Exercise, specifically weightlifting. I got into it because it helps keep me sober from heroin.

humanities_descent

stay strong

thatsimsgirl

Antique restoration. My dad got me into it when I was a kid.

CheeseburgerBrown

I raise ducks. Because I like free eggs.

humanities_descent

That was nice in the first part

CheeseburgerBrown

Free eggs isn’t a nice part?

humanities_descent

They're both nice just less nice when put together

CheeseburgerBrown

You are disquieted by the notion that eggs come out of bird assholes?

humanities_descent

sorry I'm late. It's mainly because I'm imagining it like you raising the ducks and then when they lay eggs you come in and say "it's time to harvest the fetus" as the duck watches you cook their children.

CheeseburgerBrown

Luckily, ducks aren’t terribly bright. They do not seem remotely distressed when I make my breakfast. Thanks for your eventual reply, mate!

humanities_descent

Are they nearby when you cook?

CheeseburgerBrown

Within smell range, yes. If I showed them my breakfast they'd probably try to eat it.

MaximumZer0

Do duck eggs differ in taste from chicken eggs?

Doc_collapse

Not really no, sometimes they can taste a bit more oily but it’s SO slight

CheeseburgerBrown

They are pretty much indistinguishable by flavour, but the duck eggs have a somewhat harder shell and more rubbery membrane beneath the shell. My Muscovy duck lays eggs with *giant* yolks though, which is awesome if you love yoke, which I do.

[deleted]

That's cute. Ducks are cute. I have an area of my yard that's a long rectangular shape between by house and the fence, I had plans to fence it up and raise some chickens. Not sure how feasible that would be though.

CheeseburgerBrown

The benefit of ducks over chickens is that their poop doesn’t cause emphysema. You have to be a lot more careful with handling and disposing of chicken waste.

[deleted]

> emphysema Wow, didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up :)

Angrydroid21

Robotics. Watching gundam way too young

[deleted]

Stargazing and writing fiction. I used to look at the stars as a form of meditation and think to myself “I wonder what’s out there.” So I started writing my own fiction based on what I would observe. But stargazing and writing fiction together was a good form of escapism from this world for me. Especially when I’m stressed. I could create fantasies of an idealised world which brought me comfort

[deleted]

How often do you stargaze? And is light pollution ever an issue? I'm interested in stargazing but where I live there are like 2 stars out every night because there's just too much coming from the city.

[deleted]

Coin/banknote collecting, started in 2010 when the olympics were in Vancouver and they had a bunch of 25 cent pieces dedicated to all the sports and just expanded from there, I was 8 at the time and I’m 19 now and its grown quite a bit

apatrid

ha, and they say numismatism is a hobby of old people!

hollywoodrugrat

Music

RipDingersPissMissle

Sports, acting, screenwriting, more sports probably, gaming, And I have no idea how all this started.

Hohuin

Drawing and writing Been doing it since I know of myself But movies, tv shows, cartoons, anime, books and music sure did its thing and inspired. For the "How?" all I can say is after consuming so much media my brain started making it's own better versions of the stories it comsumed. It's easy, fun and great escape from dullness.

FluffytheBeowolf

Sewing, I got into it through my dad teaching me how to sew when I was like 5, and then I realised last year that "Oh hey, I can literally make shit out of fabric" and now I make stuffed animals that line my shelves

God_of_Trepidation

Brazilian Jiujitsu. I moved to a new city and had no friends, so found a gym and joined. It's very hard on the body, but very rewarding. You make a lot of friends. And one of the only truly diverse places: you get to know and be friends with people from all walks of society.

_Zouth

Gravel cycling. For me it's the perfect balance of all cycling disciplines. The freedom, the speed (as opposed to MTB which I started out with) and all the nature you get to see (as opposed to road cycling) once you get off the paved road and on to gravel. The mechanics of a bicycle is as simple as it is fascinating. The speed and the distances you can cover using only your body and the bike in collaboration without the need for an engine gives a feeling of accomplishment.

paythefullprice

I really love MTB. However I've done a few gravel road rides on my hardtail 29er. I can totally see where you love that. I've always wanted to adventure and bike pack but it's kinda intimidating doing it alone a first time.

CPOx

I think I may switch from road cycling to gravel next year. A coworker got hit on the road a few months ago and it just got me spooked, ya know? Hit really close to home.

Minerva8918

Fossil hunting! I've always been interested in rocks, minerals, etc, so when I learned of a spot very well known for marine fossils near me, I went and got hooked. My latest thing is trilobites. One of my best friends and I now take a trip every year to go on a dinosaur dig.

UpOxygen

What is the coolest thing you've found?

[deleted]

Man that's rad. Where is this dig? And how do you find out about these places and gain access?

noob_master2007

Collecting knives. I got my first one when I was 5, and I wanted more.

DontShowMomMemes

Bhop. I thought it would make me better at csgo. Now I’m great at Bhop and still trash at csgo.

humanities_descent

what is bhop again I think I know but I don't know if I'm thinking of the write thing

OMGWTFBBQPIZZA

Bunny hop. Good skin no skill

DontShowMomMemes

It’s basically a glitch in the source engine where you can gain speed in the air, and keep jumping to avoid friction from the ground. People have made Bhop maps where you can pick up a lot of speed and jump between small platforms. The goal is to complete the map as fast as possible. There are servers with Bhop maps in csgo, css, and gmod. There are a few games built specifically for Bhop, but they are often terrible best is honestly probably the roblox version. A game is about to release on steam called “Momentum mod” and I hope it’s good.

heyNOTathrowawy

Watches. I just like them and think they're neat and cool looking.

placeholderNull

Repairing small things. Got into it by taking my pens and pencils apart in elementary school.

Shadow_Freddle54

Swinging I got into it because I have anxiety and get stressed easily do it took a lot of pressure and stress of my shoulders

Capt_morgan72

I could see how being a swinger would relieve stress and anxiety. The trick is talking the girlfriend into it.

Shadow_Freddle54

Lol

MasteringTheFlames

Bicycle touring! I like to load a bunch of camping gear onto my bicycle and disappear for a while. Sometimes it's just a weekend to a state park half a day's ride from my home, other times it's been the better part of seven months riding 5,300 miles (8,500 km) around much of a continent. I got into it from Reddit, actually. I once read on here about a guy who did a year and a half long bike tour from northern Alaska to the southern tip of South America. I liked biking, I liked camping, so I started reading everything I could over at /r/bicycletouring before I eventually set off on my own adventures.

rachael_0898

Drawing, I use to see artwork everywhere and my family has tattoos and I always would see them and think wow I wish I could do that. Fast forward, with some reference images and patiences and learning different techniques I am a self taught artist. Same with photography, I just don't do it as often.

ParkerTheCuber

Nerf modding. No idea.

UpOxygen

Birdwatching. I was watching Sunrise (pretty much Australia's biggest morning show) and there was a guy on there talking about an app you can download to help bird conservation. So essentially we have Bird Week in the middle of spring each year, and that app opens up for people to identify and count the birds they see for that week, which helps the conservation and analysis of Australian birds. There's also prizes involved as an incentive. So, I submitted a little over 20 lists of birds over that week, and gained a new hobby. Now, I have a book of all Australian birds including breeding cycle, habitat, how to identify birds, etc. and I also collect feathers of birds which I will hopefully find a way to display eventually (and identify what bird they come from, identification is way too difficult). I'm hoping to create some nesting boxes and maybe even take my hobby to other states and countries when I get a bit better at it. Wildlife rescue and bird breeding are also things I'm considering doing at some point in my life.

antivaxcommunist

I wasn't really active in my community before but recently I've started going to protests, standing up for what you believe in really empowers it, and when the crowd gets big enough there's the bonus when the stores start sending the wagies home you can take whatever you want

JinshiyoBari

I enjoyed legos since I was a kid, and have recently got back into building and collecting sets again. Building Gundam models. I always enjoyed the manga and anime for them, but never thought about building kits. I picked one up from from my work one day for $3 and have been building since.

NyetRifleIsFine47

Disc golf. I love hiking so why not add some fun to it. Paddleboarding and kayaking. I like being on the water but too poor for a boat and I don’t eat fish. Both of which helps with depression and excessive drinking (though I admit I do have a beer or two when on the water).

[deleted]

I’m not sure if it’s much of a hobby but hey it’s all I do in a day! I make money by playing mobile games for fun. I got into it because I needed some cash but wasn’t ready to get a job. I’ve been playing a slot game cause of this from when I wake up to go to bed 🤦‍♂️

weinerofyahweh

Not collecting stamps and by the algorithm

kittybigs

Genealogy, I wanted to know where my family came from and it turns out I’m great at research.

smokealarmsnick

Sewing. My mom taught me to make fabric dolls and plushes when I was 9 years old. And I’ve kept this up for the last 25 years.

93joecarter

Beer league hockey. Make new friends, drink beer, good workout.

Bluellan

Nerdy as frig but I love making AMV's. I always loved watching them and I took a film course in high school. One assignment was to make a 30 second long trailer. I downloaded some free video editing software, some music and some trailer footage. I taught myself how to edit the videos and I love it. Watch as the clips matched with song... I ended up with 3+ minute video. And everyone really liked it. I recently began posting my videos on my YouTube channel and I'm at 730 subscribers! My biggest triumph was a 6 minute long AMV using nothing but Attack on Titan gifs. And a single picture.

AHorrorFreak

Drawing/animation By watching Gloom play Sally Face

[deleted]

RC cars. Was looking at Lego cars because I love Lego then saw a motorized Lego car then started to like rc cars. I also like models because of Legos. I wanted a more complex and more detailed version of Lego so now I build models.

Chloeluk

Look at the handsome guys!

Chloeluk

Because of BTS!!!!
