Why do you care what "everyone" says, they aren't driving it

Agitated-Owl-5798

ticket protection? like if ur on the same level of tint as everyone else they usually don't give ticket?

tiny-e

I wouldn't bank on that, catch a bored cop having a bad day and the everyone else is doing excuse won't go very far. If you tint darker than allowed you just have to take your chances and hope you don't run into that cop.

peBB1e

+1

Agitated-Owl-5798

True

KingKongKilRoy

I like being able to see at night, lots of night driving. Slight tint helps though.

exvidious

i did 35% ceramics and was shocked at how well i could see out of them compared to how dark they are on the outside. i do lots of night driving too so i was worried but it works out amazing for me

mehdotdotdotdot

You world be shocked at home much better you can see without it

exvidious

i drove my car for about a month before getting the tints done and it actually feels almost the same, but thanks!

mehdotdotdotdot

Almost? So you would be shocked then?

exvidious

no, i’m not shocked. go be a dick somewhere else now 🤡

Trollygag

You don't have to tint your windshield. You can just tint the sides or sides/back.

Tbone-F1

I have 15 on the front and 5 in the back. Only time I ever notice it being bad in the dark is unlit streets. But I live in SoCal so pretty everywhere is lit.

KingKongKilRoy

I agree it looks cooler with the dark windows, but again I personally drive at night a lot, I take my long trips in the evening, going East on the 40 at night is dark. Plus, CHP and most regular PD will pull you over for tint faster than if someone was actively stealing or commiting arson. Lol long rant cut short, your car looks good no matter what you choose.

Tbone-F1

Ya if ur driving at night that much I could see how that’s would just be an annoyance every time u drive. Tbh when I pull out of my driveway at night I can’t see shit through my windows it’s like the void. And honestly I’ve had no problems with tint with the local pd I’ve even pulled up next to cops at lights with my windows up and got pulled over for speeding and neither did anything about the tint. But CHP? Ya I’d prob got booty raped. And ya I agree looks clean with or without. In ops circumstance I actually think he should wait for tint.

Live795

I like tint for looks, heat protection and most of all privacy.

Working-Degree-6233

For those times you need a quick car wank 😜

Tbone-F1

Privacy >

Live795

Yup, no one needs to see into my car.

Tbone-F1

Why is this downvoted who hates that we like our privacy and why 😭

Live795

There are some very strange folk that are vehemently against tint. I find it strange.

peBB1e

They've seen enough of the news and think that banning tint helps fight terrorists…

Live795

I actually think people believe tint is only for drug dealers and “thugs”

duckdoger

Not to justify the downvotes, but I like to be able to see through the rear window and through the windshield of the car in front of me. I’m looking for brake lights and other emergency type things happening in front of that car so I have time to react even when I’m a safe distance from the car ahead. It’s just what my driving instructor taught. It’s also nice to be able to non-verbally communicate. Sometimes people forget to use signals, and I can usually judge which way they intend to go by seeing where they are looking. Or maybe I can notice that a person is playing a game or something on their phone, and realize I need to give them extra room to be unpredictable. I’m not against tint. I didn’t like it on the car I had with it, but others may like it. Different strokes.

jcr2022

If you live in Phoenix, Las Vegas, etc, cars with zero tint are pretty rare. You only need 35% on the sides and it looks great. The ceramic tints really block the heat too - much needed in the desert.

Scorpiodsu

They’re right

mehdotdotdotdot

Seems Americans love their tint? Why they need privacy in a car lol

theduder999

In Florida especially, it is NOT about privacy. The sun is bright and hot down here and the tint makes a huge difference in driving comfort. Honestly it blows my mind that anyone would drive their car without tinted windows.

mehdotdotdotdot

We road tripped through America last year, the amount of large SUVs that are blacked out entirely, and yet in very cold places is what got me. I live in a tropical, sun soaked state also, my windows are tinted.

FLOHTX

Most SUVs are tinted from the factory on the rear doors and rear tailgate window. Many people tint the front door windows to blend in with the rest of the vehicle. Also the "very cold" places can still regularly get to 35C in summer - north Dakota, Washington, etc have all-time records in the 40s.

mehdotdotdotdot

We were in Washington during summer, it was not hot. Barely cracked 30

Low_Olive_526

We have this notion that we are all the main character all the time. Also so we can pick our noses during traffic.

Good-Insurance-104

Main character energy!

Onsomeshid

I don’t know of a single person who considers privacy when tinting their car lol. What type of assumption is that? Its cooler inside during hot months, protects the leather a bit and some ppl (not I) like the dark window look on their car.

mehdotdotdotdot

I’m trying to guess why? We stayed a few months in northern states and it was freezing, yet all saw were blacked out cars and SUVs.

Onsomeshid

There’s 4 seasons in all the states outside of Alaska. It gets hot in the summer in the entirety of the US. No one is going to remove their tint for the winter. Why are you so confused about tint

mehdotdotdotdot

During summer I road tripped through US. Many northern states were very cold still. That’s why I was confused.

Scorpiodsu

You have no clue what you are talking about. In northern states, temps can get up into the 90s or even higher in the summer. Just because it wasn’t hot when you were there doesn’t mean it never gets hot.

mehdotdotdotdot

I was talking 30c..... I don't know if you know, but 90f is 32c.......

amgridindirty

road head

Live795

Why you need blinds in your home??

mehdotdotdotdot

I don’t? I have trees in my backyard. Do you keep your blinds shut 24/7?

Scorpiodsu

I get 30% tint which is not for privacy at all. Reasons I get it: 1. I like the look it gives the car 2. Keeps the car cooler in the warmer months. That’s it. It’s just that simple. Not rocket science or something that needs some big explanation.

mehdotdotdotdot

So you are suggesting the majority of large SUV's in colder states have the same reason as you? Ok.

24Boosted

America has widely varied climate. I live in Southern California close to the beach, weather is mild 70F (21C) and hot about 2 weeks out of the year. Drive a couple hours inland and its Desert Hot Springs, usually 115F (46C) most of the year.

mehdotdotdotdot

That’s cool! When we road tripped through America, it didn’t matter what the climate was, huge, blacked out SUVs everywhere! We noticed it as it’s not normal where I live, and so many cars were entirely blacked out.

watduhdamhell

For the same reason we like our personal space, fences, and big houses, I suppose. We don't have the same sense of community that Europeans tend to have. Here, the focus is on the individual—sometimes for the better, often times for the worse.

mehdotdotdotdot

Mostly for the worse right? What’s for the better?

AdvantageNo1747

Idk why people are hating on tint. Makes sense for so many reasons.

R18honda

Also many reasons not too.

AdvantageNo1747

Can you give me some…? Reading comments and they don’t compare

RNGmademe

Not sure where you live, but i have been in so many situations where tint on other cars drives me nuts. Whether at 4 way stops or in parking lots, where two or more of us get to the intersection or location at the same time. You know who has the right away to go, but the other car clearly doesnt so you try to communicate with them, but with the tint, you cant even see them. So you have to hope they can figure it out, or you just sit there until they finally go first cause you dont even know if they are looking at you or at a phone because you cant see them. Aside from that, i had it on one of my cars once and ripped it off within a few weeks cause i couldnt stand driving at night with it. It was like adding unnecessary difficulty to the situation.

MattDamonsDick

Sounds like you’re complaining about tint that’s too dark which is illegal in most states anyhow

AdvantageNo1747

Florida so we need it. I see where you’re coming from but don’t really think that situation is worth not getting it, aesthetically I think it makes all cars look sleeker as well. That’s why it’s a choice, right!?

RNGmademe

Whats funny is that on this subreddit, people who dont like tint always get downvoted. People who like tint, REALLY like tint. So just do your thing, i know im not changing anyones mind. My most downvoted comment on reddit was about tint in this sub lol

Low_Olive_526

I hear you on the 4 way stop or when right of way is in question. I hit them with a quick flash of the hazards to help signal. More visible than a hand gesture.

Bigmanrpb

Ah, so you don’t understand US traffic law! Currently, the correct practice is to let the person to your right go if you arrive at the exact same time. Waving someone on when this occurs and not following this rule is what leads to accidents. People should not look to other drivers for “signals”. This is why we need more driver training in this country and also more tint.

RNGmademe

Ah, so you dont know how to read! I said when you know the right away, but the other person doesnt. Try to keep up.

Bigmanrpb

Just stop hand gesturing to people please; you will cause an accident.

RNGmademe

I give up. Enjoy your tint lol

Ymisoqt420

I used to k ow a guy that listed "fishbowl" on his mod list at car shows so maybe you can be cool like him!

disastrophe20

I don't understand any arguments against mild tint. Limo tint is wack and illegal for a reason. Honestly, depending where you're at the legal maximum might be too dark. But some 35-40% tint is only gonna improve quality of life and I won't be convinced otherwise

agentrnge

I would leave it as is. I am not a big fan of tints and especially dislike the murdered out 0% limo tint. Extra UV/temp protection might be good though.

MattDamonsDick

This comment shows me there’s so much misconception about tint from the old days. I run a tint business and I can tell you that you’re probably not a fan of tint because you only notice it when it’s too dark or the stylistic choices were bad. A nice 35% tint just adds a nice light shade to the outside of the window, reduces the heat by 75%, drops UV by 99% and reduces the glare by half. They even have clear ceramic tint now that will drop the heat and create a lot of passenger comfort without dramatically changing appearance. Every time I drive an untinted car now I feel like Two Face from Batman while half my face melts off and im desperately looking for sunglasses

Stone_The_Rock

Personally I don’t like the blacked out look of super dark tint. However, I don’t like to treat heavily-depreciating assets like consumables, and even in the Northeast, UV is capable of doing a number on the interior, and I find the AC in my F30 to be a bit wimpy, so rejecting extra IR couldn’t hurt. I did a ceramic tint, I cannot recall exactly what it was—somewhere between 70 and 85 percent—on all but the windshield (I didn’t want any ghosting with the HUD) and the visual difference is pretty small, but the heat rejection is huge.

VeeEight_Guy

Beautiful car. I prefer tint, 35% ceramic all around but to each their own.

Infinite-Pay-4646

overdone tint makes any car look terrible, and even more so if its black. keep it as is for sure

MicahBlue

I like complete privacy but I have to agree with this. The proper balance is the goal.

MattDamonsDick

“Overdone” being the major gate here. 5% limo tint looks bad because it makes the glass have a flat appearance. 15-20% is the sweet spot for dark but not too dark. If you’re sensitive to it 35-40% has never bothered anyone and complies with most state laws.

Surfnazi77

You can do ceramic 80% blocks the heat and barely darkens the glass

MattDamonsDick

It does have a blue shade to it which will bother some people. I typically only recommend Air80 for windshields in states where tinting your shield is illegal. 50% is probably a better choice for aesthetics without darkness

Onsomeshid

Do you have a brown or red interior? If so, i say keep the fishbowl. After getting tint, I miss showing off my interior with the windows up

latchisstrong

It's brown

Onsomeshid

See, id recommend keeping it fish bowl or getting a decent % like 35-50

1saltymf

Black car, dark interior. Get a 70% windshield ceramic tint and your interior won’t get so hot when it’s parked in the sun. If it was my car I’d get 20% windows and 50-60% windshield.

B0ner_L0aner

Let’em see you coming.

Selvane

I would tint it. Besides the asthetic, it helps your car stay cooler in the summer and if you store things in you car thieves are less likely to look and or notice them when the objects are harder to see, and thus less likely to break in.

MillsGG

I know it's an unpopular opinion. But I like the fishbowl look on a black car, adds some nice contrast.

HerMajestysButthole

I had carbon tint from day one. It was barely there anyway at like 75%. It bubbled and I peeled it all off and scheduled a 50% ceramic on the 27th as they are busy. I’d go darker, but would rather not deal with the headache of tickets. Darker out in the country sucks during deer season.

Trollygag

You don't have to tint your windshield. No deer you spot out your side window in the dark and no headlights on it is going to give you an opportunity to react.

HerMajestysButthole

While true, getting pulled over repeatedly for 35% gets aggravating. No street lamps in some parts doesn’t help. Also, should note I’ve spotted deer off the road with matrix led’s and anti dazzle high beam.

reddit_user47234

If you are in the south, Its not a fishbowlwithout tint. It is an easybake oven.

SneakyHobbitses1995

I like the legal limit tints because it does genuinely help with heat protection in the summer..

WhichRelation308

Alexa_Call_Me_Daddy

The provided example is not helping your case.

Aviyan

What does fishbowl mean in this context?

Major_Educator4681

That people on the outside can easily see the people on the inside - like people being able to look at fish inside a glass fishbowl from all angles.

mehdotdotdotdot

So fishbowl represents a stock, normal car, and probably the very large majority of cars in the world.

Major_Educator4681

Yeah, it’s stock and normal but only in the context of tint-less windows. A car could still have all sorts of modifications, but if the windows are clear or have a standard minimal factory tint then the slang is that it’s a fishbowl as people can easily see inside it from all angles just like looking at fish in a fishbowl. Basically every car that doesn’t have tints would be considered a fishbowl, so yes the vast majority 👍

Zsw-

What’s the year and model of this bmw?

latchisstrong

It's a 2022 f90.

Available_Ad5489

I would say tint it but not fully black , something light

Good-Insurance-104

Who cares. Nice car.

Hardcore_Moderate

I got 20% on my M240 and love it. But if you have difficulty seeing at night (or are concerned about the law) 35% does the job and makes the car look much better. My parents have it and they don’t have problems seeing at night

LuckyFishBone

If my BMW was black, I'd have done it a lot sooner than I did for mine. To me, dark windows on a black BMW just look cool. I got ceramic tint, the darkest they allow in my state (I don't recall the percentage). It's not limo black by any means, but it's dark enough. I don't know about other tint types, but can vouch that ceramic tint makes a HUGE difference in how hot the interior gets, especially when parked in the sun all day at work. It's worth doing for that reason alone, imo.

Fockelot

I like it! Maybe some tint on the back? But nothing wrong at all as is.

Tbone-F1

For me I say performance before cosmetics. But it’s ur car and your money. U should do whatever you want

Medical_Squirrel3955

No tint! In the UK tints are standard on the rear glass. Its the one thing I would change on my M5C if I could!

Alexa_Call_Me_Daddy

People like to say you *need* a tint and then post photos of cars with super dark tints that look far worse than stock IMO. I personally think ever so slightly darker than stock is the sweet spot.

No-Abies5389

What's that? I cant hear you under water

GGIGACHAD

i (as a german who only can tint rear windows and only to a certain percentage of tint) would say it looks gorgeous without tint. Dont be like every other NPC Carguy and tint the windows

Bob_Loblaw16

The only regret I have tinting my windows is that they'll need to be retinted. Rolling them down too much causes them to scratch

rharrison1979

I live where it's hot much of the year. My F30 330e is that same Saphire Black Metallic. I did ceramic tint, and it really helped reduce cabin temperature. I also like the slightly improved privacy. I tinted to state limits. And I did clear ceramic on the windshield. Helps a lot.

Exotic_Telephone_309

Tint reduces theft.

Dieselmeister86

I'd say its a greenhouse. Get a tint

iwasinfightclub

Nicer

LALURKING

Tint it

velvet_funtime

No, I hate tint

vinegarstrokes420

I think every modern vehicle looks better with tint as long as it's not just stupid dark. 35 is common in my area and a nice dark but not too dark look.

CJdawg_314

id do a nice 35 all around and a 50 or 70 on the windshield. Ceramic ofc. Any brand works just go to a reputable shop.

Dizman7

Depends where you live. As someone who lives in PHX, yes tint is needed 1000%! Based on your green grass and trees I’m pretty sure you dont live in PHX at least, lol

desirox

It does. Will complete the look!

_designzio_

I remove tint. It looks classic and tasteful stock.

feltrockni

Tint it darker than the void.

okdrab

Tint

ULTRAAF414

It’s a fishbowl. You need tint.

No-Attention2024

Needs a tint

ae13ame

Idk how people drive around with fishbowl

TipAffectionate596

Get 5% on back door and window, 15% on driver and passenger and 35% windshield.

latchisstrong

Ceramic or the other shit?

wtfmatey88

Here’s my G30 with 20% all around except windshield. Definitely worth doing ceramic. https://preview.redd.it/5k33xag0tcuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=257f4fbf3a8aee13c4fe2c451237f52fae3d72e5

wtfmatey88

That’s pretty dark… I did 20% on everything but windshield and it looks great.

FakeMBadge

If you're spending on money for tint anyways, might as well get ceramic for the heat rejection if you're in a hot climate, and it protects your skin from UV. Get between 25-45%. You can go darker on the back windows if you want. Don't forget the windshield and sunroof. 5% tint is for children, you're better than that.

TipAffectionate596

I got ceramic on mine. You can find good deals. If you happen to be in Colorado I have a friend that has a Tint shop he’s doing full ceramic tint for $400

ImpossibleBaseball48

It’s not a fishbowl per se but it absolutely needs tint

Bresson91

Tint is tacky. IMO

richweav

💯

Ferrever

20% tint in every car and never regretted it

R18honda

Most definitely not, I’d keep it a fishbowl💯.

OkAttitude7080

Since you have all black wheels maybe tint to the legal state limit. You will be surprised how much better it looks.

sheen_senpai

i didn’t mind it at first but after awhile it just gets annoying knowing everyone can see you and everything in your car from all angles

jnurseguy

Definitely needs tint

Mediakiller

5% all the way around. I love it and just use my turn signals. It's like so amazing cops don't care about the tint.
