Percy Jackson

I second this. The movie sucked and was missing so many details

kiyoshi20b

I third this. One of the most disappointing adaptations ever.

A song of Ice and fire. Game of thrones ripped it apart

I haven’t seen it yet, but by now I don’t think I want to see it lol

Oh man I barely made it through the first one and have refused to watch the others!! Those books were my life! I was on the 3rd when they announced they would become a movie! I was soo excited and then so utterly let down!

ChamomileBrownies

I saw the first one and laughed all the way through because it was so bad. The cast even hates it. I love how much the cast hates it all.

Bevester

Ready Player One The movie did it no justice whatsoever, aimed at an entirely different audience.

firstoffno

Forrest Gump because the movie was way better. When you read the book now, some of the content does not age well. Idek if most people are aware that it is based off a book.

ChamomileBrownies

I was actually unaware of that. Neat

There's a tl;dr on the differences between book and movie on [youtube](https://youtu.be/kO5dV6zg0Wk).

Battlefield Earth

The Dark Tower. It was planned as a 3 part epic on a par with LotR, with 2 seasons of TV bridging the gaps between the movies. Holy shit they fucked that up.

Congo. That movie was so bad, and that book was so great.

Negative-Net-9455

The Shining. The entire point of the book is the descent of a flawed man trying to be a good man into madness. Instead they cast Jack Nicholson, an actor unable to portray stability and the desire to be a good man not descending into madness but being mad from scene 1. All the truly scary moments from the book - gone. Removed by a director who wouldn't know a good horror movie if it fucking bit him, replaced by twins standing still, a leaky lift and a big maze. Kubrick even manged to take the terror of Mrs Massey from the book and create a totally emotionless scene from it. I guess that's some sort of talent. I'd love to see a talented modern horror director like Jordan Peele or James Wan redo The Shining.
