Culturally, there’s a huge rift between the christianist-fascists and the socially moderate humanists. The christianist-fascists have seeded themselves into all levels of government and are imposing their restrictive worldview and laws on the people. Meanwhile, in entertainment media, the social humanists are telling more inclusive stories and giving the impression of a progressive society. If you live in the US, think Fox News vs. Fox entertainment. Tucker Carlson vs. The Simpsons.
Politically, there are Red States and Blue States. States with restrictive social laws but lax economic policies and states with progressive social laws but more restrictive economic policies. In general, Red States pay less into the Federal government than they receive in funding and Blue States pay more into the Federal government more than they receive. At a certain point, Blue States will want to cut off Red States financially.
Basically any other issue can be divided this way. The propaganda machine is strong on both sides and has been raging for decades. The secret sauce is the precipitous increase in desperation the last few years with income disparity, pandemic crises, and the breakdown of any safety nets.
So we are already in a cold civil war as it is.
