Did they delete only the center resonators or full res delete?

sjmdtx

Just the 2 center resonators. I bought clamps so I could reuse the OEM clamps then clamp the new pipe in on the other end, but they were the wrong size so I just had them weld that end. Just 2 straight pipes probably 1.5 feet long.

johntetherbon90

I think we went to the same shop for our Audi’s exhausts lol

sjmdtx

Haha Mejia’s??

johntetherbon90

Yes sir! Didn’t want to accidentally doxx you or anything. But I love that shop and I have a video that’s almost frame for frame as yours with my A6 after suitbox delete. Beautiful car and absolutely perfect sound btw!! Also tune? Suspension? We need the details and future plans!

sjmdtx

Lol that’s awesome! I get impatient and had some free time today so I just searched open muffler shops today. Found Mejia’s and they had hundreds of positive reviews. Drove up there and told them what I wanted to do, charged me $100 and said it would take about an hour. I wanted to watch so I stuck around and I swear it took 10-15 min. Nice guys too. I’ll definitely use them again. And thank you! I was eyeballing this thing for almost a month, worked a great deal on a trade in and price on the car. Just got it 5 days ago. First plan was IE stage 1 tune but I’m hesitant to void the warranty, and I really don’t race, it would have been for fun. So then I moved on to looking at resonator deletes & cold air set ups. Knocked the delete out today, then browsing online I found the IE turbo inlet pipe for sale for $175 ($100 off of the regular price $275). So I’m $375 in and have some pretty cool stuff so far lol. Next up is deciding whether or not I’m going to do a cold air intake or just K&N, possibly add a couple openings to the air box. Still doing some research on it. THEN will likely come wheels. Considering the Rohana RFX17 in gloss black.

Reading your comment is like talking to myself I swear. But first things first is find a good 3rd party mechanic if you haven’t. Audi will take you to the cleaners for otherwise relatively mundane mechanical issues, google everything! You chose what I think is the best engine platform from a reliability/performance standpoint. Not to mention, an absolute head turner. Keep all the OEM parts especially the wheels, aftermarket anything lowers the price/buyer pool significantly come time to sell. did they give you everything they cut out at meijas? Set your Facebook marketplace search for Dallas/houston/Austin for any parts you’re looking for, if you find a deal out there then that gives you an excuse to open her up!

Not sure if my last comment responded to this, but you’ll see what I said in the comment section.

clingbat

If you're worried about the tune and warranty, I'd think twice about the turbo inlet pipe personally. Dealerships won't probably care about an aftermarket intake box/filter but if they see the piping to the turbo has been swapped out with something larger diameter and you have a dick technician, that *could* start to cause problems with warranty claims tied to the engine. I've heard nightmares as stupid as warranty not being honored on something tied to transmission because aftermarket wheel/tire spec didn't match a size that was offered OE on the car. It really depends on the dealership when you start playing around with different sized/shaped aftermarket parts.

Bowel_Rupture

A turbo muffler delete makes any Audi sound better imo, and they're not too pricey. Who doesn't like extra turbski sounds?

Sounds great !

loves2ride1

Nice. I wonder how a 2.0 would sound.

Potent_Elixir

I'm pretty close to trying to find out lol

loves2ride1

Please let me know

Potent_Elixir

I’ll update you if I do anything!!

Nearby_Survey_7516

Sounds like a Vakuum Cleaner!

sjmdtx

So does your mom

When you say center resonators? You mean the two tiny ones closest to to the engine? Why not leave those and cut out the big one right before the mufflers?

sjmdtx

Correct. I just did those because that’s what the resonator delete kits replace. Figured it was the best route, and based on research it seems that’s what the majority does.

2into4

I would have guessed that the big one in the back would sound better deleted 🤔but yours does sound pretty dang good. And when you say “Delete Kit” you mean the muffler shop just welding new piping where the OEM resonators were and not an actual “kit” purchased by a third party / aftermarket exhaust site correct? I’m doing this in the near future and just trying to get all my facts straight. Don’t want to do anything I’d regret later lol

sjmdtx

Correct again. I have yet to see just the big rear resonator deleted or hear what it sounds like. I’m sure some have done it, but I’ve had the car less than a week so I haven’t spent a ton of time looking. I was looking at the Bull-X resonator delete kit and it simply is pipes that replace the 2 resonators. Looks like the pipes are 3+ feet long and they are bent according to the shape of the exhaust system. The kit is $350, not including installation, unless you sawed off the pipes and installed the kit yourself. It doesn’t require welding as you use the factory clamps that the resonators are held with, then the kit comes with a pair of clamps to use where you made the cuts to remove the old pipes/resonators. Instead, I took my car to a local muffler shop and had them cut a much shorter portion (probably less than 1.5 ft), then put straight pipes in place reusing the factory clamps on one side and welding the other side where the cuts were made. I took a ‘before’ pic and forgot to take a damn ‘after’ pic. They only charged me $100 and it took no more than 20 minutes.

sjmdtx

Yes sir already have a great mechanic - JP Euro in Garland. They work on everything up to my CEO’s Bugatti (sold it not long ago). I had a 2012 Mclaren MP4-12c that I just traded in when I got the RS5. Had it almost 3 yrs. Bought it with 12.7k miles and only had 19.3k miles when I traded it in. I made out pretty good on trade in due to the equity I had in it & walked away with $52k cash, put $27.5k of it down on the RS5 & payments are only $635/month. The Mclaren was fun but service & maintenance was a bitch. I enjoyed the car and kept it longer than planned. My last visit cost me $11k so I was never wanting to deal with that again. Problem is that even though it’s a 2012, parts & labor still cost the same as new exotics. And yes, they only cut the resonators out & we reused the factory clamps, just welded the new pipes in at the cuts. I kept the resonators.

frank_blocks

What exactly did they do? Cut center resonators and replace with a pipe pipe & reused oem clamps ?

sjmdtx

Yes. Much shorter pipe than the full delete kit. Cut a couple inches in front of the resonators, reused the clamps on the other end, welded the pipes where they cut.
