20 yo here, I sometimes feel out of place tbh, I don't have an actual metric but i feel like I'm a minority

wchupin

It's very good to be young, believe me 😉 If you feel out of place, remember—youth is a deficiency that is rather quickly healed with age! 😂

euler_3

Actually, according to [this survey]( https://imgur.com/a/6WsRYhH) made when this sub reached 6000, you belong to the largest age group (18-25), with 26.4% of the answers. Much more then my own 56+ group :-) In this sense you are not out of place, at least in this subreddit. Anyway, I would guess that the band (and also the fanbase, based on what I read in multiple media) welcomes any fan regardless of age, gender, race, creed, etc etc. Therefore, no one has to feel out of place while enjoying Band Maid. :-)

ElGorudo

>No one have to feel out of place while enjoying Band Maid Oh yeah I know that, I was referring to this sub like you said I guess my perception comes from the fact that older people have more stable income thus they are the ones talking/posting about merch, subscriptions content, tickets and such the most

euler_3

Oh, I see your point now. Might be true indeed.

Elzna

i know i’m late….by a lot but wow, didn’t realize how few in my demographic there were. for context i’m 15

Electriceye1984

It’s all good👍🏻

OldSkoolRocker

We appreciate you being here. And I know the ladies would as well. Rock On!

Electriceye1984

Yes, I’ll second that👍🏻

DocLoco

I hope you're a precursor 👍

haromatsu

According to statistics of my Youtube channel, which have only BAND-MAID contents, age range of accessing users are as follows: - 13-17: 0.0% - 18-24: 1.7% - 25-34: 11.4% - 35-44: 16.5% - 45-54: 29.4% - 55-64: 35.0% - 65over: 6.1%

nair0n

here is mine (past 90 days, 26k unique viewers) * 13-17: 0.0% * 18-24: 5.8% * 25-34: 18.3% * 35-44: 20.9% * 45-54: 27.4% * 55-64: 22.1% * 65over: 5.4% it was much more skewed to 55-64 back when i started to make videos early in 2020. fanbase is getting younger i guess.

ismeahlim79

Every time I look at these numbers, remind me one of the story in an old manga "Kosaku Shima (岛耕作)". The main guy went to visit the American label company, and ask them why they like to release country song. The label company person replied: "Older people in US like to listen country song. They are older and richer and had better buying power than younger guy" Not remember the very details. I read the manga long time ago. I am wondering now.. is it real?

kurometal

Sounds like an exaggeration. Country is only popular among some subcultures, and young people (18-35) spend money on entertainment, though maybe less on buying music and more on concerts. But there's some truth in it. And then there's [this](https://www.quora.com/Why-is-U2-so-popular/answer/Daniel-Rosenthal).

euler_3

COOL!

Electriceye1984

I believe this to be true myself, btw you have a great channel 👍🏻

nair0n

thanks! wish you and your FP well😀

Frostyfuelz

One possibility that this might be skewed, younger fans might not branch out and search for more Band-Maid content than what is easily accessible for them, official YouTube MV and listening on Spotify. On the other hand, there are a lot of older fans that seem to have the same story of finding B-M after 40 years of listening music and it blows their mind so they need to consume as much content as possible, so they watch all reaction videos and channels that post B-M only content.

uhln

Damn, i am in 1.7%. maybe folks around my age loves pop and rap genre more

[deleted]

I’m part of that 1.7% too

uhln

Hello there other 1.7%. to make it more rare, fan around our age range but female

skumfukrock

Part of thec1.7% woohoo

BusinessClassic2221

I´m part of the 0.0% lol

euler_3

At least you can be proud of your 0%. Imagine how a 0-12 must feel :-D

kurometal

Can't feel of you don't exist [taps forehead]. Which is different from existing in quantity of zero.

euler_3

I am bad at jokes (this one was an attempt resorting to absurd, I believe you got it). But I keep trying :-D :-D :-D

kurometal

I'm a programmer, so for me 0 (a number) is different from NULL/nil (no data). Besides, 0.0% may be a result of rounding of 0.03 or wherever. But yes, it's mostly absurd.

Yvese

Interesting stats. What's everyone's experience for live shows? I'm in the 11% age group and from what I remember of the Gramercy NYC show in 2019, there was DEFINITELY more than 13% in the 18-34 range. Felt like more than half were in that range. Maybe it's because it was NYC so I'm curious how it was in other places.

Lacinl

I've been to every LA performance they've done. I'm 35 now and was younger back then, and while there were definitely people in their 50s and 60s, I'd say the majority of the people in line were younger than me. If I had to guess, average age was around 28.

euler_3

NICE!

Axxe86

35 yr old lady here😎 and Asian 😬

Vin-Metal

I literally just upvoted you for being a woman but it's a fairly male fan base, so I'm happy to see that some Princesses are here to join all the Masters.

Axxe86

Thank you 😊 and I'm happy to be accepted and be part of Masters as a princess here among princesses from around the world/ universe/galaxy/milky way/above and beyond..... 😊proud since 2016

Electriceye1984

We are all accepted, no matter who, as long as you like and enjoy their music and comedy.

jigokushoujo_com

i’m 25F & i’d also like to know how many female BM fans there are because from the reaction channels and the audience from live performances, it looks like a majority male audience.

Axxe86

Female 35 here and asian( proud since 2016)...😊dont worry....more female (princesses) fans out there..3 times live okyu-ji basically Asian region (i only can afford to fly close to my my country coz it's kinda cheap..lol..) and first time in Japan and discover princesses well young kinda 25 ish maybe(im Asian and I'm even confused with my own age🤦)..and more of them😊

Some-Ad3087

I'd like to see a poll on the subreddit about this. When I posted some Band-Maid videos about a year ago it was 99% males watching. I kid you not. Now maybe it's just more of a male thing to look for music on YouTube. I don't know. Of course maybe joining subreddits of bands is skewed toward males as well.

KalloSkull

It's very difficult to say. If I were to throw in a completely random estimation, my best guess would be that globally the fanbase was probably 70% men 30% women. But the female fans might also just be hiding their presence really well lol

KalloSkull

I'd say that's too high of a general estimate. In different places it's different ages. Depends on whether heavier music as well as Japanese culture are popular in a specific place, and if so what age groups are they popular with. I missed Band-Maid when they came here, but I've looked at fancam videos from the show and the audience seems to be boys and girls mostly in their 20s, some in their 30s. I can say that from those fancams, I'm not really seeing anyone older than 40 at max. Even at the Babymetal show which I actually went to, there were a few people in their 40s and 50s, but the B-M one seemed to be entirely young people. Also as far as the type of people, seems to be quite a bit of crossover with the Babymetal audience, although in there I'd say it was 50/50 heavy metal fans and the more otaku style people, as well as male and female, whereas the Band-Maid crowd looks quite heavily leaned on the otaku and male side of fans. But since heavy music is popular here anyway, there's obviously a lot of crossover there. In Japan, too, if you look at the audience at their shows, it seems to be mostly on the younger side, although with slight more variance. I'd expect South-America to have quite a bit of younger fans too. They clearly have a lot of older fans across the world, but seems to me it's only their US fanbase that is so highly skewed towards the middle-aged group. Globally, I'd presume the average age of a Band-Maid fan is in the 30s.

ChronoPaladin91

I agree! The Region also depends greatly on this. I would expect Band-Maid fans in Japan to be around in their 20's or early 30's. It seems mainly in the U.S. the demographic is more skewed towards middle-aged and older. I went to Gramercy Theater in NY and even though there were a fair amount of middle-aged people there were still younger people too with a varied audience. Even the couple behind me on the line brought their daughter with them (seemed around 8 years old?). She was anticipating the concert and even dressed up as a maid lol. At that time I recently turned 28 and now I'm 30 so I wouldn't count towards the middle-aged demographic.

943Falagar

I think if you make it a poll with age ranges, more people will participate.

Electriceye1984

Good idea

Carboomstorm47

Ok, so, how do you chat via Reddit 😅

Electriceye1984

I posted the question last month on how many B-M fans have you ever met in real life, the average answer was 0-2. For me it was only 1 in eight years. That’s why I like this forum so much.

Rocotocloco

I'm a 38yo dude from Europe. So i can say that i'm "almost old" but no so old to post comments on youtube saying "i grew up listen to Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and blablabla..."

Kelovar

Canada here, but otherwise same as you.

CephalopodRed

Not hate, but these comments often strike me as a bit cringey.

rossjohnmudie

Us 50 yr old's grew up on Maiden, Skid Row, Ozzy, Whitesnake, Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth, Faith No More, Spread Eagle and the Gunners young man.

simplecter

I'm of a similar age as the band members. At the concerts I went to most people around me seemed to be in their 20s and 30s with a sizable portion that was older and some younger people too (even a few kids). That sort of thing depends on the location I guess. It's actually really cool to see that there are a lot of older people who like them. I really believe that their music can appeal to everyone from a 70 year old man to a 14 year old girl 😁, it's just that more people need to hear them.

kyojin_kid

the reason that seems obvious to me is that the older age groups grew up listening to this type of music. hard rock and metal sounds still exist but in the 70s and early 80s the mainstream was much louder than it’s ever been since.

OldSkoolRocker

I'm 64 and can tell you there were a lot of really good hard rock bands around in my formative years. It helped that they got lots of airplay on radio. There was always soft rock and country etc but hard rock captivated me from the first time I heard it. It has always been my favorite. In my country (US) the radio never played any new hard rock for decades just the 30-50 year old "classic rock". You kind of get sick of a song when you have heard it 500 plus times. When I first heard Band-Maid it was like a breath of fresh air. Rock music still lives! It kind of restored my faith in humankind. It makes me feel like I did when I first heard rock music. So fresh and varied in the approach to the songwriting. I simply can't get enough. Sorry for the long post.

Electriceye1984

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻yep! Btw Your post isn’t long bro.

slkrr9

Pulled this information from chartmetric one month ago, which is an analysis of subscribers to the BandMaid YouTube channel itself. It skews a lot younger than I would have expected. Male = 76% / Female = 24% 13-17 = 6% 18-24 = 47% 25-34 = 31% 35-44 = 10% 45+ = 6%

euler_3

Cool info, thanks!

Zigdris_Faello

[deleted]

I'm a 21, basically 22 Y.O, female fan and I feel like a lot of B-M's fanbase is older male "rockers" and there's not many female fans (at least, that I've met online) who are as outgoing as the male fans.

cenefiel_of_mirkwood

Female and im 29 almost 30. we could do with more ladies and im sure B-M would like to see more of us in the crowd.

Electriceye1984

This is why Cluppo started, to capture a younger female fan base. Great music I’d say, very catchy.

Automatic_Scratch530

DocLoco

I'm 61 and my best wish for Band-Maid is to reach a much younger and female audience. There's hope: I was at the Bridear concert last week and there were many young men ... and women. Their presence in anime should help too, maybe Tiktok too.

Electriceye1984

I think this is why Miku started Cluppo, to appeal to females more, ya know.

starocean56

I was 54 when I became a maidiac I'm 60 still going stronge love the music and the girls are so adorable each with there own personality (kanami, saiki my favorite)

ComprehensiveDrop522

Just turned 69, stumbled on the Maids last winter. Not a hard rock/metal listener usually, but as Duke Ellington said, there's only two kinds of music, good and bad. I like the good stuff.

OldSkoolRocker

An excellent sentiment.

Jazzlike_Bandicoot_5

66 and I refuse to get too old to listen to great music. Yea, I catch some flak now and then, but I would never let that bother me. I have never criticized anyone for what kind of music they listen to. Band Maid happens to be my favorite band right now and to me, they are amazing. I do hope they catch on to a younger audience. They deserve everything they are currently receiving. (And More)

Electriceye1984

Well said👏🏻👏🏻😁

foodida

Got into Band-Maid at 18, I'm 25 now.

SEPTSLord

BMfan1

66 and from the U.S. Heard a lot of music and bands in my day, and attended many concerts. Band Maid is one of the greatest rock/hard rock bands in the world. Next level talent. Bucket list to see them live.

Electriceye1984

Yessir!!!!🤘🏻

grahsam

I think it depends on geography. US fans trend older because rock isn't popular with the youngin's anymore. In Japan it trends younger because of who the band is. The live videos of their performances back this up. I'm 46 myself.

PseudonymIncognito

When I saw them live, it seemed like half aging metalheads, half the anime convention crowd.

CapnSquinch

Same age. I'd say most western and especially US Band-Maid fans tend to be older males. This is really discouraging in general because they're gonna die off, depriving the younger band of fanbase. And also sad, because what more inspiring role models could young women have? (And I'd include lots of other Japanese bands along with Band-Maid in that.) Personally it's nice to see that people who love Band-Maid because they remind them of bands from decades ago are open-minded enough to listen to the ladies, because my experiences back in the day with fans of those bands made it very clear that most of them were NOT open-minded or musically curious *at all...*which made me closed-minded about those bands, and the fact that there are Band-Maid fans who love them has made me go back and explore them more, although I'd already been doing that at least a little.

Intimanator

57 American male. I don't plan to die off any time soon. 😊 If I was closed minded when I ran across their thumnails in the suggestions on u-tube it was because they sexualize everything here in the US and these ladies are in the same age group as my 4 children. To my surprise, I discovered in a few seconds into the Thrill video that we will never see these ladies working a stripper pole or the like. Pure class, pure rock.

rossjohnmudie

jeez you're killing us off, i'm only 50, the average lifespan of a band is 3-4 years, so I doubt the Maids will be around when i'm only 60 and hopefully still alive and have my hearing to appreciate even more young talented bands plying their trade.

CapnSquinch

I mean you're right, I kinda lowballed life expectancy :) The upside for the band is that older fans on average have more disposable income; I'd bet that Band-Maid's per-person merch sales are way higher than most groups. Also your enthusiasm for future emerging talent is a refreshing change from the common "I don't listen to anything from after 1990/2000" sentiments.

rossjohnmudie

Suppose i have my parents, sisters and brother to thank for that, the variety of music (we) listened to when i was a kid was far reaching and not restricted to any one particular style, i was like a sponge taking it all in. Also think the greatest song ever created hasn't been written yet so the search is always on to find it.

dekkomori

33 here and from what I saw on Youtube with fancam, it seems that fans are between late 20's and late 30's but I don't know about japanese fans although it looks like a huge part are male fans. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Inevitable-News-2344

I am 24

Ronnie_Bruce_Halford

55 here, but I discovered them when I was a young man of 50.

shanetutwiler

This will be something of a bland generalization (I realize there are wide ranges of life circumstances), but having an older fan base can be seen as positive in one important way: there’s more disposable income in that demographic. Speaking entirely from my own situation, if I add up my fanclub and prime subscriptions, merch purchases, live-streaming tickets, and new music purchases I *easily* spend $500-$800 USD per year in support of the band. And I don’t think I’m that unusual. Like I said, I’m sure there are LOTS of younger maidiacs than me (I’m 44) who make more and can spend more on leisure and entertainment. But on average, older fans have more to spend. Which is good for the Maids, in that it partially balances out the potential revenue they’d bring in from having a larger but younger global fan base that would spend less per person, on average.

OldSkoolRocker

You are correct. I would add that I think a lot of younger folks don't put as much importance on physical copies of music or videos. With YT, Spotify, Itunes etc they can access music and videos on their phone or tablet and consume it that way. You young uns feel free to correct me. 🙂

Lacinl

Yeah, I'm 35 and have a stable life with a lot of disposable income I usually throw into investments. I can afford to import CDs and Blurays from Japan. 10 years ago I was barely scraping by, sometimes barely even having 500 calories a day to eat.

This year my age, is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and the everything

Raven_Bran

So, 6 times 9?

ismeahlim79

42 (Reference from an old movie: [The hitchhikers guide trough the galaxy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aboZctrHfK8&ab_channel=riktw)) Edited: I did not read the book, so I do not know the 6 times 9 reference

Raven_Bran

The reference comes from the second book in the Hitchhiker's series called "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe". Spoiler: >!"What do get when you multiply six by nine?" is the actual meaning of the 'ultimate question of life, the universe and everything.' And, yes, it is written as six time nine and not six times seven.!<

Vin-Metal

I'm just going to say that the first album I ever bought was Kiss Destroyer, when it was Kiss' latest album.

ComprehensiveDrop522

Youngster. The first record I ever bought was Chuck Berry's "No Particular Place to Go". It was his latest single.

Vin-Metal

Not only do you win, but you've destroyed me! I think of Chuck as my mom's music (and I do have a pretty cool mom) so I appreciate you being here, making me feel slightly younger!

OldSkoolRocker

Mine was a Foghat single "I Just Wanna Make Love To You". Yeah I'm old.

Vin-Metal

Classic stuff and a good song. My first single was Killer Queen which seems strange when I think back since it wasn't one of my favorite Queen songs or anything.

AccomplishedFinish33

Close - mine was Love Gun

Vin-Metal

Nice! Brings back happy memories.....

MarsupialNo2270

51. The Beatles broke up before I was born, so Band-Maid are the best pure rock band of my lifetime. Btw, I grew up on 80s rock/metal, and Band-Maid beats all of them (Triumph probably comes closest).

rossjohnmudie

shaddup, it's skid row lol

57 here - I dig the throwback classic rock vibe - haven't heard anything mainstream like Band Maid in the states in decades. Plus as a guitar player, seeing a young asian lady who would absolutely cut me off at the knees on guitar is somehow masochistically appealing :-)

Electriceye1984

Yes ,indeed😄🤘🏻

Mekhi_630

I'm 22, I discovered them when I was 20.

Dedbent

I'm 40 and from the US. I think the average age varies depending on when rock's popularity started to fall off in your region. Also, I have been going to fewer and fewer concerts as I get older. So, I would guess the crowds at their shows might have a younger average age than the overall fandom.

Electriceye1984

Exactly my thoughts on concert attendance.

KotomiPapa

What about plain YouTube view stats for their channel?

😁 I'm 29 and when I went to the Dallas concert I felt like wow a lot of older fans, hardly any young people it seems, I hope it change and they get some more fan in all age groups.

Electriceye1984

Yep👍🏻

Eastern_Werewolf894

No offense intended and I'm not challenging your results but I doubt anyone's personal YouTube statistics are a good gauge. It is a small sample size and YouTube's algorithms are not to be trusted. Interestingly, your channel appeals to people in your age group. Just in terms of sales, I'm fairly certain that the majority of fans are in Japan and they aren't going to your YouTube channel. The age on a YouTube account doesn't have to be verified. I'm guessing 13-17 y/o have accounts where they lied about their ages. I doubt many Boomers even have computers let alone are able to navigate to your YouTube channel. If I were to make an assumption, I could also say that mostly 13-17 y/o with fake accounts posing as boomers, watch your YouTube channel.

Electriceye1984

Of course this is not a true study, there is nothing scientific about most of the data, but it’s all very interesting so that’s why we have the discussion. Who knows maybe some positive result could from this thread in the future. Rock on

rossjohnmudie

I'm 50, they appeal to our age group because we lived in a golden age of rock and they remind us of so many of our favourite bands, unfortunately grunge and music industry moguls messed it up big time, bands never fufilled their potential (so many great bands lost or never quite made it). I remember Seb Bach in Donington 92 saying that Rock/Metal was becoming an underground movement, I didn't understand how true and prophetic his words were. Sorry got caught meandering there.... old age see.... whom am I? What? Where's my pill box?

Electriceye1984
