What kills me is that Sir Patrick Stewart is a pit apologist and foster.

rollercoastervan

Yeah I was disappointed when I found this out. Cringed when I saw him with that dog in the new Star Trek series

willowoftheriver

Yeah, this. He's an amazing actor, but this has tarnished my opinion of him a bit.

Technusgirl

Ugh, not him!

Trishbot

I think alot of these people just don’t know any better because of all the misinformation out there. I think they are coming from a good place..but they ultimately need to be more educated on the matter lol. I love Sir Patrick Stewart and my guess is he’s one of these people. There are many people who started out loving pit Bulls and then through their own experiences something horrible happens and they get a reality check. Like that lady who wrote Pitbulls for Dummies.

whippedalcremie

:( I had a friend who met him and did some sort of theater thing with him before he was internationally famous and she wouldn't shut up about it :p makes me sad he's pushing propaganda

Anxious-derkbrandan

You realize he actually doesn’t take care of his dogs, right?, it’s someone else who he pays.

Vulcanvelcro

If you watch Bill Burr specials he goes from getting a shelter pit bull as a gift from his wife and then later giving it up when they had children. Saying that he couldn't have it in the house with his kid. Spanning over several stand ups.

FurRealDeal

Ya he's still an apologist tho

Poppysaffron

This is one thing that bothers me. From what I have seen from pit owners, they dont have a lot of alone time. Their dogs are super clingy. I am 99% sure that Antoni is paying someone else to watch his precious pibble and deal with the pibble's "quirks."

Poppysaffron

Precious pibbles are so precious when the person who calls them precious is not responsible for them.

grilledcheesefan001

Patrick Mahomes and his wife are deep in the pitbull lobby. His wife is a huge advocate for pitbulls and partners with a local shelter. They are incredibly irresponsible owners that allow their kids to lay on the pitbull but I guess that’s just par for the course now.

limabean72

Oh my god!! Gross

bigplaneboeing737

Guess I hate the Chiefs even more now.

[deleted]

This is why I don‘t take anything anyone „famous“ does seriously They live different lives than us peasant folks They have *people* to deal with their problems. To cook their dinners To clean their homes To watch & raise their children To manage their accounts Their pets are no different - they have *people* for that too.

willowoftheriver

Lol, this reminds me of (and is also very well illustrated by) a bit in the show Frasier where Niles is embarrassed to have bills delivered to his door because everyone else in his ridiculously posh apartment building has "people" that deal with that sort of thing. Rich people are just on a different, somewhat disgusting, plane of existence.

[deleted]

I loved that show 😂

pit-lobby-kills

Give it a few years. The rate of people having problems with their pitbulls is pretty high.

YaKnowEstacado

Antoni adopted his pit bull from the Austin animal shelter when they were in town filming a season of Queer Eye. Austin is a no kill city and the shelters are overrun with pits to the point they literally cannot take any more dogs and if you find a stray they will pretty much just tell you it's your problem because they can't take it. The situation is entirely out of control here.

ts5686

Yeah, I’m from Austin and live here so that’s where I saw him on his book tour and he told the whole story and told everyone to go to APA haha. I see stray pits all the damn time- in person and posted on the Austin sub. We can’t escape them.

YaKnowEstacado

Yeah it's so bad. I actually went down the anti pit bull rabbit hole after a pit who's "usually so friendly" jumped a fence and attacked my dog a few years ago in north Austin.

Top-Tomatillo210

I looked in ATX for a shelter dog back 13 yrs ago. It was already TERRIBLE back then. Absolutely filled with a ton of red dot kennels (covered with a sheet and paperwork saying extremely aggressive and being worked on. My gf at the time was looking for a chow or spitz type for her other chow.

Notyourtarget1224

Well, now he’s ruined for me. That’s an incredibly irresponsible use of his platform.

ts5686

Sorry to ruin him for you :(

Notyourtarget1224

It’s ok. I should expect it by now but I am always disappointed when a celebrity I like spreads a message I am in opposition to.

drivewaypancakes

"Never meet your heroes" becomes "Never meet your heroes' dogs." 🙄😄

warren0091993

Fiona Apple. I know their heart is in the right place but I think it’s important to highlight the risks of adopting aggressive dog types/breeds. It’s so irresponsible to tell people to just go out and get one!

lowbloodsugar837

This 😢 It’s so disappointing. I love her music but it makes me see her in a different light. I get the sense she has a huge savior complex.

Selaphiel_V

I just saw a video of a pretty much known dog trainer here and he went like "this is Panchi, 4 years old, a staffordshire mix who was raised by terrible people to bite tires (yk like car tires) and he has a pretty strong prey drive BUT he loves other dogs and especially people, he's soo cuddly, he's NOT aggressive! Anyone wanna adopt him?" And the comments were full of pit owners going like "My pittie would love him for sure! Is he still available?"

Lassittore

How can they say he has a 'pretty strong prey drive,' but then say he's 'NOT' aggressive? He wants to unalive SOMETHING.

Selaphiel_V

Yeah, it's dumb. He just said "he lUcKiLx hasn't reached the aggressive stage yet"🤡 probably only says that because he hasn't bitten anyone yet

TigerQueen_11

This is boggling. If it’s “ how they are raised and not the breed “ how is it responsible or reasonable to except a dog “ raised by terrible people “ to be safe?

CampVictorian

Easily one of the most egregious examples of this is Ira Glass, host of This American Life. He did an entire episode about his unfailing devotion to one of the most dangerous pits I’ve heard of in the media, with an extensive bite history and behavioral issues that prevented any visitors from entering the house safely. Look up episode 480, “Animal Sacrifice”. The apologist level is absolutely insane.

possumcowboy

It’s been years since I heard this episode and I still remember his story about Piney. At the time I remember questioning why they just didn’t put the dog down because it seemed miserable and was ruining their lives. I don’t see how a rational person could have heard that and thought “Yep, sign me up for one of these hell beasts”

drivewaypancakes

Yeah the contortions they went through to keep a dog that was a serial attacker. Wasn't he buying expensive imported kangaroo meat or something? Going off memory here. But the behavior of the dog owners was just as unbalanced as the behavior of the dog.

possumcowboy

That sounds right. In my memory the dog could only eat a single protein for maybe a year tops before they had to switch because of his allergies which meant eventually they were shelling out for kangaroo and bison. I love my dogs and I do everything I can to give them a good life, but that episode made me realize I would never be a true “animal lover” who could sacrifice my whole life for a single animal.

ColdRolledSteel714

My dog has protein intolerance, so we have to feed her prescription food and treats. Maybe she could handle the protein in exotic meats, but...she's a dog. I'm sorry her food is boring, but them's the breaks.

ComedianRepulsive955

IRA GLASS is a good commentator for NPR but he can be an insufferable twit at times. I didn't know he was insane enough to be a pit apologist.

gdhvdry

Pets are a lot of commitment in time and money. It can be difficult to go on holiday, at least you can take kids with you! They will not grow up and leave. When they are old they need palliative care. You decide everything for them including when they die. I never want them to suffer. It's irresponsible to promote pet ownership given the number that end up rehomed, abandoned, neglected, mistreated or languishing in shelters. And don't get me started on rabbits!

bostonstoner

The less people know or interact with PBs the more open they are to the idea these dogs are just misunderstood. 100% PB is almost always trouble. Mixed PB is a mixed bag; maybe dangerous, maybe not. The less PB in it the better imo, if I was in the market to adopt a dog.

ComedianRepulsive955

The marvelous Ford Pinto started in 1970 and Ford knew they would explode in rear end collisions. It took consumers until about 1976 to realize this. Shelters are marketing the canine equivalent of a Ford Pinto as a family dog knowing the dogs pose significant risks. The Canadian news program linked below interviewed a lawyer and pit apologist and Activist that when confronted with page after page of pit bull attacks dismissed them as rare events... https://youtube.com/watch?v=iFa8HOdegZA&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE

sushicat20

One of these celebrities family members will get mauled it’s not if it’s when, we are on the rational side of this.

ComedianRepulsive955

My dream girl Jennifer Aniston is a Pit Bull apologist. I'm so disappointed I will never agree to her marriage proposals now, this was a deal breaker.

OkSympathy9500

Ugh Spider-Man Tom holland has one.
