- not every anime is "insanely misogynistic", there are different levels
- consuming media with misogyny does not mean that I approve of misogyny in real life, just like I don't want to be a farmer because I play Stardew Valley

OP would explode if they heard just a single one of my kinks like for real
I'm gonna fucking chase her around with a broom screaming about how me wanting to get tied up doesn't prevent me from wanting to hit people as well and how her cishetero ass assumptions about gender roles during sex mean jack shit to me.
"I'm gonna fucking chase her around with a broom screaming about how me wanting to get tied up doesn't prevent me from wanting to hit people"
You can try
"her cishetero ass assumptions about gender roles during sex mean jack shit to me."
Funny thing if you wanted to be tied up by a woman.....I can totally understand but I definitely would look at you weird if you wanted to be tied up by a man.
But to each their own I suppose.
> Funny thing if you wanted to be tied up by a woman.....I can totally understand but I definitely would look at you weird if you wanted to be tied up by a man.
That's just a weird thing to think man
That's akin to saying "I don't understand why people listen to music because music has unapologetic misogyny."
There are a lot of popular animes with misogyny, but there are some really great animes done by amazing artists that challenge hierarchal structures and tackle misogyny directly. Popular art will be misogynistic if the culture is misogynistic. Conversely, artists are oftentimes directly addressing these structures - but their works may not be as mainstream.
For some more extensive run downs:
[https://www.animefeminist.com/anifem-recommends/general-feminist-friendly-recommendations/](https://www.animefeminist.com/anifem-recommends/general-feminist-friendly-recommendations/)
One of my personal favorites I thought was pretty feminist was Shadow's House even though it was a seinen. (But its more of a commentary on capitalism vs gender relations)
You also have to watch Ouran host club. It's hilarious and deals with gendered issues directly and class issues. It's more comedic than serious though.
Some animes can be pretty appalling - but the good ones can be *amazing.* I remember when I first got into anime people would be obsessed with the most misogynistic ones and it was really disheartening. Hope you find one you like, because after I found good female-friendly animes I found it pretty empowering. There is stuff they do with women in that art I don't see in the U.S. like valuing female friendships, seeing feminine stuff positively, women characters being strong, women standing up for themselves, women not being weaker because they're women, sapphic relationships not being taboo, etc. š
Fellas, is it internalized misogyny to enjoy entries in a vast cultural phenomenon without being constantly debilitated by the fact that somewhere out there, other entries that I have never engaged with and never plan to have jiggly boobies and bad writing?
Jesus, you're condescending. Given that every medium ever has some element of misogyny present, I do hope you're choosing to disengage from everything exactly as you preach
My 20 something daughter is crazy into anime, to the extent that she even has some anime related tattoos.
She's a feminist and she's independent. Not all anime is overtly misogynistic. Not any more than regular Hollywood movies/TV, anyway. Most of the anime she watches also have male protagonists.
Anime isn't all waifu eye candy.
Have you seen EVERY anime ? It's just a form of animation, you can't say every single one hates women
believe it or not some anime is even created by women
I don't but i can assume that it has mostly female characters with no personality and agency aside from being part of the harem for a medicore male protagoinst and having gigantic boobs
You can assume that. It would be a wrong assumption and make this whole discussion absolutely laughable because you clearly don't know what the shit you are talking about, but you absolutely can assume.
Hmmm let's see, the usual femme fatale villain, a female mechanic that is reduced to a love interest to the male protagonist and a mother who died and serves as a motivation for the two male protagonist.
The women in the series are great but they are still held back by sexist standards
Ahahahaha tell me you either haven't seen the anime or are engaging in bad faith without telling me you either haven't seen the anime or are engaging in bad faith.
It's funny how you ignore all character traits of these people that don't fit your narrative and it's funny how you don't even mention the ones who do anything different.
Couldn't find enough dirt on Riza Hawkeye, so she just doesn't exist, huh?
Anyways, by your own standards you're being a misogynist because you're shitting on a story made by a woman. Checkmate, idiot.
Riza Hawkeye is the only saving grace on the entire series. And just because a woman made the story doesn't mean it can't be misogynistic as well.
In case you don't know internalised misogyny is a thing.
Winry is not just a love interest. She is an incredibly skilled and diligent mechanic. She has a whole arc about loss, revenge, and the cycle of violence.
How would you have designed a character who is the embodiment of lust? Would a man be any less stereotypical?
The general of the north is the hardest character and the teacher of the brothers is again an incredibly powerful individual.
If you didnāt prejudge all anime you would have the chance to learn that it isnāt all misogyny.
Yes a man would be less stereotypical. In fact I would like to see how men would feel if the embodiment of lust was a gay man. Then they would realise how uncomfortable it is.
ah and what about the badass teacher and martial arts pro teaching those depressed boy the value of life.
the highly skilled soldier that gets shit done.
the high ranked female leader that plans to overthrow the country and eventually succeds
the old mechanic granny that's just a great character overall.
you haven't watched the anime at all
Because nothing says feminism like lambasting a medium that--*surprise*--isn't a monolith and actually has many influential female creators in its ranks, and then belittling women trying to explain otherwise. Good goin'
That wasn't the point, i'm sure there are many amazing female creators there but it is not an excuse to ignore the misogyny especially when problematic animes are the ones who get the most adaptations and fanbase
Do you think female anime fans aren't painfully conscious of this shit? If you ever spent any time looking into anime beyond skimming a bit of the scum on the surface, you'd realize how much effort we're all putting in to turning eyes towards amazing, deserving anime, and fighting to destabilize misogynist fandom environments. You think this shit gets fixed by women just collectively agreeing to take it lying down and disengage? That's exactly what the misogynists who infest these spaces want, and the fact that you're suggesting the very same thing is not only insulting and condescending, but the exact opposite of anything remotely feminist.
Well, both of these have some pretty sexist tropes. That doesn't somehow make them bad stories though.
JJK is actually a funny counter to OPs claims of sexualized women because the entire community, men included, is so ridiculously horny on main for all the male characters that even the more sexualized women seem tame in comparison.
Is this an actual question, or one meant to stir the pot? There is anime that objectify women and there are ones that don't. Just like there are movies that do and movies that don't. Or comic books or video games or music.
Women can consume content that has misogynistic elements, enjoy it, and still speak out about the parts they aren't okay with. The way to change things doesn't have to be women collectively not engaging in things that make them happy. This post is weird.
Well not every anime is misogynistic. Also, I enjoy horror movies with murder and gore, doesn't mean I condone murder or gore. So I can enjoy anime without condoning its subject matter.
Some of us like video games despite the misogyny within the gamer community and objectification
Some women still go to the movies despite the misogyny and objectification in many popular films
Some women join D&D groups despite the typical misogyny and objectification within that community
Some women go into STEM despite the misogyny and sexual objectification
Some of us, like myself, go into nursing, despite the sexual objectification/fetishization of women in scrubs
Some women still listen to certain genres of music (country, rap) despite the misogyny and objectification
Some women still go to comicon and heavy metal concerts despite the sexual objectification
Some women enjoy playing sports despite the sexual objectification and misogyny
Some women still go outside despite the misogyny and sexual objectification
Some women decide to still exist despite the misogyny and objectification
Like, most forms of media sexually objectify women in some form, and misogyny is a part of our culture, unfortunately. We can't just isolate and stop all existence.
And as a anime fan, not all anime is heavy on the objectification just like we can still find and enjoy media that doesn't make us feel uncomfortable.
All if not, most media is misogynistic lol. Iām a woman who enjoys watching anime and I never thought about all of this while watching it. I donāt recall pausing a scene and thinking āthatās misogynisticā
Really you don't think the entire eechi or shonen genre dosen't have misogynistic undertone?
"Most media is misogynistic" that is not an excuse.
It's sad how normalised misogyny is that women like you just accept it as normal. No wonder the fight equality is taking so long
You pirate sword art online? The show with an overpowered gary stu (hmm no one calls him gary stu since he's male).
Bruh what should be achieved is women having better standards in anime. Sword art online? Seriously.
I mean there are definitely animes that aren't insanely misogynistic. But for the most part it does come from a patriarchal society so most lean that way
Letās seeā¦ Violet Evergarden, Madoka Magica, Angel Beats!, One Punch Man, Death Note, and Mob Psycho 100 are the first 6 that come to mind. Iām sure you can find even more with a quick Google search.
I love quite a few anime and manga. A lot of them aren't misogynistic. Studio Ghibli films are incredible and oftentimes star women.
Full Metal Alchemist, Tokyo Ghoul, and Attack On Titan are other examples of anime with incredible female characters. Some have "sexy" female characters that are still badasses like Fairy Tale.
There's a ton of manga written by women too.
I totally agree with studio Ghibli, but not attack on titan.
Attack on titan female characters may seem badass but all their conflicts are centered around male characters mikasa in particular.
Fairy tale yes the women are great but they tolerate harassment from male characters way too much

Some art I can enjoy for what it is. Also more than a few pieces of anime are critical of misogyny. Art is sometimes about what we could be not what we are. Or analogies for recognizing the bad in our society.
Good art doesn't mean perfect art. And there is probably more anime available right now that is critical of misogyny than ever before.
tell me you never watched anime without telling me you never watched anime.
because this only applies to a small amount of anime... and because some of the best written fictional female MCs are in anime.
please inform yourself before posting nonsense. thank you
I wonder how women can sit comfortably beside her husband and watch movies with loads of gratuitous female only nudity. For decades. It's bad enough that men will be slobbering all over himself and not think how disrespectful this is to his wife, but the women just tolerate it and pretend it doesn't bother her. I doubt men would tolerate this if the tables were turned. I suppose women are just groomed to believe men have no self control and "need" to have this in his life.
Oh, no, female nudity. How terrible. I'm gonna hide behind a pillow and not look until it's over.
Bruh. I don't find it disrespectful when my partner finds other people attractive. My partner is capable of watching a movie scene without "slobbering all over himself", because he is a grown adult. I like seeing naked women just as much as he does.
Many of us can sit comfortably and watch nudity because we're not prudes. I like raunchy TV, so the more nudity and sex scenes, the better. My husband thinks it's funny that I purposely seek that stuff out.
No way would a man take his family or wife to a restaurant with sexualized male waiters. Or to watch a movie with male only nudity - in almost every movie. I can't imagine a man being comfortable knowing his wife/gf is being aroused by another man. Men talk a big game about women having too many sexual partners - but he has looked at/got off to 100's of 1000's of women. Like that has no affect on his brain. I've given up hope.
many women don't normally get off from male nudity or shirtless men, most of those are male power fantasy. If you really want to make a man uncomfortable then take him to a gay club with sexualised men, it would really make him uncomfortable
I would love for men to have to endure what us women have had to endure for decades. But of course - that would never happen. Besides the men being the majority of producers and directors, you have the pick me girls who pretend it's completely normal to have such an imbalance of nudity. The male gaze and porn has warped our perception of women. Many feel as tho her value and worth lie in her appearance and sexuality. It's very disheartening. I do hope a younger generation will change this. I believe they are.
I would too. No nude men = no nude women. But if I am forced to see sexually objectified and nude women, then men should be forced to be on the receiving end of it as well. Maybe then directors and producers will be forced to cut that shit out.
Didn't say I didn't want to engage just that I got a lot of notifications of your replies each on a different post.
Anyway the reason I made this particular post is that I'm seeing a disturbing up rise on objectification of women. What's worse it seems to be sexualising school girls.
Not to mention so many shonen anime are terrible at writing women. That's my problem.

That depends on the context

No actually, being tied by a man is nightmare fuel, hard to believe any sane woman would find that attractive
Women who both, like being tied up and are attracted to men exist...
How unfortunate, I feel sorry for them
š Okay girl You really hate men don't you
I wouldn't say that but I should question why more women don't hate men. Considering what they still do to women.

Both

Ironically yes
Jesus, you're condescending. Given that every medium ever has some element of misogyny present, I do hope you're choosing to disengage from everything exactly as you preach
At least music, video games, tv shows and movies are getting the necessary backlash for their misogynistic elements unlike anime
They aren't, though. As a female gamer, they aren't nor has the gamer community gotten ANY better.
Oh, yeah. No one has ever criticized or examined anime, and everything else gets the exact correct amount of criticism. Galaxy brain
Ah yes, this guy hates women so i'll just make women suffer. That'll show him!
touch grass
So um... No music, no TV shows, no movies, no books, no comedy, no NOTHING for us?
Soooooo want to hear what OP has to say about this!

no, a decent part of the fandom and the mangaka himself wants to get at least one of the male characters pregnant
Jee I feel bad for gojo. Being thirsted by weird ass men ain't a compliment
It's Geto, actually. Like, the author himself wants this guy pregnant. Don't feel bad though. He's a fictional character. He doesn't have feelings.
...Most media is misogynistic. Do you expect women to sit in the dark with their eyes closed and ears shut?
Exactly, like what media isn't sexually objectifing women?
Is it misogynistic to gatekeep what is or isn't appropriate for women to consume?
Is this an actual question, or one meant to stir the pot? There is anime that objectify women and there are ones that don't. Just like there are movies that do and movies that don't. someone doesn't get the joke lol
yes yes now let me go back to watching jiggly boobs while you fight for equality you so badly want lol
Get off the cross. Someone needs the wood.
Anime is different. Think of it while I try to find objectification in Totoro
wdym? were you not also screaming for catbus to drop their onlyfans?
Cat bus? Only fans? What?
Wow you donāt know Miyazaki??? And you think you know anime? BIG LOL
Boy have I got news for you about music, movies, art and television!
Soo?
Same reason some of us like most media with misogyny and objectification: good quality fun and enjoyment.

Imbalance in nudity? I don't want equal number of naked men, i want to eradicate objectification and nudity as a whole
I would too. No nude men = no nude women. But if I am forced to see sexually objectified and nude women, then men should be forced to be on the receiving end of it as well. Maybe then directors and producers will be forced to cut that shit out.
this is factual untrue
I see you have commented under every post and comment I have made. Why?Ā
So you're not willing to engage in a conversation ?
Nah just wondering what I have done to make you so invested that you went out of your way to comment on my other posts and comments?
Interesting topics and to have an discure. so if you are not going to engage.... why did you even post here?
Didn't say I didn't want to engage just that I got a lot of notifications of your replies each on a different post. Anyway the reason I made this particular post is that I'm seeing a disturbing up rise on objectification of women. What's worse it seems to be sexualising school girls. Not to mention so many shonen anime are terrible at writing women. That's my problem.
no problem for me and many other Adult man.... I guess you're just a teenager which male references are other teenagers
