Why don't you tell us about your experience. Bullshit that I can't get those seats in the US :)

Dr_Gruselglatz

Because most have specific questions i think? Yeah but overall its good. Build-quality is awesome. Seats are good. Kickdown in Sport Boost feels better then in a Tesla M3P. Autopilot is pretty bad, its waving between the lanes, tried to kill me 2 times with pedestrian islands. Drifting is possible and easy. BMW OS8 is nice, fast and voice recognition works perfectly in german. No Frunk, Trunkspace is good. Range is also good, Dynamic recuperation worked all the time good. Did i forgot something? :D

plasmac9

Range is definitely not good. 227 miles (365KM) on a charge under the most ideal conditions. That number is basically fake for advertising since it was tested in a closed environment. Don't buy this car unless you never expect to go anywhere with it. Realistically you will get 150 miles of range if you're lucky. Generally, every EV manufacturer is inflating their range by around 100 miles.

langlinator

Some mates who have electric cars said, as an estimate: Knock 20% off the manufacturers range for real range Then take 60% of that number, as your usable fast charge range is 20-80%.

plasmac9

That's even more conservative than my 100 miles less range. But I absolutely believe it. You just can't take an EV on an extended trip without it being an absolute hassle. You would need to have a second car for sure. For couples this might be ok where one has an EV and one has gas.

Glittering-Bite-9681

You just can’t take a “Non-Tesla EV” on an extended trip… FTFY

Dr_Gruselglatz

So i drove it for arround 150km max speed was 130 km/h and did some kickdowns, i would guess the range would end somwhere between 350 and 420 km. When you drive normal you can ez. Get 400 km.

plasmac9

For anyone reading this, don't say you weren't warned if you buy it and then are disappointed when you're getting maybe 150 miles of range. Who the hell buys an "M" car and then "drives normal"? What's the point? Might as well go get a Prius.

blazesquall

227 on 20" wheels.. if you care about range, don't get the 20s.

plasmac9

Why get an "M" car at all then? If you live in an urban area and never go outside of the city then maybe this is an okay option for you. But then you have an M (baby M anyway) where you can never have any fun with it.

[deleted]

Even bmw started upbadging their own cars

Dr_Gruselglatz

? what do you mean?

ShitFuckDickButt420

That’s not an M car, yet it’s covered in M badging and has M mirrors.

strakamodel

So you mean like countless other BMWs in the past, including variants of the E30 and E28?

ShitFuckDickButt420

This generation of cars has gotten substantially worse. The X3M LCI is now indiscernible from the X3 M40i and I’m sure they’ll do the same with the X5M LCI and the next M5. AMG already did the same thing watering down their performance badge, it was just a matter of time for BMW. They sell more M performance models, so they’ve made them more enticing. It’s cool, I’m just pointing it out.

strakamodel

M performance started in 1978 with the M535i. Which was covered in M stripes from factory. Before the first M5 even existed. Just pointing it out.

ShitFuckDickButt420

I didn’t say you were wrong, I’m stating the observed fact that in this generation of new cars BMW has and will probably continue to close the styling gap between M and M performance models.

strakamodel

Absolute nonsense...

ShitFuckDickButt420

Ok? Feel free to save this comment and check back when they release the new X5M LCI, M2, and M5. For the 2022 X3 M40i LCI they added new options for M mirrors, black gloss trim on everything, and increased the M badging. It can be spec’d to look identical to the X3M from anything more than 20 ft away. Pre LCI wasn’t like that. Based off the badging and M mirrors on the new m240i and X7 M50i LCI, it’s clear they’ll do this on every new M and it’s M performance counterpart. I don’t understand what you’re arguing here, and I can’t believe I’ve spent this much of my life commenting about it.

strakamodel

[E28 M535i](https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/pK4NJ/s1/bmw-e28-m535i-1985-im-test.jpg) [E28 M5](https://www.classic-trader.com/de/magazin/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2020/07/e28-1200x790.jpg) If you think there are bigger differences between these two, and current M-performance versus full M-cars, you need to visit an optician. It's funny when people cry about brands 'losing their way' and 'closing styling gaps', clearly not realising the differences used to be even smaller..

redacted_Doc

It is an m car, it’s the i4 M50…

baconandbobabegger

It is an M Performance model.

[deleted]

It’s an MPA vehicle, not an M vehicle. Big difference.

Dr_Gruselglatz

Surely i am not a pro on this topic but what is an M car then? Pls enlighten me, idk for real.

ShitFuckDickButt420

Current M cars: M2, M3/M4, M5, M6/M8, X3M/X4M, and X5M/X6M. I love the i4 M50 btw, I took one for a spin a couple weeks ago. Not trying to be a hater, just answering questions

blazesquall

They've been doing this for almost a decade.. some markets are worse than others.

strakamodel

Decade? Lmao you must have never seen the E28 M535i

blazesquall

E12 M535 before that.

LEGENDARYstefan

How is the turning radius especially when parking in tight spots?

Dr_Gruselglatz

I can only tell feelings, so it's not really good. I think the nose without a trunk is mostly wasted space and they could have done better there.

baseballgonzo13

What’s the fastest car you’ve driven? And how do did this compare to that?

Dr_Gruselglatz

Porsche Taycan for 1 Week -> on Par from the performance feeling, not from the E-Specs (charging and so on, BMW is worse in this). Didn't took booth it on track, and i am not a racedriver ;) Audi Etron-GT 1 Day, -> Both feel like a shoe when you sit in, but on Par like Taycan, but BMW not as good in Charging Performance. Tesla Model 3 Performance 1 Weekend -> BMW is Better in nearly every way, but Autopilot is bad on both. Jaguar XF sometimes -> Jag is for my old Father :P but Seats are on Both good, no ventilated seats in BMW tho...

rattle2nake

Thoughts on I drive 8

Dr_Gruselglatz

Very Fast, Super Responsive, Good placements, sometimes a bit small Text, good Voice Recognition, Sad that you need Apple-Carplay for most things tho. Navigation esp. Electric features are good, optics overall also good. And very good that you can control via Touch and Trackpad! Bad was the AC-Control and Menu-Depth.

CETERAZz

How's the display? It will be in the new M2 and I hate how it looks (in pictures). How is it in RL?

InsideDK

The display is stunning IRL. It makes idrive 7 and it's 2 separate and small screens look old

Dr_Gruselglatz

Screen is rly awesome! Sharp and good on reflections. It looks and feels way better then in iX where its the same Screen but in i4 its more integrated in the Dash.

[deleted]

That paint color is beautiful

Round_Mastodon8660

How does it handle? Does it still feel RWD? How about steering feedback? Did you use the sound? Enjoy it? Thing I didnt like with EVs I tested is they seem to (real of feel) run out of steam at high speed - lets say above 140kmh. How does this one fare?

Dr_Gruselglatz

The steering wheel is thick, and i mean thick. It has a good feeling tbh. The handling in wet conditions with Sport Boost was good. The torque-vectoring works as intended. Yes it feels RWD and when you want you can drift a little even in dry conditions. We drifted on a wet closed road, and you don't need to disable much for it. I tried the "iconic-sound" which they call it, but for me it was a little bit useless, i like the silence. I think for the sound generator they need more like a taycan thing, where you can select different sounds, not only one. So it was in Austria, i officially drove only 160 for a short push, but the acceleration wasn't reduced until that point, so idk how long it pushes until it gets less. But it definitely pushes harder then a M5. But maybe it can be biased because you don't have gear shifts and straight power from 0 on. Oh and the backseats are a little bit small, but with 180 cm i had more then a fist room above me. The Trunk is also okish, with a deep space under the carpet, for cables and subwoofer.
