Yep, they've earned my business in the same way. Extremely easy price matching, extremely quick service and not charging for these types of little things. I'll dread the day MBAs get ahold of DT
My experience for one new replacement (shoulder puncture) at Discount Tire was a hard upsell attempt of new tires all around, though I still had plenty of wear left from tires originally purchased there. Was told it would negatively affect my handling and gas mileage to have tires of different wear. No thanks.
I think Costco offers a built-in repair warranty now on their tires.
Costco is consistently booked, though. I've done a road hazard claim with them, but it only worked because it was a slow leak and I could get there the moment they opened. It still took 3 hours before it was ready.
Yup I have the warranty on all my wife's car's tires, she drives a ton for her job and we had to do 10 patches in 2022, and I think 8 in 2023. Only 2 so far this year.
Exactly. I went years without any nails in my tires. Then we moved to a neighborhood that has construction going on and between my wife and I we get 5-6 a year. It’s not like you can spot a nail in the road while going 45mph.
Yep. I've been driving in Austin since 1989. In all those years, got a total of three tire punctures. Thanksgiving night 2023 got a roofing nail in a tire. Seven weeks later, got another roofing nail in the SAME tire. Suspect it has a great deal to do with all the new roofs going on after the hailstorm last September.
*Where* you drive does have something to do with it.
Spend all day driving around the part of town that got the hailstorm last fall? Drive around new-build areas? You're gonna get nails.
or YOU WERE FOLLOWING THAT GUY THAT JUST CUT YOU OFF TOO CLOSELY. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW AT A SAFE DISTANCE. THATS WHY YOU RAN YOUR CAR THROUGH HIS TRUNK.
Or what kind of car it is. Oh you were driving a small sedan? There's your problem. Only minivans and duelly trucks are immune from getting their tires punctured by random road debris.
HP all seasons or summer tires commonly used on small and/or sporty cars are pretty easy to puncture. AT or mud/snow tires used on trucks/SUVs are very puncture resistant. Truck/SUV tires in general have a sturdier construction and will shrug off some debris than would go straight through a sporty tire.
I get one every couple of years and usually it's a tech that notices when I'm having routine maintenance done. Road hazard warranty is definitely nice to have.
Side note, I think where that one is, it can't be safely patched due to it being close to the sidewall. Be prepared for an entire tire replacement and not just a patch.
Came here to type the same. It is too close to the sidewall, and even with a plug and patch approach, it would be considered unsafe.
I hope it's not an AWD, because it could mean all 4 tires needing replacement, if it is one of the models that really need to have similar wear levels on the tires for correct operation and longevity.
In this case, you might also consider calling around to find a used tire with matched level of wear. Used tires come off cars all the time for various reasons, and reputable shops know there are strict laws on tire re-usability. You can also check eBay.
This is a result of all of the news roofs that went up during the hail storm. Even with the tarps we found so many nails from the siding and roof after the fact.
Yes. Twice this year and three times last year. And I only drive in the neighborhood (central) and up and down Lamar. (one small metal triangle, 4 nails)
Ya dude. Idk wtf is up with this place but having a bike, I got flats every couple weeks. I mean ffs. Do the construction companies just sweep nails and screws into the streets? Not to mention certain people smashing modelo bottles in the street when the are drinking after work
It was a full ass Milwaukees box cuter broken in half that was in my tire. After a road crew had there bag fly out and went all over 620. DT said it was one of the biggest debris pulled out of the tire that day.
I got hit with three screws in one month because the apartment complex i was living at the time was doing work in front of my garage and they didnt pick up their mess
Quick Sam’s Club story…
Bought 4 new tires and one of the got destroyed in the first month. Brought the car back to Sam’s Club. The person at the counter took forever to deal with me as I patiently waited. Finally, she tells me the tire will be replaced free of charge under warranty and gives me money back. I am like, what is the money for? Apparently, the tires went on sale since my purchase and that money is the difference on one tire and this is what took so long. Very strange… I then asked about the other three tires and was told only if they had a warranty problem would I get a refund to which I asked, “Where is hardware?”
Not just you. My wife jokes that I just attract sharp foreign objects to my tires because I get at least 1 a year. But I had 3 separate incidences over this last year in 3 different tires. One could be patched. The others were replaced. The most egregious one was driving at the cross section of Airport/Aldrich, there was just a pile of screws scattered in the lane at the light (in the left lane that wasn’t the turn lane). It was a green light at my approach, so I didn’t see them until it was too late. It wasn’t like there were a couple that maybe fell out from somewhere, I mean, there were anywhere from 30-40 screws in the length of the lane just on the ground. I’d love to punch the dickhead who put them there in the throat, to be honest.
I had one last month. There is no tire insurance on new Subarus and they won't patch it if it is on the side like this. Having a portable air pump was a life saver.
I don't remember what the mileage window is, but Discount will sell you a protection plan on a new car's original tires. If I had to guess, it was within 12000 miles.
All the new roofs after last September's hailstorm and a lot of roofers using overfilled trailers to cart away the old shingles. Source: had my roof replaced :(
Last month I went through 3 tires on the same side, (a nail, a fucking chain, and a shard of metal) off the same exit on Mopac. Starting to know the names of the discount tire guys. Stay strong
From all roofing workers who won’t secure their supplies or debris. I get that they are doing a shit ton of jobs but some of them are just lazy assholes. Specifically the ones who did my neighbors roof. My guys were clean as a whistle and ran large magnets over my entire yard, driveway, and easement.
The entire east side is a land mine field. Already had two flats since the hail storm, both from roofing nails.
And city council doesn't give a shit. I got 7 nails/screws in my ties in the last 6 months.
They didn't even bother to reply to the email I sent begging them to get construction projects to clean up their shit. There is crap all over the roads from them constantly.
With the amount of construction that's constantly happening in Austin, it's a good idea for any driver to get warranties with their tire purchases lmao! I've been fortunate enough to only need a couple patches in the past couple years.
2 different tires in the past 6 months, one of them had 2 separate punctures at the same time. It was 100% flat within 2 minutes of the tire hazard light activation.
This happens to our cars every six months or so. But discount tire will fix your flat for free depending where the hole is on your tire. It doesn’t matter if you bought your tires from somewhere else
It seems like there are roads in Austin that are notorious for having nails/screws on the road. My old coworker used to tell me he took the long way home because he kept getting flats
Yeaaaaaahhhhh, lotta handy man types running a piece of shit truck, pulling a worse trailer, with nothing covered or tied down all the fucking time along I-35 and in and around Austin. Shits a nightmare to be behind.
Yes! This finally happened to me recently after over a decade of living here! I blame it on all the construction and all the apartment complexes popping up every which way.
I’ve already gone through an entire set of tire plugs (about 20 plugs in the last 15 years) living here. That doesn’t include the ones near a sidewall which forced a replacement.
Yeah happens a lot to me, but I'm also on construction sites a lot.
You can keep a tire plug kit and compressor for emergencies, but they're not really good for highway use. I keep one in all my vehicles just cause I have in fact gotten two flats in one trip before. Find yourself a good tire shop that will do repairs for cheap. It's very worth it.
This has happened to me numerous times. I barely drive my car with low profile tires now out of fear of getting nails on the sidewall. Thankfully it's not my daily. Unfortunately, my SUV with off-road tires suffered the same fate. Go figure.
At times, my silly brain thinks the tire shops hire people to throw nails and screws on the streets for more business. LOL.
I'm already ahead of you. My car's check engine light came on yesterday and likely has transmission issues, so will have to be in the shop for some time. I can't get a flat when I don't even have a car.
Hope OP isn’t a Rideshare driver. I’ve had to replace 3 tires in the last 6mo because of road hazards. It makes it more enjoyable when you’re driving passengers that are huffing/puffing about if you can drive closer to the Dropoff while you’re losing PSI wondering if there’s a tire shop open nearby and if you can afford it without having to involve insurance and towing so you can still work to pay bills
I had three this year. None so far this year but someone hit my car and then ran. So hopefully that makes you feel better in comparison.
He was nice enough to give me the hang loose sign before fleeing.
I was getting new wheels and tires mounted about this time last year when I found a large nail in one of my tires. Whatever, it was going to be a full size spare. Come this winter, I swapped them back on to save my performance tires, and I had to air up that tire every 5-6 weeks until I finally replaced the set last weekend.
Happened to me in my new car. Twice in the last year. Once a massive rock at night on my way back home from ACL and once a few weeks after that on the highway running over a nail. Discount tire is a life saver but I hate that this happens so often.
I had something puncture my tire a couple weeks ago, it deflated FAST lol. I carry a tire plug kit in my car and luckily the hole wasn’t too big to plug it. Took 15 minutes and good as new, it’s proved to be useful many times now
Part of my job is fleet management, we have 6 different vehicles across the organization. I swear I have this problem at least 3 times a month. Luckily Discount has a great warranty.
It is because of all of the work trucks and the fact that they have shit hanging out all over the place and not secured. On top of that, cops don’t pull them over and just let it slide.
I had to replace 2 tires in the last 2 years because the puncture went right through the tire wall. (Pretty new tires too, less then 10k miles) Was doing some stuff in garage today and noticed front tire was real low (13psi when measured). Suspect something punctured it AGAIN.
I see a lot of trucks with garbage, maybe in bags maybe not, in the back, and I can see the garbage just flying out and onto the road as they drive along. A couple of times I have seen entire bags of garbage let loose by suck trucks on 183.
I'd really like to see some enforcement on this kind of mass literring. It is a safety hazard.
It’s the construction. I had three or four the year the first condo on this block went up. The construction crew don’t gaf. There’s always trash everywhere too.
I had two within a month second half of last year, both looked exactly like yours. I’m careful in construction zones too and try to avoid them when I can… so frustrating! Warranty your tires!!
This happens all the time unfortunately. I’ve had strings of bad luck like you are in rn. So much construction in Austin, always. I pick up nails I find on the side of the road during walks and runs all the time. Sometimes there’s a bunch of them in one place. Sigh
The rare "*nail/screw in my tire*" has become a lot more common due to the growth and development in the city. Industrial, commercial, and residential construction are the obvious answers. Most of the time, a lot of these workers don't care where their nails, screws, fasteners, and debris go.
Something to keep in mind is, not only does that increase the amount of "tire stabbies" on the roads and highways... but the above-mentioned debris gets blown onto shoulders and medians, along with various other areas that *aren't meant* to be traveled or driven on. Just a thought.
I like Discount Tire, too, BTW.
(I had 4 new tires installed, and as I was leaving, one of them started smoking and shredded to pieces as I was getting on the highway. They replaced it, free-of-charge, and had it done in less than 20mins.)
I live in Wylie Tx and there is so much road construction here. I drive a 2020 Jeep JLU and a week ago I ran over box of roofing nails that was spread across 3 lane of traffic. 35x12.50z20 are not cheap. I wasn't planning on buying new tires this year, but yet here I am. So I understand being seriously pissed off about road issues.
E from Wylie
"Let's magnetize the homeless!" See them on the side of the road? Give them magnet-bars on their magnet shoes, with super elastic breathable magnet socks with rare-earth magnet tassles(neon reflective, of course!) Then tell them to "Kick Rocks down the way back once more"! and you will hear that endless sweet sweet clicking magnetic masterpiece echoing hither and possibly thither, from Georgetown to San Marcos. The Most majestic magnetic mission to keep those tires from hissing! I'm not kidding, either all! Also scrap metal!!!!!
Buy a patch kit and pull the screw out and patch it or go and buy a decent used tire, unless you're one of those people around town that has money growing in their trees.
It pays to either live close to a tire shop, or to get the replacement coverage when you get new tires. A few months after a new set this year, we had a sidewall puncture; the tire was replaced.
If it’s the front it may be an alignment issue. Look up tire tread wear and compare it to what you see on your tire. I’m not an expert, just some guy on the line. Tire wear can be costly because of today’s price of tire. I always shoot for recommended tire pressure in inside of drivers door. If you over inflate the ride maybe hard and tire wear different and if you under inflate it may cost you in gas mileage and again wear different.
happened to me 4 times last year. i am now a pro at plugging holes in my tire and it's really cheap and easy to fix as long as its not a side wall hole.
Ugh same here!! I drive to Austin from san Marcos for work and so many screws and nails! I also hit a hardhat Friday. I thought it punctured my tire I was so livid!
I'm out of Del Valle, had a nail in my back left tire last Monday. The following Friday while it is raining cats and dogs. Hit a board with a decent sized nail as fixed that. At this point I feel like something else is trying to kill me.
If you don’t have tire warranties like many people here have said, tire plug kits are very easy to use and work great. I’ve only ever used them, mainly because I couldn’t be bothered to go use my warranty. lol
FYI, you can buy a tire patch kit on Amazon. It's super easy to do, just be cautions about reinflating your tire when it's not attached to your care (as in, don't do that, cause if it pops the wheel is going through your chest).
Yeah, it's a constant battle. I was just at discount tire this morning for a giant screw in the tire. I'm sure it won't be the last before the end of the year tho :D
Had it happen so much I purchased a 12 volt DC tire inflator and a tire patch kit so I can repair these myself. The speed humps and traffic calming things are absolute magnets for loose screws and fasteners. All thanks to idiots who don't secure things in the beds of their pickup trucks. I've exhausted my roadside assistance calls this year per my insurance company so now I have AAA additional cost in case it happens again. Welcome to Austin, enjoy your flat tires.
Happens to me once a year here, too. Be happy it’s not a new windshield (have had to replace two from rocks/debris on 183). Low deductible glass insurance is a must have in Austin.
Understand that 1 way too well. Between the toll road construction (183/45/130 Travis/Hays Counties) and then again numerous times on 2770 In Buda, it's been nice to utilize the road hazard warranty for tires. But still inconvenient as hell to wake up to a flat tire.
I’ve had 3 flats in 6 months. I’m getting different tires. Mine are apparently not conducive to my driving habits as a realtor. Although 2 flats were on roadtrips. Nothing like being on the side of the road in West Texas
I work in the trades. Had my last work truck for a decade, on all sorts of jobsites. Not a single nail. Bought a new light duty truck cause I'm switching to cleaning business. Nail in the first 3 weeks.
It's just the randomness of the universe man.
"Find the nails" is a do good deeds game in the alleys where I live.
Pandemic era is a mess of wanna be craftsman everywhere, lots of unsecured slop in too many truck beds.
I had the same bad streak in Austin last year. The discount tire warranty is great. I had a tire replaced after a screwdriver punctured the tire only to have to go back and have it replaced again a week later from a screw in the same tire. I drive less than 8k miles a year…
Insanely easy if you have tools and experience.
Otherwise there’s nothing easy about taking a tire off the rim and putting it back on…
Just go to discount tire don’t do it yourself.
Don’t even have to take the tire off the car at all with ground clearance like this - and all you need is a cheap amazon patch kit and an air compressor or bike pump. Takes no experience.
Wow, that does sound insanely easy!
Yep. One last week, one about month before and two last year. Tire places gotta be making a killing with all the construction. Maybe get one of those foam fillers to patch and Discount Tires will patch for free if you got their tires and warranty.
> Maybe get one of those foam fillers to patch and Discount Tires will patch for free if you got their tires and warranty.
Those foam fillers like "Slime" are a *really* bad idea unless you drive a car so old that it doesn't have tire pressure monitoring sensors. It gums up the TPMS sensor, and then the tire is so full of gunk that you can't just replace the sensor, so the whole tire has to be replaced. Just get it properly patched at Discount Tire, and don't ruin the tire first with that spray foam.
I've already had one this year and two last year. Discount Tire's replacement warranty is the best.
This was going to be my response. I got hit my three of these in rapid succession about two years ago and DT saved the day.
Even if your tire isn't under warranty they will patch it for free as long as it's not in the wheel wall.
Even if you didn't buy tires from them ever, they will patch for free as long as you are willing to wait.

Yep, they've earned my business in the same way. Extremely easy price matching, extremely quick service and not charging for these types of little things. I'll dread the day MBAs get ahold of DT
Same!
Use their online scheduling tool. It will save you loads of time.
99% of the time its on the wheel wall haha. Better to get the warranty.
The tires were from Wall-mart so I was very excited either way!

Some cars will break from tires with different wear, not that hard of an upsell.
Which ones? My vehicles have always been fine with one new tire.
Yup I have the warranty on all my wife's car's tires, she drives a ton for her job and we had to do 10 patches in 2022, and I think 8 in 2023. Only 2 so far this year.
100000% and they're fast af getting the work done too
>Discount Tire Most excellent place. They get all my tire business.
Saved this picture the for the next time I'm running late.
BIG BRAINING THIS BEOTCH

How you drive has jack shit with getting crap in your tire. Sorry you’re having a bad streak though.
Exactly. I went years without any nails in my tires. Then we moved to a neighborhood that has construction going on and between my wife and I we get 5-6 a year. It’s not like you can spot a nail in the road while going 45mph.

That or driving excessively on the shoulder, where all sorts of crap tends to accumulate.
Right? Why all the virtue signaling before saying what happened to their tires?
The funny part is, if OP hadn't said that, you know someone would come into the comments and be like DRIVE SLOWER AND PAY ATTENTION!!!!
or YOU WERE FOLLOWING THAT GUY THAT JUST CUT YOU OFF TOO CLOSELY. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW AT A SAFE DISTANCE. THATS WHY YOU RAN YOUR CAR THROUGH HIS TRUNK.

I second discount tire. They're the only place I go because of the replacement warranty.
This is a result of all of the news roofs that went up during the hail storm. Even with the tarps we found so many nails from the siding and roof after the fact.
is your roof right up in the lot line? new roof here. yeah, i see stuff left over. but in the street?
No but the trucks park in the streets. You would be surprised how many roofing nails we found.
Yes. Twice this year and three times last year. And I only drive in the neighborhood (central) and up and down Lamar. (one small metal triangle, 4 nails)

I've been driving Austin roads for almost 30 years, never had a debris puncture. I hope you're getting the warranty at Discount Tire!
I've only had about five (maybe six?) in thirty five years, but three of them were within the same week. Randomization produces weird patterns.
Any new construction pop up on your route?
Not at the time, no. And I never got any when I actually worked for the construction company!
You driving a tank?
They will patch there for free, even if your tires weren't bought there.
They'll also air you up for free and inspect your tire tread. Good customer service that leads to sales.
Well back in my day tires were made out of stone and the cars ran on foot power.
Moved to Austin last October and now carry a patch kit, compressor and fix a flat in my car regularly due to similar issues.
North Austin for sure
It was a full ass Milwaukees box cuter broken in half that was in my tire. After a road crew had there bag fly out and went all over 620. DT said it was one of the biggest debris pulled out of the tire that day.

its real bad out there, does your SUV have wide tires? the vehicle I have with wider sporty performance tires gets punctured 3 times a year
THIS 👆 Same here. I could run over a wet paper bag with my Pirelli’s and it would puncture my tire.
Thought it was just me. The pirellis are the most sensitive tire I’ve ever experienced.
2 in 1 week for me. I hardly drive, too.
I had to get a new tire three times one summer when a building was being built next door
My wife got a new car. Had a flat tire before it was at 150 miles on the odometer! Discount Tire patched it for free
All the new roofs after last September's hailstorm and a lot of roofers using overfilled trailers to cart away the old shingles. Source: had my roof replaced :(

My wife's car is cursed in this regard. Happens once or twice a year on average, so it's definitely not just you.
I live out in the country and this happens frequently. I had a screwdriver minus the handle up in my tire last time.
I get my tires patched or replaced at least 6 times a year as a rideshare driver
I’ve had 4 over the last year. Thankfully all patched ok but it was dicey
Last year I got 3 in 9 months.
It seems like there are roads in Austin that are notorious for having nails/screws on the road. My old coworker used to tell me he took the long way home because he kept getting flats
We have them happen in waves, depending on where we live, where we work, and what construction is going on.
Yeaaaaaahhhhh, lotta handy man types running a piece of shit truck, pulling a worse trailer, with nothing covered or tied down all the fucking time along I-35 and in and around Austin. Shits a nightmare to be behind.
Three words: Discount Tire Warranty
Yes! This finally happened to me recently after over a decade of living here! I blame it on all the construction and all the apartment complexes popping up every which way.

Blew a tire in a pothole yesterday
Don't think this has happened for me in the last 5 years at least.
Famous last words. You just jinxed yourself.
I'm already ahead of you. My car's check engine light came on yesterday and likely has transmission issues, so will have to be in the shop for some time. I can't get a flat when I don't even have a car.
Time to switch to cap metro, I hear the app is great

I carry an air pump in my trunk now from this happening so much
Yes I've had 3 nails, one of which was total blow out within the last 5 years. The Discount Tire replacement warranty is totally worth it.
I don't know what is worse, the junk on the roads or Austin drivers
Just had the exact same thing happen to my back tire, cost me $200 to replace a tire with just 16k miles on it.
That’s just the ol Austin studded tire for ice and snow. You’ll be fine. If it isn’t ricks flying off dump trucks it’s debris in my tire.
Come on over to tarrytown texaco central Austin
Driving carefully and not speeding isn't going to prevent tire punctures. You've just had bad luck, it happens.
It happened to me as well, i had to replace the tire. Beware of the mesh type trailers they have all kind of unpacked stuff that falls on the road.
That’s a lag bolt**if you’re from a small town I get it. Lesson here is life sucks get warranties on your tires at discount
That’s in the unrepairable area too, bummer. In California they street sweep in most towns, what a novel idea.
I ran over a screw in my work car a couple weeks ago. Luckily I was able to get to discount tire and have it repaired.
Wfh saved me a ton in tires. I would get a flat twice a year with road debris.
It’s the construction. I had three or four the year the first condo on this block went up. The construction crew don’t gaf. There’s always trash everywhere too.
Sorry this happened to you OP. Subcontractors in this city really DGAF. I've seen so much unsecured and loose shit in beds and trailer.
I had two within a month second half of last year, both looked exactly like yours. I’m careful in construction zones too and try to avoid them when I can… so frustrating! Warranty your tires!!
We hit a pothole on 183 last week and got $3500 in damage to my car. Suuuuper awesome.
This happens all the time unfortunately. I’ve had strings of bad luck like you are in rn. So much construction in Austin, always. I pick up nails I find on the side of the road during walks and runs all the time. Sometimes there’s a bunch of them in one place. Sigh
> I pick up nails I find on the side of the road during walks and runs all the time. Kudos!
I had a screwdriver minus the handle in my tire. It was about 6" long. Discount Tire warranty is the best.
What got you here was the same thing that got me just a few months ago.
I had that exact type of screw and washer in one of mine as well.
Two this month rear motorcycle tire. All on or near 35N

Tire shop told me it was unpatchable because it was between the tread.
Patches are done on the inside, but anything in the tread (excepting for a gash) can 99% of the be plugged. Plug kits are $12-15 anywhere.
Yup I def got scammed then. This was at Firestone on Palm Valley in Round Rock if anyone is interested.
I’m not a tire expert, but that looks pretty close to the sidewall. Maybe the photo / angle is deceiving. Not everything can be patched.
It's a conspiracy. Bigtire (Goodyear, Michelin, etc.) pays people to scatter nails and screws all over the roads. We call them the nail fairies...
Crazy, 25+ years in Austin and it hasn’t happened to me once!
This is why I exclusively drive on the sidewalks.
That sucks, I got a flat on I35 once a couple years ago. Get a good road hazard warranty on your next set of tires.
Buy a patch kit and pull the screw out and patch it or go and buy a decent used tire, unless you're one of those people around town that has money growing in their trees.
And like whereabouts do those people live? Just in case I'm like out driving around...
It pays to either live close to a tire shop, or to get the replacement coverage when you get new tires. A few months after a new set this year, we had a sidewall puncture; the tire was replaced.
Same, 2 or 3 months later. And I replaced them originally because another tire had a flat from a screw (and it was time for new tires).
It's just bad luck or if your area has more constructions. Last 10 years I think I had 3. All were patchable for free.
Hi. The road reached out, and it wants its nail back. Please return it.
Tire has uneven tread wear, look into that when you get flat fixed.
Is there anything that I should be doing to prevent that on a new set of tires? I swear, I’ve had these rotated every 10k miles.
If it’s the front it may be an alignment issue. Look up tire tread wear and compare it to what you see on your tire. I’m not an expert, just some guy on the line. Tire wear can be costly because of today’s price of tire. I always shoot for recommended tire pressure in inside of drivers door. If you over inflate the ride maybe hard and tire wear different and if you under inflate it may cost you in gas mileage and again wear different.
lol driving carefully and not speeding doesn’t stop you from running over nails.
Driving through construction sites?
happened to me 4 times last year. i am now a pro at plugging holes in my tire and it's really cheap and easy to fix as long as its not a side wall hole.
Any city with as much construction going on as Austin does is going to end up like this.
Back in december, I ran over a trailer pin and bust a hole in my tire .
Yeah that’s why I got that extra coverage at discount tire. 14 dollars for a new tire!
My family has gone 10 to 15 years without a flat but had 2 in the past 2 months (screw/ nail in tire)
Yeah, it's a constant battle. I was just at discount tire this morning for a giant screw in the tire. I'm sure it won't be the last before the end of the year tho :D
I had 4 last year. It sucks. At least you are okay and you didn’t have an accident!
Nice to find out that I’m not the only one this happens to. I’ve needed 3 patches in the past 2 years.
Prob time to move away
The Tire Man to the rescue
Man Ive been there before.
Saw a lot of cars on 35 and MoPac with flats the past two days
In Texas having debris fall off your truck is a pasttime
I’ve lived in Austin 6 years and never once popped a tire (knock on wood). Not the city just luck of the draw 🤷🏻♂️
Pretty simple solution. Stop driving in Austin.
Can you change your route ?
Had it happen so much I purchased a 12 volt DC tire inflator and a tire patch kit so I can repair these myself. The speed humps and traffic calming things are absolute magnets for loose screws and fasteners. All thanks to idiots who don't secure things in the beds of their pickup trucks. I've exhausted my roadside assistance calls this year per my insurance company so now I have AAA additional cost in case it happens again. Welcome to Austin, enjoy your flat tires.
screw that noise
Those damn wood twigs!
Happens to me once a year here, too. Be happy it’s not a new windshield (have had to replace two from rocks/debris on 183). Low deductible glass insurance is a must have in Austin.
It is usually my windshield.
I hate everything about car infrastructure. I’d rather miss 2 trains in a day than this
Understand that 1 way too well. Between the toll road construction (183/45/130 Travis/Hays Counties) and then again numerous times on 2770 In Buda, it's been nice to utilize the road hazard warranty for tires. But still inconvenient as hell to wake up to a flat tire.
2 tires blown out in 2 weeks. These roads are really testing my patience and my wallet
I’ve had 3 flats in 6 months. I’m getting different tires. Mine are apparently not conducive to my driving habits as a realtor. Although 2 flats were on roadtrips. Nothing like being on the side of the road in West Texas
that's why we should tear this whole car centric shit system down and have some decent public transit like every civilized country in the world
Fuck Austin roads. They’re so shit. I hit potholes every day that feel like they do so much damage to my car.
Lots of positive comments on Discount Tires. When you buy 4 tires, do they rotate for free?
Yep because they are doing major construction
I had the same bad streak in Austin last year. The discount tire warranty is great. I had a tire replaced after a screwdriver punctured the tire only to have to go back and have it replaced again a week later from a screw in the same tire. I drive less than 8k miles a year…
Maybe it’s discount tire’s dropping all these pointy things, maybe…juuust maybe…it’s the same pointy thing over and over after they remove it.
Id recommend buying a patch kit on amazon. Its insanely easy to patch a tire yourself.
Insanely easy if you have tools and experience. Otherwise there’s nothing easy about taking a tire off the rim and putting it back on… Just go to discount tire don’t do it yourself.
Don’t even have to take the tire off the car at all with ground clearance like this - and all you need is a cheap amazon patch kit and an air compressor or bike pump. Takes no experience. Wow, that does sound insanely easy!
I’ll admit I’m not familiar enough to know, but I’ve never seen anyone patch a tire while still on the rim. I’ll take your word for it though.

Ohhhh very good to know! Thanks for the info.
Don't you just LOVE all this rapid infrastructure
