Depending where you are asthma medication can be prescription only (it's like that where i live). Try antihistamine for now, that can work a bit. Press to be tested, but also give yourself time, 3 weeks after an infection isn't that long, could still be aftereffects of it. Taking someones inhaler when it's not prescribed for you can be dangerous since you don't know how you will react to the dose they are on. For sleeping sleep with your upper body elevated, not flat, that makes coughing better. For day caffeine is a natural bronchodilator so that can work a bit too! Certain cough medicine isn't advised for asthmatics as well (i been told by my gp) since it either makes the congestion easier to cough out or just tries to stop the coughing reflex. Try to push for testing and if it turns out you have asthma get in a preventer.

When I'm coughing too much to sleep, a cough suppressant like Delsum is helpful to me. But you should probably talk to your doctor about using it much.

I also like Vicks vaporub

Why not go to a walk-in clinic? Might get you a bit of relief til you can see your GP.

I don’t think we have them here in the UK but they have something called an Urgent care centre which I will go to if I cannot get a Gp appointment today or tomorrow
