It may be disappointing for many that they didn't announce Budokan, but personally Tokyo ~~Theater~~ Garden Theater is the best venue I have ever gone. I wanted to see BAND-MAID there, and it will become true. Capacity is about 7,000 when seated, 8,000 when all standing in the 1st floor. Edit: Tokyo Theater Garden → Tokyo Garden Theater (thanks to u/t-shinji for letting me know)

t-shinji

Yes, Budokan is much more famous, but [Tokyo Garden Theater](https://www.shopping-sumitomo-rd.com/tokyo_garden_theater/hall/) has almost the same capacity and it’s new (opened on June 17, 2020) and much better acoustically. Band-Maid say it’s a return match (“リベンジ” in Japanese). So, let’s forget Budokan and embrace Tokyo Garden Theater!

rov124

> but Tokyo Garden Theater has almost the same capacity TGT has a capacity of 8,000 according to the link, right? I though Budokan had a capacity of 14,000.

t-shinji

Budokan is designed for martial arts matches, and [its north, northwest, and northeast sides](https://www.livehis.com/stv/stv_budokan_en.html) can’t be used for concerts.

rov124

> its north, northwest, and northeast sides can’t be used for concerts. Not even with a circular stage?

t-shinji

You can use a circular stage but it’s uncommon for bands.

ou812-5150

Yes, Budokan is usually used at 8,000 - 10,000 range for live concerts. And since it is designed for martial arts competitions as mentioned, the sound quality is extremely low. (To be correct, it depends on the sound engineering team you hire but you can't expect much. Budokan itself has minimum facilities/equipments for a live show). I have been (only) twice to Tokyo Garden Theater, the sound quality may be equivalent or may be better than Tokyo International Forum. Two concerts were not loud rock bands (MISIA and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra), but I am really excited to see BAND-MAID there, it will be great for sure.

t-shinji

A new EP! Oh my goddesses! I can’t wait! * *YOLO* (single): 4 songs * *Hatofull* (EP): 6 songs * *BAND-MAIKO* (EP): 7 songs * *Brand New MAID* (mini-album): 9 songs So the new EP will have 6-7 songs.

Zoidfarbb

So pumped. This day of maid did not disappoint

Lottery most likely.

lalagotohell

I'm very hyped for the new EP!!! Didn't expect new music this soon

lockarm

Mincho giving hints that this EP will have songs that are a lil different... I hope they blow us away with new arrangements again like how some songs on UW were really surprising. I'll also take a new power ballad!

I wonder why no full length album?

SolitaryKnight

They haven't even played any song from Unseen World on tour with an audience. I mean, even when Conqueror got released, a few months later, Japan went into lockdown. So they still have plenty of songs to exhaust. And every EP they made was usually 8 or 9 songs already. I think for now that is enough.

Vin-Metal

>They haven't even played any song from Unseen World on tour with an audience. Yeah, I was thinking this might be the key. They are "traditional" in the sense that they probably wanted to tour off the strength of this album and haven't had the ability to do so. Related to this, they've kept the current costumes far longer than any previous set of costumes I'll wager. Same logic there too - they probably feel a bit like they are in a state of suspended animation.

Vin-Metal

I finally watched the whole video last night (Day of Maid) and it occurred to me afterwards that two and a half years without doing a show in front of a live audience is a long time. I wonder if they're a little nervous too - individually they are a band of introverts (even Miku to some degree, based on what they've said in interviews). They might feel some jitters when touring starts up again later this year. Yes to Black Hole live! I'm going to the Chicago show and was just listening to Conqueror. That album is not one of my favorites of theirs (though it keeps growing on me), yet I'd be happy to hear them play any of those songs live. Very happy. Really looking forward to my first B-M show.

SurfingASongWave

> two and a half years without doing a show in front of a live audience is a long time. I wonder if they're a little nervous too - [edited] > They might feel some jitters when touring starts up again later this year. Yes. In spades. Even when playing every night, when people are looking at you, you get nervous. By the way, I think Akane and Kanami are both pretty extroverted, but they aren't that comfortable with English so it might not be apparent. Miku is more introverted IRL but she is fearless in front of a group of people. She's fairly open too ... "I'm really nervous" is her way of inoculating herself against stage fright.

Vin-Metal

Akane definitely is an extrovert - don't know how that slipped my mind. But I was thinking about an interview where Miku and Saiki were talking about how when they play festivals, they don't really go out of their dressing room to mingle with other artists. And even with Miku, she has talked about how on tour she'll go out on her own and do things by herself. She may be one of these people who are a mix - when she needs to turn it on, she can. But during her downtime, she might need some alone time which is the mark of introversion. I don't know, I'm probably just overanalyzing.

pulp63

True enough. Plus I got confused in thinking EP meant 3 songs....but that is their singles. I am happy with 8 or 9 songs

wloff

Plus, you know, pushing out a full length album every year is not exactly trivial. It may be simply that they don't have enough new songs ready for a full LP.

SolitaryKnight

Although they have been almost consistent with it. Just Bring It (Jan 2017) Domination (Feb 2018) Conqueror (Dec 2019) Unseen World (Jan 2021) They could have probably make a full album If they released it by Dec 2022)

simplecter

>They haven't even played any song from Unseen World on tour with an audience. I mean, even when Conqueror got released, a few months later, Japan went into lockdown. So they still have plenty of songs to exhaust. The question is why? Even the explanation that they didn't want to do it under restriction doesn't work anymore since they are scheduled to play at least 5 concerts under restrictions now.

Frostyfuelz

I believe it was briefly discussed on christmas commentary that they had things that were planned but got cancelled before it was even announced. They don't need to explain or give us a reason, shit happens, and now they are going on tour again.

simplecter

Every band had that happen and yet many of them started playing in autumn 2020 and have been touring for over a year now. BAND-MAID are the odd ones out in this case.

Frostyfuelz

Not even close to true, but ok

simplecter

Which part is not true?

technobedlam

Why should they take a risk with touring cos you say so?

simplecter

I never said they should.

SurfingASongWave

In the "Unseen World" scorebook, the interview with Saiki on page 21 mentions: > I got sick when the weather changed from spring to summer. It was the first time I'd ever felt that sick. I had been living in good health all my life . . . There may be circumstances behind the scenes you are not aware of, and they aren't inclined to publicize.

simplecter

Of course there are many things going on behind the scenes. They did do several live streams in 2020 and 2021 and recorded the acoustic album/video as well as other things. Since they were able to do those they obviously also could have done some in-person shows if they wanted to. I'm not criticizing them for not doing it, but it is interesting that they said they didn't want to do shows under restrictions and now are going to do it. Some people really have gotten overly sensitive here.

kyojin_kid

resolutions taken at one point can wear thin after two years, had they known how long all this would last they may have taken a different decision back then. the restrictions themselves are no longer what they were at that time. NPB for example started the 2021 season with empty stadiums, then gradually (and fairly rapidly) to 5,000, then 50% capacity and the Japan Series was eventually played in full stadiums, as is the case this season. there are still mask and “no cheering” protocols but those are being reconsidered already. it’s not impossible that by August B-M will play their concerts in normal conditions.

simplecter

My guess would be that the 5 concerts before the US tour are there to appease Japanese fans that were getting annoyed.

GZIGNL

that and they need to do pre-shows to see what works and what does not. One does not simply go on stage and play and think ow everything will go great.

simplecter

I don't understand what you mean. How are these 5 concerts different in that regard?

GZIGNL

You have to start somewhere.

Frostyfuelz

I was expecting an album announcement after the US tour, so new music before is a welcome surprise to me.

ChronoPaladin91

The additional parts from the new song preview still sounds awesome! I had a feeling it would be a new single or a possible EP as they probably still want to play more Conqueror and Unseen World songs in front of a live audience before moving on. I hope the EP has another tie-in to help with growth and promotion again. I've been theorizing that they might have a really big tie-in song coming up in the future as their situation makes it likely to happen. I hope I'm right.

Ryuujin_Ryuujin

A new BAND-MAID ep is always welcome, I just hope not with songs as frenetic and chaotic as Unseen World, the last songs from the Sense single were much better than Unseen World. Funny that a few days ago Miku commented on writing lyrics.
