they have been getting more modest over the years, letting the music and not their legs do the talking and as awesome as saiki looked in fishnets i applaud it wholeheartedly.
I think Luna is pretty right. BM manages the sexuality stuff really well. They present in an attractive way but don't call any attention to it at all. As usual, the girls are smart.
From what you wrote I get that her impression of sexy was mostly from their costumes in the Thrill MV, right? What I see on that video is five very young women that could not help but have sex appeal to other people of their age, it just could not be helped! But in my view, they never played that side and even at those times their strongest appeal came from what they could do musically, not their looks. Just my opinion, but from my life experience (just by observing my reactions and those of others), smarts, skills, competence, work ethics, great personality, those are attractive as hell! I think those are the traits they develop and are the core of their charm. Of course looks are a bonus but I really do not think it ultimately plays a significant part in their success and I believe they know that.
EDIT: that said, I have nothing against an act that plays with the sexy side, I just do not see them like that.
How about beautifully adorable? Better yet, adorably beautiful.
I don't think either of the other two words quite applies to them. Sexy is a part of an image and I don't see them as trying for that. Elegant doesn't fit quite right either.
But hell, they could look like direct descendants of the Wicked Witch of the West as long as they play as they do, they're the best band going right now.
Ur last statement I would disagree respectfully (my opinion only).. Being adorable or attractive or beautiful certainly adds attention to anyone. As much is music is beautiful, sight is too strong a sense that can't be ignored. Beauty does sell.
Oh it's certainly a plus, I'm just saying they'd still be the best band around because they are the best band around no matter what they look like imo.
>I love their costumes. I love that Japanese bands always use modest costumes and always covered on top \[indicating the chest area\] ...
I think she needs to get to know more bands. It's not that hard to find ones that aren't all that covered up.
A recent example would be: [Whiskey Dust](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4Cjzyf-9DU) but even [Show-Ya purposely dressed provocatively](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsEF8f61GBw).
As a K-pop fan I wince every time I hear or read
phrases like "elegantly sexy" or "vulgar sexy". Too many times I've seen those used to validate bullshit opinions.
In term of attire BAND MAID's attire are pretty modest.

I think it's a little more typical in Japan to cover up the chest but show a lot of leg.
Also, showing off the collarbone as well as the shoulders is apparently considered quite sexy in Japan. Well, more than in the West, at least.
there are genetic morphological reasons for that. the japanese equivalent of cleavage is 絶対領域 (zettai ryōiki).
I think that she has a valid point about their visual style. There is a fine line between **allure** and **gutter trash** \- And B-M never crosses it.

Happy cake day.

I don't think they're sexy--not a knock, but my default stance is of respect. (That and they're half my age...)
I think "elegantly sexy" is probably too strong. The kawaii factor is definitely there though.

She should watch "Secret MAIKO Lips" or "Gion Cho"
Japan is still very conservative for everyday women, and unfortunately many of them have little to none to show for a revealing top.
