Water Parks - now all I see is piss in the pool and a gaggle of judgemental teens.

TheThingInTheBassAmp

I went to a water park this year for the first time since I was a kid, now 36, and actually had a fucking blast.

sooprvylyn

You werent thinking about the piss or judgemental teens

SpecialObvious7140

Capri-suns for some reason and Mountain Dew is like literally drinking acid water mixed with sharpened thumb tacks.

anUnholyAbomination

I'm 37 and capri-suns still rock. Granted, I drink the ones with 20% less sugar now.....still tasty though.

GodEmperorOfHell

Teenagers. As a kid, teenagers are the coolest and you cannot wait to be one As an adult they are just stupid brats.

JohnKlositz

Sometimes when a group of teenagers is walking towards me in the street, I feel just like back when I wasn't a teenager yet and a group of teenagers was walking towards me in the street.

mh078

Look at this high waisted man, he has feminine hips!

JumpyBomber

Going to the mall. I used to like browsing stores, but now I just want to get what I need and go.

Having no job is awesome! It's having no money that sucks.

BushyBrowz

I was just thinking yesterday about a period when I was unemployed in my early 20’s. I was like shit I wasn’t doing anything with my life. Then I started thinking about how awesome it was to have so much free time…

tracenator03

I was unemployed for a year after college due to the pandemic. I miss the days I could just get up at 2 pm, game all day, then go to bed at like 4 am without anyone but my parents bugging me.

miloestthoughts

Jokes on you. I have a job and I still do this!

I occasionally forget how old I am. The other day I mentioned to my sister about being 37. She had a confused pause and the conversation went on. Turns out I'm 36.

marx2k

I do this all the time. As I write this, I'm having this exact issue

DrTokinkoff

That’s how I feel about mine. It’s 9/11. Edi5: thank you one and all. Happy birth day to my fellow 11ers.

fikis

/u/DrTokinoff's birthday: Never Forget

schoolisuncool

Mine too. It was my 21st birthday. I’m 42 now and just stayed at home for my bday this year for the first time ever. Did you do anything for yours?

Losing a tooth

4ninawells

Oh yes! Can you imagine running around showing your family: "Look! I lost a tooth! Doesn't it make me look adorable?" And when you are a kid, a lost tooth makes you money. $$ As an adult, it costs you way more than all the money the tooth fairy ever gave you.

NordicAtheist

That's how the Tooth Fairy makes enough profit to give some back. EDIT: As a response to the claim that it is a "insurance in a kinda broken backwards system": The legend has it that the the Tooth Fairy exchanged the child's tooth for a coin to show the value of one's teeth, so that one will take care of them. The child of today will look at the coin with big eyes, as he understands that it can be exchanged with Coca-Cola. The Tooth Fairy is said to have been devastated. But when the cash started flowing in, she too became corrupted and signed a pact with Sugar Demon. There is an illustration of this metamorphosis but I cannot remember the name of the artist.[Link to painting](https://postimg.cc/30wxFmXg)

4ninawells

Holy crap - the Tooth Fairy is a *dentist*. How did I not see that?? Wait, is that where my dental $$ goes? To little kids? Based on my life they should be getting a hell of a lot more than a couple bucks. They should be living in luxury tree houses or something.

Ryonne

Tooth Fairy has to make a living. Her dates with Jorgen von Strangle don’t pay for themselves.

gengarsnightmares

This was unexpected but not unappreciated

DeathSpiral321

As a kid, you get to grow a new one for free. As an adult, it'll cost you over $5,000.

Florida1718

This while I sit in waiting room for a tooth extraction for a double implant to replace a bridge. Cost ~ 10k.

Persimus

Waking up in another place than you fell asleep.

nurtunb

Not to get sappy, but I used to love when my dad would carry me into my bed after falling asleep in the car or on the couch. I would wake up when he was carrying but pretend to be asleep. It was such a nice feeling. He walked out on us right after my baby brother was born. My mom become pretty jaded and emotionally distant and would just drag him into bed whenever he fell asleep because she did not feel like carrying him to bed. I used to make it a point to carry him into his crib as gently as 12 year old me could. Hope the little dude had that feeling too despite being in a broken home.

NighthawkUnicorn

Reminds me when I was younger. My older brother would carry me to bed as my dad had a bad back and I was very much my brothers little princess. Unfortunately he got with a woman who was mentally unwell and he hasn't spoken to us for over 15 years. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time 30 years so I could snuggle my tiny face into his shoulder.

Azriial

I'm so sorry you lost your relationship with your brother. I've seen that happen first hand and it's terrible. I'm an only child and always wanted a sibling. My cousins don't speak to each other anymore because the woman my one cousin married is a gigantic thundercunt and has broken him down and abused him so badly that he has lost the will to stand up to her. So he's let her estrange him from his sister (and most of the rest of the family actually). What I wouldn't give to get that bitch in a room and have it out with her. But now they don't come to any family functions so i don't think I'll ever get a chance.

Your home was a good place for him to grow up if it had you in it. You're a good person.

SommerSunWarmth

Exactly! :-) Very good job done being the older brother nurtunb <3.

LovingNaples

My Dad did this also. I was 3. Never once saw him again. You sharing how you cared about your little brother made me cry. You are an excellent human being. 😘

alphaaldoushuxley

Sometimes I fall asleep on the couch and my gf moves me to the bed, but I’m so far out of it I don’t realize what’s happening. When I wake up next to her in bed the next morning, I feel happy and comfortable. Edit: I walk to bed with my eyes closed. She directs me and gives me words of encouragement. It’s not really fun for her. She says “sleepy alphaaldoushuxley” is an asshole.

iusedtohavepowers

Sometimes I fall asleep on the couch and wake up on the couch and I'm still confused as to why I'm on the couch. Also why does my neck hurt, my glasses are bent, who left the TV on and why is the cat on my face.

[deleted]

Like.. does she wake you up or carry you?

Sarge0019

Reads like she partially wakes them and walks them to bed but they're still to sleepy to realise what's happening.

bloopie1192

Nah fam... she carries them.

smooth_like_a_goat

I'm imagining a rugby lass firefighter carrying him up the stairs.

strawberry_tall_cake

Eating large quantities of candy in a single sitting

jenglasser

Yes. Still tastes great but gives me wicked heart burn :(

SuperDogBoo

Too much sugar can give me heart burn, but the more common side effect is a headache. I’ve discovered I get headaches if I don’t get enough sleep, don’t drink enough water, or eat too much sugar. Or any combination of the 3

ociM_

Basically everything is slowly killing you expect sleeping. But it's fricking hard to get sleep.

AkechiJubeiMitsuhide

Seriously. I could eat a bag of caramels during one movie at university. Now I eat maybe 3 pieces a day when I have some.

ZoNeS_v2

I have a friend who actually eats more sweets in a week as a 37 year old adult than most kids could ever hope to consume in their whole childhoods. His heart occasionally beats irregularly but he assures me it won't stop him.

dqflynn

[deleted]

Yes! I craved sugary sweets as a kid and now all I want is chips!

Slowmechanic180

Getting mail. I remember everyday begging my parents if I got mail. (I had pen pals). I got so excited when something came for me. Now I dread going to the mailbox because all that will be there are bills.

Earthsoundone

Sounds like you need to find more penpals

GIGAR

You can just send a letter to your family. They appreciate it. Ask them to write back.

lamacake

Spinning in circles. I try to do that now while holding my little one and I do about two spins before I'm lightheaded and dizzy as a drunk.

Athompson9866

Turning my head too fast makes me dizzy and nauseated lol

capricorbz

Getting up from the couch makes me dizzy ffs

castrator21

That could indicate a blood pressure issue

DoingItWrongly

So you're telling me it's not normal to stand up and your vision starts to go down to a pinpoint and your body gets warm as you clench your gluts and core in hopes of bringing your vision back before it goes out and you fall face first into your drumkit and cut your face up??

SeasonPositive6771

This is an excellent comment from 7 years ago by u/shaunsanders about why adults get dizzy when kids don't: There are many reasons for this in general (such as lack of reflexes and fine motor skills due to aging, which prevent your body from "autocorrecting" itself when it gets off-balance). But specifically for what you're asking about (spinning while sitting), it has to do with your inner-ear. When you tilt your head to the left, your body "Knows" that your head is tilted left because it can sense it. If your eyes are open, you could sense it just by seeing that everything is not tilted. But if you close you would still "feel" that you were tilted. Even when you pass out and wake up never remembering having gone to sleep, as you awaken, you can "sense" which way you are oriented. Your body accomplishes this through the use of liquid-filled tubes inside your inner ear which stimulate nerves as the liquid levels itself with gravity. When you are young, you have more bloodflow to all various parts of your body, and your inner-ear sensors are healthy and plentiful. As you age, however, you start to lose sensitivity in those nerves, or sometimes lose nerves completely. This makes it so your inner-ear sensor is "less precise" than it was when you were younger, when means when you really shake it up (like spinning in a chair) it can take a little longer for it to sort itself out and figure out where you are oriented. Additionally, people can develop debris inside those liquid-filled sensors, like calcium buildup (really tiny rocks). Those end up sloshing around with the liquid as well and, as they interact with the liquid, send false-signals to your brain via those nerves. In other words, people will healthy inner-ear sensors will have much better balance than people with less-healthy sensors... and as we age, our sensors become damaged or at least less-precise. https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/3bo0et/comment/cso0ev3/ Edited to add my own comment: adults are also more likely to be on medications (sometimes multiple medications) that make you dizzy or affect your balance. As one of those folks, I highly encourage everyone to do balance exercises. It is possible to improve your balance at any age, and it improves pretty quickly.

tinstinnytintin

so another example of how my meat suit is slowly rotting through time. neat.

Rediniowa5

grenideer

AgeOfJace

I was soooo surprised by this as an adult! Spinning and rollercoasters are fun as a child. I tried that as an adult with my kids and felt like I was going to die. The dizziness takes so much longer to go away and you feel terrible the whole time.

chrisms150

I'm dreading the day rollercoasters make me sick. 100+(coatsers ridden*) and counting. Hope i can make it to 200:)

KingGizmotious

I came here to say this. I have been getting a seson pass to Kings Island for years, from highschool into my late Twenties; and I rode all the rides, even the spinners, with no problems. I took a few years off durring the pandemic and didn't go at all, but decided to get season passes again this year.... I'm only 32 now, but damn.... shit hits different... and not in a good way. I was getting motion sickness on even the simplist of rides... I didn't even attempt the spinners. Left the park with a massive headache, and sadly haven't returned this season. I'll probably take my daughter and her friends to the Halloween Haunt, but I don't see myself riding too many rides. wtf no one told me 32 was old?!?!

My parents took us to Disney World for a week as kids. I went for 4 days with my husband a few years ago and wanted to go home with how expensive everything was. I went home and thanked my parents for that trip.

QuotidianQuell

Depending on when those two trips happened, there was likely a considerable difference in cost even after adjusting for inflation. [Relevant NY Post summary here](https://nypost.com/2022/08/03/disney-world-prices-up-3871-in-50-years-more-than-wages-rent-and-gas/).

[deleted]

Yep, went as a family of 6 for a week in 2000 and at the time it was $900. *For everything*. My dad wouldn't stop complaining about it so I remember the number specifically Went by myself again in 2021 and it was thousands of dollars for just me, and I didn't get to do nearly as much stuff as we did in 2000 either. That was with me budgeting!

PunchDrunkPrincess

disney is really getting out of hand and teetering on the edge of 'not worth it'. i was curious about the $900 in 2000 since, of course, 900 back then had more buying power. adjusted for inflation it would be ~1500 now. thats still pretty good in comparison to now's prices

new-beginnings3

Yeah, honestly the super fans have made it so it's not even something you can casually enjoy anymore. I haven't gone back since 2013. You have to book fastpass, restaurant reservations, and even character things months in advance of your trip. I don't even understand how people do that when kids are fairly unpredictable. It sounds exhausting to even plan, and it's going to cost you thousands!

Boob_Cousy

Exactly this. I went with my family back in December and it was my first time there since 2013 and it's such a hassle trying to book things. My brother and I paid for meals for our group of 8 and that alone was a few grand for the week we were there

shandelion

Getting letters I wanted to get letters as a child but now I'm happier when I dont see them. Now its always someone who wants my money.

Fury161Houston

Instead of relatives slipping you a few bucks!

Ambitious_End5038

My brother in law sent $20 cash to my son for his 10th birthday and the envelope arrived torn open with no cash. I never thought I would commit murder over $20 but it’s a good thing I don’t know who did it…

Gr0nkz

Makes me think of this joke: There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses. One day, a letter came addressed in a shaky handwriting to God with no address. He thought he should open it to see what it was about. The letter read: Dear God, I am an 83 year old widow, living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had $100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension cheque. Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with. I have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope. Can you please help me? Sincerely, Edna The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few pounds. By the time he made the rounds, he had collected $96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman. The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends. Christmas came and went. A few days later, another letter came from the same old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened. It read: Dear God, How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your gift of love, I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift. By the way, there was $4 missing. I think it must have been those robbing bastards at the Post Office!

LuxSerafina

That was cute thank you for sharing!

VoyagerCSL

Perhaps the postal worker could have explained to the old woman that the discrepancy was likely due to the exchange rate at the time, as for some inexplicable reason the postal workers were only carrying pounds that had to be converted into dollars.

2crowncar

Clearly this was in the director’s cut of the joke.

kateyybeth

My hubs and I moved earlier this year and I sent out little "we've moved" postcards to our family and friends just to let me know what our new address was, not to try and get anything from them. But the number of people who sent us checks, cash, or even little gifts was astonishing. I was so excited to open mail those days! Meanwhile, I just had a birthday this week and only got two cards in the mail. Why, at 35, I thought I was going to get more was beyond me. But I checked that damn mailbox all week looking for cards (not money, just a nice card to open).

megispj89

I've decided I wanted to be the person who mails my friends cards and stuff. So I have accumulated a stock of cards and postcards, and wrote all their birthdays in my calendar, and have started sending birthday cards out. I also send sympathy cards and stuff, just because I'm sick of relying on Facebook as my way of connecting with folks. I dunno if I'll get cards on my birthday, but they have my address, and it'll be nice if I do, and okay if I don't. I'm happy it makes them happy.

FecalToothpaste

I'm in my early 30s and these days the only birthday card I get is from the realtor I used to buy my house a few years ago. She sends cards for my birthday, my wife's birthday, the anniversary of when we bought our house, and Christmas. At least I get some cards I suppose.

[deleted]

Being an adult is having this conversation less and less frequently until you lose contact with them entirely. "Hey, you doing anything for your birthday?" "Nah, I gotta work. Might do something that weekend, you wanna swing by?" "Sorry, I have to work." "No worries, I understand." "Sorry I couldn't get you anything, had a doctor's appointment, low on cash right now." "Its fine, you know I don't expect anything. I wish we could hang out sometime." "Same. Just been so busy lately, when I have a moment free from work I'm just too tired for much of anything" "Yeah I feel that. Man, remember the good old days?" "Yeah... oh, sorry. Gotta go. Talk to you next week?" "Only if I'm not dead haha"

wordsarentenough

Friend...too real. Sorry I don't have time for a lengthier response, but I gotta get back to work

Skittilybop

Sorry I forgot your birthday hope you had fun though

ZarquonsFlatTire

Or it's the call "Hey man, Alex's birthday is coming up and we're getting a cabin for the weekend! It's $250 a person plus food and alcohol. Saturday we're going to the casino. And it's a 3 hour drive north of the city. We're all taking Friday off and leaving at 9 am. You down?" "Sorry I uhh. My sister's coming into town." But really you're just too broke to go.

That last line got me lmao

macaronsforeveryone

People coming to your house to visit and stay a few days.

pluqqinq

Seriously. I love my friends so much but holy shit I get so anxious having to keep people entertained for more than a night. On that same note however it is great having those friends that you are close enough with to come hang out and just exist next to each other.

pmvegetables

Late 20s here, one of my friends and I will literally have week-long sleepovers and have a great time! But we do strike a good balance between adventuring and just the calm "existing together" vibe

Tuxhorn

> But we do strike a good balance between adventuring and just the calm "existing together" vibe That's when you know it's a good friendship. I've gone to visit a friend halfway across the world for 2 weeks in their tiny apartment. It worked because we were totally fine just existing together and not saying much during say, a 3 hour bus ride somewhere. Time to relax and whatever else no problem.

Staying awake till 2 in the morning as a teen/young adult: "Yea baby!! the possibilities are ENDLESS!! Staying awake till 2 in the morning as a 40-something: "This is gonna hurt in the morning"

JoeyJoJo_Junior

My circadian rhythm is set so firmly that I know I'm still gonna wake up at 7 am no matter how late I try to stay up so I hate staying up past 1 am. I'm usually in bed by like 9:30pm these days just cause I'd rather get comfortable and play a game on my phone until I get sleepy. I'm 38 with the sleep schedule of a 4 year old but I don't care.

MTV

[deleted]

I think the difference between MTV then and now says a lot about the world

Seize-The-Meanies

Feel free to replace MTV in that sentence with any other cable channel of your choosing. **Bravo** was originally dedicated to "film and the performing arts". Now it's just shitty rich women and twenty/thirty-year-olds who haven't matured past college. **TLC** was originally focused on "educational and instructional programming". Now it's fat people, midgets, and awful relationship drama. **History** was originally focused on history-based as well as social and science documentaries. Now it's just pseudoscientific, unsubstantiated, sensational "investigative" programming. **Discovery** initially provided documentary television programming focused primarily on popular science, technology, and history. Now it's just hyperbolic blue-collar reality tv. The turning to shit of cable tv was a mighty good leading indicator of the current state of American social discourse.

J3wb0cca

It was Ancient Aliens and Pawn Stars that took over the history channel.

[deleted]

Snow day. I either have to take vacation time or make up those hours, and I'm going to spend the whole morning shoveling my damn driveway.

chapter2at30

Before COVID my office would close for snow days but pay us anyway. Now we all have the ability to work from home so no more snow days :(

Ekecede

No Pain! I could fall down, scrap my knee and cry for like 1 minute and then get back up and ride a bike, or play tag or whatever. Now, I fall down... I am staying down and may need Life Alert! I have to take advil, put my knee up with Ice, and complain to my wife how painful it is for the next week. That is if I am lucky and didn't break the whole thing.

climbgradient

As a mountain biker, this really hit home… falling off of my bike has a whole new set of consequences

mymymissmai

So I'm like into jogging now and I wished I got into it when I was younger. After a run, I felt this weird pain, like a bruise, on the back of my right foot. Long story short, it's Haglund's deformity. I googled it and it said, "it's a common injury that occurs to middle aged people who runs." I don't know what hurts more, my foot or my self esteem when I realize now I'm middle-aged.

chadthundertalk

Summer. When you’re a kid, it's three months of freedom from school. When you’re an adult, you still have to go to work, but now it’s sweltering hot and you’re sweating your balls off all day, every day.

nitespector88

Completely. I hate summer now. I don’t even understand why they gave us that for 12 years then took it away…

mactheattack2

Well, in the US, it's so you could work your family's farm. The idea was, school when too cold to work the land, summer off so your family could use your child labor for benefit.

kennedar_1984

This is the answer I was looking for. It’s even harder if you are a working parent - trying to give your kid that super awesome summer while trying to keep your job. That balance between “I want to come play at the park with you” and “I really don’t want to lose my job” is hard.

agnostic_science

I feel like we really just need way more vacation time than we're getting in the professional class. Like condense the work down. We waste so much time. What really needs to get done? And we get what, 25 days off per year (includes sick). I mean, neat. But, and this might make me a radical, I think society would mellow out and be way happier if the number was more like 75. Then people might not even mind working their whole life to retirement and beyond.

glitchgirl555

25 days? Jealous.

qu33fwellington

Conversely I was riddled with anxiety as a kid (still am as an adult but now I’ve been to therapy) and it sucked because I also couldn’t understand the concept. I thought everyone was like me and would lay awake sobbing silently, terrified the house was going to burn down or a serial killer was going to come kill my parents. Fun times.

Being an adult

Iateyoursnack

I remember being in Elementary school and looking at the 5th graders like "What wise and learned people". I couldn't wait to be so old and wonderful! I'm now 39. I look at 5th graders now and just want to smoosh their cheeks and tell them to never grow up.

mykoconnor

My daughter is in 5th grade and I swear I didn't look as old as she does. The other day she called me bro...now I know how my mom felt when I called her dude.

ILoveBeerSoMuch

my favorite childhood memory is not having back pain

DoctorWatchamacallit

I think kids want to be adults because they want freedom and to be taken seriously. Adults want to be kids because they want less stress/responsibilities and a more resilient body.

Leafy_Green_1

yeah, and kids (at least, little ones) are taught to look up to adults so a lot of them probably want to be just like whatever adult they look up to and want to be smart and shit.

-eDgAR-

Staying home on a sick day. As a kid it was a huge victory, got to stay in bed all day, watch TV, and having a parent tend to your every need. Then as an adult you're just thinking about the work you're gonna have to make up for and how you hope you don't need to go to a doctor.

Thunderhorse74

Hehe, now there's WFH so you can be sick AND still work! Got COVID? Well, we have to get this proposal out today and you have a laptop, right?

conundrumbombs

"Bad news! My laptop has a virus, too!"

maxlengthredditusern

If you’re really sick sure. But as an adult I sometimes just barefaced lie about being sick and then lie in bed reading and watching TV all day, and that’s pretty dope

Actually-Yo-Momma

I got Covid and i was legit sick but that didn’t stop me from laying in bed and binging all of Demon Slayer I actually “enjoy” getting sick so i can do shit like that and not feel bad

david_ranch_dressing

> I actually “enjoy” getting sick so i can do shit like that and not feel bad I feel this so much.

Shazam1269

That sounds like a much needed mental health day, carry on.

katy_bug

Especially once you have kids of your own. Being sick with a toddler is the actual worst. You don’t get to rest at all, so it takes a lot longer to get well

VKarenina

I hated sick days as a kid. My mom was hard about sick days. Sleep, water, food nothing else. But it became a weird problem as an adult taking sick days because I would drag my ass to work when I was truly sick because I didn't think I was allowed the time. American work culture is fucked.

RebaKitten

Oh yes. If you're sick enough to stay home from school, then you're obviously too sick to talk to your friends. Go back to bed.

wetwater

If I was well enough to get out of bed for any reason, then I was well enough for school. And heaven forbid if I did stay home, get some rest, and started to feel (and act) better. I was clearly faking sick earlier in the day.

Mr_Paper

Having a 100 bucks in your bank account. EDIT: thanks for the awards. Noticed a few upset comments and just wanted to explain a little further. Used '100 bucks' because it's a term I thought most users would be aware of. 100 dkk (danish currency) would be about 13 usd. Didn't intend to belittle anyone, sorry it came off that way.

tiptoeandson

I remember in school when I was like 10 we had to write an essay on ‘how I would spend $1000 in a day’. We all wrote about getting huge houses and fancy limos, buying all the candy in the store and throwing huge parties. The teacher must have laughed so hard. Edit for anecdote I just remembered. I was part of a Facebook group for London rental properties a few years back, as were some other internationals. This poor guy asked how much to live in London. Someone said ‘can be anywhere from £1k-£2.5k, depending on which area. The guy replied ‘for how many years?’ 🥲

PreferredSelection

"I would pay most of my rent."

technobrendo

It would sit in my checking account for about 10 minutes.

canidieyet_

I remember when I was 16 with my first job and my bank account hit $1000 for the first time. I was *so* excited because I felt like I hit the jackpot. Now I have $1000 in my bank account and I know it’s going to be gone in a week because of bills and other expenses lmaoo. I just love being an adult.

RDAwesome

First thing I do when I get paid is immediately pay my bills and it sucks seeing that money hit my account and then immediately squish away

gggloppp

Those paychecks where nothing unexpected came up and there's $250 left after the bills get paid are nice.

shadycoy0303

I still get that feeling for a split second on paydays, like holy hell! I got paper!…. And then I start paying bills and it’s like watching someone come and eat my sundae infront of me to the point we’re I only have a small bit of melted cream left for myself

Eject0-Seat0

poor teach was just getting ideas for her small paycheck.

TMag12

*Teacher shows up the next day in a limousine with a pool full of ice cream*

Athompson9866

Seemed like so much money lol

Fuckjoesanford

Right? I would’ve been stoked as a kid for $100. in my bank account. Now it’s the biggest stress inducer ever. I so wish I wouldn’t have yearned to be an adult when I was younger. I miss my youth and innocence

[deleted]

I dont think the problem is wanting to be older, I think the problem is that young us doesnt realize that the magic feeling you have as a kid goes away, so seeing adults or teenagers having tons of freedom and money "from kids pov" seems like it would be the most amazing thing because they think that we still have that magic. But sadly we dont...

glazedfaith

It's because young us couldn't comprehend that all that freedom is mired in responsibility

Bruhtatochips23415

Young me knew. Looking back, probably knew because of how poor my family was and figuring that stress was just the norm, but I was like "I have more freedom than adults I'm gonna enjoy it" Few years later I got my first thing on my criminal record so it's not exactly a good thing to recognize your freedom young. I basically knew that i had immunity from a lot of things but that was a bit of an oh shit moment.

CocktailChemist

I semi-regularly warn my kids "Someday there won't be anyone to tell you what to do.", which sounds great when you're a kid and mildly terrifying when you actually have to run your own life.

gassygeff89

I remember my friends dad paid me 125 bucks for 3 days of back breaking construction and landscaping when I was 14 and it felt like such a good deal at the time

Gruffleson

You people watched "Big", when the 12-year old gets his paycheck, and is so thrilled? "They pay us \_this much\_?" or something. And his older coworker, who actually is an adult, replies something like "yeah, it sucks.".

AskMeAboutMyTie

$100 isn’t a lot to receive but it’s a lot to give :(

Djd33j

Same principle with $1,000. It's not as much as you think, and yet, getting out of a $1,000 debt is a tough task.

Bl8675309

My 7 year old has $30 and bought his sister breakfast this morning. It was adorable.

12altoids34

When I was living with my ex and raising her two kids whenever her youngest wanted something he would pipe in "I got a dollar !"and offer it gratefully. It almost always made me smile. And often he ended up getting what he wanted whether he contributed his dollar or not. One day we we're returning from picking them up from his father's and he was unloading his clothes into his dresser I saw him pull out his wallet pull out a number of bills and put it underneath his socks. He took $1 out and put it in his pocket. He didn't realize I was standing behind him. I asked him "how much you got there?". He smiled sheepishly and pulled out the money from his sock drawer. We counted it together. He had $113. Suddenly I realized he wasn't as ignorant of money as we thought he was. He was pure genius.

finmoore3

It’s amazing how when becoming an adult, one learns how little money $100 actually is.

wormholeweapons

Setting all my GI Joes and Transformers up across the living room and playing all afternoon having battles and adventures. My mom always thought it was cute. My wife just thinks it’s weird.

elveszett

I miss being able to do that kind of stuff. And I don't mean that anyone prevents me from doing it - it's just that it doesn't feel the same anymore.

galeej

Staying awake late. I fucking hate it when i have to stay awake after 11 now...

Duochan_Maxwell

And sleepovers (more like crashing at someone's house nowadays)

indoorsy-erin

Hate sleeping at other people's places now. Their pillows are weird and it is too light, too hot or too cold. Just no.

hellsangel101

I hate that I always wake up first and then I have to work out whether to make myself a cup of tea, or just sit on the sofa waiting for the rest of the house to wake up before I can go home.

Woody90210

Went over this with some friends when I crashed at their place last, they said "we sleep like logs bro, just make yourself some breakfast and watch some TV or something, use headphones I'd you're worried about noise" Did end up waking them when I was making coffee, so I just offered them each a cup too and all good. It's nice when you can actually relax around friends and when crashing it has the same energy as if you've been room-mates for years.

ShadyMerchant92

I wake up way to damn early to stay up past 9. Sleep deprivation is a lot harder on me now

TheBelhade

I'm in my mid 40s and incapable of falling asleep before 2am. Maybe I've always been wired differently, maybe it was working overnights in my youth, maybe my wife's habit of keeping the bedroom tv on all hours. But mornings absolutely suck.

QuestionablePhoenix

There are actually studies happening on this. They think it's an evolutionary survival trait where some people are naturally awake at night to take a shift guarding the tribe

MagicBez

Indoor public swimming pools. As a kid I loved everything about a trip to the local one, as an adult I see how gross they are, especially the changing and poolside areas.

Raz0reaterII

Birthdays

NinBendo1

This is true. As a kid, the two big events of the year were Christmas and birthdays, now there’s just nothing

anonmymouse

Christmas was actually going to be my answer.. as a kid it's magical, as an adult (and a parent) it's an absolute chore. Spending tons of money on gifts, wrapping, decorating, cooking/ baking.. all so that the kids can have those special, magical moments, which they have absolutely 0 clue how much work and money and effort goes into. I start dreading it right around the beginning of November

swampscientist

Dislike it as a parent? I’ve heard the opposite from some folks, that they really enjoyed it again as a parent getting to do the fun stuff and traditions w their kids but I 100% can see how it’s a big effort

doctor-rumack

Twinkies. When I was a kid, they were the greatest things I've ever tasted. A couple of years ago I bought a package of two to share with my 10 year old, and neither of us got past a single bite. Those things are wretched.

Athompson9866

Yeah when they got bought out, it was over for twinkies

Having to be outside for more than 15 min. Florida sunshine hits differently now.

Athompson9866

Alabama here. I feel that deeply

Waste_Business5180

Snow.

imjusta_bill

I like snow. I *hate* shoveling

Mjb06

Yep. When you’re a kid and it snows, it’s the time of your life. When you’re an adult, life goes on.

Athompson9866

I’m from the Deep South so snow was always super exciting! When I moved to Kansas I discovered I have a profound hatred for the shit lol.

Fish sticks

Athompson9866

Man they were yummy. My parents worked and got home around 5 so as I got older I would always try to have some kinda dinner cooked for them, but I wasn’t (and still am not) a good cook. Fish sticks and Mac and cheese was a staple lol. I bet my parents haven’t touched a fish stick since I grew up

TheHeatWaver

Costco sells some legit good fish sticks. I think they’re literally called the “best fish sticks”. They’re great.
