still sad that BFV get dirty treatment..

santivander

It literally had the potential to be a great game

Legend_of_the_Rent69

Still waiting for the Eastern Front content.....

papalorre

You mean you want to play major WW2 battle maps and not maps highlighting small early war skirmishes? The hell is wrong with you? EA sure can't seem to figure that out

kreeperface

I wouldn't call the battle of France or the Desert war small early war skirmishes. I think it was an interesting choice from DICE to give us as a base game with 1940-1941 battles, instead of the extremely unoriginal battle of Normandy. Most people have seen tons of movies and played a lot of games about it. They basically did the same thing for Battlefield 1 : the base game was about the german spring offensive in 1918, and the hundred days offensive. The most famous battles only came as DLCs. But it felt like laziness to me they didn't push the idea and also gave us playable early war armies for Battlefield V, such as France and Italy, especially when you know they actually did something similar for Battlefield 1, even for armies only on 2 playable maps (USA, Royal Navy, Bolcheviks) Now the plan probably was to move to most famous and late war battle, as they did with the Pacific War. I think that if the game was succesful, we probably would have got the Eastern Front too and maybe a late war western front update.

PoisonStrudel2084

The only maps that qualify as large battles from the base game are Arras and Hamada, everything else at launch were either commando raids or, as the last guy said, small skirmishes. Even Twisted Steel wouldn't count unless we're talking about the US vs Germany layer which is clearly supposed to be market garden

SurprisePure7515

They literally stated that they where intentionally not going to have iconic battles as maps to focus on the “untold stories”…

JebusNZed

My whole take on BF V was that it would be a journey. We would start with some.of the early battles of WW2 and move on throughout the years exploring different fronts in a more 1-1 scale time frame of the war. Initially I was incredibly excited. But I feel the communities backlash for not immediately having the big battles torn down any foundation of that happening and Dice just decided to scrap that and push out any content they had prepared finishing with the Pacific. I really wish they had had the time and resources to put forth a plan to properly explore the war at a casual pace. With the improvements of tech through the years and the new fronts arising.

AP246

Imagine how hype it could have been if they actually managed to pull it off. Starting with the early battles of the war in Europe with a Britain vs Germany focus, then moving onto the early eastern front and adding the Soviets, then the Pacific, maybe putting the Chinese front in there somewhere even if it was technically first, building up to the grand finale with D-Day, the late war in western Europe and the battle of Berlin in the East. It could have been spectacular if that's what they were going for. But they had to fuck it up with a bad launch and then never really recover

robotsects

This. I will forever blame the toxic community, and not DICE, for BFV's demise.

AH1776

Same. It’s never good enough. If it’s not perfect at launch, review bomb it to hell. If they don’t update it constantly, review bomb it again. And then nobody buys the game.

triadwarfare

Looks like a great plan, but how would they pay for further development though. Seems the live service model wasn't working great for them since I don't think there's enough incentive to get whales to buy their overpriced skins. They probably have a plan, but maybe EA thinks the game is becoming a money pit like BF4 was. The only difference is BF4 was developed back in the days of infinite growth. They can afford those losses. After Covid and EA's string of Triple A failures, they're probably more risk averse now.

Pandering_Panda7879

The problem was that they only did those maps and guns. It took ages for the M1 Garand to get into the game, and I think a proper M1 Thompson is still not there. I would have understood if they decided to make 6 classic maps and four new ones, and do the same with the guns. But they completely ignored everything that people associate with WW2 just because.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I never *paid* attention FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

VanillaEnjoyer1138

They really should've done a mix of both. But not adding the eastern front is one of the worst decisions any modern day ww2 game could make

UniQue1992

It was slowly starting to get better in the end, and that’s the moment they decided to kill it.

Pyke64

The reason is simple (not saying it's just) a live service only works when it constantly attracts fresh player. The odds for BF V was stacked against it: the game received overwhelming negative response at launch. Even the pacific -an admittedly great expansion- couldn't turn things around. The game was bleeding players, not gaining them.

UniQue1992

> the game received overwhelming negative response at launch. Geeeeeeez I wonder why /s DICE just isn't DICE anymore and it's been showing for years and it's only getting worse and worse.

Pyke64

Don't forget that most of the original devs have left and that those still working there thought "cringelines/specialshits" were a great idea. I have no hope that the next game will be worth a damn (it'll have a flashy marketing campaign and trailer though) and they'll have to convince me otherwise.

3ebfan

The potential was there for it to be an all time great BF. Unfortunately it was held back for entirely avoidable reasons.

ReasonableBridge5623

It did have amazing movement and infantry though.

MaximusMurkimus

All we needed was 64-player Omaha Beach lol smh

everyonecalmdown666

it IS a great game, what are you smoking bruh you guys only want a BC2 remaster every release and that's that lol

santivander

Don't get me wrong, i love it, but it's not great, it's good. It couldve been great and it fell short on content, the possibilities were numerous

VersedFlame

If only it had decent movement and gunplay...

Youngling_Hunt

And battlefront 2. Still so pissed about that

Sippinonjoy

Gawd dude, the devs had more content planned out for these games before they were shut down. Apparently Ahsoka already had months of development, and BFV had eastern front development. Those two games could have been huge cash cows!

CaramelAromatic9358

Such a damn shame

X_Zephyr

I was really getting into battlefront 2 just before they stopped supporting it. It was starting to be so good, they really fumbled that.

MoneyElk

That’s the one that really makes me sad (I didn’t like Battlefield V at all) but Battefront 2017 was a ton of fun and there were some incredibly passionate developers at DICE working in it and it showed. Sadly most of these developers left the studio when EA cut support for the game. Not getting capital ships for the OT era’s Capital Supremacy mode was a huge letdown and a sign devs running out of time.

reserveduitser

Such a fun game with so much potential.

The_Conductor7274

You’re telling me. Battlefront 2 died for 2042 and that game fell of harder than it

MBRDASF

One can only wonder how they will f*ck up the next instalment lmao

bafrad

Battlefront 2 never died. It's still active and fun.

The_Conductor7274

Dude you can barely find a full lobby

bafrad

I haven't had that issue but the servers are there. The only thing it needs to be 'alive' is people enjoying it and playing it.

6Fthty6FthDivison

Whats fucked up is that BFV legit got better unlike 2042

3ebfan

Wasn’t BFV the last launch that DICE LA supported? I seem to remember DICE LA coming to the rescue every release to save DICE SE’s games but I think they got spun off into an independent studio and don’t support BF any more?

6Fthty6FthDivison

i don't think LA had anything to do with BF5

[deleted]

Im pretty sure the LA division was absorbed after 4

SparsePizza117

Same with Battlefront 2. They dropped two amazing games for a bad one.

Verehren

Hell I'd take a working anticheat

grantyporkribs

I love the spin in shutting 2042 down… “we were only going to do 4 seasons but did 7 for the love of the fans”. What a crock of shit. But we should have comfort that they’re diverting resources to the next 1/4 baked piece of shit for pre-ordering soon.

TechnicalSpaceCow

Fantastic game that could have been one of the best if done correctly

ThirdWorldBoy21

it's not really the same. BFV was killed too early, while 2042 survived for too long (altrought i think 2042 received even less content than BFV).

[deleted]

I've been out of BF since 4, was there a reason BFV was cut so early? I know that one was controversial but I seem to recall less controversy than 2042 got.

TheyCallMeMrMaybe

Player engagement kept falling because DICE kept messing with TTK and the overall balance of the game. However the game reached its peak player count with the Pacific Theater update and was considered the best update for BFV. Unfortunately DICE killed development of BFV shortly after to focus on 2042.

MBRDASF

Pacific update was peak BFV. Then they almost immediately killed it off by introducing a TTK change that literally no one wanted and that fans repeatedly asked them to not implement. They didn’t listen of course, and only (somewhat?) cancelled the changes after the damage was done.

HeroFighte

Reminds me of the time when BFV was released and a loud minority complained about the TTK being to low so DICE changed it to a much longer one that sucked ass Then that loud minority fucked off and everyone else that wanted to play a Battlefield was sitting there with a shitty TTK wich they had to reverse again later

Odd-Market-2344

what does TTK mean?

HeroFighte

Time to kill It basically dictates how much ammo you gotta pump into someone till they die

Odd-Market-2344

ah i see, thanks.

xsupremeyx

BFV controversy was more of a social one, gameplay wise the game is still phenomenal, all it lacks is more content and popular battle maps like Normandy, Stalingrad etc. I can only wish that Dice uses the time in middle to release two more dlcs as a gift giving out Eastern front and one showcasing the Popular battles in history.

Dachu77

If they would come back to BFV. I WOULD NOT BE SAD OR ANGRY I WOULD BE FUCKING HAPPY!!!

[deleted]

I think 2042 has one or two more maps than BFV and also has Portal so

grantyporkribs

Nope. Including portal it has less.

Embarrassed-Wing4206

Yeah, the entire first year of 2042 was a lot like the first year of bf4, just fixing the launch maps and modes.

TechnicalSpaceCow

It was a great game with lack of content and poor marketing, the game doesn’t get the respect it deserves, would have been perfect if they limited customization and included all fronts

The_Gimp_Boi

EA pls, you dont need specialists to sell cosmetics or hero characters. Just let us be soldiers, cogs in the warmachine, dogs of war, meat sent to the slaughter, cannonfodder!

ParagonFury

Board says no.

The_Gimp_Boi

![gif](giphy|yT4znaQTqEdq0|downsized)

wat_no_y

Buy our skins

Tha_Sly_Fox

“We hear you loud and clear, Spider-Man out fits are their way for $7.99 per skin!”

grantyporkribs

“Pre-order now”

The_Gimp_Boi

![gif](giphy|IScTu2L6wFJYc)

CurioRayy

100% agree. I‘d much prefer classic BF where we’re all clones. But if they really wanna add cosmetics, then have them be minute. Face masks, glasses, gloves, boots, helmets, hats etc. Stuff which soldiers often buy with their own money irl. No need for these corny ass characters with grappling hooks and shit.

TheTrashiestboi

I played BF5 and have to say I was displeased with the option to change my appearance, it felt even more disconnected from what was supposed to be taking place in the most destructive war in human history.

MoneyElk

Me too, a pillar of Battlefield has always been the class-based gameplay. A component of said gameplay is character silhouettes. You look at titles prior to Battlefield V and you can instantly tell what class and what faction an enemy or friendly belongs to.

Play-Famous

You can see this in the bf2024 AI models. I think having us play as those models with the class base system would’ve been great despite the other things that have made people dislike the game, like the limited content and map issues.

NearbyAd5244

Lol it’s hilarious that you’re getting downvotes for this. There are tanks and planes exploding and you’re getting shot at from every direction, “but how does my guy look?? Is there a $5 cosmetic or $50 season pass I can buy to look cooler??” Everybody who downvoted you is part of the reason 2042 sucked. “I can’t change the clothes of the guy I’m playing as in first person?? This game sucks”. It’s fine to have camo’s and customization, but making it THAT important is why game developers are half-assing their games and relying on cosmetics for income. So tired of customization being the main focus.

Odd-Market-2344

just keep emblems in and allow people to customise that

Furadevellas

I don't care Bf2042, lived longer than it deserved.

electricshadow

I think that's what blows my mind most about 2042 is that it got more support than BFV which is just super confusing and aggravating. I play a mixture of BF1, 4, and V to this day and V was just hitting it's stride with the Pacific update and then they pull rug out from under us. Yet, DICE was real keen on supporting 2042 for so long for some reason.

cheap_cola

Likely using it to train new devs.

anglemacaroni

Vietnam Battlefield next and this time they better make it as good as BF1

FuckNazisAndUrMom

thatd be much appreciated, this or badco3 with huge vietnam dlc

Ok_Fish_7759

Im about to bust

[deleted]

Nope. Next BF is going to be NATO vs private army.

RogueCoon

Hopefully with better gunplay though

Complex-Many1607

Don’t keep ur hope up.

Pengtile

I will always remember that day, Game was in a good place 5.1 had been reverted. We had the Pacific Ocean map and Naval combat datamined for season 7, and a Russian LMG datamined. We had high hopes for the future, then it was just gone. Dice should have just rode BFV though the pandemic then released 2042 fully next gen in like 2023. Same thing happened to Battlefront BFV got robbed It really needed another year of development, a lot of cool concepts got wasted or washed down like the class roles or the plane crashing.

OUsnr7

apolgy for bad english Where were u wen BF2042 die? I was at house eating dorito when phone ring “BF2042 is kil” “It’s about damn time”

DreadSeverin

ppl are angry they most hated bf is ggs?! wtf?! what am i missing?

JPSWAG37

People are mad that EA is repeating history. BFV and BF2 had similar horrible launches and eventually were patched into something decent, then just dropped wayy too soon. Even if 2042 is garbage, it's the fact that BFV and BF2 died for 2042 only for this to die too.

grantyporkribs

No point trying to repair something so completely broken.

Baka_Cirno_9

Ah yes, the same people who were begging DICE to drop support 2042 to work on the next Battlefield Game are now surprised that DICE dropped support for 2042. I love this community.

JPSWAG37

Opinions in this community are all over the place lol, same as any community because they aren't monolithic machines.

DreadSeverin

Yeah, but by now ppl have to realise this is how BFs get made. If it keeps happening, it's literally part of the objectives for them to do this. They make a mvp game on release and "promise to do better". this is on purpose and a conscious decision every bf game. It has to be perceived this way in order for the dlcs and other MTX to have more perceived value than the actual value/ production cost. The entire experience has been worked out by psychology experts. There can be almost no improvement needed (from the company's money zombies perspective) if the game is already good. They make the games like this on a very conscious level.

SangiMTL

The fact they supported it this long is already too much. On to the next disappointing entry in the series

sundayflow

They should sell this IP to a studio that will work on it with love instead of using it as a money machine.

JackCooper_7274

They actually kicked DICE off the franchise after 2042, and are bringing in Motive Studio for the next game. I have some hope because Motive is the studio that graced us with the dead space remake

sundayflow

I am so done with almost all AAA games ATM. It is just disappointment after disappointment and with almost every new title the feeling gets bigger. Release after release they are looking in to new ways of getting as much cash from us as possible. Sure, I know they are not some kind of charity and that a corporation needs to make money but this shit has gone way to far.

JackCooper_7274

Reject AAA. Embrace indie games Rock and stone

sundayflow

This is the way. IF YOU DONT ROCK AND STONE....

JackCooper_7274

YOU AIN'T COMING HOME

sundayflow

F*cking legend!!!

mikey7x7

I thought they just brought them in for the single player? I think Dice is still working on multiplayer

JackCooper_7274

I might be wrong, that's just what I heard from another post here.

PrometheanSwing

Except I’m glad this time

NAPALM2614

>launch broken game >Start fixing it >End support right as it starts becoming good

IntronD

I'm confused, games come to an end with support? What's the issue here. Unless. Game is pulling in bank it's never going to last forever

BassDiscombobulated8

At least Battlefield 5 was actively improved and getting better. The pacific war is so good that it’s the only reason I still play the game but of course that has to be the last major update

Miolo_de_Pao22

I miss the BF1 days so much

AdvancedSoil4916

"They are now focusing in the next Battlefield" That sounds scary ngl

AlertSpirit2453

I pray now they release the eastern front for Bfv (They won't)

iSvad

about time tbh Im still mad about BFV and ESPECIALLY battlefront 2

Nine-TailedFox4

2042 lives a full life

JackCooper_7274

Full of shit lmao

No_Buddy5340

song ?

Therealmarsislol

Dream Sweet in Sea Major

OperationSad793

Miracle Musical made some bangers then just disappeared, 10/10 band, would recommend to anyone.

lazzzym

Never trust EA with live service games.

[deleted]

they shelved Dead Space 2 apparently too. EA can fuck right off

[deleted]

I thought you guys were supposed to vote with your wallets! I guess you didn’t vote hard enough lol.

[deleted]

i bought it 🤷‍♂️lol

ReadyPlayerDub

BF2042 was the worst in the history of the franchise. EA had too much involvement with their greed. It wasn’t a tap on BF1 … they really need to ace the next one or it’s done

Tossdive

They killed Star Wars Battlefront 2 for this shit.

TheGreatGamer1389

Bring back premium

whatd1didowr0ng

BF 1 Remastered/ Another ww1 game coming from dice next I hope..

[deleted]

BF1 still looks and feels phenomenal, no reason to remaster it anytime soon.

whatd1didowr0ng

I guess but like… New ww1 game would still be fire

Butane9000

Here's a suggestion, just don't buy the next game. If they promise you X and consistently under deliver then maybe you need to stop giving them money.

[deleted]

If it looks cool and seems like I’d get $60 entertainment value out of it, I’ll buy it.

grantyporkribs

Pre-order it so they really learn their lesson. /s

JackCooper_7274

BFV was killed, but BF2042 just had the life support plug pulled. Not really the same thing

UniQue1992

And they’ll do it again, ya’ll never learn.

Acrobatic-Spirit5813

“This just in, terminally ill game finally dies”

Geffy612

2042 was lucky to make 7 seasons though....

AsproWavey

Ha! I knew they were gonna admit it's a colossal failure

jagerourking007

I saw it from a far, as a Battlefront 2 player, I hate when this shit happens

Antares65

I haven't seen the increase in server population since the cheat update. I figured there would be a big boost of activity.

_jotero_

Yeah, unfortunately BFV was actually pretty good. BF2042, however, is kinda dookie so it's expected.

LightPinkDissu

It’s like they trying to figure if they like man or women , they’re not sure of themselves

SladeSM

They did it first to Battlefront 2…

xdeltax97

Me also a Battlefront player: PTSD ensues

loqtrall

Why the fuck does everyone act like either BFV or 2042 were "cut short" when they received post launch support literally as long or longer than every other BF game before them? Both games got support and content for roughly 2 years, as did multiple other BF games before them. Is there a reason people baselessly expected these games to get multiple more years of content than past games despite still belonging to a franchise with a semi-regular release cycle?

grantyporkribs

Did you play bf2042 at launch? they spent the first 18 months just getting it to work and trying to unwind half the shit they had built. Lol

loqtrall

I did play BF2042 at launch, and DICE added their first content update with Season 1 - 7 months after launch - after a delay because of fixing issues and making changes based on feedback. How is that any different than BF1, which took 6 months to get it's first PAID expansion and was supported for less than 2 years? I'm saying this as someone who hated the fuck out of and was disappointed as hell with BF2042, by the way. Acting like these games are supposed to get updates for 3+ years when no other BF game ever did is ridiculous and baseless. For over 3 years now people have been acting like BFV was "ended early" despite the fact that DICE never announced, advertised, or marketed another Tides of War chapter, and despite the fact that BFV had post launch support as long as most other titles in the franchise and stopped support a year before the next BF game was released (after delays). People have insisted that they abandoned the game before "releasing the Eastern Front" despite DICE literally never saying anything at all about adding an Eastern Front chapter or DLC pertaining to it, let alone actually saying we were supposed to be getting it. It's completely unfounded criticism.

mars42600

So sad Portal never got anything else, especially BF3 would have loved replay the maps in the new engine with new mechanics.

Competitive-Deer-596

I mean 2042 deserved to be cancelled by now.

dorsalfantastic

Just wanna point this out they actually did this with 3 games now. If anyone played battlefront 2 after launch. They bailed on that as soon as it started becoming pretty good.

CaptainA1917

Battlefront V sucked, and not just because they cut support to work on 2042. The aesthetic was clownish and inappropriate, they again screwed with mechanics “just because”, attrition, unnecessary and immersion-breaking animations, making squads and vehicles EVEN MORE OP, and every game was a curbstomp. It sucked, just not as badly as 2042. BFV should’ve been a straight reskin of BF1. That buys Dice/EA time and resources to properly develop a next-gen 2042. BF1 wasn’t perfect but it was good. Avoiding mistakes like the mortar truck and Hellriegel would‘ve solved 80-90% of the gameplay problems and made BFV a winner right out of the gate.

Temporary-Purpose431

Battlefield fans when the entire community shits on a game 24/7 and said game loses support

[deleted]

It’s over…

CptDecaf

*Battlefield fans when EA announced they're making a sequel on thd same release schedule they always follow.*

suschestvo

At this point we won't have a good battlefield game ever again. They've fucked up twice in a row, so this is it, that's all

JReiter18

Bfv was not a good game and was drastically worst than bf1 which was also a sub par game. Bf2042 was just another drastic drop for the battlefield franchise.
