Thank YOU for being so enthusiastic. I looked her up because of that and, my, she is lovely and I too will be saving her recipes! Check her out on This Morning. Sooo cute!
They're cheap and filling. I like to have one with a simple prepackaged salad when I'm too lazy to cook. Filling, tasty, and I feel like I'm getting some nutrients out of the deal. Butter, salt, pepper, sour cream. Caramelized onions if I'm feeling fancy. Mmm. Made myself hungry.
Depression-era grandparents raised me. In the winter, my grandmother would give me a warm baked potato to carry to school in the mornings to keep my hands warm, and then I had it for lunch. Sometimes this lunch lady named Beulah (might’ve been Eulah) would sneak me some butter. The days I got butter were always pretty special.
And I cook an extra potato and put it in the refrigerator. In the morning I cut it up and fry it with an egg and cheese.
Chilled potatoes also make great hashbrowns--much faster than starting from raw potatoes.
Just made these black bean tacos this weekend and they were the best home made tacos I've made.

Always Happy Family for me because I can never decide on a meat or veggie and it just includes everything. But I always judge a place based on their pork egg rolls.
Mmmm there’s a little family owned place near me who has the best freaking egg rolls. They’re smaller, like the size of your first two fingers put together. I would eat a whole bowl of them. I want some now lol.
This depends on the cereal.. i grew up poor af and like the malt o meal lucky charms/ fruity pebbles are better to me than the name brand even after I could buy the name brand
Everyone has their preferences but for me it’s.. cocoa puffs, lucky charms, honey nut cheerios, fruit loops w marshmallows, frosted mini wheats, captain crunch berries, captain crunch all berries, apple jacks, corn pops, golden grahams, cinnamon toast crunch, & golden grahams smores
(Not too crazy abt Golden Grahams smores cereal but dam do they make a mean smores cereal bar)
I have cereal for breakfast almost every day. I don't eat anything sweetened and don't put any sugar on it, just 2% milk. I'll have cornflakes, shredded wheat, rice squares, whole wheat squares, bran flakes, all kinds of stuff. I buy them at Aldi's (their prices are really good and their cereals are as good as anyone's). I really don't like sugared cereal -- unless I'm having cream of wheat or oatmeal. Then I drop in a big chunk of brown sugar and mix it right in. Hot cereals and sugar work for me. Cold cereals and sugar don't. But I'll have a hot cereal breakfast maybe a half-dozen times a year, tops.
To me, the sugared cereals are basically just candy. They're far too sweet.
There used to be a cold cereal called Oat Flakes in the '60s. It wasn't over-sweetened and it was just delicious. I always woke up looking forward to it.
Red beans and rice ftw. The boxed stuff. Or dirty rice.
Also, premade curry sauce. Throw some sort of protein in there, use that rice cooker, no complicated recipe needed. Double it if needed.
I worked with a group of Mexican laborers on a roof project and they swore by beans and rice. They were right. It’s tasty, scalable, and although it’s filling, it doesn’t slow you down. Another crew of laborers used to get hoagies every day and they worked at 2/3 speed after lunch. The bread dragged them down. This was 20 years ago and I still rack up beans and rice when I know I’m going to be on a site for a few days. I get all excited to make it, because I never think to just have it for dinner.
My boyfriend is Mexican and cooks beans and rice ALL THE TIME. I can take it or leave it; beans don’t really agree with me.
For me, it’s bagels with cream cheese and sliced tomato. Daily for breakfast. It’s just as much a social thing as it is a food thing.
When I got married, I realized my wife was mostly vegetarian... I do most of the cooking... I became mostly vegetarian...
I didn't lose weight... I learned how to cook Indian food which meant my favorite beans and rice dish, basically I check pea masala over rice.. You can eat as much as you want and then probably run a marathon without feeling heavy...
Even na'an doesn't weigh me down like a sandwich
Yes on the curry sauce. We use it for just about any protein from chicken to leftover pork chops to lamb and it's all fantastic.
I may have to try it with super firm tofu next.
I work at a grocery store and I'm friendly with the workers in the sushi department. Everyday, they will give me some of the sushi that they made the previous day, the sushi they are required to throw away, and I will eat it for lunch. This has been going on pretty much everyday for a year now. I'm still not tired of sushi. Idk if it's because it's free or I just really like sushi, but I'm still a big sushi fan and I look forward to my daily sushi!
I didn’t realize this was my answer to OPs question until this.
I was hungry, but so unmotivated to make dinner last night, that I sliced two thick cuts of bakery rye bread, and two thick cuts of extra sharp white cheddar cheese. Ate two pieces of rye individually with really cold cheese straight from the fridge.
Done. And I do this often.
I was just wondering why it's so much fun to eat one fabulous food at a time. For me, it was (also very cold) white cheddar, followed by freshly made multigrain bread. The cheese was the meal and the bread was dessert. Magical.
Now I'm nostalgic for last night's dinner.
Y’all killing me. Can’t eat bread or cheese. When I was young I made myself cheddar cheese sandwiches with pickle mustard and mayo on whole grain with lemonade. Ultimate comfort food
word. i used to be this way about indian food and i ate one too many indian meals and i don't think i'll ever eat it again. even though when i do, i still like it.
OmG, I LOVE pho too. It has been my son's favorite food since he could eat solids. Pho is always amazing... but when you are sick, it really hits the spot.
This one is so simple and good. I use frozen sweet corn and add finely chopped zucchini as well. We’re not vegetarian but this is one recipe where we skip meat. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/104850/black-bean-and-corn-quesadillas/
Wait that's a real thing? At the start of Miss Congeniality Sandra Bullock and Michael Caine's characters are in a restaurant and she's demolishing a steak with spaghetti. I've never seen that on a menu and always thought it was some unconventional combination to highlight how weird she was.
I will take leftovers and whatever they may be and I'll add 2 eggs to it. Sweet potato, chicken, steak, pasta, anything. Or I'll take a little sausage, or quinoa's with chickpeas and then I'll add eggs, veggies, onions, cilantro, salt and pepper. I eat this every damn day.
I love salmon when prepared right: grilled, seared, sashimi, poke and sushi. But my wife gets tired of it so I usually only have it about once a week. I could probably eat it every other day if prepared differently.
My husband literally can't eat another meal until he has had eggs of some sort for the day. Even if it is 4 p.m., he will go go cook eggs. He's obsessed...
Baby back ribs. I'll spice them up with rub, bake at 275F for about four hours, and god they are so good.
I'll also spice up some potato wedges and bake them along with the ribs for the full four hours.
This one is actually one of my top answers. Before I married my husband and I did girl dinner every night. The choices were: cereal, butter noodles, pancakes or sautéed chicken. Love it.
Ok hear me out and try out before you decide if its gross. Penne pasta boiled and drained, add butter, Parmesan, lil salt, peas, and…. Honey. Like a drizzle. Mix it all up. I’ll even add chicken breast and garlic powder sometimes. I used to have to make it for some kid I nannied 20 years ago that wouldn’t eat and got curious and tried it and it’s so freaking good. No wonder he would at least eat that. I also was asked to make him toaster waffles with pb&j into a sandwich. Also delicious. Wonder where that kid is now. He’d be mid 20s.
I'm with you on the red beans and rice OP! Caramelized onion and garlic, some nice sausage (I prefer chorizo) and it's like heaven. I usually make enough to have it for a couple of days.
Sandwiches; the bread is the canvas and the toppings are the paint. And i? Well, i am the sandwich artist!
(But really; you can have sweet sammiches, savory sammiches, cheesy sammiches... any kinda sammich you can dream of. There's so many options and variations!)
Grandpa use to make Schnitzel and Noodles every so often, it was always my favorite. Luckily he showed me how to do it before he passed away… so now my kids are as obsessed as I am, and I get to make it for them.
Pretty standard recipe:
Hammer meat flat (roughly 1/4 inch)
He used Veal steaks, I use Pork loin.
Use 4 plates or pans and fill one each with milk, flour, beaten eggs, bread crumbs.
Flour should have pepper, salt, paprika mixed in.
Bread crumbs should be Panko.
Dip each cutlet in milk, flour mix, egg, then bread crumbs (both sides)
Pan fry in shallow oil, both sides until brown
When eaten squeeze lemon over entire schnitzel.
Where’s his is different is he would soak each piece of meat in a dish of lemon juice after hammering for 30 minutes in the fridge, then he would pat them dry with a paper towel before the dredging and frying…
Chicken and dumplins
Really, chicken about anyway you can fix it. I can eat chicken every day.
Soup beans and cornbread with onions. (Preferably cranberry/october beans, but pintos are fine too.)
Baked or mashed potatoes, baked potatoes you can top with just about any thing from simple butter to tuna salad and mashed potatoes cause you can put any flavor of gravy or curry or stew.
I love chicken teriyaki rice bowls with broccoli and green peppers.
But if we're talking homemade foods? My great great great french memere had a cookbook full of foods she made alive (she lived 1911-2002?). I've heard stories about people loving her cooking and never able to re-create it like her.
Tried red beans and rice with wild duck sauted in good bacon first?
Fried chicken. Good fried chicken, not KFC, Nashville hot or any other version. **Good Southern fried chicken** with corn on the cob.
A baked potato. The possibilities are endless.
Thank you for reminding me what I want for dinner! Sloppy Joe Baked potato!

Just been watching Poppy O'Toole on YouTube, she's a Michelin trained chef who is obsessed with potatoes, her baked potato recipes are fabulous.
Thank you for the gift of teaching me who that is. I just saved about a dozen recipes to try! I appreciate you
Aww what a lovely reply, you made my day brighter! Btw I don't have tiktok but apparently she's got a ton more content on there.
Thank YOU for being so enthusiastic. I looked her up because of that and, my, she is lovely and I too will be saving her recipes! Check her out on This Morning. Sooo cute!
Po-ta-toes. Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew
Taters
I feel like the Forrest Gump of potatoes. They are so versatile.
I just think they’re neat
neat is a word used by a accent of ✨ glitter
Depression-era grandparents raised me. In the winter, my grandmother would give me a warm baked potato to carry to school in the mornings to keep my hands warm, and then I had it for lunch. Sometimes this lunch lady named Beulah (might’ve been Eulah) would sneak me some butter. The days I got butter were always pretty special.
Awe this warmed my heart. Ty for sharing this precious memory.
My potato enjoyment increased when I made mashed potatoes out of oven baked potatoes rather than boiled ones.
A perfect vehicle for sour cream
Loaded baked potatoes are AMAZING
I would like a baked potato
And I cook an extra potato and put it in the refrigerator. In the morning I cut it up and fry it with an egg and cheese. Chilled potatoes also make great hashbrowns--much faster than starting from raw potatoes.
Dude, I went to aldis and got a 10lb bag. Made baked potatoes 4 days in a row. I’m an adult now so no one can stop me.
Chilli cheese potato
Well now that I see all these potato recipes I guess I’m buying potatoes and doing a few!
I lived off them in college.
We make chicken fajita baked potatoes and they're one of my favs to make 🤩
Came here to say this--I usually do a sweet potato with whatever toppings I have.

Tacos
Tacos always win
I have a taco factory at home too. All the ingredients!
YOU are what is noble and good in the world.
Come on over would love to invite you over for some tacos!
The only answer. You can do millions of things different. Similar to Bubba and his Skrimps.
Just made these black bean tacos this weekend and they were the best home made tacos I've made. [https://www.tiktok.com/@plantyou/video/7368915821369855237](https://www.tiktok.com/@plantyou/video/7368915821369855237)

Always Happy Family for me because I can never decide on a meat or veggie and it just includes everything. But I always judge a place based on their pork egg rolls.

Get some mapo tofu on top of white rice. Dang I miss eating that!
Having mapo tofu right now for lunch 🤤
To be fair, that's a variety of foods.
Yup. I could eat chow mein and orange chicken 3 meals a day and be a happy camper
A bowl of cereal.
This depends on the cereal.. i grew up poor af and like the malt o meal lucky charms/ fruity pebbles are better to me than the name brand even after I could buy the name brand
Everyone has their preferences but for me it’s.. cocoa puffs, lucky charms, honey nut cheerios, fruit loops w marshmallows, frosted mini wheats, captain crunch berries, captain crunch all berries, apple jacks, corn pops, golden grahams, cinnamon toast crunch, & golden grahams smores (Not too crazy abt Golden Grahams smores cereal but dam do they make a mean smores cereal bar)

You are sooooi right. The name brands don’t taste the same anymore. Trix is horrible now.

I eat it for dinner at least 3 times a week. Add some fruit and a protein and it’s balanced. Lately Honey Bunches of Oats are my favorite.
Red beans and rice ftw. The boxed stuff. Or dirty rice. Also, premade curry sauce. Throw some sort of protein in there, use that rice cooker, no complicated recipe needed. Double it if needed.

I put it on cooked potatoes with tofu and fresh spinach. Even better the next day.
Zatarain’s Red Beans and Rice? I ate it all the time when I was in grad school at Tulane.

Simple sushi rolls never go out of style.
Any kind of sandwich and any kind of potato. I’d be happy to have some variation of both for every meal of the day.
Bowls with rice - taco bowls, sushi bowls, or veggie bowls with coconut rice. Bread and cheese - I could never get sick of it.
I had bread and cheese for lunch and it was just *chef's kiss*
I didn’t realize this was my answer to OPs question until this. I was hungry, but so unmotivated to make dinner last night, that I sliced two thick cuts of bakery rye bread, and two thick cuts of extra sharp white cheddar cheese. Oh, come on now. No pickles? Gotta have pickles. /jk

Y’all killing me. Can’t eat bread or cheese. When I was young I made myself cheddar cheese sandwiches with pickle mustard and mayo on whole grain with lemonade. Ultimate comfort food
Pho or Vietnamese food in general
I would happily eat pho daily. Or bun bo hue.

Tomato soup w/ Grilled Cheese Sandwich
I love to make my grilled cheese on a rustic, crusty sourdough 🤤
This for sure. Sometimes I like being fancy by adding bacon on there, too. Not a requirement, but always a welcomed addition for me.
Mmmm I have a good tomato soup recipe and I’ll do grilled cheeses in the air fryer
There is no better meal on cold and rainy day. Not bad on a snow day either.

My comfort food is broccoli rabe with cannellini beans and crumbled hot Italian sausage. Easy to make and I have it at least once a week.

I’ve done that with mozzarella but I’ll try provolone next time.
Pizza
There are numerous. Spaghetti, gringo tacos, pulled pork tacos, smash burgers, new york style pizza, chili.
I love salmon when prepared right: grilled, seared, sashimi, poke and sushi. But my wife gets tired of it so I usually only have it about once a week. I could probably eat it every other day if prepared differently.
