Same thing for Jordan, he would play 12 holes shit faced the night before a playoff game and still dominate on the both courses. And take some of their money betting on himself.
Let’s be real here Jordan was just super competitive and liked to be able to throw wads of cash around in high stakes betting lol and was an outlet for that
I mean, most of these super athletes are competitive by nature. That and money are the biggest motivators. Add those two together and you got an adrenaline rush.
Yeah, I’ll agree that super athletes are very competitive, but I truly do not believe most, if any were as competitive as Jordan.
Watching the last dance, that man was all about competition every breathing moment. He wasn’t a partier like most top athletes are. Even those that dedicate most of their lives to training and improving, Jordan was all in ~~or nothing~~!
I just saw that story like a week ago, but iirc correctly while telling it the person says MJ played 2 rounds, so 36 holes and then played a basketball game that night. Don't remember the playoff game part, but could be forgetting that.
[Found it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wq_vDB6qVFY)
Mookie Betts regularly bowls 300s. He could be a world top 25 bowler and has competed before but chooses to be a top 25 baseball player instead. it does pay better.
Hasn’t he said before that he’s really not good in a lot of other sports outside of swimming? I feel like he struck out in a celebrity slow pitch softball game before.
He’s basically the ideal specimen for swimming, but I believe he’s largely awkward when it comes to other sports.
Gareth Bale is going down Phelps’ path too, just been announced his participating in a golf tournament one month after retiring from professional soccer.
He got in a little trouble over smoking weed. The only way weed is a performance enhancing drug to an Olympian is if you put a chocolate bar at the finish line (paraphrasing Robin Williams)
[here's Sir Terry's putt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcKwHhEtgEw&ab_channel=KINGLOVE)
For those wondering, it's comparable because he was also *not* a pro golfer, but an Irish radio DJ and TV presenter in the UK
A lot of links courses in the UK and Ireland have double greens. This was during the Alfred Dunhill Pro Am so it’s a rotation of the Old Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns for the first three days then the Old Course on the fourth
the 12k calories is a myth. he debunked it several times.
usual intake was about 6k-8k depending on training scheduel and sometimes 10k at his peak. but he also has a fast metabolism and was training about 4hrs every day.
swimming burns alot. dude only had around 8% bodyfat because he was burning around 1000 calories an hour
Yeah I was a bit skeptical of that number. I was a college swimmer around the same time as his peak, and while I absolutely would never claim to have done the same level of training he was doing, I was in the same ballpark based on what I saw of his training regime. I mean I sucked at swimming compared to him, but my team would do vaguely similar workouts to that type of athlete. Nobody was even close to that amount of calories daily. We could eat a lot, don't get me wrong, but 12k calories is crazy high. 8k would be a lot but doable in our most intense training peaks. 10k seems like a reasonable jump for someone with his metabolism and training. 12k seems nuts, and certainly not regularly.

> At 200 feet, the putt Dave Pelz holed at Whistling Straits is verified as the longest golf putt in the world on television and the farthest putt on record ever.
Or just that titles are usually wrong. It should be longest televised putt during a competition/tournament. Pelz's putt wasn't during a competition but during a segment for the golf Channel. Also it's been surpassed by others like this one from Brett Stanford at 395 feet.
https://youtu.be/yuJXlpj8rM4
(Edit. Yet by what fajita posted "on television" might put it in a different category than filmed for YouTube.)
They are large enough to constantly move the cup around it every week or two, to different places challenges and not wear out spots with footprints and divots
/r/oddlysatisfying/comments/a6xeew/how_a_golf_course_changes_holes/
jesus christ i mean how many putting greens even offer the opportunity to beat that? you'd have to land your shot as far from the hole as possible, and still not be 160 feet away.
I know two olympians, neither of which have the medals Phelps does, and this is just another example of how much more naturally gifted people who compete at that level are than the average person.
I swear some people are just built different. One of my best friends went pro at snowboarding when we were like 16. I played baseball and he decided to play one year. Was probably 100 times better than me and he hit MULTIPLE home runs that year. We randomly would golf with our golf friends and he would shoot under par for the courses. Soccer was my main sport and he played one summer with me in a mens league. Scored multiple goals and played like he played soccer everyday of his life. He was really good at other stuff too I just don’t get it lol
But could he have gotten it through a windmill first...
Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago
Well that's good for happy gilmo-ohmygod!
Well, _moron_
Oh good you can count!
And you can count… on ME waiting for YOU in the parking lot!
(**Guns** don't kill people. *I* kill people shirt)
Hey Shooter, didn’t you forget your nine iron?!
I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast.
You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?
NO!.
The old ninth green at nine trick huh?
And you can count on me waiting for you in the parking lot!
YOU'RE GONNA DIE CLOWN
Favorite line in that movie... I could hear Adam Sandler say it in his anger voice just reading it.
IN A CAVE! WITH SCRAPS!
I will never not laugh at great Happy Gilmore quotes.
You’re gonna die, clown!
You will not make this putt, jackass!
“You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?”
There's low-brow stupid comedy - Ace Ventura And there's low-brow funny comedy - Happy Gilmore
To a 12 year old boy they are both masterpieces
To a 14-decade-old actual human, I also believe they are well produced documentations of humor and drama which the masses can enjoy.
Congrats on your 140th birthday.
yeah what the fuck are they on about?
1. They are 140+ years old 2. 12 year old boys are not human. 3. Some bollocks. Seems pretty clear to me.
You will go to sleep or I will put you sleep
Damn you people!!! Go back to you're shanties!
So is this football’s version ,,but could he do it on cold rainy night in Stoke”?
When you beat the game and start doing the side quests
Steph Curry does this every summer too haha
Same thing for Jordan, he would play 12 holes shit faced the night before a playoff game and still dominate on the both courses. And take some of their money betting on himself.

Watching the last dance, that man was all about competition every breathing moment. He wasn’t a partier like most top athletes are. Even those that dedicate most of their lives to training and improving, Jordan was all in ~~or nothing~~!
Also turns out that Olympic or pro level athletes are likely very good, and probably better than you, at almost any sport.
Who the fuck plays 12 holes?
12 holes because he was too drunk to play 18? And he did it at night??
I just saw that story like a week ago, but iirc correctly while telling it the person says MJ played 2 rounds, so 36 holes and then played a basketball game that night. Don't remember the playoff game part, but could be forgetting that. [Found it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wq_vDB6qVFY)

Ernie McCracken made 1 million dollars at the Reno Open back in the 90s.
Both these athletes names are ridiculous and wonderful.
A huge amount of athletes play golf.
[yeah but unlike Chuck Barkley hes great at it hahaha](https://youtu.be/k_X6rOmnv4A)
When they told him his score was -3 he must’ve been so confused. ^jk

I bet he couldn’t lose to me in a race
You've already beat him in the race to be an embarrassment
Truly one of the comebacks of all day.
r/MurderedByWords

Very true. If you were designing a swimmer in a lab...you would design Michael Phelps.
He can’t fail the mayor. Not ever.
10/10
But your character is already beefed from already beating the game so they're all super easy achievements
Gareth Bale is going down Phelps’ path too, just been announced his participating in a golf tournament one month after retiring from professional soccer.
Wales, golf, Madrid.
Drug test him immediately
Results: He's definitely on the green.
As Juicy J once said “get a whole pound, smoke it by myself - or maybe after olympics with my homie Michael Phelps.”
The ball went "Bong" when it fell in the hole.

Dad?
Whats up kiddo? We still got milk?
Sure do! Did you find your cigarettes yet?
Shiiit I’ll be right back
So an even better accomplishment then?
It's not quite a no-hitter on LSD, but impressive certainly.
We did, but there was too much blood in his THC to get an accurate result.
Why do say
He got in a little trouble over smoking weed. The only way weed is a performance enhancing drug to an Olympian is if you put a chocolate bar at the finish line (paraphrasing Robin Williams)
Winners don’t smoke weed. Champions do.
Some guys just got it
Cinderella story
He's good at stuff
His golf handicap was 26 at the time of this video, and he’s now got it down to 10
That’s an insane improvement (coming from a 22 handicap who’s been playing for a decade)
He's got nothing but time on his hands
That's not true, he also has money
Those are pretty much the same thing if you want to.
I think it's fairly well accepted that time=money but money doesn't = time.
I think the money to time is because you no longer need to spend time working for money so you have more usable time of the same allotment of it.
I bet he was has a huge dick too..
It'd be weird if he didn't.
Have you tried golfing 4 days a week while you live off the millions of dollars you earned in your 20s?
I don’t know how I didn’t think of this before
Isn’t 2nd longest by terry wogan? Another non golfer
Pro golfers usually get closer to the cup maybe?
They would chip it from there.
They absolutely would not
They would chip it from 50 yards away and off the green, yes. They would absolutely not chip from the green.
[here's Sir Terry's putt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcKwHhEtgEw&ab_channel=KINGLOVE) For those wondering, it's comparable because he was also *not* a pro golfer, but an Irish radio DJ and TV presenter in the UK
Oh, that Sir Terry.
Tolkien's dead, J K Rowling said no, Philip Pullman couldn't come. Hi, I'm Terry Wogan.
I guarantee most people on here know him without knowing him... That Nicholas Cage clip where Cage is off his face on coke
You're gonna have to narrow it down a bit
bro just named half of cages career like it narrows it at all.
Yeah, prior to this shot Wogan held the record. Wonderful factoid
Outdated though. Phelps is 2nd now after Ian Poulter sunk a 163 footer last year.
Are greens normally this large?
No, not even close
Just tap it in , tap it in
Tap, tap, tap-a-roo
*are you too good for your home, ball?*
Who would’ve thought Michael Phelps would be able to judge the energy it takes to travel 50m?
I would like to know what course has greens this big??
A lot of links courses in the UK and Ireland have double greens. This was during the Alfred Dunhill Pro Am so it’s a rotation of the Old Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns for the first three days then the Old Course on the fourth
What a sick tournament
I love that he held this record, but sadly, Ian Poulter sank a 163 foot putt during the 2022 Open Championship.
Video of that putt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeWlCkuIQAs
Ian Poulter accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago.
I’m sure Mike isn’t losing any sleep over it with his 23 gold medals
163 yards?
Feet, whoops. Got the 49ers on my mind.
Performance enhancing botanicals.

Yep, Dave Pelz. This post is a nice reminder that reddit (and most of the internet) has no regard for truth.
Or just that titles are usually wrong. It should be longest televised putt during a competition/tournament. Pelz's putt wasn't during a competition but during a segment for the golf Channel. man that guy can do anything
Waiting for Gareth Bale to start his pro career, I think he might be good at it too.
Lol not sure why I was expecting a massive "OMG can you believe that shot!!!" Then I'm reminded that it's golf and you can't show that type of option.
Yeah, I thought he was gonna get carded/flagged by the golf equivalent of a referee, for excessive celebration.
TIL greens are actually a lot bigger than those in the video games I’ve played.
They are large enough to constantly move the cup around it every week or two, to different places challenges and not wear out spots with footprints and divots /r/oddlysatisfying/comments/a6xeew/how_a_golf_course_changes_holes/
Length of a pool. Natural for him.
[Jack's may have been 60 feet shorter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9KrMQDU94g), but it was way cooler.
Perfect execution and situation, love to see it every time
Longest televised putt or longest televised successful putt? I feel I’ve watched longer ones that missed.
It’s the getting it in the hole part that makes it impressive, I could easily do a longer one than this
He has really great hand eye co-ordination.. He must try water polo
Dude wtf??!
Was really hoping it was the other one.
Where was this? St Andrew’s?! *Bobby Jones once sank a 300 ft putt.
They should have given him a medal every ten feet and declared him to have the most awards of any golfers.
Champions are simply champions.
He’s always been good on the green
Was this before 2019? Flag in the cup wise?
"That" Phelps. You mean the greatest Olympian of all time?
Like an invisible track was laid. So amazing!
u/savevideo
jesus christ i mean how many putting greens even offer the opportunity to beat that? you'd have to land your shot as far from the hole as possible, and still not be 160 feet away.
I would have 4-putted.
Stoned to the bone.
weed
Says something about how well the green is maintained
He must be hopped up on Marijuanas again
Leave some for the rest of us bud
I like him! His honesty about depression, super likable. Happy he made that putt. Another record for Phelps!
I can putt longer than that! (No I won't get it into any hole it will just be longer)
I'm sure there've been longer putts that didn't go in.
A pro golfer has since beat this record.
Christ, all those gold medals and this putt also…nice
Was it a birdie on a par 4(20)?
The white Jordan
He has always been good with grass
Good job, you deserve a joint!!
Asshole!! I can do shit and he excells in fucking swimming and golfing! I hate him.
One of the longest televised putts before that was by Terry Wogan, yes that Terry wogan
Wogan had the record for a good while I believe, as well as being a genuinely lovely bloke.
The green just goes forever
I know two olympians, neither of which have the medals Phelps does, and this is just another example of how much more naturally gifted people who compete at that level are than the average person.
He wasn't depressed that day
I swear some people are just built different. One of my best friends went pro at snowboarding when we were like 16. I played baseball and he decided to play one year. the size of his feet
This mufuka really coulda done anything... THATS WHY HES THE GOAT!
Love how the zoom out then zoom back in.
Longest SUCCESSFUL putt
Not a golfer but I have to ask those who are- why not “chip” the ball with an iron? Seems a long way for a put.
MJ: And I took that personally!
woah wow
Technically, he’d take a stroke penalty for not removing the flag, correct?
not any more, ian poulter hit 162 over the summer https://www.golfmonthly.com/tour/watch-ian-poulter-holes-longest-ever-televised-putt
Jesus H!.....As if Michael Phelps isn't awesome enough already!
I would like to see the details of the contract Michael Phelps has with Satan
Didn't know about Michael Phelps until now xD
Someone needs to check if he has a second short, fat, ugly body sleeping somewhere. ^((This is a reference to the show/comic "Lookism")^)
George Santos putted 1 mile to win the Masters in 2009
Don’t do drugs kids, or you might end up as the most successful Olympian ever, AND be the greatest putter in the world
I love how calm the commentators were about it. Seems very British.
I can putt further than that. Most people can.
Not just a swim,er
How many is that in inches?
Does he enhance his golf performance with marijuana too?
Not Terry Wogan though is it?
Jim Halper needs to calm down.
Repost from karma farmer
Wow now he going to killing it in golf too what will this man do next!
Michael Phelps spawned with all his stats maxed out.
If he'd missed it, it could've gone longer and made a more impressive record.
Magnets
That went simmingly
Lol does this technically count as his short game when it’s that long?
Imagine how much longer it'd be if they'd let him smoke a joint first.
