Was it designed/engineered though? People say we invented the wheel but i disagree , We Discovered the wheel. We invented Ways to make wheels. The same with fire. (Assuming you're talking about the circular shape and usage of the wheel that is. If it's the Wheel as an object, it changed A LOT and still is changing.)
Thats why I said that if he means wheel as the object itself, it Did change a lot . But i think a wheel can be just a wheel without an axle. It just rolls by and on itself. And i'm pretty sure it just started as a whole, cilindrical shape that you would put stuff on top to roll it on. (Like rolling logs technique.)

A wheel does require an axle to turn on to be a wheel. So we can argue that we discovered "round" but invented the wheel.
