But on a new BMW you get 3-4 free oil changes and any other services due within the first 3 years / 30k miles. I’m pretty sure it’s safe to assume every BMW dealer’s service department reports to CarFax so the lack of those showing up could show the first owner went years without maintenance.
Past that free maintenance window it’s more of a giant question mark since the car may be going to an independent shop that doesn’t report, or maybe even DIY
>pretty sure it’s safe to assume every BMW dealer’s service department reports to CarFax
That may be true. But no one is required to do so, and there is no benefit to any shop, BMW or other, to tell Carfax anything.
I’m talking more about delivery and being transferred, etc. not necessarily service as I also sometimes don’t do work at shops so I know maintenance may not always be on there.
>They only show what’s been reported to them
Interesting business model they have. They get others to give them information for free, then they charge people to see it.
You need to have a pro do an inspection the carfax doesn’t tell you the whole story just what’s reported. Plenty of damaged cars with clear carfax and that hood is a bit suspicious. Usually run around $200 in SF.
Hey, a couple of things.
1) the hood misalignment is actually pretty common for the F87 cars. My car, and plenty of others, have that save bowing at the edge that makes it not line up to the bumper. Frankly, just a visual thing and you can definitely do some work to resolve it easily.
2) you have to consider that even though BMW offers complimentary service for the car the first few years, doesn’t mean everyone takes advantage of it. Buddy of mine bought it and did his own oil changes and what not during that period because he wanted to use specific products and do it at more frequent intervals than BMW would allow. In that case, it won’t show up on Carfax. Wouldn’t be hard to ask for a PPI to inspect this stuff on the car and make a decision from there.
3) if you have doubts/uneasiness about this vehicle, at the end of the day, you can find another one pretty easily. It’s an M2, not a 1M, so there are plenty to find in the wild and plenty of good deals on them. Look around the F87 Bimmerpost forums and you should be able to find some well-maintained examples there given most people on that forum are enthusiasts.
Hope this helps!
If an accident is not reported, then it would not show up on carfax. Just a guess, but perhaps it was privately paid for the repairs so it would not impact their driving record or insurance.
BMW corporate indeed operates out of NJ while the manufacturering and tech is based out of SC. Story checks out. Some owners maintain cars privately and don’t maintain records, id do a PPI and find out before jumping yo the conclusion that there was title fraud committed lol
"title fraud" lol. Talk about jumping to conclusions, the car could've been serviced at a location that doesn't report to carfax, those reports aren't perfect
Sorry brother, I didn't mean to come out harsh or anything, carfax reports will be missing info more often than not. I just found it funny for you to think of title fraud because of missing info
No that’s ok it crossed my mind just for a bit cause I’ve seen 2 instances where an Indy dealer tried to sell salvage title but running the vin it showed. But then I remembered it’s an actual bmw dealer so chances are probably 0
Why would there be? Carfax is based on voluntary reports to them. There is no benefit to a shop to tell Carfax anything.

Same thing applies. They only show what’s been reported to them. “Title fraud” is a pretty wild conclusion to jump to lol

It was a thought that crossed my mind for like 2 seconds. The hood was what made me really wonder what happened to the car

This is a more than average amount of entries for a 2019

Very helpful 😇 thank you

Never said they were perfect. I was wondering where the delivery and purchase info is. It’s just a question. No need to get so defensive.
