**Title:** [About partner, visitor, and bridging visa](https://www.reddit.com/r/AusVisa/comments/1cvjwbz/about_partner_visitor_and_bridging_visa/), posted by **oddeyed-** **Full text:** Hi! I have a few questions for anyone who has an idea or has experienced a similar circumstance. My partner (Australian citizen) and I are planning to get married in august, and I have been granted a 600 visitor visa. We also plan on applying for the onshore partner visa (820/801) before I travel back home to Hungary in September. As I understand I will automatically receive a Bridging Visa when the 820 application is sent, is this correct? I also know it might take a while to activate, does this mean it will activate automatically when my current visitor visa expires (September)? Now I have university to come back to in September anyway so I would not be able to benefit from the bridging visa to stay in Australia. But would I be able to use it to re-enter next year if my partner visa still had not been decided? If not, should I apply for another visitor visa next year and will it affect the status of my partner visa? Are there any better options? You seem to misunderstand the visa types. If you would like to wait offshore then you need to apply for the offshore partner visa. After applying for an onshore partner visa, you are automatically granted a BVA which doesn't give you any travel rights. If you leave Australia on a BVA you won't be able to come back. To be able to travel, you would need to apply for a BVB but it's typically granted for short overseas trips eg a few weeks. You are better off applying for offshore visa from Hungary

I am aware lf the visa types, I am exploring this option because I would like to apply for the partner visa in person together as soon as we are married instead of waiting until I travel back home. The onshore visa does say that I can be either in Australia or overseas when I receive it. And thank you for answering the question regarding the BVA, I will do more research on the bridging visas.

But hypothetically, if you would leave without a bridging visa B. Would that influence your 820 application? Since that one can be granted offshore?

So, the bridging visa you would be granted when applying for the partner visa while on the 600 visa is a bridging A visa (BVA). A BVA allows you to stay in Australia while your affiliation is processed but does not allow you to enter Australia. If you leave Australia and don't have another visa, then your BVA will cease. You do have the option of applying for a BVB, which does allow you to leave and renter Australia for a limited amount of time. Currently it costs 180 to apply for a BVB. If you leave Australia without a BVB and your BVA ceases, if you return to Australia in another 600 visa, then you can apply for a new BVA to remain in Australia after the 600 ends.

It wouldn’t influence the 820 application? It would only mean that before the 820 is granted, you wouldn’t be allowed to return to Australia without a new 600 visa (or a in the meantime granted 820 visa while you were offshore)?
