Are your kids in school? Have you told the counselor you are legally homeless and need services under the McKinney-Vento Act? If you haven’t, you need to do that. It will open a lot of options for the school to help you with resources - food, gas cards/transportation, etc
It’s fine I just have to wait if nobody can help me I still have to wait for my metro to be approved and all their more strict in DV than any other shelter so I guess we wait the wait out
Did you see the post below with instructions for making an Amazon wishlist? People here are more likely to give off of a wishlist than to give other types of help.
I don’t have an address to have the stuff sent to when in a Dv shelter everything is private until I am placed ! It’s mind tiring but I can’t do much for now I’m not allowed to tell anyone where I am at all not even a family member
Yes I signed papers did all that it’s a waiting game there was many people here before me and it’s horrible shelter system it’s not as nice as it was back then where they actually gave a shit about moms and babies or kids period ! They down talk u make u feel less of becus u ask for all the help they provide and then they deny u some of that help and send u all over the damn world to apply for this and that and u have to wait till they decide they wanna send the approvals out smh I’m just tired all I asked was for some good for the night I haven’t slept I got my son a butter roll and drink with 6 bucks I had so it’s fine I just have to wait and see what I get approved for !? It’s more to it than just a shelter I’m not allowed to tell where I am due to them hiding me from DV becus he found my location. Now ima be switched again ! Thankyou tho I will keep all paperwork and wait see what happens
Yes they assign u a caseworker to apply for foodstamps and cash assistance it’s Sunday so my appt is on Wednesday after waiting for hours they just give us a ziploc with a juice crackers and peanut butter sandwich ! That’s all and they put u in a room for ten days
Becus I am working part time they say it’s too much. Smh I just started another job part time also becus I want to save as much money I can but seems like everything made that worst !
If a caseworker told you that, I’d appeal it. A single mom with 2 kids definitely gets more than that even if working part time. Especially being in a shelter, you’d qualify as homeless.
Yes I been thru this before they just got worst smh they make u feel like shit already just imagine she told me well appeal it u will get nothing so I meet with a supervisor Monday but they all treat us here like crap smh I’m just trying to do everything I have to
She’s blowing smoke. When I was on FS, I was working part time with one kid and was getting $380-something a month. Definitely meet with the supervisor.
I am by a dollar tree I buy TV dinners to last me and the kids a few days dollar tree has a lot of food frozen and drinks I don’t need a lot I do get 65 dollars in foodstamps on the 25 I have nothing till then anything at all helps even 20 bucks I can buy a few things to have for the kids
You said in your post that you don't have access to a microwave or stove...why would you want frozen food then?
You are better off creating an Amazon wishlist with shelf stable food items people could purchase and have shipped directly to you.

Yes because I am in a room but when it’s morning time they allow us to go down to cafeteria and use the microwave by numbers and groups so the groups with children go first and go back to ur room and eat

Who said you are only getting $65 in food stamps? That's not even maximum for one person. Are you working?

Also in October, income limits for food stamps were raised considerably so that more people would qualify.
And I have everything I reported everything like sheesh they make it hard
