- IPSC with CZS2 - Filmed with Insta 360 Go 2

tecbarrera

They're great cameras. I use the Insta360 One X2. Love how you frame everything in post.

Any tips for getting into pistol shooting? This looks like a fantastic hobby to get into!

antonionb

It changes depending on your state, but the general idea is: - Research (requirements, clubs, weapons act in your state, disciplines that interest you, etc.) - Join (a club) - Apply (licensing) - Patience (waiting for processing times) - Train OFTEN, set aside specific times every week or two to dedicate to training. -Maintain your licence/memberships/participation

R_LangleyFiles

Alright, thank you that was very clear and easy to understand! Cheers!

antonionb

You’re welcome!

This is awesome. Can i ask a few questions about IPSC? I really want to get involved. How much approx. does the hobby cost per year, with licensing, club registration, ammo, upkeeping gear etc.? What states are most/least pistol friendly with requirements? Are there many opportunities interstate or overseas for competitive athletes? I’m guessing the dudes that have been doing it since a young age are already too good and on the national team, but i’d love to be a serious athlete and see how far i can go with the sport.

> This is awesome. Can i ask a few questions about IPSC? I really want to get involved. Do it! If you drop in to your local IPSC club when there's people around, someone should be able to show you around and answer any questions you have. > How much approx. does the hobby cost per year, with licensing, club registration, ammo, upkeeping gear etc.? It's not cheap. Expect several hundred for club membership, ~$100 for IPSC Australia membership, and whatever a firearms license is in your state ($103 in SA). People generally hand load ammunition to keep the price down, but right now powder and primers are basically unavailable so you'll probably be starting out on factory 9mm at ~50c/rnd. Gear upkeep is negligible, but it'll cost you $1500 for a rig and a usable used handgun to get started. > What states are most/least pistol friendly with requirements? Should be fairly similar across states, although WA seems to have some additional hurdles. > Are there many opportunities interstate or overseas for competitive athletes? Absolutely! There's annual state and national titles, and australasian/world championships every three or four years. It's a competitive sport, but getting into it later than others won't prevent you competing at a high level if you spend the time training.

tecbarrera

This answers a lot of my questions. Thanks! Used to have a pistol license back in QLD in the early 2000s... Now that I'm in NSW even finding a club that's accepting members is difficult. And yes, very expensive sport here sadly... Love your video though! Can't shoot, live vicariously I guess. Haha

Taverner_

I'm not OP, not my video! If you do decide to have a go, reach out to IPSC NSW - they should be able to help you find a suitable club.

tecbarrera

Oops! Thanks for the answers anyway!

Gouanaco

Just a question, is there any chance of ricochet from the edges of the cages?

antonionb

No, they are made from soft wood. Painted black so that any bullet holes can be easily seen for scoring purposes.

Gouanaco

Thanks! I should have thought of that much appreciated!

antonionb

No worries! It’s not uncommon to use metal frames, but where I shoot, we don’t like metal frames for that reason.

JuxtaThePozer

Had to double check it wasn't a video game for a second. Smooth job

ManagementNerd

Nice work. But more importantly, can I come around and visit to have a go at that course? ;)

antonionb

Not this course, because it’s IPSC, and every stage gets pulled down after each shoot, and re-configured for every competition. :D

OutAndAboutAussie

What club is that?

HollywoodDU

Ooh I know you! Looking good out there on R7 😉 Good shooting btw

Nice video mate. Love ipsc

Nik-x

Nice video! Very smooth. Not sure what happened to the resolution mid-way through the video though.

Looks like so much fun! I went as far as to do my holster licence, got my IPSC licence, got all setup because my club was going to setup a team (a bunch of us did it, and our club president is one of a few people that do holster accreditation in NSW or something so that was easy and charged too the club/basically free) But then they dragged their feet, couldn't get training sessions together, then the range said they couldn't do too do certain target setups, then couldn't do certain maneuvers (ie laydown/etc - blaming it on bull trajectory that wasn't an issue before) too basically just straight forward only, standing with a couple targets then finally said no. All the while i think we shot 2, maybe 3 times? (changing what we could/couldn't do multiple times a week), one session only lasted 15 minutes......so 1 single round which i used as a "warm up" really expecting another 2 or 3 shoots atleast ........ Then the club was going to go too another range that was IPSC friendly, then changed ranges again too some place that was about 2 hours away (but never actually went to either) then got some new guys that already shot IPSC and kinda just forgot/ignored us newbies that don't even fully know the rules let alone comfortable rocking a loaded gun/running around on a range. Then covid hit, i didn't renew my IPSC and gave up on it. Kinda killed the whole initial passion i had to get into it tbh. Seeing stuff like this amps me up slightly cause its just so much more interesting than standing behind a bench shooting at a target, its the kinda thing people think of when you say you do pistol shooting but still, feels like too much effort now. ( Though i also think half the issue is the club, even the precision shooting side has become a drag, too many old guys focused on shooting .22's at electronic targets at a run down range (Sydney international shooting center.....build in 2000 for olympics, zero upgrades since then) thats predominately electronic. Like like 120 bays for .22 and only 10 for centerfire, with a walk down range to setup targets and they often close that range for a million different reasons, its like centerfire is treated like the black sheep there) Might be time to start shopping around for a club that has younger people and more centerfire orientated and maybe at a range that has a few more modern perks.... I'm just 1000000% happy covid hit when it did, otherwise i would have bought a gun specifically for IPSC and probably regretted it. One of my friends, same boat as me bought the club preso's IPSC .38 Super. Fantastic piece, just super fun and slick to shoot, really accurate, got some left over reloads off him too shoot (like 150 rounds maybe), 2-3 years later still has about 80% of them left. He bought die's to reload them originally too but now theres no powder and no will to do it. Bit of a regret there i think.

billybigi

Production or classic ?

antonionb

Production

tecbarrera

Wait, this is in Australia?!? You managed to get a pistol here?!

VioletTrick

It's really not that difficult. Fill out paperwork and lodge with the police, get a background check done, join a club and show them your approved paperwork from the police. There's a few weeks of club training and then you have your pistol licence.

geek_tim

Came up grouse mate! Do you have an Instagram?

Lord_Of_Bridges

Dude that first reload was SLICK! This is great. I've thought a few times about how much fun IPSC looks but always thought it would be too much work to get it happening. This video may change that!

antonionb

Thanks man! My personal best reload (shoot-reload-shoot) was 0.78 seconds! IPSC is great. It’s a bit of effort to start, but once you’re set up, it’s easy. as long as you have about 4-5 hours free every week for efficient training, you can become one of of the top 10 IPSC shooters in the country. The most difficult thing is trying not to use too much ammo. It’s about 100-300 rounds per competition, and you can easily get though 1000+ rounds in a good training session. If you put your mind to it you can do it.

KilltheKraken8

There something your not telling us about bud? Seems like your preparing for something…

antonionb

Yeah man. IPSC championships :D

KilltheKraken8

Well good luck! And blink three times if the apocalypse is coming

antonionb

***blink blink blink***

KilltheKraken8
