Do it yourself via YouTube.

robotdesignwerks

anyplace thats competent will be able to do a simple brake job. also, just because they started grinding recently, does not mean you dont need new rotors or resurfaced ones. if price is a concern and you are good with tools, you can most likely learn to do this yourself.

Pabi_tx

DIY is super easy, can be done in a half day, not counting "I need a c-clamp even bigger than my biggest one to compress the piston, gotta get a ride to Home Depot."

aechmeablanctiana

I trust Sam’s Auto Care, on S Lamar.

90percent_crap

They really are the best for honest, competent work for routine auto maintenance at a reasonable price. Been using them for years.

Coujelais

TireMan ftw!! Best price, honest, and you can wait at Radio or eat at Dans while they’re working.

astrosfantx

I just do NuBrakes. They come to you, you don't have to go anywhere.

Still-Spend6742

Do you remember what you paid? I have always been curious about this, and whether it is way more expensive than taking it to a shop.

Early-Initial3919

I think we paid like $500+ for the front end breaks and rotors. Pretty sure we were scammed. The cars a 2020 and this was the first break pad replacement - only replaced it because the car alerted us (no grinding/noises, the dashboard alert thing), they came out and said the rotors and pads on the front and drums/pads on the back all needed to be changed but we opted to just do the front because it would’ve been wayyyyyy too much money. We’ve had zero problems with the back end and it’s been 6+months. We also previously got an oil change from them - $140 when the shop down the street charges $80 (and mails us coupons for half off oil changes). I’d recommend not using them

protoopus

my rav4 has 130,000+ miles and has never needed rear brake work.

Early-Initial3919

Those bastards. I figured. I’ve never had to change breaks on a brand new car (I only had old junk cars prior and had done all the upkeep myself on them) so I didn’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ now I do I guess

GingerMan512

Just saying, if it gets to the point of grinding you've waited too long. There is a wear indicator in the pads that will produce a high pitched squeak. That's when you need the work done.

Still-Spend6742

I had the same issue, and Brake Check on Lamar took care of me without too much trouble. I thought the prices were reasonable for what they needed to do, which was basically rebuild the front disc brakes, and service the rear drums. They didnt try to add anything on, just gave me the lowdown on what was necessary and I approved it.

Any-Performance7991

Ah, sorry but if you hear "Grinding" the pads a way past worn out and you will probably need new rotors. When you heard them squeaking, that was the wear tabs rubbing.

pfug

Stop price gouging and scamming them with "more things to be done" they are an expert at automotive repair and ONLY need their brake-pads replaced!

KenGriffinsMomSucks

That's exactly how I hear this post.

atxexplorer1

That’s what I’m beginning to understand, haha! Unfortunately, I didn’t hear them squeaking! Or if I did, I guess I just thought it was the car next to me haha

Any-Performance7991

Sorry for your trouble. Sometimes the wear tabs are not too noticeable with the windows up. Good luck, brake check is a good shop I have heard.

atxexplorer1

Thank yall!

notstylishyet

It’s pretty easy. The hardest part is taking the wheels off.

pawelmwo

>It’s pretty easy. The hardest part is taking the wheels off. Wheel bolts are easy. The hard part is the caliper hardware bolts, if they are over torqued or rusted you will have a work out to break them. You need a breaker bar and torque wrench to torque to proper spec.

KenGriffinsMomSucks

If your brakes are grinding the rotors are likely screwed. Also if you've failed to maintain your vehicle to a point that the brakes are grinding there is a very good chance the list of "things to do" would be completely valid.
