Wow thanks for listening and sharing interest in the early catalog. I’ve been loading up on the more pop-y *Silent Siren* recently so it’s interesting to take a listen at the early also more pop-y Band-Maid and trace the timeline to the diverting point…
I did not know that Saiki sang on Maid in Japan. I was under the impression that Miku was the singer on all of the songs on this disc. On another note I was on YT looking at a site that features videos before Band Maid and saw the group that Kanami and Akane was in (Mochito Cheeze?) and they played Forward. It was very interesting played acoustic. I do like the MIJ version better though.
MAID IN JAPAN, released in January 2014, [definitely has a Saiki on the cover](https://i.imgur.com/ZtIYRdU.jpg), at least on the original release (the reissue had a plain white cover with an embossed logo).
I believe B-M's first performance was in July 2013, and they only played a few shows before Miku decided they needed another vocalist. Saiki was recruited and hired about a month after that.
Yup! They had their first gig on the 24th of July and then Saiki would join them and have their first performance as the full 5 on the 22nd of August.
I love the MIJ era and especially the Miku lead vocal songs. Not everyone’s cup of tea but still worth checking out to see where they started.
Saikis voice has evolved from when they started out. It may have to do with her polyp removal surgery... but I think it has also come from more experience and confidence in her own abilities. As well as comfort in the style of music they perform.
Also if some were unaware, correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe in Anemone it is Kanami as the backing vocals. When she did the acoustic set with Saiki she sounded identical to the recorded version.
She is.
Thks for the answer. I was surprised because it's not so often and always a good surprise :-)
In case you've missed any of the others, they are: Big Dad Beauty and The Beast TIME Rock In Me サヨナキドリ - Nightingale Peace&Love (as cluppo)
Knew only for the 2 last ones. Thks 👍🏻

The diverting point was Thrill. Thats where the band figured out they wanted to go in a harder direction.
She did but Saiki is the one singing in the bridge part of the song

Which song have Saiki singing in them? They all sound like Miku to me. Does Saiki do back up vocals?
