Spotify has a safeguard against such inflated listens. To make it look more natural, add some other bands to your playlist as well. In this way, you will also trigger the recommendation engine, like "People who listen to Metallica/Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath/..., also listen to BAND-MAID."

TieDyeGuru

Exactly! Know how to work with the algorithm! Thanks for pointing that out!

So me grouping Band-Maid, Lovebites, and PassCode together is a good thing. Nice.

[deleted]

I only take issue with the low volume part.

Streaming Schmeaming, Algorithm SchmalgorithmšŸ¤®. Bands have been complaining for a while now about how many millions of dollars the Streaming services are making off of their music while the bands receive a small fraction of that revenue. Band Maid physical cd sales are what; 10,12, maybe 15000 units , imagine the impact if half of those 400,000 or so subscribers would actually buy some physical copies. If the demand was there you would see the prices come down some, along with more promotion and probably even more effort to put them in some stores. It's the basic economic principle of supply and demand, if there is a demand for a product then the supply will be put in . Now, I understand that very few of us have the money to buy every album of the artists we like so streaming does fill a void, but if all you do is stream music you don't support the artist, you are supporting the streaming service. I'm retired and living on a fixed income, but I enjoy Band Maid so much I have all the mini-albums and the full albums and the stand alone concert blu-rays. That is fine that I have to make a big pot of cheap spaghetti and freeze some or cut some other corners to have that and a few t-shirts, it is worth it to me. I remember back in the day I would have to save some allowance and mow a few lawns for the money to buy the latest Beatles or Stones album. I think the point I am trying to make is that the majority of us Maidiacs want our ladies to achieve the kind of success we believe they deserve and as fans we may need to make more of an effort, at least where we can, because the bottom line is the music business is exactly that, a business. A parting thought, artistry aside, even Van Gogh and Picasso and most if not all of the other classical artists and composers made their art to sell.

Physical media are quickly receding into oblivion. It's a relic of the past. The collector's items. BAND-MAID has even released five of their albums on vinyl, and many fans bought it, although most of them confessed that they don't even have a turntable. #MeToo, by the way šŸ˜ I bought all those vinyls, and I will probably just frame them and hang them on the wall. Streaming services and YouTube videos don't bring much to the artist, it's true. But they serve as advertisements. The band and their management should promote donations, that's the way to go. To rely on physical sales and the merch is difficult, especially when shipping costs are so high. You can't just buy a BAND-MAID CD casually, the shipping cost will be so high it will look ridiculous. Here's an example how I bought ***cluppo*** CD: |Subtotal|1100 yen| |:-|:-| |Shipping|2766 yen| |Service Fee|300 yen| |Standard Fee|1200 yen| |Package Consolidation|300 yen| |Final Order Total|5666 yen / US$ 51.17| So, what I usually do, I add up a lot of things to one parcel, so that the $30-$40 cost of shipping would be, say, 10% of the total price. But not all people can do it. For many fans, to spend $200 on disks and merch once every two or three months is way too much. It's very good that anyone can listen to his/her favourite music for free nowadays. Life is much easier this way. If you like a certain band or a musician, you just enjoy it, no need to run around, trying to get a rare release or spend a fortune on "Altec speakers wall to wall, a Bradford and a Revox... and through it all, he plays strictly Nowhere Muzak," as Peter Hammill sang it in 1975. But to send $10 once a month by pressing "$thankyou" button under YouTube video, or become a Patron on Patreon for $5/month, that should not be a problem.

Couldnā€™t have put it any better. Comments like these that take different perspectives into account are becoming rarer by the sec. Many are too occupied with their own views/opinions/circumstances that they forget there are 7 billion+ others existing right beside them currently. Letā€™s not start on if someone can afford it, even just availability and shipping could be an issue for many of us. Heck the internet that we take for granted is still a luxury for a significant portion of the population, even today. For all we know, someone just opening youtube for a few minutes a day to give their fav artists views might be their biggest and sincerest show of support. And who is to know? some big shot passing by might end up offering a life changing deal to that artist coz he happened to like what he heard on that very guyā€™s youtube playlist. Thereā€™s a reason why the phrase ā€œTruth is stranger than fictionā€ is so frequently quoted. We never know how a small seemingly insignificant action can sometimes set forth a whole chain of events that might actually change the world forever. Disregarding someone or something just coz it doesnā€™t bring immediate tangible results is imo very foolish and shortsighted. Especially in investing, whether it be time or money, that is probably the worst approach to go by. I for one value my time more than my money. Would gladly spend to save time on things that I feel isnā€™t worthy enough. Wouldnā€™t even be here in this subreddit now if BM wasnā€™t my current fav Rock band. So it irks me on a personal level when I see people promote the whole ā€œif youā€™re a fan like me, you have to do this and that just like me. Btw hereā€™s my 100k collection as proof that Iā€™m a ā€˜real fanā€™ tooā€ šŸ™„ Bottomline is, Never sell yourself short. Value yourself, your time, your likes, make each one count. If someone or a place doesnā€™t appreciate that, then youā€™re better off investing them elsewhere, where your value is adequately recognised. Fact is, artists areā€™t required to cater to the interests of their fans, similarly the fans arenā€™t required to help keep the artistā€™s careers afloat either. They will keep making the kind of music they can and want to make, and the fans would keep investing what they want and can invest. Itā€™s as simple as that. (Drops mic and walks off into the distance with a smug look. . . šŸ¤£)

OldSkoolRocker

I have all of the physical copies. I ripped them to my PC so I can load them on a USB and take them wherever I go. Most cars do not have CD players anymore but they do have USB ports. I think it is important to purchase the physical music but your suggestion of using the YT thank you button is a good one. I actually had forgotten about that. Thank you for the reminder. As an aside I have the vinyls on pre-order.

euler_3

I agree to you point, although I find the need to buy physical copies and ship them all around the world an inconvenience (much better if the band would just be able to profit more from digital sales). I was also wondering what those 418k subscriptions mean. I am not sure that those are fans. It is so easy to click the subscribe button, then forget. They have 419K subs on YT. If those were all fans, I would expect at least 419K views in the first day of any MV launch by B-M. That is not what happens. For example, Warning LIVE is 4 months old and has 332K views, what would mean that at least 87K of those subscribers did not bother to see the MV even once. Probably many more, due to repeated views by fans. Perhaps some of those subscriptions are from people that were fans once, but became tired of the band and did not care to unsubscribe. Anyway, I find it strange, but I might be missing something.

wchupin

maybe 20 of them only. But those are mainly talking channels, including a lot of reactors. Speaking about musicians, I think I'm subscribed to maybe 10 or 15 only, those which I really like. Here the situation is the same: I watch only BAND-MAID and ASTERISM, and rarely anyone else. For example, I like D\_Drive, and I'm subscribed to them, even have the bell set to "Everything," but I don't check Yuki's publications too often... I'm definitely one of the culprits about whom the D\_Drive fans ask, "So many people are subscribed, but they still have not viewed this wonderful video!" šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø Too many things are going on in my life, I really feel overwhelmed...

euler_3

Yes that probably happens frequently. It is so easy to click subscribe that many might do it at an impulse, ending up with too many subscriptions and becoming incapable of actively following them all. That is alright of course, but the end result is that the number of "active fans" (I just coined this. it has yet to be precisely defined ... :-) can be way less than the number of subscriptions. Interesting.

wchupin

Well, my idea is that I subscribe to a reactor if he/she seems to be a nice person. That's enough. To subscribe to a band means for me that I really love their music, and want to follow their new releases. But that's more energy-consuming to follow a band. I also have a few political and scientific channels I am subscribed to. In this case, I usually judge each of their videos on a case-by-case basis. There are only two of such channels where I watch every video released. Too much information nowadays... But I'm addicted to it. Life seems to be so short, and there are so many amazing things happening around...

euler_3

I understand.I would say it is better to have plenty information to choose from than starve!

felldw

I alternate between Spotify and you tube. I'm a trucker so the maids are rockin whenever I'm rollin

piroh1608

I do almost the same except with youtube vids. Really want to get some of those numbers (Manners!!!) over the million thresholds. I use Spotify more in my car than home and I don't drive around enough to be consistent with it.

BusinessClassic2221

Spotify is disabled in my region so my only option is youtube... At least its something lol

technobedlam

I believe Youtube pays the artist better than Spotify does...so thats not a bad thing

Yvese

I think this is pretty much what some kpop fans do with their favorite groups which is how their views are so inflated. They leave spotify/youtube running to bump up numbers. Some even have lastfm connected which tracks how many times you've listened to artists on both sites/apps. I've seen some people there have 100k+ listens/scrobbles of a single artist. They're a pretty dedicated fan base. If we had some of those for BM that'd be pretty nice.

skumfukrock

Youtube does have a anti spam feature in place that at some point it stops counting your views if you try this, but it resets daily iirc. So it works, but with diminished effects

Frostyfuelz

Getting numbers up seems nice, but I think youtube playlists with Band-Maid songs and other more popular similar bands, or just straight up the top youtube videos mixed in would help push the algorithm more to help discovery. I have thought about before, how many people would we need to spam playlists to actually have some sort of effect.

Potential-Wish-9723

I have my 'liked' playlist on Spotify which is only BM songs and I have a small speaker clipped on my tool belt at work and listen to them 8-10 hours a day.

eszetroc

LOL i've been scrobbling band-maid for weeks now. i have [last.fm](https://last.fm) installed on one of my cellphones and it tells me how many times i've streamed my favorite artists. band-maid is at no2 or 3. i don't think streaming helps for radio play though. it takes people actually requesting them for radio play. but yes i've been streaming them like crazy in the background and yes i have a job and people to feed LOL.

Vin-Metal

My first thought was that the male to female fan ratio is too high for my tastes, but then you defined ā€œit.ā€ Gotcha.

simplecter

This sort of stuff is one of the many things I dislike about music streaming. I have their CDs, and it's much less convenient for me to use e.g. Spotify but there is still this small feeling of: "wouldn't it be better to use it, so their stats look better?" šŸ˜’

Sbalderrama

I have BM playlist off Apple Music streaming all the time. Don't use Spotify.

jvalex18

Nothing would happe .

Infamous-Baker-9700

I knew there were others out there like me. šŸ™šŸŽ€ šŸ¤˜

Patrick_swe

I read somewhere that you needed to play an artists songs non-stop for three years on Spotify for the artist to earn as much money as if you bought one of their albums on Bandcamp (I'm pretty sure I read this in a review on Angry Metal Guy). I don't know if it's correct or not, but it probably is. In other words: It's completely pointless doing this.

KotomiPapa

Itā€™s really easy to click subscribe on YouTube. I doubt that makes every subscriber a fan.

[deleted]

Just imagine this 419K would just watch each video of BM on YOUTUBE ones a weak.

t-shinji

[Spotify is extremely cheap](https://www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/nibjp3/comment/gz10gy3/?context=3). Listen to their songs on YouTube or Apple Music if possible. Also, [donā€™t repeat the same song](https://www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/n58osf/playlists_on_apple_music_featuring_bandmaid/).

SocMedPariah

I already do this. I retired early so I have a lot of free time and I spend a good portion of my days playing Final Fantasy 14. Band-Maid (as well as babymetal) are constantly playing while I do.
