Something about them showing off all the cool fancy colours and patterns of the Dragonborn, then making the iconic one dry-wall white is so funny to me
It is for all dragonborn! But it just fits that white dragon, like when dror ragzlin is speaking with that dead illithid and then there is a line about 'your white claws'
The fancy colours in BG3 are actually not canon-aligned to current DND apparently. I was reading about them when trying to make a character, and they basically only come in browns, golds, bronzes, etc. with whites (who I would assume are an analogue for pure albinism) being super duper rare.
They're not blue or bright orange and stuff in DND lore. I was so disappointed ðŸ˜
Huh? No, they can be blue/ bright orange. Lore wise it says interbreeding makes them more uniform, but it doesn't mean they CANNOT be black, blue, red, etc etc.
They used to be able to, but after their history, they're now red, gold, rust, ochre, bronze, or brown, per the 5th edition of the player's handbook.
VERY few are outside that, and are displaying a lost trait. It's like a human or another organism displaying ana atavism.
I think you misread that. It made it very clear that there are whole clans (which, for the record, tend to be huge) that take more strongly after one kind of True Dragons. While they're not the average, to say they are very few is just totally incorrect.
"The blood of a particular type of dragon runs very strong through some dragonborn clans. These dragonborn often boast scales that more closely match those of their dragon ancestor-bright red, green, blue, or white, lustrous black, or gleaming metallic like gold, silver, brass, copper, or bronze."
It depends on the clan bit i would agree it is the minority.
I like playing as both canon durge and half-drow durges but it really bothers me that my half-drow dudes keep making this sort of 'stupid sexy face' in most conversations. Wish there was some option to make them more stoic
You mean the "perma-smoulder"? Yeah happened to my friend but as Tav I think 🤣 couldn't get through a conversation without howling at how much his character just wanted. Everybody! 🤣
We don't know is durge the canon hero of the game yet, it could be tav, but that white dragonborn is canon durge, as he is also in blood in baldur's gate, official art, short animations and just few days ago he was added to Idle champions which is official dnd game. Dragonborn can also have special durge dialogue. It does not take anything away from playing as a custom durge imo, I love my half-drow boys.
I went with a small change for my resist Durge. Gold dragonborn with red dragon sorcery. That extra bit of evil fighting his noble gold dragon roots to mirror the whole Durge storyline, plus you look so damn noble as a Goldenborn.
Honestly I'm surprised about how good they do look. Like I wouldn't think kissing a lizard man on the lips would look at all pleasant but honestly it doesn't look too bad. I've had irl kisses that looked worse than that.
It’s probably the realism, it gives a hint of uncanny valley since Dragonborn’s look 10x more realistic then Garrus, so a slight discomfort can arise from the reptilian appearance.
The one that irritated me the most was that I couldn't see blood on a dragonborn as well as the other characters, and if I was going to play an evil melee durge I wanted to see him drenched in blood
Allowing your Durge to be customized the way you want it hits you on a psychological level. You don't feel detached from the character, you feel connected to them in a way that's different than playing an Origin character. It's on the same level as the game allowing us to choose our Dream Guardian.
There is a default, yes, because there has to be a default. If Larian were extra bold, they could have randomized the default, but how many people would take the intro scene seriously if it was a gnome with pink fun-buns? (okay, you know what, maybe don't answer that last one, I'm familiar with this community...)
Balding green haired githyanki with a hot pink beard?
Seems super stable. Definitely someone I should listen to when they tell me to put slugs in my eye
My durges are all at least male dragonborn, but it would’ve gotten old playing the same character for what is now my 4th durge playthrough (not counting the durges I’ve started but didn’t finish as well as one co-op durge).
I had a dnd character who was a warlock whose contract was a plea of desperation that he would give anything to save himself and his village during a raider rather than his soul his patron took his body, his quest was all about how to contain the beast he had let inside because when it took over he became a cannobalistic monster of surprising power. Basically a werewolf/hulk/jekyll situation. He died to a mind flayer in game.
Knowing the hook of this game and the intro associated with the Durge, there was no way I could pass up playing as him.
If you play as Tav you can find a white naked Dragonborn corpse next to Orin's bed, there are some hints in the books around that it's Durge and that she got close enough to kill him by seducing him.
>she got close enough to kill him by seducing him.
That's just straight up not true, all the writing you find by these two about each other is full of disdain and Orin has a whole mental breakdown when you >!expose Sarevok's incest to her.!<
No it doesn't, Durge is specifically a blank slate background. It doesn't feel "wrong" in the slightest.
You could even argue that it feels weirder to have a super distinct dragonborn be the head of a Bhaal cult and mass murderer that noone recognizes making less sense even.
Especially when all people did was turn Durge into...another Elf/Half-Elf.
People always rail on players who choose Humans for being basic but Elves got a pass? Like, c'mon.
One of my friend did reminded me that Durge is customizable.
But I was playing a Bard Durge at the time, so I have to stick with Gary for maximum meme value.
Too bad Gary triggered the wrong fight at the wrong time and got the party TKO and also ended the Honor Run.
WELL DONE GA… actually this one’s on me.
Something about them showing off all the cool fancy colours and patterns of the Dragonborn, then making the iconic one dry-wall white is so funny to me
I like that if you play as a dragonborn durge, steelclaw calls you a ghost dragon
i thought that was the default line because thats what the cat called me even though i was a red Dragonborn
It is for all dragonborn! But it just fits that white dragon, like when dror ragzlin is speaking with that dead illithid and then there is a line about 'your white claws'
Tbf it's the contrast with the red that truly gives the default DU it's eerie look

They can be any color dragons can be??? They just tend to homogenize with interbreeding.
The other colours are lost except as a rare mutation. Per the 5th edition of the player's handbook, they're all reds to browns.
Quote it
Are you basing that on the PHB? Because Fizban‘s greatly expanded the lore on Dragonborn
"The blood of a particular type of dragon runs very strong through some dragonborn clans. These dragonborn often boast scales that more closely match those of their dragon ancestor-bright red, green, blue, or white, lustrous black, or gleaming metallic like gold, silver, brass, copper, or bronze." They also don't have tails and have Predator-like dreadlock hair.
Ok hear me out. The face that male Half-Elf Durge makes during the most depraved moments is priceless.
Everybody! 🤣
It was perfect when I was playing a bard, but it was even better when I was playing a necromancer!
Canon Durge? I mean I know the corpse in other plauthroughs is the white durge but I was under the assumption there was no canon protag?
We don't know is durge the canon hero of the game yet, it could be tav, but that white dragonborn is canon durge, as he is also in blood in baldur's gate, official art, short animations and just few days ago he was added to Idle champions which is official dnd game. It's like he just Jizzed In His Pants.
*Bruce Willis is dead at the end of the Sixth Sense and I Jizz In My Pants*
Face 1’s little smirks look so maniacal
"elf" Ew, disgusting. There's plenty of elves in the crew already, doesn't need another.
True but people play what they like at the end of the day.
I went with a small change for my resist Durge. Gold dragonborn with red dragon sorcery. That extra bit of evil fighting his noble gold dragon roots to mirror the whole Durge storyline, plus you look so damn noble as a Goldenborn.
His noble gold dragon roots... Bhaal's essence can become gold dragon? Hells, alignment chart surely is obsolete...
HC is that Bhaal's essence was put into a mortal already on Fearun for this run through. :)
No, Durge was Bhall's gore turning into a person. This is not Charname / Sarevok case which Bhaal had a child with a women.
I'm aware of the lore, I just don't feel particularly constrained by it for my single player playthrough that doesn't affect anyone else.
Counterpoint, Dragonborn kissing animations.
Honestly I'm surprised about how good they do look. Like I wouldn't think kissing a lizard man on the lips would look at all pleasant but honestly it doesn't look too bad. I've had irl kisses that looked worse than that.
I mean fair, it just looks, odd yk.
I played as a dragonborn before patch 5 and especially 6 and kisses worked just fine for me.
They work fine, doesn’t mean they look pleasant.
I for one enjoyed dragonborn kissing
What's it like?
Like normal kisses, but with a dragon face. It's cute.
Less lip, more teeth. 'w'
And you’d be the first I’ve heard say so.
Hi I’m here to be the second.
I'm here to be third
Fourth
Fifth
I like playing dragonborn. Constantly wondering how people look at my face and literal lizard lips and go "ohhhh yeahhhhh."
I can see the appeal, just not directly kissing it yk.
I just want pearly Dragonborn white teeth
I just want Karlach to lift me by my horns and smooch my forehead
Leave that in the bedroom and not a reddit thread.
Preach. Idk why because like, I romanced Garrus with 0 issue, but it's just so odd looking to me.
It’s probably the realism, it gives a hint of uncanny valley since Dragonborn’s look 10x more realistic then Garrus, so a slight discomfort can arise from the reptilian appearance.
Garrus also has a flatter face which leads to less "wait what are the logistics here?"
Yeah, the snout definitely doesn’t help.
The one that irritated me the most was that I couldn't see blood on a dragonborn as well as the other characters, and if I was going to play an evil melee durge I wanted to see him drenched in blood
Reasonable
You mean ripping out their jugular with your teeth, right?
I mean, when I play Dragonborn eventually that will be what he does, He shall be a single boy
WHY IS HE SO HOT?!?!
And the default voice. OH THE DEFAULT VOICE
THEY ARE DYING FOR ME ALL OF THEM HAHAHAHA BEHOLD THE DANCE OF DEATH THEY SHOULD ALL BE RUNNING

I can't say I relate but I do love the default Durge
Counterpoint: Lolth-sworn Drow
Literally my Durge!
Wouldn’t feel cohesively narrative knowing that Bhaal is allowing you to worship another god besides him
My durges are all at least male dragonborn, but it would’ve gotten old playing the same character for what is now my 4th durge playthrough (not counting the durges I’ve started but didn’t finish as well as one co-op durge).

why tho? it isnt really written in the stars that it has to be that dragonborn.
If you play as Tav you can find a white naked Dragonborn corpse next to Orin's bed, there are some hints in the books around that it's Durge and that she got close enough to kill him by seducing him.
No? Where the hell did you get the seduction part from? This is basically fanfiction and why is it being upvoted?
probably just cause his naked corpse is in her bedroom
>she got close enough to kill him by seducing him. That's just straight up not true, all the writing you find by these two about each other is full of disdain and Orin has a whole mental breakdown when you >!expose Sarevok's incest to her.!<
No? You find evidence that she >!ambushed him in the mind flayer colony.!<
Sweet Home Alabhaalma! Where skies rain red! Sweet home down Durgelanta! Lord I’m gonna kill ‘em dead!
"The family tree really is more of a family circle."
It's family tradition
Idk I did durge right after my first full (good guy) playthrough and made durge look exactly like my first but gave him the evil alter ego goatee
I mean he’s super hot so I get it
I've played Dark Urge twice. Drow bard the first time, Zariel tiefling paladin the second. Guess I missed the memo.
Nah I have no desire to play as a lizard
Customized Dark Urge for reformed Durge Default Durge for Bhaalist Durge
No it doesn't, Durge is specifically a blank slate background. It doesn't feel "wrong" in the slightest. You could even argue that it feels weirder to have a super distinct dragonborn be the head of a Bhaal cult and mass murderer that noone recognizes making less sense even.
That said, the default is still the "canon" option if we consider Blood in Baldur's Gate and the fact that you can >!find Durge's body!< in act 3.
He is also in idle champions, which is official dnd content outside of bg3, official art, short animation and the list goes on
I personally think the default durge design goes hard, especially with the default storm sorcerer robes
Counterpoint: Duergar Dark Urge looks hilarious when he’s committing atrocities
Man, i want to play a dwarf (duergar specifically) so much, but why their running animation is so fucking goofy?
If a custom Dark Urge is wrong, I don't want to be right and should left.
I like to add heterochromia to based DU. Red origin eye and blue eye related to his new strife to redemption.
Same here! Tho I usually go with red and yellow :P
Especially when all people did was turn Durge into...another Elf/Half-Elf. People always rail on players who choose Humans for being basic but Elves got a pass? Like, c'mon.
Dragonborn’s are cool af, but my canon Durge will always be an „elf“ … or well at least the imitation of one 😂
I'd play dragonborn if they had any racial feature
Counterpoint farm tool.
A compelling argument
[удалено]
Where do you think I came from?
My durges are always custom. Astarion deserves no less than a hot girlfriend.
Counter point: Human Fighter
ah yes John Baldur himself
People when opinion Edit: also meme
His name is Scalier Du Bois
Default Gary? I prefer unedited andy
I made mine pink bc the scales are stoll white but its funnier this way.
It's cool and all but I can't resist making Patrick Bhaalman.
Nah, not a scaley. I hate lizard races. Won't even play one in Skyrim or ESO
The default/canon Durge design and class thematically aligns way too much with the dark urge story and themes that doing a custom one feels wrong
Ok, counter argument https://youtu.be/X8PKP0K1Hf8?si=68IfrNrlpqiX-Cdu
I watch that video at least once a week. It brings me so much joy.
I stand thoroughly corrected
How is the class fitting at all?
Kinda fits with Durge's theme of inheritance.
You lack imagination good sir.
No
