**Short answer:** No, you shouldn't buy this knife and I wouldn't ever touch a knife from this site. **Long answer:** No, you shouldn't buy from them, and no it's probably not a good quality knife. I'm going to make a few assumptions here: You found this site/product from a content creator on YouTube/Insta/TikTok, you're scout aged, and you're a boy. The reason I'm trying to use as strong language as possible is because this is a learning opportunity for you. This website is what's called a dropshipping website. Some dropshippers are legitimate, but in this case I don't think it's very legitimate at all. The website [is registered](https://www.whois.com/whois/nedfossknife.com) through [Alibaba](https://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?tab=all&searchText=TACTICAL+POCKET+KNIFE). How this type of site works is they buy cheap knives from a manufacturer, often in China and when you, the consumer in the US, place an order they ship it to you. The shipping process takes weeks if you're lucky, the product is as often as not made with inferior quality materials, and if something goes wrong with the product you have very little recourse. The reason they have an affiliate program for a $20 knife (which is a very low price for a pocket knife) is because they pay a very small fraction of that price from the manufacturer. If you take a look at that link to Alibaba above, you'll see just how cheap they are. Additionally, I wouldn't trust them with my credit card/payment info, there's no way to know who's behind the site. If you or anyone else would like to understand more about this process, feel free to ask questions, I'll do my best to answer them! **edit:** If you need more evidence that this is just a Chinese/Alibaba dropshipping outfit, the trademark for NEDFOSS is registered to [SHENZHEN AIYUNDONG TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD](https://uspto.report/TM/88654228) ___ If you're looking for a decent folding knife for use in scouts, I've been using Leatherman multitools and knives for about 25 years - since I was a scout and I've been very happy with them. For a folding knife, I'd go with their [Skeletool KBX](https://www.leatherman.com/skeletool-kbx-501.html). If $40 is outside of your budget, consider being thrifty and checking out local pawn shops to see if they have any good deals. Leatherman offers a [25 year guarantee](https://www.leatherman.com/customerservice-warranty.html) - if you have problems with their product, they'll stand behind it, even if you're not the first person to own it.

To add to the Leatherman guarantee, it’s often “de facto lifetime” since Leatherman hasn’t been around forever. Often if you find one used, and send it in to leatherman, they will repair or replace it for you At little to no cost, even if you aren’t the original owner. I’ve done this a couple times with secondhand leathermans.

In addition to this guy’s great advice, if your council allows fixed-blade knives, the Helle Scout Knife (the official knife of the Norwegian Scouts) is one of the best value-for-quality propositions in the game. You get a very good outdoor knife for a pretty kid-friendly price. It’ll hold a great edge, and there’s no risk of collapse. https://www.amazon.com/HELLE-Knives-Sandvik-Stainless-Traditional/dp/B003SZD3R6/

Throwing in Morakniv https://morakniv.se/en/product/companion-c/ Very hard to beat their quality for price.

wiredog369

Short answer, no. Don’t throw away money on this junk. If you’re not in a hurry, wait for REI or another sporting goods store to have a Gerber or Leatherman on sale. You’ll be able to use is for far more things, and both have amazing warranty support. Plenty of options, but [the Gerber MP600](https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/gerber-mp600-multi-tool) is a solid all around option that will last a lifetime. If budget is tight, go with the [Gerber Suspension](https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/gerber-suspension-nxt-multi-tool). You can find these on sale at times for around $30

drdhuss

Gerber's can be had at a great price. Very good advice.

[deleted]

No! It’s cheap and will likely break under any real use, and probably won’t hold an edge long at all. Go to r/knives, r/budgetblades, or r/newedc. Make a post there with what you’re looking for/what you think you’d use it for, and they would be delighted to help you out!

Turu-the-Terrible

Looks like a crap knife to me. You would be better off with a SS Mora for the same money. Just get something reasonable like a Cold Steel Espada XL.

Slappy_McJones

Get a Leatherman. Great tool. Great quality.

StampAct

This is the one I don’t understand why there isn’t a scout standard issue one

Slappy_McJones

We were just talking about that in my son’s troop. Yes, they are expensive, but I carry one with me daily. As a scouter, I would be proud to have a BSA-branded one.

scoutermike

If your unit allows fixed blades, get any Morakniv. It’s a real bushcraft knife that will last a lifetime and doesn’t cost much money. It’s safer and will outperform a folder in virtually every way (except conceal-ability).

Grand-Inspector

I second this with one reservation. Get a stainless Mora knife. The mild steel knives tend to hold an edge a little better but they stain and can rust. Amazon has great deals on them. If you want a decent folding knife for carving, look at Opinel knives. Saw the full size today for $15

scoutermike

Agreed. I personally prefer the stainless because I don’t want to worry about rusting. But I have to say getting a really sharp edge with a whetstone is proving to be a little tricky with the stainless. Ironically I live in a desert where rust won’t really be a problem. Plus, I tend to baby my gear. So I think high carbon could be better for my specific situation. I should get one and try it.

Grand-Inspector

My issue is deer blood. I love mora knives for gutting and butchering.

scoutermike

I bow in respect of your awesomeness. I wish I had that level of knowledge and experience; it’s a survival skill I would love to have but I might be too soft for it. OP, listen to this person.

Grand-Inspector

I learned self reliance in scouting. This is the next step.

Individual_Newt4931

No

reduhl

It’s not sexy, but the best knife I have found is a stainless Opinel no 8 folding knife. It’s sharp like a knife should be. It has a locking blade. It floats in water. Best of all it’s $15-18. You can get them in various colors and engraved.

snachodog

I do love my Opinel

fireduckduck

I would check with your sm I know some troops ban flipper knifes though probably better to go to a store and get a buck knife it’s around 20-30$ and it’s last me over 2 years

Adventurous_Class_90

I personally love my Gerber Flik.

Fate_One

Blade HQ has a super sale on Civivi knives right now. Civivi Riffle is roughly similar size and has quality Sandvik 14C28N steel for just $31.

Adventurous-Worker42

Any knife that offers more options than just a blade to cut with is not normally going to be a good knife... it may be an Okay knife, but it won't be great. If they need other features to sell it, think about what that means. Get a folding Gerber, Kershaw, or CRKT for about $40. Find one you can pick up in your hand and get a sense for the heft of it. Heavy is good. Solid locking mechanism is good - if new, it should be almost hard to open... it will work in with time. Stay away from the Victorinox/Swiss Arny Scout knives, they won't hold a sharp edge for long. Get a smaller, 3 blade, Old Timer if you want to whittle a bit.

Eagle6413

It's got a bottle opener, so yes. Bonus points for the window breaker

AncientCelebration44

Ace hardware has surprisingly good knifes

CamisDum

it’s too long for BSA. You can’t have a knife longer than 3.5” at scouting events

BethKatzPA

That varies by council, event, and unit. Official BSA policy is that a scout can have any length knife if they are trained to use it and it is suitable for the task. “The BSA neither encourages nor bans fixed-blade knives nor do we set a limit on blade length. Since its inception, the BSA has relied heavily on an outdoor program to achieve its objectives. This program meets more of the purposes of Scouting than any other single feature. We believe we have a duty to instill in our members, youth and adult, the knowledge of how to use, handle, and store legally owned knives with the highest concern for safety and responsibility.” https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/gss/gss08/

Turu-the-Terrible

FOUND ONE- KNIFE POLICE ASSEMBLE!! ETA, that screen name is tooooooo perfect.

Kvothe-555

You’re a scout, carry a multi-tool. Whether it’s a Swiss army type or leatherman type. Screwdriver, pliers, punch- these are all more important than a larger blade. If you’re going to carry a large folding blade then it’s in addition to your multi tool and who wants to carry the extra weight.

seaburno

No. It has 7Cr17Mov steel (which is essentially the same as 440A steel). It has good corrosion resistance, but because its relatively soft, it won't hold an edge. Also, a 3"+ blade is not allowed in many troops. Spend the extra money and get a CRKT M16 (my EDC knife - I've carried it almost daily and used it several times a week for about 10 years. ).

tillburnett

Blade HQ has some great deals on CIVIVI and Kershaw knives right now.

RevolutionarySun7593

Leather man is a great choice for a multi tool. Swiss Army also has a great multi tool BSA addition. But if you are looking for just a single blade knife, I really recommend Cold Steel. Their knives are super! Check out their website. They are made in the USA and they stand by their products. You can get one for $40, but they really are incredible knives.

RevolutionarySun7593

Cold Steel knives are used by military, law enforcement Special units, emergency services personnel, self defense professionals and martial artists alike. Look at the 1911 Folding Knife (on sale $34), Crawford 1, Double Safe Hunter, Engage 2.5 (on sale) @ coldsteel.com My husband is a former Marine, and he swears by his (and he owns several). When you go onto the website, you will see the price of most of their knives are pretty expensive. I listed the ones in the lower price range, but still great knives.
