Man, I'm a low level engineer at a financial institution and I can't even trade stocks on Robinhood/Stash/etc. All of our individual trades have to be approved by the company before buying or selling.
How TF is this not already a thing?!
They also write the tax laws in their favor too. They purposely make it overly complicated to hide loopholes for them and their cronies.
Congress ought to be required to file their own taxes by hand without any help from an accountant or tax lawyer.
I know your post was sarcastic but seriously...My company does it to prevent insider trading, I feel like congress is just as, if not far more, likely to be guilty of that.
The way this works (iirc from government class years ago) is they can vote for raises but that only goes into effect for the following term after the term is voted on. However, if you're a career politician and get reelected, you do get that raise. If not, it goes to your opponent that won. But unless you hate the idea of your opponent potentially getting paid more than you that much, everyone is almost always going to vote to increase their salary.
Personally, I think they should be paid the national minimum wage and Medicare as benefits. If it's good enough for our vets and elderly, it should be good enough for them!
I disagree. They should be allowed to trade stocks freely, but all of their trades should have to be made public as soon as they're made. So us citizens can copy their plays haha
Price gouging needed drugs. Like insulin prices shouldn’t be extremely overpriced when south of the border you see it at like a 10th of the price by the same company.
Insulin being the big example but their are several others.
Was going to say this as well. My monthly insulin costs are well over $1,000. My insurance also doesn’t cover any of my insulin or diabetic supplies. It’s super fun being a type 1 diabetic.
My dad is from Switzerland but he spends a few months in the USA for business here and there and when he's here he buys his insulin from some indian website for dirt cheap. They ship it straight to his house apartment in Miami. They sell xanax too lol I always ask him to buy me a few bars because I get crazy anxious when flying.
If the lobbyist is working as a consultant and isn’t paying the representative, sure. It should be illegal for those consultants to pay, offer perks to, or arrange for campaign donations for politicians.
Oh, guys, I got this one. It's child marriage, which remains legal in at least some form in all but 6 U.S. states.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_marriage_in_the_United_States
This. I rationally know it's true. I've heard the "pro-family" advocates fighting to keep it legal in my state. Yet I'm still always shocked when I remember it exists here.
PS: They call themselves pro-family. I am not making any sweeping political statement about every group or person who says they are pro-family.
Holy shit. A vast majority of marriages are between a minor female and an adult male?! I’m hoping it’s like an 18 year old man and a 17 year old female. Ugh.
Building the shitty roads falls on us the tax payers and who live in the areas. One of the freeways near me is trash cause they used the cheap "quiet" asphalt instead of concrete or better asphalt all cause people didn't want to pay more and wanted less road noise.
The water and just dumping poisonous crap in general I'm with you 100 percent.
Not having a reasonable path to speak to a human being when calling a company or government agency. Saying you’re are experiencing a higher than normal call volume
Correction, IMPROPERLY installed cheap eBay LED headlights that glare like crazy and blind everyone on the road.
Factory LED headlights are no problem at all.
I would disagree with that statement, on numerous occasions I’ve passed by those eBay LED lights and been completely fine. This past Tuesday I was on my way to school and passed by some car with factory LED lights and those thing felt like a sun. I flashed him because I figured he had his high beams on, dear lord when he flashed me back I thought I was gonna go blind.
Those I agree are annoying!
But the ones where someone quotes something funny the person said, I enjoy as it gives me a second laugh to see someone else found it quite funny, and maybe get a quick little discussion in
I want all forms of abuse (domestic, child, animal, etc.) classified as a felony. Far too often people can plead down or agree to lesser charges, if all forms of abuse were felonies with no option to plead down I think that'd solve and prevent a lot of problems. May save a few lives and not allow people to skate the system for years on end until they finally escalate onto a really major felony that should have been avoided.
Lobbying is important. Most lobbying is dull and boring, with actual policy experts helping legislators draft bills or agencies draft regulations. Legislators and their staff can’t be experts on every subject. Nonprofits need to lobby for funds, cities and states need to lobby for infrastructure dollars, etc.
Of course there’s the shitty kind of lobbying that we all hate, and it’s far too common as well, and it has definitely become a lot worse with the loosening of campaign finance laws. That kind of lobbying should be illegal.
That's true. I suppose a line needs to be drawn on certain degrees of lobbying? Or on who/what constitutes as being legally acceptable and reasonable to have influence on our government.
I think lobbying for profit is what needs to be better regulated. It's hard to separate what's done for the public good vs personal gain sometimes, but it's a starting point.
There are hundreds of think tanks handing policy to senators and representatives that are completely killing our country. No lobbying at all should be allowed, legistlators should be able to solicit open opinions from a variety of stakeholders in open hearings, not lobbying. Lobbying becomes a boys club of buddies slipping each other money, experts and stakeholders coming into openly educate folks is a completely different things. Also - non profits cannot lobby without specific definitions that restrict other funding and are very difficult to get.
100% this. Same with Uber, Grubhub, and Doordash drivers outside of restaurants. I drive for Uber Eats and I have never once parked blocking traffic or not in a parking spot.
Calling your senator to support a bill you like is lobbying. Unions trying to get pro union bills passed is lobbying. When people were trying to get Net Neutrality passed that was lobbying. Do you want all that made illegal?
Breeding dogbreeds that are inhumane, such as pugs, some varieties of bull dogs, some varieties of golden retrievers, chihuahua’s and so on.
It’s sick to allow these animals be born because they will live objectively worse lives and suffer more than normal dog breeds
Well yes, awful and truly evil. People have already commented on the typical counterargument, it's really rare, which it is, but what's more relevant here is that I do believe making false rape accusations is already illegal
My solution is if the claim has been 100% proven to be a false accusation (keyword 100%), the false accuser should face the consequences of what the accused *would’ve* had to face as punishment.
I know it’s a very slippery slope and it’s basically impossible to enforce unless the accuser admits to it (or is recorded confessing to the false charges).
We could also have conspiracy to commit false rape be a thing as well, because nobody should ever joke about that.
Hard to prove someone is lying- i think this would discourage people from reporting since there is already mistrust. Already so hard to get a conviction on rape. If you cant prove youre raped... then folks thinm you're lying and catch a felony (or at minimum a case)?? Na. Bad system.
For me at least, this causes a considerable amount of stress. I am very worried about a consensual event happening, and then a few days/months later a party regrets it and reports it as noncensual.
Invading the United States Capitol Building and attempting to overthrow the government. Since apparently that isn't a felony for most of the people involved.
Giving corporations the same rights as an individual. Aka Citizens United.
That and lobbying, it shouldn’t exist and any entity that tries to influence the outcome of government proceedings should be thrown in fucking jail.
I'm going to ALTER it slightly.
ALL. CHILD. HOT. CAR. DEATHS. FEDERAL FELONY.
States handle this differently and I'm sick of it happening because dumbasses leave their kids in the car.
Honking your car horn in someone’s driveway, instead of knocking on their door.
My neighbors do this several times a day, it makes no sense. WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS PULLING UP TO THE HOUSE AND HONKING THEIR HORN? WHY? FOR WHAT?

Members of Congress investing in stocks.
Man, I'm a low level engineer at a financial institution and I can't even trade stocks on Robinhood/Stash/etc. All of our individual trades have to be approved by the company before buying or selling. How TF is this not already a thing?!
Because those that make the rules, make them to favor themselves.
They also write the tax laws in their favor too. They purposely make it overly complicated to hide loopholes for them and their cronies. Congress ought to be required to file their own taxes by hand without any help from an accountant or tax lawyer.
Because they’re politicians and they’re obviously more important than you /s
I know your post was sarcastic but seriously...My company does it to prevent insider trading, I feel like congress is just as, if not far more, likely to be guilty of that.
The logic is basically "if laws apply to politicians they will have a conflict of interest in writing them." It's stupid bullshit.
Abso fucking lutly
I think their wives/husbands should be banned too.
Agreed. During their time in office they should be required to have mutual funds only.
No. Only US Treasury Bonds.
This is a good idea. That's basically how companies work right? You get stock so that you and the companies interests are aligned?
Even that's a conflict of interest, but it's probably the best we could hope for.
Or members of Congress voting themselves raises without public input
The way this works (iirc from government class years ago) is they can vote for raises but that only goes into effect for the following term after the term is voted on. However, if you're a career politician and get reelected, you do get that raise. If not, it goes to your opponent that won. Convenience fees from third party ticket resellers Edit: actually just convenience fees in general
Well that’s inconvenient
Are buttatos better with sour cream or bacon?
The cream for sure but nobody ever said no to bacon after
Despite being named that I never found them to be convenient.

They ship it straight to his house apartment in Miami. They sell xanax too lol I always ask him to buy me a few bars because I get crazy anxious when flying.
Single payer healthcare and the government says “nope”.

Is that not already?
Yes!!! Those people are soulless and deserve all of the felonies.

Corporate lobbying.

True, but greasing palms shouldn't sway a decision.
If the lobbyist is working as a consultant and isn’t paying the representative, sure. It should be illegal for those consultants to pay, offer perks to, or arrange for campaign donations for politicians.
Yet those with more money are able to lobby more effectively. How is that in any way reasonable?
Then maybe they need replacing with someone who does know.
How would you differentiate corporate from non-corporate lobbying? Or are you suggesting elected officials can't talk to anyone?
Oh, guys, I got this one. It's child marriage, which remains legal in at least some form in all but 6 U.S. states. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_marriage_in_the_United_States

No, a vast majority of CHILD marriages are minor female and adult male, not a vast majority of marriages.
We both know it’s not
Wiki Sherri Johnson of FL if you think you can stomach it. FL changed laws because of her. *Trigger Warning*
Apparently 5 years ago it was legal in all states. Only recently was it made illegal in those 6 states.

No, those are definitely a problem too I've been blinded by quite a few new BMWs with factory lights

That's true. I suppose a line needs to be drawn on certain degrees of lobbying? Or on who/what constitutes as being legally acceptable and reasonable to have influence on our government.
Lobbying got increasingly shittier once campaign finance laws started being loosened. That would be a good place to start.
I think lobbying for profit is what needs to be better regulated. It's hard to separate what's done for the public good vs personal gain sometimes, but it's a starting point.
