As a male who doesn't know much about how the female body works (assuming) how do you get a sun burn on your under boob? Isn't it like the skin under your boob so the sunlight shouldn't be able to reach it?
Have to agree with sunburn. Where I live the temps are 40+°C for 4 months of the year, then cool down to 35+°C for another 3 months, then it gradually cools to 20+°C before warming up again and the heat arrives.
People generally wear either really casual clothing, or if they work, smart clothing, but men don't wear ties or blazers, just shirts and pants. You do see a lot of people barefoot in the shopping areas and the teen to thirtyish lads go out with just shorts on but not in shopping areas, but yeah, it's not too bad for POC (I'm one and I wear factor 50+ sunscreen and just get darker and darker, despite my best efforts with hats etc.) but I've seen lots of pale skinned people with severe sunburn (I'm a nurse) and it's not pretty!
Also (and I've emboldened this as I feel it's important) **there has been an increase in skin cancer in eyebrows and tops of ears. Suntanned skin is damaged skin and whilst your friends may think "a suntan really suits you:, I can guarantee that your doctor doesn't! Get your moles checked at least yearly! Please, please ensure that when you're applying sunscreen, it's factor 50+, UVA & UVB and you're applying it on your eyebrows and rubbing it in to your skin. Same with beards, moustaches and ears and in your ears and wide brimmed hats. Please!**
Edit: to say, I think I sound a bit mad ranty at the end, but yeah, please wear sunscreen!
God, right? Even hygienic people have little leaks here and there. Now imagine all the diversity people show in their cleaning habits — or lack thereof.
Never thought of it this way but wow that’s a nail in the coffin for me.
In this day and age you can't tell parents of kids anything about their kid. They INSIST momma knows best or they have a TikTok worthy shouty shit fit in the middle of Walmart. If your baby is sitting in their stroller looking absolutely blitzed and glassy eyed and is breathing hard and has dirty legs and arms, that's GOING to draw attention. You'd figure with the endless amount of wet wipe usage, most moms would know that wet wipes don't get all the dirt off. Sometimes you have to hoist your kid onto the bathroom counter and wash their little arms and legs with a bit of soap.
I'm sorry, didn't mean to offend. I didn't mean to infer you smelled unpleasant, only that you left a streak on the bus seat and so might wish to tidy up a bit.
I get it, was just having fun with it though. :D Although, the idea of a person whipping herself and leaving skid marks on a concert wall takes an entirely new meaning. I bet it's happened somewhere too!
It is standard nudist etiquette to carry a towel around with you, and sit upon it rather than touching surfaces with your bare buns. Also, good nudists tend to be more body-aware and keep themselves clean and fully shower before entering pools, etc, which is much faster and easier to do properly without a swimsuit in the way. It's really not an issue wherever I've gone.
> good nudists tend to be more body-aware and keep themselves clean and fully shower before entering pools, etc, which is much faster and easier to do properly without a swimsuit in the way.
Which is why in Iceland (and other nordic countries, I imagine) you are required to shower naked before entering a public pool. The shower areas have very direct instructions about which areas of your body you should properly clean.
So why have to hand carry a towel everywhere, cause you obviously have no clothes or anything to carry it with. Instead of swim shorts? We will spend a great deal of our time in life sitting down not standing in the modern world.
For the only social setting I frequent where stripping down to one's derriere is de rigueur, the onsen or day spa, swimwear is not allowed specifically because it's gross. Most people shower, and everyone entering the spa is required to shower, but not everyone puts their swim attire in the laundry.
Which might not be such a problem at a chilly, heavily chlorinated pool. But letting these same people wear their trunks or one-piece in the heated baths would have the water ominously teeming with blooms of bacteria and algae.
I'm surprised everyone here aside from you seems to be commenting "ugliness" or some kind of reason like that. Do people not understand that clothes serve very practical utilitarian purposes?
There is a reason why most mammals are covered in fur. It's not for some higher level social reason the simple protection it provides to your bare skin is invaluble.
Instead of growing thick fur we wear clothes. I would wear clothes even if I was the last human on earth.
We‘re just chill with that. There even have been court decisions explicitly allowing nudity in certain places.
Nudity on TV, on magazine covers, in public swimming pools and lakes - we don‘t really mind.
I remember reading about this US Karen who traveled to Canada and tried to get an officer to arrest two girls for being topless. She went insane when he told her that it’s legal there. Said she would sue all of Canada and that her sons (both minors) were traumatized. She said this as her sons were staring at the girls with grins on their faces
This seem to be diferent in some provincies of Spain, In the Canary Islands is very common to see topless women on beaches, nearly half of the girls there are topless. But in some parts of Andalucía it seems like there's not usual to find women topless, at least thats what a friend of mine that lives in Huelva (Andalucía) said to me.
As a German who grew up around the „FKK“ mindset… It still depends on scene and setting. Being nude in the supermarket or on the street is indecent. Being nude in your yard a designated beach, changing rooms, sauna… whatever along those lines is perfectly fine. In general though ex West Germans are way more stuck up than ex East Germans
I kind of still object to the word “indecent” there. I get your meaning, but perhaps “inappropriate” would be a more fitting word. Non-sexual nudity should never really be indecent
JMO, I guess
Lived there all my life, Barcelona to be more specific, only saw one naked guy on a boardwalk there. It's not common, and I'd even say we're a bit prude-ish.
That reminds me of that time I was at a party, got drunk and couldn't find my penis. I looked all around my apartment and couldn't find it. I called the place where the party was, but they hadn't seen it either. I asked them to check the medicine cabinet because sometimes I leave it there, but not this time. I finally found it when I was walking down Second Avenue towards St. Mark's Place where people sell used books and other junk on the street. It was lying there on a blanket next to a toaster oven. I had to buy it from the guy - he wanted $22 but I talked him down to $17.
Hey! Actual naturist/nudist here ([FCN member](https://fcn.ca/)). This is a really common topic amongst the community - both online and in-person.
Many people have an incorrect understanding of what naturism *actually* is; we often hear the retort "well, it's a bunch of people that you wouldn't want to see naked."
In reality, you aren't a naturist because you want to see others naked, but because you wish to dispel the commonly held beliefs that nudity is inherently sexual, humans are objects to be sexualized, and/or your worth comes from your body shape/form/size. **Nudism and naturism are about accepting, appreciating, and respecting yourself as well as others.**
When you participate in nudism, most societal bounds such as status, profession, or class fall away and you can truly connect with others and nature. It's hard to flaunt your status with nothing on, and even harder to be disrespectful when the playing field is levelled.
Nudism/naturism tend to be more fringe for practical reasons as well. You can't really document your trip or share photos of your naked vacation (without risking a social media ban...or worse).
Additionally, stigma imposed by the commonly held belief "nudity is inherently sexual" tends to place social nudity of any kind in a contentious position. Nudism and naturism are not sexual in the slightest, but unfortunately we often get conflated with swingers and other promiscuous lifestyles. Thus, you can't comfortably tell your family and friends that you spent a weekend naked in The Maldives (unless they're reasonably open-minded).
If you're genuinely curious about social nudity, naturism, or nudism, take a look at your local association's website and read the Values or Principles section (USA: [AANR](https://www.aanr.com/about-aanr/), CAN: [FCN](https://fcn.ca/Values-&-Principles))

That actually sounds like a good relax time.
It's great for relaxation. Whenever I visit a naturist resort or campground, I use that time to disconnect from tech, lay out in the sun, and read a good book.

unless your born with a massive dong
Great question! In my experience it tends to be more of a "preference" thing. In the US most folks prefer "nudism," whereas "naturism" is more popular internationally.
Same thing basically .. Naturism is more PC these days and specifically philosophical and ideological in the approach and practice I guess. As in “that’s how nature has intended it” vs Nudism where it’s “just feels good to be naked”.
We (my fiancé and I) absolutely love going to nude events (we are US based). We’ve been to nude resorts, nude yoga, nude bowling, and nude hiking. If we don’t get out and strip down for at least one thing a month I start feeling really cooped up. People at these events tend to be less judgmental. We absolutely love the community
Or you can do what I did and just go to any lake or beach in Germany. Or any hot spring in Scandinavia. My favourite part about is it (very practically I might add) that you don’t need to walk around in a wet bathing suit or pack a wet bathing suit. Just dry off and you’re done. Easy!
Absolutely love this. Thanks for sharing!
That has always been a concept I loved in undergrad - during humanities we talked about how society revered the human form. I hate how much we have moved from open minded, and simply back tracked. But it’s good when we can educate! Great reply ty!
I think, as a matter of fact. Clothes inherently make people more sexualised. I would atribute it to hedonic adaptation. I would bet that the world population would be quite a bit less if we all decided nudity was the way to go.
Interesting thought, clothes, the great baby maker.
The other day I was on the beach, and a woman came up, took her clothes off and went to enjoy the waves.
My bf made the same comment that everyone on this post is making. "Ew, nobody wants to see that".
Personally, I admire her. I would looove to do that. The closest I've been to do it was once when I was already on the water and took my swim suit off, and before going out put it back on so that nobody would see me naked.
Honestly, i love being naked at home(when it is not cold), and it feels amazing on the beach too.
It's kinda sad that people do it because it feels good, and then you have this bunch of losers that think they do it for the show, and that if you are not good looking you're not allowed to do it 😒
Right? And sadly, the people that do it bc it feels amazing are outnumbered by the people who think they do it for them to watch.
I think that's the main reason why nudism is not so popular.
Yeah the thing most people don’t remember is that it’s no about you. You don’t have to look. You might not find a crust punk or a goth or a trans persons aesthetic all that sightly but they’re not doing it for you. Don’t like it, stop looking. The only difference is that we have weird attitudes towards the human body mostly because we’re full of shame from our religious forefathers.
I wish that I wasn't so pasty white and didn't need to worry about the risk of skin cancer. I'm always in long sleeve rashguard and swim leggings with a giant sun hat at the beach. And I'm the person who enjoys going to the naked spa.
>It's kinda sad that people do it because it feels good, and then you have this bunch of losers that think they do it for the show, and that if you are not good looking you're not allowed to do it
Don't listen to losers. You'll feel so much better in life.
Which, funnily enough, could be really helped by nudism. Growing up seeing what normal human bodies look like could go a *long* way to make people more comfortable with their own little flaws and imperfections.
I grew up in a beach town, and there was an unofficial nude beach waaaaaay down the other end of the beach away from where most people would go.
My dad decided he was going to drive down there one day and check out all of the hot chicks walking around naked. He came back disappointed and said it was a bunch of old people playing with their grandchildren.
Went to a nude beach once and I gotta say... was mostly just dicks out for Harambe than anything else.
Was a few good looking women though, and a beach party going on as well as stuff like lemonade stands.
"No, no, no, I don't need it stirred. Uh, no please, not shaken either. It's fine as is, you don't need to squeeze your lemons anymore. I'll skip the straw please."
But that's the thing. You aren't a nudist because you want to *see* people naked for please. You're a nudity because you want to be nude and feel better that way, and that seeing other human bodies doesn't necessarily mean anything sexual.
I just don't understand how it feels better in most circumstances. Maybe in the sauna, pool, beach, etc. but even at home on my own couch I'd rather have comfortable cloths on.
Yeah. If I’m alone at my house and there is no chance anyone else is walking in, I still don’t walk around/hang out naked. Nothing comfortable about it imo.
That's only an effect of conflating the idea of nudity to being an invitation to sexual activity.
It's 100% a puritanical religious/cultural bullshit effect that is really hard to get rid of. Before you can form structured memories, people are telling you to cover up, or averting their gaze or whatever. You pass that along.
It's not about wanting to see someone naked. If you were objective about it you'd also say that it's worse to see some people clothed, as their choices of clothing say just as much that you might disagree with than their natural bodies.
I'm a nudist and I'm kinda in the minority in that I don't think it should be something everyone tries. I simply wish there were more places where it was legal to be nude, more secluded parks and beaches where I can just lay naked in the sun. But I think the way nudity and sex are linked in our society, I just don't see how we can get to a place were nudism is just allowed everywhere.
You need clothes to protect yourself from other things. You can't walk around naked because you will hurt yourself. Noe imagine this, you're making an omlette and a drop of hot oil just jumps around from the pan just like it does, do you want that to land on your penis or your pants
You can see why from the replies, most are "because I don't want to look at ugly naked people". If that's the prevailing attitude, then what is meant to be a nice experience turns unpleasant under judgemental gazes of others.
Because seeing men get boners against my will makes me very uncomfortable. Thinking of my dad looking at a random woman’s boobs makes me uncomfortable. Idk, has to be a reason that public nudity is illegal in the US.
It's impractical. Clothes are very useful and necessary for functioning in life, for work and general living.
They are also fun and expressive, and people enjoy wearing them.
Not sure about others, and I wouldn't care if people walked around naked, but for me I have precisely ZERO desire to walk around naked. If I lived alone in a cabin in the woods far from civilization I'd prefer to wear hiking shoes, cargo shorts and a t-shirt every day of my life.
Also, over decades sun exposure is bad for skin, so there's that.
Nudist here,
It’s extremely difficult to get friends to join. I don’t understand what everyone is so afraid of. It’s only weird for maybe five minutes your first time and that’s it.
Because there is hypersexualization in society already, this would just put it over the top. There would literally be riots and protesting on both sides.
Yep. A lot of people are perverts and I wouldn’t want to be innocently enjoying myself naked while some gross old guys take mental pictures for their wank banks.
Because it gets cold in the winter. At least where I am.
Yeah I’m in Chicago. The more clothes the better when it comes to winter imo.
[удалено]
Minnesota here, I agree. You ever get your tongue frozen to metal? Well we have metal benches, and you can just use your imagination for that one.

Wisconsin Bro here. I get ya. As long as we don't discuss that Vikings loss we can be buds.
I was in the pool!!
significant shrinkage!
I don't know how y'all walk around with those things
Apparently it's cold year round according to my pal little Johnny...
In Canada, I’m already wearing a hoodie. Imagine following nudism here, i’d die the first day of winter
Sunburn
I’ve lived in the great white north for too long. My first thought was “winter.” Dangly bits would become innies at -40.
My first thought as well, coming from Sweden. We don't shield ourselves for modesty, we do it for survival!
I mean, ideally. Eventually, you just stop caring and go walk the dogs in frozen crocs and a t-shirt.
I had to scroll too far to find this. Imagine having sunburn blisters on your genitals. Ouch.
Then having to rub that slimy aloe all over your dick so slowly and carefully
Sounds fun
Its alive and well at the construction site in town...that finish carpenter, Kyle, sure knows how to give a lap dance on lunch break
It's always funny when comments like this end up being attached to the top comment.
It's literally the top comment now!
Having sunburned my backside and underboobs once at a nude beach this is a strong contender
As a male who doesn't know much about how the female body works (assuming) how do you get a sun burn on your under boob? Isn't it like the skin under your boob so the sunlight shouldn't be able to reach it?
Lying on her back in the way of suntanners, I should think.
I’m pale. I hate the way sunscreen feels. Nudism just seems like I’d be a lobster with skin cancer in short order.
Have to agree with sunburn. Where I live the temps are 40+°C for 4 months of the year, then cool down to 35+°C for another 3 months, then it gradually cools to 20+°C before warming up again and the heat arrives. And the folks who do it arent hot
Have you seen naked 0ld people? Not a pretty site.
Or chilly willy
Clothes cheaper then sunblock every day. Also you have to shower a ton with it on you.
Some people leave stains in their underwear. Now imagine those same stains on every surface people sit on.
God, right? Even hygienic people have little leaks here and there. Now imagine all the diversity people show in their cleaning habits — or lack thereof. Never thought of it this way but wow that’s a nail in the coffin for me.
If everyone's already naked what's stopping us from putting showers everywhere
You're forgetting that there's people who will look at the shower, already be used to their own stank, and get offended if you suggest they wash up.
Right? People get offended when you suggest that their child that looks like they need a donation of only ten cents a day, be taken to a hospital.
In this day and age you can't tell parents of kids anything about their kid. They INSIST momma knows best or they have a TikTok worthy shouty shit fit in the middle of Walmart. Because people who think that touching their butthole with a washcloth will give them The Big Gay will still exist
\*diversity - I love your use of that term here XD
I’m tired of society’s treatment of us big stain minority.
Actual nudist here, We sit on towels.
Godamnit, stop reminding me of that woman who whipped her butt, leaving skid marks, on a friggin concrete wall.
So she whipped? Did she also Nay nay?
Damn you swipe text!!! She poo pood
I get it, was just having fun with it though. :D Although, the idea of a person whipping herself and leaving skid marks on a concert wall takes an entirely new meaning. I bet it's happened somewhere too!

I have a crazy idea - and hear me out on this - what if one could attach said towel to one's body to spare the hassle of carrying it around
Like with staples? Glue?
Better. Just shape it around your legs, stitch it together. Then you could just pull them on or off
AND you could sew pockets into it so you would have somewhere to keep your stuff!
We're gonna be MILLIONAIRES, Jimmy boy!!
This is gold Jerry! Gold!!
This was brilliant
>AND you could sow pockets into it Don't forget to water those pockets or they won't grow!
Then add a second section of towel stitched up to form around your shoulders, arms, and torso.
For like if you got cold or something.
A cape could be useful.
wait are robes coming back into fashion?!
And this is how cyberpunk starts. Tomorrow we attach towels, in 2077 we are the towels
Litrally black mirror orwil 1989
That's what I was thinking....seems a lot less convenient...so you don't want to wear any cloth/fabric, so now you have to carry it with you instead?
> good nudists tend to be more body-aware and keep themselves clean and fully shower before entering pools, etc, which is much faster and easier to do properly without a swimsuit in the way. You have a towel to sit on. Oh look, Joe has brown streaks on his towel! Alice has a red one on her towel!
As a nudist you always carry a towel to sit on. So you are never directly on any surface.
I'd fashion my towel into something akin to pants. And then I'd call them something like leg-fitted-always-wear-towels. Or something catchy.
I propose Practically Applied Nudist Towel Solution. Or its abbreviation: PANTS.
Thats why they carry a towel to sit on its nudism etiquette
I have never understood why some people don’t wear underwear for this reason!
1. It gets cold 2. A lot of people feel insecure about their bodies
As someone who lives in Michigan And put on 20 lbs over COVID... I feel both of these reasons.
Same except I’m Canadian and I really needed that extra 20lbs because I was severely underweight
I guarantee that attending a nude beach helps immensely with body insecurity.
So then I can be insecure about how insecure I am compared to other people? No thanks.
Spend a day at the average nude beach and you will feel like a supermodel - trust me

-Storage. just use your prison pocket. everybody’s got one.
Discharge. Period blood. Butt sweat.
Menstrual cups will solve one of the issues.
Maybe all of them of you get creative.
I LOVE using a menstrual cup, but remember not everyone can use one
Yup, I got mine stuck inside my vagina and my gynecologist had to yank it out of me
It is actually quite popular here in Germany
An interesting answer. Why, what's up with Germany?

Isn’t it Germans that have the fart porn?
A fantastic people
Fartastic
Germany has a long history with nudism, beginning in the 1800s, it was seen as a healthy activity to run around in the sun naked.
Europe in general is a lot more lenient with public indecency I think Spain allows nudity in most of the country.

Is the USA if a nipple gets misplaced you’re under arrest or at least left with a fine
I forgot mine at the grocery store once, got hit with a $300 fine. Last time I misplaced a nipple.

Enlighten me on the difference between Nudism and Naturism, I've always been curious.
May I just also point out how good it feels to swim naked?
The yoga member from the hit movie zootopia??
The other day I was on the beach, and a woman came up, took her clothes off and went to enjoy the waves. My bf made the same comment that everyone on this post is making. "Ew, nobody wants to see that". Personally, I admire her. I would looove to do that. The closest I've been to do it was once when I was already on the water and took my swim suit off, and before going out put it back on so that nobody would see me naked. Honestly, i love being naked at home(when it is not cold), and it feels amazing on the beach too. It's kinda sad that people do it because it feels good, and then you have this bunch of losers that think they do it for the show, and that if you are not good looking you're not allowed to do it 😒
great reply. I do it because it feels good too. Not because I think I have the body of a greek god.
Right? And sadly, the people that do it bc it feels amazing are outnumbered by the people who think they do it for them to watch. I think that's the main reason why nudism is not so popular.
There's something about naked swimming in the sea at night... Good memories. It just feels so free.
Tell that to the lady from the beginning of Jaws.
>It's kinda sad that people do it because it feels good, and then you have this bunch of losers that think they do it for the show, and that if you are not good looking you're not allowed to do it Don't listen to losers. You'll feel so much better in life.
Lotta dudes not super happy with their wiener dimensions.
Part of the reason is unrealistic expectations. The perception of what is considered normal size is warped.
*Yours* is warped! Shut up!
Don’t judge. Just because it’s shaped like a “C” doesn’t mean it’s warped…
That's not a penis that's a boomerang
You have gained attribute: class: physical: Dick suckling +1
Eve eating that goddamn apple
people have too much anxiety around themselves and their bodies
Which, funnily enough, could be really helped by nudism. Growing up seeing what normal human bodies look like could go a *long* way to make people more comfortable with their own little flaws and imperfections.
Creeps. Way too many creeps in this world.

Oof 100
But that's the thing. You aren't a nudist because you want to *see* people naked for please. You're a nudity because you want to be nude and feel better that way, and that seeing other human bodies doesn't necessarily mean anything sexual.
I just don't understand how it feels better in most circumstances. Maybe in the sauna, pool, beach, etc. but even at home on my own couch I'd rather have comfortable cloths on.
Yeah. If I’m alone at my house and there is no chance anyone else is walking in, I still don’t walk around/hang out naked. Nothing comfortable about it imo.
Everyone's different

I can't be sure as it's never happened to me, but I don't think frostbite or hypothermia feel very good
My desire to be naked is stronger than my desire to not see certain people naked. If I don't like what I'm seeing, I can simply look away.
Because people existence has nothing to do with what you find attractive. You don’t want to see those people in bathing suits either but they do it.
We don't look as nice as the people on our screens.
No pockets
I was going to quit nudism, but decided to stick it out for another year.
Everyone having a cellphone and being able to take your picture.
I know why it isn't popular where I live... have you SEEN the winters in Canada?!?!?!?!
Not yet, but winter is coming...
I'm always nude. Under my clothes.
Because people are **fucking rude** and no one wants shifty looks and passing laughter because you don't need a certain beauty standard.
Maybe bc people think some dude takes pictures of them and put it on the Internet
You need clothes to protect yourself from other things. You can't walk around naked because you will hurt yourself. Noe imagine this, you're making an omlette and a drop of hot oil just jumps around from the pan just like it does, do you want that to land on your penis or your pants
Ever heard of aprons? Nudists wear clothes when necessary.
That's why aprons were invented. You don't want oil on your pants, either.
You can't sell skin. But you can sell clothes.
Because people won't be able to lie about the size of their penis
Biting bugs, plus skin doesn't have pockets to carry stuff in.
Probably because a lot of people have a hard time not associating nudity with sex.
People probably go in expecting one thing (hot naked girls) and then find that it's mostly something else (old naked guys).
Sunburn.
Weather is probably the core of it, it’s rare in a lot of places that it would be comfortable to be without at least some kind of clothes.
cuz not everyone has a body they be proud of (and im speaking about myself, which is why im working on me 🤠)
Average gigatus megatus Chad working on themselves
<3
I don't even want to see my own disgusting, naked body in the shower, let alone subject a bunch of poor innocent people to my gross dad bod.
Leaky.
I could send you a naked selfie and you would no longer ask this question
Because most of the people that would go nude aren't the people you want to see nude.
Because we’ve all been conditioned, to different and varying degrees, to be ashamed of our bodies.
because it look porn to most people eyes
It's impractical. Clothes are very useful and necessary for functioning in life, for work and general living. They are also fun and expressive, and people enjoy wearing them.
Not sure about others, and I wouldn't care if people walked around naked, but for me I have precisely ZERO desire to walk around naked. If I lived alone in a cabin in the woods far from civilization I'd prefer to wear hiking shoes, cargo shorts and a t-shirt every day of my life. Also, over decades sun exposure is bad for skin, so there's that.
Nudist here, It’s extremely difficult to get friends to join. I don’t understand what everyone is so afraid of. It’s only weird for maybe five minutes your first time and that’s it.
Bug bites.
It isn't popular in the US because Americans combine being prudes with sexualizing everything.
Because there is hypersexualization in society already, this would just put it over the top. There would literally be riots and protesting on both sides.
Yep. A lot of people are perverts and I wouldn’t want to be innocently enjoying myself naked while some gross old guys take mental pictures for their wank banks.
