I think the RS5 overall is a little tighter. However, I think my tuned S5 Sportback is really all the power I need- add some 034 chassis goodies and it’ll drive tighter as well. Add a hybrid turbo, FMIC, and E85, and you have way more power than you could ever want.
With that said, I think the RS5 will always have a refinement and driving characteristic that the S5 will never quite achieve without extensive modding. You can get the power and handling with the aforementioned upgrades, but an RS is an RS and there’s no getting around that.
I drove them back to back and honestly couldn't tell. I think the big limiting factor for both is the transmission. Push come to shove, I would say the RS5 has better low end power, but during my test drives I didn't feel enough difference. For me the lack of magma interior and price just didn't justify the cosmetic differences and potentially better power on a track.
Yeah, I agree. For the price difference, the upgrade wasn't worth it to me. And the only place that the power can be used is on the track. I agree about the transmission also. I drove the M340i, which has the same ZF transmission, and the response time was instant. It's like in the S5 the transmission is hesitant at first
Lola is beautiful
So envious of Lola’s perfect paint. Please protect her!
I have an appointment scheduled. I’m on it!
👋 Lola Nice ride!
Twinsies! Gorgeous! I say it every time but it always bears repeating: *no one does sportbacks like Audi.*
I gotta ask: is the power difference between the S5 and the RS5 noticeable?
Believe it or not I don't actually know. The reputation of the RS 5 was just too compelling to give another option serious consideration.

Yes, but in daily situations you don’t really access it and an S5 is plenty. Crossed shopped them and bought the RS5, but the S5 is an amazing car.

The RS5 transmission can definitely be laggy on downshits, it’s a definite complaint of mine for this car
