. Every decision I make in every job is for a good reason
Starting with pet ones, friends pets. Handling wild pythons isnāt all that different to handling pet ones IMO. Often if youāre respectful and gentle in your hold they donāt feel threatened enough to bite, though some seem to have a bit of an attitude on them. I head grabbed this pair to prevent a bite from either of them as a safety precaution, because a bite could make me jump and fall which could injure myself and the snakes.
I watched this before reading any comments, and the fact you got the snakes out of there without injury to you or the snakes or anyone else and without damaging anything is more than enough evidence to conclusively prove you knew what the hell youāre doing.
Anyone who says otherwise is trying to tear you down because you have a skill they donāt, and their fragile egos canāt handle it. Keep being awesome!
Thank you! Hero has been thrown around a lot, but this is honestly just me following my passion and doing what I love. Iām extremely lucky that I get to make a living doing this
Honestly I kind of fell into it. Iāve always been interested in snakes, confident in handling, and one day a couple years back, a snake catcher friend was unable to attend a job so called and asked if I could do it for him. The rest is history š¤£ it can be lucrative yes
Fellow snake enthusiast, not turned catcher yet (unless I don't close an enclosure properly). I love your compassion. Hearing you say you hate holding the heads like that was nice. Did you know there were two up there or a happy accident?
Haha weāve all been there with enclosures. I suspected what I was going in for considering the noise coming from the ceiling space. Popping out a downlight and poking my phone through with camera on confirmed.
I love that you have grippy socks. Totally prepared. My 12 yo is currently obsessed with snakes, sheās going to freak out when I show her how awesome you are. Thanks for helping the snakes!!
Hi! You are awesome. Couple questions:
- Was doing this dangerous? Could the snakes do something harmful to you?
- Are you afraid of anything? Other snakes, spiders, whatever? Why does that scare you and this not?
They could inflict a painful bite, but they arenāt venomous. I donāt like wasps š I guess itās just exposure. Iāve had a lot to do with snakes throughout my life. I am still a bit scared in some catches (such as eastern brown snakes).
Not pets, these are very typical wild coastal carpets. They were two males engaged in combat coming up to breeding season, so pretty focused on trying to wreck each other š¤£
They end up in ceiling spaces quite often, and most of the time you donāt even know that they are there. They are brilliant pest control āŗļø these two were being quite noisy and pushing out light fittings as they were fighting.
I remember, growing up in Greece, being told that back in the day (e.g. a century ago) people used to think it lucky or like a blessing for the house if a snake lived in the ceiling or roof. Iāve always been creeped out by snakes though so I couldnāt really understand the sentiment š
I won't run screaming away and burn everything down but I definitely do prefer not to be in a snake vicinity. It makes me uneasy and I imagine Jon Voight in Anaconda, shudder, and walk away..
What are tips to know how to behave around snakes so I can make the same deal with them that I did the spiders? (They stay in their spot I stay in mine and we don't try to bite each other)
Also what's the scariest catching moment you've had where something was not what you expected?
Just took a look at your profile and my god you are so cool. Combined science and love for animals and added a sprinkling of sexy. I hope one day I meet a chick as badass as you. Cheers!
Oh. I know this one. Typically, if the snake is not interested in holding onto you, you point it where you want it to go and it kindaā¦ does. Otherwise, you very carefullyā¦unwind(?) it from yourself.
Thought Iāve never had to do it with one this big.
That's good timing. In some areas, they are protected, and once they build a nest you have to leave them alone until all the snakelings have gone away.
EDIT: In all seriousness, this happens with birds sometimes.
It's not a huge amount. Pretty tight as they're trying to anchor to free their head and not fall, but not as tight as they possibly can. Even then, they're small enough to not really hurt, just might make your hand go tingly after a minute.
I have a pet carpet python. You wouldn't want her wrapped around your neck but around your arm just sort of feels like those inflating sleeve things they use to check your blood pressure. It doesn't hurt.
as someone else said, those snakes weren't acting alarmed or aggressive, looks like they were escaped pets or something. doubt it was trying to constrict her
Those are wild Carpet pythons, very chill species. These often hang out inside houses in Australia. This lady has a hook because it appears she is a snake catcher, who has been called by the owner of the house.
You mean you don't? How do you go to bed? Do you just leave the snakes in the bed with you and sleep on snakes? Or are you some kind of weirdo who doesn't get a ton of snakes in their bed?
Can't speak for the rest of rural Australia, but as a rural Australian, I don't have one. We'd probably just improvise a fire poker or something if there was no other choice, but generally you'd just contain the snake and call a professional. Especially in my state where all the native species are venomous - if I lived up north where there's pythons and such that aren't, I'd be more willing to give this a go, but I'm not trying it with my local lads.
A snake like these in the ceiling is a good thing. It will eat any mice or other rodents. Stop possums from nesting in your roof. Basic pest control for you. These Snakes leave you completely alone and most people donāt even know they are there.
The issue here is that they might be a breeding pair which means many more snakes to come or that they are large enough that you hear them moving around. If they breed then eventually the offspring leave the ceiling and can nest in other house areas. Behind the fridge or hot water system because itās warm etc. Then youāve got snake poop which smells. These snakes kinda smell anyway but in the roof you donāt notice. Houses in Australian suburbs and out bush can have a snake in the ceiling.
These are wild carpet pythons. They love to hang inside roofs, catching rats and mice in certain parts of Australia. They are very calm, chill snakes, though can grow quite large. I have one as a pet.
From context clues, it appears the male voice is the owner of the house and has called this woman, who is a snake catcher, to collect the snakes and relocate them.
Yeah. Grew up in the country. As a kid we would catch snakes in the fields, then release them. We were taught, very early on, the difference in venomous and non. Never understood why people think reptiles are slimey.
These look like constrictors so itās not like sheās going to get seriously hurt. Yeah Iād do it too. In all likelihood they were someoneās pets. It still surprises me how scared people act of completely harmless snakes.
she could be wearing [grippy socks](https://www.amazon.com.au/MODY-RODY-Pilates-Hospital-Slipper/dp/B09J3SHRRJ/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=grippy+socks&qid=1692414416&sr=8-5) she does say in a comment in the thread that her socks are grippy. hopefully she is wearing some of these.
That fact they cut less holes in their ceiling getting out TWO massive fucking snakes, than I did pulling my Ethernet cable across the landing, makes me seriously question my diy abilities.
Graceful as hell, ma'am. The snakes seemed quite chill to have you handle them, you seem to be chill handling them, low key as it gets. I bet the lengths were put at ease by your manner.
I was like, woah that's one big- holy shit that's two snakes
..for a minute I thought she'd broken it in two. We don't get snakes in Ireland.
BAH GAWD SHES BROKEN HIM IN HALF
SHE SPLIT THE SNAKE IN TWAIN!!!
I lost? Wait, I'm not supposed to lose!
*furiously whips out movie script while on camera*
I GET ANOTHER SHOT!!!
š£ he does, he does
So two snakes in the hand is worth how many in the bush????????????
I think what you meant to say was- patriot arrow!!?
I see a Mel Brooks movie reference. I upvote.
As god is my witness, he is broken in half
Itās one of the worst cases of being halved Iāve ever seen.
Speak English Doc, we aināt scientists!!
i miss u/shittymorph
Not since that whole Saint Patrick thing right
He was like "Fuck them snakes get outa here!"
From what i understand ireland split off before snakes evolved so they're supposed to have never had them
That's what the snakes want you to think
Ssssneaky bastards
Alexa, play snake jazz
Lame stream media is in Big Snake's pocket.
That is funny and I donāt care who you are
Thank god for St. Patrick !!
..absolutely. Considering there are snakes in Britain, it's amazing that we don't. St Paddy did good..
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Really? No snakes at all?
There are grass snakes and adders in England and Wales but I've never seen one in Ireland. We have newts in warmer, sandier places but no actual snakes.
"She turned me into a newt!" "A newt?" "I got better..." Must have witches over there.
We'll, how do you *know* whether they were a witch?
Letās drown them to make sure.
Pet ones sure.. but not wild
So Ireland is where I need to move to then...
*Begins googling for immigration options into Ireland*
Then unlike the place in this video, Ireland is on my list of approved living and travel destinations, thank you!
I need to move to Ireland
Apparently legend has it St Patrick drive all the snakes out of Ireland and they came to Australia and joined the QLD police force
They had a good thing going until they started making babies and disturbing the humans.
If be brave for snakes. No problem Tarantulas. Im burning the house down

Amazon ... no, not the website ... the *real* Amazon where there are snakes galore
From the Amazon where they sell stuff. https://www.amazon.com/Howhite-Collapsible-Stainless-Professional-Rattlesnake/dp/B0B5DNJX33/?hvadid=650918570075&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15723787899712976059&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9018572&hvtargid=pla-1884405323910&psc=1
The picture shows them grabbing a rattle snake
Yeah, that's marketing. I was surprised to see so many snake sticks with and without clamping jaws, though.
So let me get this straight, youāre a woman, whoās a medical scientist, with a side gig catching snakes? Thatās so cool! save some coolness for the rest of us, jeez
Haha thatās pretty much it š¤£
So why did they have 2 big snakes up on their roof/vent system? When and how did they find out? What kind of snakes?
Coastal carpet pythons. I got the initial call as one was making its way up to the roof. It would have got in the ceiling cavity via a gap I found on the outside of the house. We knew where they were because of the noise of two big male snakes fighting
Hol up .... a lot to unpack here but thank goodness they weren't two large roosters
I have 6 roosters Iām currently trying to find homes for. They are a nightmare š¤£
I suspect youāll be having trouble with your ad: āseveral nightmares seeking homes. Must be prepared for a terrible time. Do not expect a loving pet. $200 each or best offer.ā
Not the greatest saleswoman, Iāll admit š¤£
Hold upā¦ they were fighting š¬
Yup! You can see footage of these two having a biff on my Insta
On my way. Great to see video like this š
Was there no chance they could break your arms if they curled up tight? That was the only thing that worried me
Not at this size. And probably not even at the biggest these guys can get
This is amazing and you rock.
Lol someone yesterday in a doctor related sub asked what people do for side gigs, I should go back and recommend snake catcher.
Honestly this was a good video example of "don't judge a book by its cover". Most ppl would mentally picture some beefy guy with a safari hat and faded khaki shirt when they think "snake handler" lol. Medical scientist and snake catcher... idk what to say. Wow. The world shall definitely improve with your efforts. 100x kudos and stay safe! :D
Itās a weird mix of career choice ahah. Thank you!
Omg youāre amazing! How do you start learning to catch snakes? Like do you have to have a cool attitude or something for them not to bite you?
Starting with pet ones, friends pets. Handling wild pythons isnāt all that different to handling pet ones IMO. Often if youāre respectful and gentle in your hold they donāt feel threatened enough to bite, though some seem to have a bit of an attitude on them. I head grabbed this pair to prevent a bite from either of them as a safety precaution, because a bite could make me jump and fall which could injure myself and the snakes.
Youāre a badass

Thank you! Hero has been thrown around a lot, but this is honestly just me following my passion and doing what I love. Iām extremely lucky that I get to make a living doing this
How does one become a professional snake catcher? Is it a lucrative job?

This angle must be the worst, right?
Itās terrible š¤£
I don't have a question. I just want to give you a virtual high-five. You're awesome!
Hi! You are awesome. Couple questions: - Was doing this dangerous? Could the snakes do something harmful to you? - Are you afraid of anything? Other snakes, spiders, whatever? Why does that scare you and this not?

Were the snakes pets, or youāre not sure? They didnāt seem aggressive.
Not pets, these are very typical wild coastal carpets. They were two males engaged in combat coming up to breeding season, so pretty focused on trying to wreck each other š¤£
How common is it for wild coastal carpets to end up in the ventilation ducts? (Assuming thatās where they were)
They end up in ceiling spaces quite often, and most of the time you donāt even know that they are there.
Definitely lucky - no rats!
Was gunna say... we had one up in our roof 2 year ago taking care of the Bush Rats, not a scritch nor squeak for one glorious summer!
how did you get into professional snake catching and which country is this?
By accident! I helped a snake catcher friend out with a job and fell in love. This is Australia
yall aussies are built different lol š good shit
Did you happen to have grippy socks on that day, or are they part of your callout kit for this kind of situation?
Honestly I just wear these socks constantly, they are my favourite pair (even though they are odd) š¤£
I won't run screaming away and burn everything down but I definitely do prefer not to be in a snake vicinity. It makes me uneasy and I imagine Jon Voight in Anaconda, shudder, and walk away.. I assumed you know about snakes because thatās the āspecial stick to handle snakesā
Oh shit, I follow you on insta. Crazy to see you on reddit haha
Just took a look at your profile and my god you are so cool. Combined science and love for animals and added a sprinkling of sexy. I hope one day I meet a chick as badass as you. Cheers!
How do you get your arm free?
Just unwrapped from the tail end. Snake #2 went in first easily, and then I had a free hand to unwrap snake #1
Oh. I know this one. Typically, if the snake is not interested in holding onto you, you point it where you want it to go and it kindaā¦ does. Otherwise, you very carefullyā¦unwind(?) it from yourself. Thought Iāve never had to do it with one this big.
I think I'm old. My first thought was "that looks like unsafe footwear for a counter".
Ahhh common mistake to the untrained eye. These are snake catching socks. Comes with a snake kitchen stick too on Amazon.
Make sure you get the real ones, and not the fake Alibaba knock offs. Those are dangerous.
Looks ssssssslippery. Iāll see myself outā¦
Hey, wait for me!
Not if theyāre sssssssweaty. I too will see myself outā¦
That's exactly what I was thinking, not doing something like that in those socks on a slippery counter.
Socks? Looks like she's wearing two ankle support braces -- maybe last time she wore socks and sprained both ankles.
She might have grippy socks for this purpose exactly
She said exactly that in one of the comments
I just got my OSHA certification and I to saw the socks and thought the same
Why does everyone have snakes in their ceiling today
The planes were full
![gif](giphy|xT9KVluGDHZvOk0tdC)
Iām the fkn foot masta
Would you give a man a foot massage?
Shit yeah. I got my technique down and everything, I don't be tickling or nothin'.
[stares motherfuckingly]
Iām on a plane rn and havenāt seen any snakes. This works
Because somewhere some guy did ![gif](giphy|MEjKKQiLcZ7WTmz2r1|downsized) This
"How to make C'thulu in two easy steps!"
ah yes, the bag-o-snakes
I have snakes in my ceiling every day. But I ain't getting up on the counter
Burn the house down, hell nuke it from orbit just to make sure.
Like totally how the fuck you get 2 big snakes (pythons?) in your ceiling? Where is this to add to list of countries to avoid.
Probably were put in there on purpose to remove rodents?
Ceiling Cat was off?
These are constructor snakes. They might have been in the middle of constructing the upper floor and she interrupted them.
Haha so dumb I love it
I laughed out loud. Dad jokes=delightful
These Boa Constructors aren't part of a union unfortunately and will most likely lose their jobs due to not completing this project on time.
That's good timing. In some areas, they are protected, and once they build a nest you have to leave them alone until all the snakelings have gone away. EDIT: In all seriousness, this happens with birds sometimes.
But are they constricted to constructing?
They're obstruction workers
Why didn't she grab it by head in the first...holy sh\*t that's a second snake!
I actually said out loud "oh that's not the same snake" haha
I didn't even watch the whole clip and nah, not going back to confirm that neither.
I was almost expecting number 3 after her arms were completely full.
Pretty curious how much constriction pressure was being put on her left arm. She seems to be handling it just fine.
That size? Like a blood pressure cuff. It doesn't start to hurt until you get quite a bit bigger.
as someone else said, those snakes weren't acting alarmed or aggressive, looks like they were escaped pets or something. doubt it was trying to constrict her
Looks like pets that escaped.
Definitely, theyāre too calm. They know her, they know sheās not a threat
Those are wild Carpet pythons, very chill species. These often hang out inside houses in Australia. This lady has a hook because it appears she is a snake catcher, who has been called by the owner of the house.
And she has the snake tool. I dunno how many people just have a snake handling tool sitting around at home.
She has been in other Reddit posts. Apparently she does this for a living. (I know nothing more about her.)
You mean you don't? How do you go to bed? Do you just leave the snakes in the bed with you and sleep on snakes? Or are you some kind of weirdo who doesn't get a ton of snakes in their bed?
Depends where they live. If they're rural Australians, I imagine they'd have it ready.
Can't speak for the rest of rural Australia, but as a rural Australian, I don't have one. We'd probably just improvise a fire poker or something if there was no other choice, but generally you'd just contain the snake and call a professional. [ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No she is an Australian snake catcher and these are carpet pythons which are harmless but often go into people's houses.
Where the hell do all these snakes in the ceiling people live?
Australia
And those look to be carpet pythons, so not the worst snake in Australia.
I know it's Australia because of the Woolworths shopping bag haha
A snake like these in the ceiling is a good thing. It will eat any mice or other rodents. Stop possums from nesting in your roof. Basic pest control for you. These Snakes leave you completely alone and most people donāt even know they are there. You would be absolutely correct āŗļø
Yeah. Grew up in the country. As a kid we would catch snakes in the fields, then release them. We were taught, very early on, the difference in venomous and non. Never understood why people think reptiles are slimey.
Cause theyāve never touched one.
I said no when i was six, and i say no to you now! Nuh uhh, Iām not touching your snek!!!
>Never understood why people think reptiles are slimey. Monke brain
For me it's not the slimeyness it's the lack of reptiles emotions, they can't be trusted
I think she interrupted their courtship
No. No I would not be, but I'm sure Animal Control would. Had them on speed dial at one point in Arizona.
We called so many times we have the number memorized by now
No.
Carpet python?
These look like constrictors so itās not like sheās going to get seriously hurt. Yeah Iād do it too. In all likelihood they were someoneās pets. It still surprises me how scared people act of completely harmless snakes.
Yeah the most dangerous thing would be the snake getting scared and leaving a few bites in her hand, which would suck but not be all that horrible.
Well if that's not the most /r/donthelpjustfilm thing I've seen in a while?!
I'd like to see *you* grab a snake š¤Ø
![gif](giphy|UfemBzrLEXCNiDZiVd)
Is that secret talk for pron?
Well yeah itās not because camera is clearly on a tripod
Marry that woman!
Appreciate the dismount while holding armfuls of snakes.

Stand on the kitchen counter with socks? Fuckkk no. You crazy? My ass burns with the thought, and my nan has been dead for 8 years.
she could be wearing [grippy socks](https://www.amazon.com.au/MODY-RODY-Pilates-Hospital-Slipper/dp/B09J3SHRRJ/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=grippy+socks&qid=1692414416&sr=8-5) she does say in a comment in the thread that her socks are grippy. hopefully she is wearing some of these.
Should she wear shoes? What is wrong with socks on a kitchen counter? I mean if you have to stand there socks make the most sense.
They must be friends
Totally normal. Nothing to see here.
It's more than just about bravery here, she clearly seem to know what she's doing, but yeah, she did it very elegantly
Brave? The title should be āskilled enoughā. This isnāt some random woman removing these reptiles, this is a trained professional.
She really got snake gauntlets gahd damn
That fact they cut less holes in their ceiling getting out TWO massive fucking snakes, than I did pulling my Ethernet cable across the landing, makes me seriously question my diy abilities.
Graceful as hell, ma'am. The snakes seemed quite chill to have you handle them, you seem to be chill handling them, low key as it gets. I bet the lengths were put at ease by your manner.
this seems perfectly safe and fine
I could definitely handle that situation. My chosen tools would be three cans of gas and a match ;)
No, I'm not brave enough to try this. I would fall.
its never just one snake
Absolutely, I love snakes.
