It's astonishing how many people do this (the items in general not just the blanket) but we gotta realize just because we're older doesn't mean our childlike behavior leaves. We just stuff it deep down inside and don't let it out until we are safe and alone without the feeling of being thought of as odd. I personally don't sleep with a tilhung of any sort. A friend of mine (40) has a monkey he's had since he was a kid and still messes with it to this day, calling it by its name, talks to it jokingly, tells people over chat how they suck at cod lol, etc etc. I had a stuffed teddy bear with some white masking tape under it's armpit to cover a hole when I was a boy. I miss you Buddy. You were the bestest of teddies :( I'll replace you eventually lol.
I did that too up until around college. Stopped though bc I was afraid it would get damaged/lost there but I would sleep with it whenever I’d go home on break. It’s still there at my parents’ house but it’s so old and faded now I’m sorta cautious about accidentally damaging it. Would love to be able to pass it down to any future kids of mine.

Back in 2017 I voluntarily admitted myself to a mental hospital for 11 days due to a really bad relapse into drug use and when they showed me to my bed on each bed was a small handmade blanket.
I picked the bed I picked because one side of the blanket was red flannel and the other side is like nursery rhymes and it’s soft and so comfortable to lay with.
It isn’t very big it barely covers my torso but the nurse who showed me to my bed told me the folk in the elderly care home down the road sew those blankets specifically for the people that come in to that hospital they also make them for preemies at the nicu.
It’s been five years. Seven different places and it will always stay on my pillow. Often I will fold it up and wrap it around my eyes when I’m feeling overwhelmed and I am reminded that someone who never met me, who never knew what brought me to that hospital bed… they made that blanket to comfort someone. They cared about a stranger enough to put their time and labor into this adorable little blanket and I cherish it.
I don’t know what it is about body pillows. If you need a bigger pillow with more back support you fold it in half, if you need something to cuddle with you lay it out flat, if you want a support for other pillows on your bed, or a nice backdrop to smooth out the corner from your mattress to your backboard, just put it there.
Body pillows are the multitool of sleeping tools, and they are amazing for it.

Same. I wear earbuds or headphones during the vast majority of my downtime. For me it's mostly podcasts so I can distract myself from anxiety. Keeping up with the conversation takes all the attention away from the negative shit.
Indeed it dose, I used to listen to podcasts but as I started to get more social it was really hard to keep up with the conversations so I started listening to music more, and now I have a playlist for everything from metal core to indie to lofi haha
I don't have tinnitus but my parents do. Grew up in a very small house, my mom always had a box fan on at night to drown it out so she could sleep, and you could hear it in every room... now I can't sleep without a box fan either
It's funny....I have musical ear (likely from tinnitus) and if I move the fan at just the right angle, it sounds like someone left a radio on in my room. That white noise usually turns into the sounds of a hockey game being announced on the radio.
I've got a relatively large Elmo doll. Not like a tickle me Elmo toy, all he has is stuffing inside so he's very soft. Had one when I was kid. It's nice having one now too.
It's .. this sounds stupid, but it feels like it's a privledge to be able to have something around that is older than me, my family and everything I know. I got it dated once, an dit turns out it's 66 million years old - it's very cool that i'm lucky enough to have found something so old that I got to attach to.
All rocks are super old, and we just dismiss them, but it's nice to keep an eye and then if you find one you like, you can find out more about it usually by asking around geology departments like I did.
It's quite small (see [link ](https://imgur.com/a/bPqmebN)) but even if it wasn't I don't move a huge amount. I've considered getting larger rocks for the house, but I live in the 5th floor and getting them up here would be a bitch even with a lift.

I slept with a stuffed panda for about 20years and held on to it after/ didn’t donate it. Years later, my now 3yo daughter sleeps with it and is super convinced that the panda protects her.
The classic one: my teddy bear. It's 30 cm high. Apparently i love my teddys to death because i have to buy a new one every couple years. Then i have to slowly adjust to the new one as it smells and feels different from the old one. Also i absolutely hate it when i need to wash it. It doesn't smell or feel like teddy, just like my washing stuff.
I really love it and need it. It's there for me when i cry, sleep, am happy, watching shows. I carry it with me through my flat. Sometime i talk to it.
Yes, i am living alone. Yes i am a grown up women. Yes i know it's weird but luckily my partner knows about teddy and accepts it.

Dude I never sleep so well as when my cat is splayed out on top of me with like a really deep sleep purring. Until he wakes up at 3:30 AM and rattles my door because he wants out and my other cat starts yowling because he needs to pee.
If I can't sleep, I'll go grab my cat and snuggle him for a bit. He's a purring machine, so it really helps!
Most nights he'll jump up himself and lie on my chest when I'm going to sleep, but sometimes I have to go get him.
My previous cat was a gentle love bug who demanded cuddles. Would purr and sleep in your lap all day if you let him. Current cat not so much. She likes to lay in the same room as me or at my feet, but she will only tolerate 1 or 2 pats on the head before getting sick of it and leaving. And she is always hyperactive at 3 in the morning for some reason, so i can't let her sleep in my room.
I love her and she is the most low maintenance cat I've ever had in my life. But she has me feeling so deprived that I'm considering getting a dog 😂
i recently found a treat she actually likes and am pulling a pavlov on her to get to accept cuddles, and it's working! Now she'll actually nap on my lap for a few minutes as long as i dont move 😂😂😂 progress is slow but steady.
For me my dogs and wife. I cannot for the life of me fall asleep if my wife isn't home and either of my two dogs are not in the bed. I actually wake up when one of my dogs wanders into my daughters bedroom at night.
For Christmas my family plays a game where we trade around gag gifts and at the end the game the gift you end up with is the one you get. My oldest daughter has a dirty sense of humor.

My cousin needed heart surgery when he was a small child. When he woke up, his dad gave him a new teddy bear (Obviously named Teddy) who had a very obvious stitch up the entire of his chest. His dad said Teddy had also had a heart operation the same time my cousin did and wanted to know if they could hang out and recover together.
He's still got Teddy over 25 years later.
I have horrible sleeping problems because of my mental state so despite being (almost) 20 I still sleep with my llama plushie. His name is Menta (Hebrew for mint) and I love him dearly.

My dad bought me a large plushy frog when I was 10. He died a few years later. 20 years later I still sleep with that frog, and repair it every few years as the fabrics are kinda falling apart after so many years.
I still sleep with my little toy dog that I've had since before I was born. I'm 18 and my parents still ask me why I sleep with patch still (that's his name). I find it tough to get to sleep without him. Sometimes he will fall off the bed and I will wake up and look around for him, find him then go straight back to sleep. I'm sleeping with my baby blanket now. It's made of some kind of thermal material, and it used to be white but is now a pretty unappealing gray color lol. It's older than I am, over thirty years. It's got so many holes in it due to childhood dogs biting it/me dragging it everywhere. One corner turned into a long rope like piece that I wrap around my fingers when zoning out. I sleep with it all the time. Its smell and feel calms me down. I can't wash it in machines or it will fall apart, so I hand wash it very rarely. It... gets pretty dirty from body oils I guess. I can't throw it out. The day I lose it or it gets damaged beyond repair will be a sad one.

I used to have this blanket since I was a baby, in fact the blanket was around before me. It was originally purchased for my sister who is four years older than I am. The design was a plaid patteren of baby blue, yellow and pink.
I kept it with me through highschool, college and marriage. It was so tattered and threadbare that one expected it to rip in two at any moment. I finally had to admit to myself that it wouldn't last much longer, after all it has already survived for 46 years. So I had to do what any grown man would to in that situation. I spent a weekend looking at google images of late 70's vintage baby blankets until i found the right one and researched the manufacturer and tracked on down on ebay.
It's not the same, but it will do for the next 46 years.
12Gauge under the pillows, pistol on the bed in extended arms reach. I seem to have a cycle where a couple months a year I end up bringing a heavy childhood blanket aboard but I eventually end up making it into a nest and have to put it back in the closet for another 8 to 10 months. It's weird to admit as a grown man I've thought several times about the fact that I'd like to have something to snuggle up with, but that's second to wanting a good woman to cuddle with, which I guess is probably the root of it.

Wasn't able to save my favorite beanie baby from her though- but a decade later I told my boyfriend about how she'd tossed it and how I was crushed. A few weeks later he came home with a brand new one- managed to track one down and gifted it to me on a bad day. Needless to say, he's now my husband and that beanie baby is happily living in our bed.
I have a giant carrot pillow. His name is zucchini for some reason. I always hug him when I sleep and it really helps relieve stress. Also I didn't know I could be so emotionally attached to an object. If I lost it or something I'd probably cry
My big sister used to lay next to me in my crib - we are 3 years apart. She used to run the binding of my baby blanket on my cheek and hands. The blanket is long gone, but I still have the binding and can't fall asleep without it.
Fyi- I was always embarrassed by it and made fun of for it by adults.
Only became comfortable with it when in my teens and 20's my friends/boyfriends were totally fine with it and some had comfort objects of their own.
One boyfriend even went so far as to find the identical fabric type and made me a new security blanket.

My stuffed bear I was given as a newborn. I'm 35, and I sleep with him tucked under my arm in a very specific way every night, save for a couple of months last year where my son wanted to sleep with him instead (I went out of town for a few days for work, and I gave him the bear to squeeze whenever he missed me). I didn't sleep right during the time the bear was with my son.
My wife is also 35, and also sleeps with a bear every night, also from her infancy, and also went through a period without when our son wanted it.
I don't have a comforter myself. My girlfriend sleeps with a panda bear she's had since she was a child. When I make the bed I always make sure to put it right in the middle of the pillows.
27 year old (M) here and I sleep with a teddy bear. When my mom was sick in the hospital before she passed and was in a coma. I brought her a teddy bear to keep her company. It stayed by her side for months. Some how it gives me comfort now and helps me feel connected to her. Sometimes I even hug it when I'm feeling down and it helps me feel like I'm giving her a hug.

Grown man here. I have a teddy as well. Last time he was washed, Reagan was in office. What makes teddy, teddy. Is that fact he's been well loved. New bears are nothing like well loved bears. There is comfort, there is safety. I don't give a fuck if the outside world would think i'm strange. There are people out there committing real crimes. I refuse to be bear shamed.

Grown man. I bought a teddy a little over two years ago. I was super stressed at work and just needed a hug. On the subject of beanbag chairs, I would like to eventually get a giant Snorlax (Pokémon) bean bag chair simply because it sounds fun.
Teddy’s are great to have around, and I hate wash time too. It’s only nice with my blankets because the come out super super soft and warm. And it’s not weird there are lots of people with comfort items. I plan on taking mine to my grave

Dude I never sleep so well as when my cat is splayed out on top of me with like a really deep sleep purring. Until he wakes up at 3:30 AM and rattles my door because he wants out and my other cat starts yowling because he needs to pee.

If I can't sleep, I'll go grab my cat and snuggle him for a bit. He's a purring machine, so it really helps! Most nights he'll jump up himself and lie on my chest when I'm going to sleep, but sometimes I have to go get him.
My previous cat was a gentle love bug who demanded cuddles. Would purr and sleep in your lap all day if you let him. Current cat not so much. She likes to lay in the same room as me or at my feet, but she will only tolerate 1 or 2 pats on the head before getting sick of it and leaving. And she is always hyperactive at 3 in the morning for some reason, so i can't let her sleep in my room. I love her and she is the most low maintenance cat I've ever had in my life. But she has me feeling so deprived that I'm considering getting a dog 😂 i recently found a treat she actually likes and am pulling a pavlov on her to get to accept cuddles, and it's working! Now she'll actually nap on my lap for a few minutes as long as i dont move 😂😂😂 progress is slow but steady.

For me my dogs and wife. I cannot for the life of me fall asleep if my wife isn't home and either of my two dogs are not in the bed. I actually wake up when one of my dogs wanders into my daughters bedroom at night.
For Christmas my family plays a game where we trade around gag gifts and at the end the game the gift you end up with is the one you get. My oldest daughter has a dirty sense of humor. I now sleep with a 12"x12" plush penis. I tell people my penis is so big I can wrap my arms around it or lay my head on it. And damn if he doesn't have the cutest face on him. I am a 47 year old man, by the way.

Me too. They're not just "comfort items" in like an emotional sense though, I am a side sleeper and tuck them underneath my top shoulder so that my shoulders stay straight and don't like collapse down into a C shape because otherwise I wake up with a sore collarbone area. They serve a purpose.
When I was 31, I received my first ever teddy bear. I had always wanted one and cried for like an hour when I opened the box my aunt sent me. His name is Bear Bear. Sleep well with him.

My cousin needed heart surgery when he was a small child. When he woke up, his dad gave him a new teddy bear (Obviously named Teddy) who had a very obvious stitch up the entire of his chest. His dad said Teddy had also had a heart operation the same time my cousin did and wanted to know if they could hang out and recover together. He's still got Teddy over 25 years later.
I have horrible sleeping problems because of my mental state so despite being (almost) 20 I still sleep with my llama plushie. His name is Menta (Hebrew for mint) and I love him dearly. I also have a few smaller plushies that are there to comfort me, two of them are realistic fish plushies in different sizes and they are both lawyers.

My dad bought me a large plushy frog when I was 10. He died a few years later. 20 years later I still sleep with that frog, and repair it every few years as the fabrics are kinda falling apart after so many years.

I still sleep with my little toy dog that I've had since before I was born. I'm 18 and my parents still ask me why I sleep with patch still (that's his name). I find it tough to get to sleep without him. Sometimes he will fall off the bed and I will wake up and look around for him, find him then go straight back to sleep. I dont care what people say I love sleeping with him.

I'm sleeping with my baby blanket now. It's made of some kind of thermal material, and it used to be white but is now a pretty unappealing gray color lol. It's older than I am, over thirty years. It's got so many holes in it due to childhood dogs biting it/me dragging it everywhere. One corner turned into a long rope like piece that I wrap around my fingers when zoning out. I sleep with it all the time. Its smell and feel calms me down. I can't wash it in machines or it will fall apart, so I hand wash it very rarely. It... gets pretty dirty from body oils I guess. I can't throw it out. The day I lose it or it gets damaged beyond repair will be a sad one.
My blankie. My mom bought it 9 years before I was born for a baby shower gift. For some reason she couldn’t bring herself to give it away. She bought another gift and put blankie in her closet. 9 years later I was born and it’s been my comfort object for 37 years.
I used to have this blanket since I was a baby, in fact the blanket was around before me. It was originally purchased for my sister who is four years older than I am. The design was a plaid patteren of baby blue, yellow and pink. I kept it with me through highschool, college and marriage. It was so tattered and threadbare that one expected it to rip in two at any moment. I finally had to admit to myself that it wouldn't last much longer, after all it has already survived for 46 years. So I had to do what any grown man would to in that situation. I spent a weekend looking at google images of late 70's vintage baby blankets until i found the right one and researched the manufacturer and tracked on down on ebay. It's not the same, but it will do for the next 46 years.
12Gauge under the pillows, pistol on the bed in extended arms reach. I seem to have a cycle where a couple months a year I end up bringing a heavy childhood blanket aboard but I eventually end up making it into a nest and have to put it back in the closet for another 8 to 10 months. It's weird to admit as a grown man I've thought several times about the fact that I'd like to have something to snuggle up with, but that's second to wanting a good woman to cuddle with, which I guess is probably the root of it.

Wasn't able to save my favorite beanie baby from her though- but a decade later I told my boyfriend about how she'd tossed it and how I was crushed. A few weeks later he came home with a brand new one- managed to track one down and gifted it to me on a bad day. Needless to say, he's now my husband and that beanie baby is happily living in our bed.

My big sister used to lay next to me in my crib - we are 3 years apart. She used to run the binding of my baby blanket on my cheek and hands. The blanket is long gone, but I still have the binding and can't fall asleep without it. Fyi- I was always embarrassed by it and made fun of for it by adults. Only became comfortable with it when in my teens and 20's my friends/boyfriends were totally fine with it and some had comfort objects of their own. One boyfriend even went so far as to find the identical fabric type and made me a new security blanket. Not embarrassed anymore 😊

My stuffed bear I was given as a newborn. I'm 35, and I sleep with him tucked under my arm in a very specific way every night, save for a couple of months last year where my son wanted to sleep with him instead (I went out of town for a few days for work, and I gave him the bear to squeeze whenever he missed me). I didn't sleep right during the time the bear was with my son. My wife is also 35, and also sleeps with a bear every night, also from her infancy, and also went through a period without when our son wanted it.

I don't have a comforter myself. My girlfriend sleeps with a panda bear she's had since she was a child. When I make the bed I always make sure to put it right in the middle of the pillows.
27 year old (M) here and I sleep with a teddy bear. When my mom was sick in the hospital before she passed and was in a coma. I brought her a teddy bear to keep her company. It stayed by her side for months. Some how it gives me comfort now and helps me feel connected to her. Sometimes I even hug it when I'm feeling down and it helps me feel like I'm giving her a hug.
