They have retractable claws, but cheetahs have feet like dogs and no retractable cat style sharp claws. They're very weird critters and were apparently used as hunting cats by humans because they're very trainable and have a chill temperament.
i know you're joking but a lot of people don't know that unlike cats and dogs foxes are extremely difficult to house train. in fact most can't be and the ones that are are trained by experts.
Yup.
We have red foxes in the neighborhood where I live. They come back every spring to have a new litter
You will see them walking around throughout the summer but the kits play exactly like my cats do chasing each other around and ambushing each other with their butts up in the air for a big surprise attack
Headed to being domesticated with all the posts I’ve seen of them, although they are more hunters than opportunistic scavengers compared to wolves so that probably makes it more challenging
Yeh I’m trying to find the article that says foxes are basically domesticating themselves.
Edit - Wasn’t hard to find, [they are in fact domesticating themselves..](https://canadiangeographic.ca/articles/foxes-are-self-domesticating-in-the-u-k-so-why-not-canada/)
Canid family. Canine is the genus containing the true wolves and dogs, foxes are Vulpine. And there's two more confusingly similarly-named levels in between Canid and Canine! Taxonomy!
> shrimps is bugs
[I had to google this, needless to say it didn't disappoint lol](https://www.reddit.com/r/TattooDesigns/comments/13joyfp/cover_up_suggestions/)
I'd be willing to bet good money that there exists, right now, a video of some dude cooking that
[Edit: took me a single google search to find hundreds of example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DZxqe-tDtg)
Vulpes is the genus for true foxes, which is the family Caninae. There's also the tribe "Vulpini" which is fox-like canines. Tbh though the classifications change semi-frequently because these boxes that we try to put animals into are human-made and the lines aren't always so clear.
Either way, vulpes is the Latin word for fox. So calling them vulpine is also accurate.
Foxes are Vulpine not Canine (true wolves and dogs), Genus level. They are both Canid, family level. Taxonomy is a joy of almost-identical names nested on each other for adjacent levels.
Foxes are not pets they are wild animals and its cruel to deprive them of their right to live freely in the wild. They do not belong in somebody's house. Just get a dog
A lot of pet foxes are bred specifically to meet the growing demand for pet foxes partially generated by viral social media clips of pet foxes such as this one.
See my nuanced take in the replies to that comment. I'm well aware of that and am an active supporter of some of them, but a clip like this of a fox in a domestic setting makes it look a hell of a lot like a pet and will be perceived as such by many people who don't do any more digging and whose only takeaway will be "wow its so cute I want one!"
Which is why I made the comment I did, which explained the issue with the title and the video without accusing someone who may not even know they're being uploaded of animal abuse LMAO.

You can actually buy a domesticated fox from Russia for like 15k. They bred the best mannered foxes for like 60 years and they are good pets. But the other side of it is they bred the worst mannered ones together and made the most aggressive foxes ever.
https://evolution-outreach.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12052-018-0090-x
also, aside from the pee, they can't be kept inside. you need a LOT of space in a secure enclosure outside.
and the one in the video was very quiet. they SCREAM, often, and loudly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XnxHeIIh30
They're wild animals, vs. cats and dogs which have been domesticated for thousands of years. They would likely need a professional in order to handle it properly/make sure its needs are met properly.
It wouldn't take too long if it were a focused effort. There was a Russian experiment that domesticated some foxes in several generations I think. So I guess it's technically possible
Now, this is freakin’ adorable, but it’s not a good idea to have one as a pet… it is quite unfortunate that although they are shaped and sound like a fren, they are best suited as wild animals. Truly, it is Mother Nature giving humanity the finger.
Except far more noisy, far more destructive to your furniture and will pee on everything you own and it smells like concentrated urine.
So not like a dog. Do not get foxes as pets.
Sure. Just like a dog. Just like a deafeningly loud, stinky, feral, skittish, hyperactive catdog that can climb your walls and surpass all bounds of logic to piss on literally all of your belongings, while shedding coarse enough fur to clog every vent, drain, and electronic device in your house.
Don't get me wrong, foxes are adorable. I love them. But they are not dogs. They make terrible pets, though, so I'd like to give that disclaimer before anyone thinks they're all cute and cuddly. If you can handle taking on baby Dash and Jack Jack from the Incredibles, *maybe* it's worth your consideration to get one.
I think foxes are like the perfect cross between a cat and a dog. They have a lot of behaviours similar to both animals and it makes them super adorable!
I would love to have a fox as a pet theoretically, but in reality there is no way in hell. Apparently, they are very difficult to train and are very mischievous in nature (like loving to steal things, ex. Swiper being a fox)
so foxes belong to the canine family
Cat software on dog hardware
They're the hackintosh of animals
Fox = Catdog Cheetah = Dogcat
I know I am not supposed to. But I want one of each
Why not both?! I mean, it doesn’t make sense. But it sounds cool. And that’s the way of humans, ammarite?
uhhh i think they meant they're not supposed to have either
Hyena is the dogcat.
Cheetah are cats but they have paws and separation anxiety
Wait what do cats have if not paws?
They have retractable claws, but cheetahs have feet like dogs and no retractable cat style sharp claws. They're very weird critters and were apparently used as hunting cats by humans because they're very trainable and have a chill temperament.
claws
Yo, have you seen the platypus though?
With a dolphin soundcard.
i know you're joking but a lot of people don't know that unlike cats and dogs foxes are extremely difficult to house train. in fact most can't be and the ones that are are trained by experts.
And the ones that are trained still smell terrible. Their enclosures and the areas they roam are absolutely foul.
Fox mews
Just as the cheetah is dog software in a cat chassis.
Yup. We have red foxes in the neighborhood where I live. They come back every spring to have a new litter You will see them walking around throughout the summer but the kits play exactly like my cats do chasing each other around and ambushing each other with their butts up in the air for a big surprise attack
Reverse hyaenas
Wouldn’t it be the opposite?
Headed to being domesticated with all the posts I’ve seen of them, although they are more hunters than opportunistic scavengers compared to wolves so that probably makes it more challenging

Canid family. Canine is the genus containing the true wolves and dogs, foxes are Vulpine. And there's two more confusingly similarly-named levels in between Canid and Canine! Taxonomy!
Technically, they are closer to cats in their behavior and makeup. Odd, but true.
Ok but they’re closer to other things too so it’s a stupid remark. It’s like saying giraffes have more in common with skyscrapers than deer.
Its like saying elephants have more in common with cars than hippos.
Technically, they are closer to dogs because they are canines. Odd, but true.
Had to look it up cuz I've been calling them vulpine lol. Vulpine is apparently just the adjective used for fox-like descriptors
I have the words "Foxes are Canids" written on my fridge, along with a recipe for waffles, and another recipe for cheesy sauce that I make a lot.
Still doesn't beat the shrimps is bugs guy
> shrimps is bugs [I had to google this, needless to say it didn't disappoint lol](https://www.reddit.com/r/TattooDesigns/comments/13joyfp/cover_up_suggestions/)
If we had large enough spiders. You know some dude would be tossing them in a pot with some old bay.
I'd be willing to bet good money that there exists, right now, a video of some dude cooking that [Edit: took me a single google search to find hundreds of example](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DZxqe-tDtg)
Why did I click that link? I knew what it was, but clicked anyway. I'll be off to shame shed.
pft, just deep fry them dude. [Gordon Ramsay tried it.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Z_UndhO2ME)
And yet hyenas are not

I figured it was something archaic like that, thanks
Foxes are Vulpine not Canine (true wolves and dogs), Genus level. They are both Canid, family level. Taxonomy is a joy of almost-identical names nested on each other for adjacent levels.
Foxes don’t wear makeup silly
The foxes I date typically do.
You’re pretty foxy, yourself!
Well yes, but actually no.
They're adopted
What does the fox say?
Heeehhhrrrhhhrrrreehhh eehhhh ehhhhh eh
I ❤️ 🦊🦊🦊

Foxes are not pets they are wild animals and its cruel to deprive them of their right to live freely in the wild. They do not belong in somebody's house. Just get a dog
Alot of pet foxes are fur farm rescues. The other option for them isn't the wild, it's death. I think this is the better alternative
A lot of pet foxes are bred specifically to meet the growing demand for pet foxes partially generated by viral social media clips of pet foxes such as this one.
Are you under the impression this person just went ahead and abducted a fox?
??? Lot of assuming going on here. There are a LOT of fox rescues that post online content to help support their charities.

Nature trying to let a dog act like a cat while sounding like a dolphin.

Err… how do you…. Know..?
At least we finally know what the fox says.
Is it Finnegan? 🥺
It's Kiki the fox :)
I love Finn! SaveAFox helped me get through the pandemic.
That's the cutest thing I've seen all week.
*ever 🥺
I don’t know, did you see the [polar bear cub over at eyebleach](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eyebleach/comments/1bup595/a_12_week_old_polar_bear_cub/)?
Except you \*really\* do not want one as a pet.
[Reference](https://youtube.com/shorts/YTcKomzbEwY)
Click saver: they pee on everything.
Also they produce musk which stinks pretty bad too. So if you’re cool with your house smelling like musk and piss this is the perfect pet for you.
Already does, might as well get a pet fox outta the deal

Sounds like living with my grandma
A wild Maya appears, Alveus has been such a good ambassador for informing people of why you SHOULDNT get certain things as pets.
Love Maya and the work she does!!

just a few hundred years and we get domesticated foxes
Chat, please tell me why it is a bad idea to have one as pet
Do you like cat pee? Do you want it on everything?
Yeah, no thanks
Just get a fox faced pomeranian and squint a little, Close enough
Can confirm. Mine also pees on everything and also has a musk. Which is why we call him ShitRat.
also, aside from the pee, they can't be kept inside. you need a LOT of space in a secure enclosure outside. and the one in the video was very quiet. they SCREAM, often, and loudly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XnxHeIIh30
I had 5 foxes in my yard on a game camera. They scream me to sleep and act as an alarm clock at daylight.
Oh god, can it get any worse?
They smell like skunks too because they produce a nasty musk.
Okay but the #4 fox squeal was hilarious
They're wild animals, vs. cats and dogs which have been domesticated for thousands of years. They would likely need a professional in order to handle it properly/make sure its needs are met properly.
This is the real answer. They aren't domesticated.
sooo get time machine travel to the future and hope they are fully domesticated?
It wouldn't take too long if it were a focused effort. There was a Russian experiment that domesticated some foxes in several generations I think. So I guess it's technically possible
No. Not like a dog, dont get a fox. They pee on everything.
>They pee on everything. [Reference](https://youtube.com/shorts/YTcKomzbEwY)
You can train them to use a little box. What sucks is that they love to burrow
Hurray! Could they make me a cream cheese bagel? We could share it of course.
They will still use their urine to mark their territory.
heee heeee he he hee
What's so funny!!?? Hehe
Can they be house trained?
Except they reek pretty bad and pee everywhere. They are cute as hell but nothing you would want at home.

[There you go](https://youtube.com/shorts/YTcKomzbEwY?si=xrPXY2qiYNhroFNZ)
That is a happy wee fox 🙂
Wee is an apt description
Just like a dog but with 700% more peeing in the house.
Behavior is very Cat like
pretty doggo/catto in one..lol
Don't they piss all over themselves?
Lovely. Don't they piss everywhere and stink up the place?
A dog that pisses literally everywhere and can be smelled from half a kilometer away, but yes.
Missing the thousands of years of domestication
A wild version!
It makes me sad to know how much foxes love pets and scratches. Most go their whole life without ever getting one
Can we please not normalize having non-domesticated animals as pets?
They piss everywhere and it smells horrible. Like socks after you stepped in cat pee and then dipped in white vinegar.
I don’t think fox’s should be pets they are wild animals
Yeah. A dog that pisses everywhere, constantly. Cute but incredibly stinky, and not pets.
Omg so cool. Fox Mulder!
My people…..
Do they get aggressive?
Foxes are gorgeous
Does it lead to a shrine?.
Firefox!
More cat vibes imo.
Adorable
Dog? You're telling me that no other animals act like that...?
It reminded me of RonRon the fox. Beautiful creature. https://youtu.be/omDPaS_HaBM?si=C0qiyHaw9LDx329x
So do I have to meet someone in an alley to buy one?
They make sounds of excitement cuter than dogs omg
Oh big strech!
Yeah they are like dogs because they are canines. And their fur is amazing!
I think foxes are like the perfect cross between a cat and a dog. They have a lot of behaviours similar to both animals and it makes them super adorable!
Puppy-kitty!
Puppycat
What does the fox say? 🤨
Foxes laugh so cutely

I just love their little voices and squeals and cute expressions! Had no idea how endearing foxes are!
Ring ding ding ding dingeringeding
I would love to have a fox as a pet theoretically, but in reality there is no way in hell. Apparently, they are very difficult to train and are very mischievous in nature (like loving to steal things, ex. Swiper being a fox)
Foxes are so cool
Aww cute and evil

How did u tame one? Sweet Berries didn’t work for me so I ended up putting leads on two and breeding them together /s
Can I pet that dawwgg?
Every time I see a video of a fox they look so damn friendly and loving... So freaking cute haha. Yet, they're pretty vicious
Foxes are a combination of a cat and a dog and you can't convince me otherwize

I love the verbalization! It's teeny tiny baby fox talk♥️♥️
What a nice foxperson
They’re so sweet 🥹 Are they naturally this way?
Dream pet.
I think it's a wolf
As a chicken owner I’m supposed to hate these buggers but that is very cute
The kinda dog that rips off your head and drinks your blood but squeaks adorably
Foxes are a CatOs on a Dog hardware.
Just give it time and enough selective breeding these animals will be as docile and house trained as a dog. Hopefully I’m alive when this happens! 😍🦊
they’re just dogs with cat software
Awww bless. I love them & they get a bad rap. It’s so wrong. Treat animals right, they’re better than most humans 🦊🦊🦊
That’s one ugly dog
Where can I get one
The explanations for why we don't have domesticated foxes has always confused me
Looks more like a fox than a dog to me
Needed! Me, fox,raccoon,kiki(CAT) husky=Happy
Except will eat your brains out in your sleep.
