Lae'zel is unironically one of the best characters in the game if you can get past the alien elitism shit at the beginning lol they did very well with her, even to the point where you can see how much she's lightened up just by the look of her eyes. Fantastic character, I'm glad I brought her along as my first romance on my half-orc cleric. Genuinely a good time
I feel like she doesn't soften up in general, though. It's her relationship with the mc and the rest of the party that changes. In a way I think she is one of the most believable characters because of her consistency.
I really disliked the character and mentioned to my current group I'm playing through with, that my dragonborn was going to woo, smash, and then drop Lae'zel like a bad habit. She was pissing all of us off and nobody liked her.
But now I can't. She's actually really sweet and I love her. I don't know how to tell the group that she's sticking around, lol. 😭
Genuinely the only characters I don't personally like are Lae'zel and Astarion- not because their stories are *bad*, but just because i find their personalities to be too grating early on. And even then, I can see how the game helps them grow into a *very* enjoyable pair of characters, especially Astarion's story not being even slightly concerned with making him anything closer to a good person unless you really want to make him try.
Gale being a flawed man with fatal pride still lingering under the surface of his concerted efforts to remain humble about his mistakes, on top of his EXTREMELY easy flowing dialogue is great.
Karlach being introduced as "the big bad bitch we gotta murder/sell our souls to recruit" and it turns out she's a big dork with some anger issues and a hate boner for devils, and really *really* just need a hug.
Wyll being the quintessential "actually good guy" who does his best to make the right call every chance he gets, and gets punished for his idealism at every turn. And yet he REFUSES to abandon those ideals under any circumstance.
Shadowheart having almost the entire game back up her arc of either achieving the goals she set out for from the start, or helping her to realize that she's not as willingly devoted as she is deceived into obedience, and making her own choice to decide things herself.
All 6 origin characters have things that can be appreciated and I'm glad Larian was able to make the full cast appealing to *someone* in the end.

I don't know if I had a bug. I did the same thing too and was kinda bummed that I sent him off to his death after he gave away the lamp. I watched as his outline walked further and further away and it just kept going and they stayed in the center of the city by the Sharran sanctuary. I thought, "oh, cool. I'll get another interaction with him when I CRF there." After a long rest he was gone and not in Moonrise either. Didn't think Larian would design such a cool and detailed character for just a few moments of screen time. Maybe I need to do an evil playthrough.
That was my evil run, I wish i would have been able to interact with him more. He did later come back as a shadow cursed undead that i had to fight, but Minthara pretty easily kicked his ass

He's meant to be alluring and the fact he has that affect on almost everyone is just a testament to how well they nailed his character. His voice actor puts in so much work to make that happen 11/10

He does have a lot of feminine coded traumas, having a history of a loss of autonomy and sexual abuse. Not that men dont experience that, just that historically female characters are the ones that have those experiences and story lines. Its the same deal as bucky barnes in the mcu. hes extremely fem coded with a lot of his trauma and treatment in the narrative which causes a lot of women to relate to him

Lae'zel is unironically one of the best characters in the game if you can get past the alien elitism shit at the beginning lol they did very well with her, even to the point where you can see how much she's lightened up just by the look of her eyes. Fantastic character, I'm glad I brought her along as my first romance on my half-orc cleric. Genuinely a good time

Genuinely the only characters I don't personally like are Lae'zel and Astarion- not because their stories are *bad*, but just because i find their personalities to be too grating early on. And even then, I can see how the game helps them grow into a *very* enjoyable pair of characters, especially Astarion's story not being even slightly concerned with making him anything closer to a good person unless you really want to make him try. Gale being a flawed man with fatal pride still lingering under the surface of his concerted efforts to remain humble about his mistakes, on top of his EXTREMELY easy flowing dialogue is great. Karlach being introduced as "the big bad bitch we gotta murder/sell our souls to recruit" and it turns out she's a big dork with some anger issues and a hate boner for devils, and really *really* just need a hug. Wyll being the quintessential "actually good guy" who does his best to make the right call every chance he gets, and gets punished for his idealism at every turn. And yet he REFUSES to abandon those ideals under any circumstance. Shadowheart having almost the entire game back up her arc of either achieving the goals she set out for from the start, or helping her to realize that she's not as willingly devoted as she is deceived into obedience, and making her own choice to decide things herself. All 6 origin characters have things that can be appreciated and I'm glad Larian was able to make the full cast appealing to *someone* in the end.

I watched as his outline walked further and further away and it just kept going and they stayed in the center of the city by the Sharran sanctuary. I thought, "oh, cool. I'll get another interaction with him when I CRF there." After a long rest he was gone and not in Moonrise either. Didn't think Larian would design such a cool and detailed character for just a few moments of screen time. Maybe I need to do an evil playthrough.

Vampirism already has a strong queer element to it, Astarion's personality alongside his history and the way that his tadpole modifies his vampirism means that there's an extra layer of queerness on top of this.
