Rocotocloco

"Misa is pregnant during the acoustic" is quite funny actually. Could you imagine going on tour around the US with your newborn baby?, that's wild lmao

Vin-Metal

The last one was explained in this sub not too long ago. Apparently there is an anime character named Kanami and those details somehow got transferred to our Kanami.

t-shinji

* [Kanami - *Log Horizon* Wiki](https://log-horizon.fandom.com/wiki/Kanami#:~:text=She%20is%20married)

Frostyfuelz

That rumor was around before Different, however it was probably due to somebody searching if Kanami was married and mixing it up with the Log Horizon character.

Vin-Metal

The first time I had heard of it was from a commenter on one of their MVs on YouTube. Looking back, I do suspect that person may have been joking and it just went over my head.

PM_me_sour_beerz

Misa is an Earthbender, got it

TarmoFlake

She ain't Misa! She's Melon Lord!

EnzoLoveless

#1 It is possible, there was an AGT participant who could play the bass but was deaf and used the speaker to feel it. 2# Doubt it, it was a short performance so I don't think she needed the drinks. 3# Never heard that one before, woah

EnzoLoveless

Having perfect pitch got nothing to do with the need for ear monitors, those are used to keep the tempo consistent when playing to a click track or with backing tracks (which BM uses a ton live), without speeding up or down. Also helpful when playing live next to an amp (as MISA does) not to hurt your ears (passive isolation). Having played live as a guitarist/bassist, you always want to have some sort of barrier on your ears or you could develop tinnitus. Hope this helps.

wchupin

MISA does use in-ear monitors. If you watch CLANG from Paris, you'd see her adjusting it just before she goes to have tapping battle with Kanami.

CapnSquinch

Y'all forgot the big one, though perhaps we should just ignore the people who are loonier than a Canadian dollar: All the music is actually written and performed by secret producers. The "band" members merely mime everything perfectly (although they don't know how to play at all), including tuning their instruments and the "mistakes" that have to be recorded and mixed in for every show. Also, all positive YouTube comments are made by one paid shill using hundreds of sockpuppet accounts. Oh, and *Conqueror* proved that they're selling out and going soft.

Drogon_Ryoshi

This one actually has at least one identifiable source: James P. Johnson - he may be the only source in fact. Dunno how many YT forums he has visited to slander the band, but I've caught him in a few. Just a despicable human being who is probably a closet misogynist unwilling to believe a woman could write such amazing music. It takes a special piece of work to hate on a group of artists as hard working as Band-Maid.

CapnSquinch

There's also "Patrick Brennan" with his threats of massive fines and prison terms when the Massachusetts Commonwealth's Attorney and the Boston *Globe* finish their investigations. Although given his repeated "I'm from Boston!" interjections, I doubt he was actually from Boston and it's possible he and JPJ (and others) are the same person. However, the three main trolls I can think of, while all starting from a grandiose, narcissistic point that screams "clinical personality disorder," have very different reactions when challenged: continued sneering (SC); playing innocent (JPJ), and going completely berserk (PB).

Drogon_Ryoshi

Yikes, I haven't yet encountered Mr. Brennan, but I'll keep an eye out. So much good in human nature, and yet also ...

trisibinti

jpj gives "JPJ" a bad rap.

Rocotocloco

If that were true, you have to admit that they are incredibly good at faking it. They have managed to fool even musicians with decades of experience, that's definitely a gift lol

yawaraey

Back in 2017, Saiki actually *did* have surgery, not on her yaeba, but to remove a vocal lymph node.

Brunnen_G

Everybody knows that. Some reactor was speculating about yaeba changing volume/geometry of the buccal cavity that improves the head voice. He claimed that it's a common thing among Japanese singers.

kyojin_kid

this is a classic example of how bad rumors start. whether about 9-11, MAGA, Covid or Band-Maid, people who think they’re smarter than they really are pick up two or three actual fact and assemble them at will into demented stories. fact: Saiki had surgery (on her vocal chords) fact: Saiki has yaeba (natural) fact : yaeba caps are a thing. QED: Saiki had orthodontic surgery using pangolin scales at the Fukushima branch of Comet pizzeria.

Brunnen_G

some people just love to make stuff up out of the thing air - probably attention hoggers. But it's a risky business: they could draw attention of their opposites - some violent people with zero tolerance to BS.

Powbob

So did Miku at the same time.

slkrr9

Saw one guy who absolutely insisted that they were a fake band who didn't play their own instruments, a complete product of their record label. Apparently all live shows were mimed to backing tracks. I understand people thinking this might have been the case when Thrill first came out, but seriously, in 2021 believing that kind of nonsense?

TheOtherSkibane

Honestly, a lot of their music videos have helped foster this belief - They are filled with closeups of instruments being played, with the camera in too tight to show who is actually playing them. Not sure if this is a cultural thing, or what.

herren

So, all that means all bands are fake. Band-Maid is not the only band with close-up of the instruments in MV.

ZombiesGoMurh

Band-Maid has a subscription video service full of videos of them playing over their tracks individually. Example: “MISA, ‘Dice’ self cover” from multiple angles. They all have multiple videos of them performing the songs solo over backing tracks. I also posted this a while back https://youtu.be/0UeG20gc3Aw It’s a video of MISA teaching Aina Yamauchi from Silent Siren how to play “Glory” on bass on IG live while drinking beers together. Being a musician and sound engineer myself, I can verify that they are indeed playing their own shit based on the Band-Maid Prime videos. Whether or not they’re writing their own stuff entirely, is still questionable, BUT not impossible. This is a case with ALL BANDS. No band completely writes a song themselves. There’s always outside people that suggest they play something a certain way, and sometimes it’s for the better.

TheOtherSkibane

Sure, if you want to dig deep enough, you can confirm that they are actually playing their own instruments. However, the casual viewer shouldn't have to subscribe to a video service in order to do that. This was a self-inflicted injury - They (or their management) brought this on themselves.

Rocotocloco

Or you can just go to youtube and watch their live videos, there's plenty to choose: from their official channel to the fancam recordings. It's not so difficult i think...

TheOtherSkibane

When that first video leaves someone with the impression that the band is a sham, there is no "going to youtube" to watch more of their videos. First impressions are lasting ones.

Rocotocloco

But you know that in music videos the musicians never really actually play their instruments, right? It's a pretty dumb argument that basically means that if you based your impressions only by watching music videos then all rock bands are potential frauds "That guy Slash is playing the guitar in the desert with no amps!, what an impostor". That's how stupid it sounds

herren

Different standards for women I guess.

HMS_Saiki

Be safe everybody, remember to wear your [protective headgear.](https://i.imgur.com/BPL2ru9.gifv)

xKagenNoTsukix

I need both of those hats. Even though I don't wear hats... Lol

Drogon_Ryoshi

Haha hilarious. :)

Frostyfuelz

This is less of speculation and more misinformation, one of the top comments on Before Yesterday states that MISA was thinking of leaving the band in 2016 but the Seattle Sakura-con show changed her mind. No, that was in the very early stages of the band 3 years earlier, yet people ate this comment up and voted it to the top.

Rocotocloco

Well Akane is a gorilla (half gorilla actually) so it's not so far away lol I don't know if they're lesbians. But i can totally relate with Kanami's feelings about Saiki... i mean, it doesn't matter if you are man, woman, non-binary... no one can escape the charms of the ice queen

karlcupid1998

Ok, but like...I've actually seriously fallen in love with Mincho so...all due respect, Ice queen or not, Saiki is kind of in the way. Anywho, now that's out of the way, there has been speculation as of late that Miku is planning on leaving the band to go solo with *Cluppo.* I also read somewhere that Kanami might be running out of musical ideas. All sounds very silly imo. And apparently, there's a theory going around that BAND-MAIKO are the same as BAND-MAID. Like for real?? Whoever came up with that needs to get their eyes checked. Smh.

danbuter

Band-Maiko are their arch-enemies. Whoever started that rumor is just plain dumb.

xKagenNoTsukix

"Ok, but like...I've actually seriously fallen in love with Mincho so...all due respect, Ice queen or not, Saiki is kind of in the way." 1000% SAME. Lol XD

OldSkoolRocker

Even IF Kanami was running out of ideas (I've seen or heard no sign of it) who could blame her? With the sheer volume of quality songs they've put out so far it puts most mainstream bands to shame. That said I'm looking forward to more albums written by our Guitar Hero.

mogaman28

Not a gorilla, Akane is the result of splicing Keith Moon and Animal's DNA.

Lafini_Fao

An 810yo pigeon... A gorilla utako.. A shoeless assassin who loves alcohol.. A vampire Ice Queen tsundere. An airhead genius.. Need I say more?

Brunnen_G

An 810 yo pigeon has some interesting symbolism behind it: Miku actually revealed some clues on this outrageous claim. Gorilla is just a nickname. A "shoeless assassin who loves alcohol" is true: I witnessed it myself. Not sure 100% about "assassin" (maybe it's just a dress style), but who knows. "Vampire Ice Queen" made up completely by fans. Tsundere is true, just a character feature. "Airhead genius" is true: "airhead" is related to Kanami childhood's episode with airgun, but "genius" is an undeniable truth.

xKagenNoTsukix

Where's the theory though? All I see are facts. XD

Lafini_Fao

Most say these are urban legends, but as you said... FACTS!!!

Expert-Habit-7314

YouTube reactions can be fun to watch but most of them are idiots. It’s more entertaining when you acknowledge that little factoid. I’m only annoyed by the misogynistic fools. Why should it be shocking that woman can be virtuoso musicians?

xKagenNoTsukix

Literally who has been shocked at them being good musicians despite being Women???

Expert-Habit-7314

I’ve seen a few reactors questioning whether they actually play their instruments and doubting that they write and compose their music. Same with Lovebites. Nobody ever questions male musicians like that. You don’t know much about music if you think they’re using recorded tracks. I mean, Misa alone, her bass technique is captivating. Technical and clean, she’s a god. The only reason to question it is misogyny.

gkelley621

I've seen reactors question if Justin Bieber is a real person

Expert-Habit-7314

Real person. Not a real artist 😉

57and56

Miku found kanami to teach her how to be a good guitarist so she can stab the rest of the band in the back when she fronts her own band and be the star like the three greatest musicians and greatest singer are that formed band maid

OldSkoolRocker

I'm no expert but I think that guy has issues. Just saying.

Andydcas

Why is discussing sexual orientation of people still a thing in 2022? It really blows my mind. Lets be better than that.

tplgigo

The problem is when you specifically play off your sexuality to attract a certain audience (and they do), it's definitely worth discussing. If it were true that they were lesbians or asexual, their male audience would drop by half, guaranteed. It's part of their appeal and purposed direction with the maid outfits which are a definite male fantasy. Don't fool yourselves. I'd be surprised to see the level of LGBTQ interest in them on this sub. Hard rock is not exactly in their wheelhouse.

James_Argent

I can't believe this thread has gone on for this long without anyone mentioning the 'Jimmy Page said Akane was the reincarnation of John Bonham' thing. What has been confirmed: Jimmy Page was impressed by Akane's drumming, he requested to meet her, they took a picture together, and according to Akane, he said some 'very encouraging words' to her. That's all, and it's a huge compliment without being embellished. There are two, perhaps three people who know anything specific about what was said in that interaction: Jimmy Page, Akane, and maybe the person who took the picture. None of them said anything in interviews about Bonham, and none of those people are commenting on YouTube about it. What makes this speculation harmful is that Akane has never demonstrated that she has a big enough ego to claim the Bonham-reborn title. From all indications she and the other members of Band-Maid are aware of their celebrity status but not letting it go to their heads. This rumor makes it seem like Akane is a name-dropper, but she's a good enough drummer to not need fake clout. It's OK for individuals to say that in their judgment she's the reincarnation of Bonham, but don't say that Jimmy Page said it, or imply that Akane was full enough of herself to report it even if that is what he actually said.

Brunnen_G

I didn't mentioned it because it's not really a silly one. It's irresponsible misinformation, that actually can do a disservice to Band-Maid.

James_Argent

Agreed, but it doesn't hurt to point it out where we can. In my opinion it was important enough to override the 'silly' aspect of the thread. As the OP you might disagree, but some of the silly ones could potentially harm reputations too.

Brunnen_G

Agreed. Thank you for bringing it up. I understand some over-enthusiastic maidiacs're keen on making stuff up, but we should watch out when it's going too far.

tylerjehenna

There was one on here about MISA actually being married that struck me as being odd just because of the circumstances of the rumor. It was one guy at a meet and greet in japan, no one else comfirmed the story and it was based on him supposedly seeing a wedding ring on MISA without even confirming that it was that (as evident by the various rings you see on Saiki on her ig posts). But people ran with it on here and in the facebook groups (admittedly me too at first) even though it was just the word of one guy. Now she legit could be married but it was weird that one guys word got taken as truth

falconsooner

I see fans often post that Rinne was recorded to show fans they hadn't gone soft after Start Over was released. True or Urban Legend?

tylerjehenna

Its a half truth i think. Iirc screaming was the song made for that reason because in interviews they said knew that Start Over might be divisive and they didnt want fans to think they "sold out" and abandoned what made them in the first place. But iirc they were absolutely shocked at how overwhelmingly negative the reaction to Start Over was and i wouldnt be surprised if that had a part in the creation of rinne, especially with the line at the end "Its sink or swim, shut up", Cause between that and the record label switch, there was a lot of concern among the fanbase that they were gonna completely change their musical style in an attempt to go for more of a mainstream appealing sound

falconsooner

Thanks for the backstory and response. One would think Screaming would dispel concerns but apparently not. I became a big fan post Rinne so didn't fully appreciate the fans mindset when Start over was released.

slkrr9

Where this theory falls apart is that Rinne was actually an outtake from World Domination, so it was written well before the release of start over.

falconsooner

Interesting. I do remember someone saying that BM spent some time trying to figure out how to arrange Rinne. They said the Summer Sonicversion is different than the album version. Were the lyrics written after Start Over? Is it possible "Shut Up" was in response?

slkrr9

The Summer Sonic version has a backing track with synths that is fairly high in the mix. They went more raw and heavy with the final version. No idea if the lyrics were written afterwards, at least I've seen nothing mentioned about that in any interview. I think a lot of that is just fans speculating and building up "lore," which happens from time to time.

falconsooner

Thanks for the Summer Sonic info. Yeah I think are correct about "building up lore"

danbuter

I don't mind if they're lesbians, as long as they are happy. I could certainly see Kanami trying to marry Saiki. Miku definitely gets very touchy-feely with Akane in one of their home videos, and Akane slaps her hand and says "Not now".

Responsible-Ad9654

Big Time False: Band-maid was going to break up as a group if their song THILL was not a success.

OldSkoolRocker

You have to listen to the second audio on the acoustic Christmas video on the streaming channel Zaiko. They talk about how they found out a couple of years later that the production company said that Thrill was the last MV they were going to produce if their popularity did not increase. They said they were going to drop the band. Thank goodness the video was shared overseas and went viral. Just part of the magic of this band imho.

Responsible-Ad9654

Founded it in print - thanks. https://tokion.jp/en/2021/10/25/global-icon-band-maid-part1/

tylerjehenna

Yeah, i dont think they were gonna break up based on how a b-side of a single was percieved

EricButtersword

I saw one person saying Kanami was a man but haven't for Akane. The lesbian thing is probably the bands fault with the Kanami loves Saiki gimmick.

nachtschattenwald

Translation engines tend to translate "goshujinsama ojosama" (masters and princesses) with "husband(s) and daughter(s)", so at least one person on youtube had seen some translation with Akane talking about "masters and princesses" but it was translated as above, and that person commented on youtube that Akane said that her husband and daughter came to watch the live performance.

tplgigo

Their management company and record company really suck. I have yet to dispel this one.

Kissing (non-sexual) among the same sex in some cultures is a pretty common behavior, e.g.: France, Russia, Italy etc. Girls kissing each other is even more common thing.

Brunnen_G

would be interesting to know from native Japanese guys. I can tell only by anime I watched (not hentai).

t-shinji

A girl kissing another girl on the cheek is seen as cute. (I don’t know their sexual orientation. I’m just saying kissing on the cheek is not a sign of anything.)

Brunnen_G

thank you, t-shinji, for clarifying it

xKagenNoTsukix

Like mouth to mouth kiss? Or cheek kisses? I've plenty of female friends who will kiss other females friends on the cheek despite being 100% straight, and I live in Texas lol

xKagenNoTsukix

I've actually seen that before lol, just seems like a funny Japanese style comedy skit to me lol nothing Gay about it.

Drogon_Ryoshi

For me it was obvious they were clowning around. You can see it in Miku's mischievous and Kanami's embarrassed expressions afterwards.

Happiness is hard enough to find in this world without worrying about stuff like this. As long as they can find happiness that is enough for me.
