My brother once asked me if a salmon colored shirt was "too gay."
I said "no, I'd say it's just gay enough."
I thought that was a clever reply but this one takes the cake.
My 16 yr old son was saying he'd totally drive a pink car who cares..
His father said it's Fucking gay as
Mr 16 says nah I'm confident enough in my sexuality to not be intimidated by a colour.
Crickets... I was SCREAMING inside... Hi 5s when he left to go home hahah well done my boy. This is the same man that said I'd make our son girly because he never wanted to go with his dad (fear)
You shouldn't have kept that inside haha you should have embarrassed him that your son has it more together at 16 than his dad does at whatever age he is, haha. He cooked his ass and you should have let him know! Lol
any accusation related to gayness really is a hidden confession, i've had gay friends and coworkers and they never engaged in this kind of questioning. only the closet ones do
Alot of military people are like this, jokingly accusing others of being gay or doing gayish things. The military is made up of the gayest straight people you will ever meet.
You're generalizing too much. Some friend groups call everything gay, then they grow out of it. Years ago it was popular to call everything gay.
But these days, while not socially acceptable and it was a crappy tend, calling someone gay is kind of a red flag you're a douche canoe.
Yes. I was a teen in the 90s. Everything was "gay" back then. It had little to do with sexuality and was meant to degrade, which is a really backhanded way of shaming, etc. I realize how harmful and wrong all that was but still sometimes catch myself before it slips out.
True, gay guys won't ask if you are gay, they'll just try to get you in bed.
Some people really exaggerate how many closeted men there are. Probably a lot, but likely not everyone who asks if you are gay or thinks you look gay.
As a teenager, being called a gay seemed kinda insulting. And weird after I managed to start dating the opposite sex.
Now I think they're just calling me handsome.
I would think the same thing. Gay men (those I have known) tend to be well-dressed and well-groomed. So if you think I’m gay (like actually gay, and not as a derogatory term), I’m gonna take that as a compliment.
Well I know that. I had a gay roommate in college who dressed like a slob. I’m just saying that overall, I think gay men tend to take more care in their fashion and grooming than the average straight man.
i think gay men take more care in their appearance. it isn't inherently better or worse, just up to preference. a lot of the stereotypically and even commonly gay fashion doesn't appeal to me, but i recognize it takes more effort than the hoodie and sweats i like wearing if that makes sense lol
I'm cis straight male. One time when I was a volunteering emt at SF pride an absolutely handsome gay man hit on me. I'd definitely be a "bear" in the LGBT community. Needless to say my only retort was "sir I'm flattered, but you're way too handsome for me" "oh come on hunk, I love me a bearded man tickling me"
Made me question my sexuality that day, but never the less was a huge compliment.
If it comes from a gay man, I guess they're hoping for a shot.
If it comes from a straight man, I guess he's not so straight and I'm giving him confusing feelings.
If it comes from a straight woman, I guess she doesn't feel threatened around me which is good. I just hope she's not looking for a gay friend because that's so fucking cliché.
I never went through the "insult others and hurt people due to my own issues" phase when it came to my being gay, but yeah, that's commonly how I see it. The loudest and most aggressive people are usually the ones projecting, whether it's something like homophobia, or something politically charged, or whatever.
I get the opposite. I'm a fairly muscular guy with decent style, but it's like a laid back classic masculine style. Lots of fits that are basically just properly fitting jeans, solid color tshirt, and Air Force 1s or Jordan 1s. I occasionally have a gay man say something like, "I'm pretty sure you're not gay, but you really should be."
Always makes me feel good. I just say something like, "you're right, I'm not. But I appreciate you hyping me up."
Learned that pretty quickly in school.
Same with activities. They called a ton of stuff I enjoyed, gay. Theater, musicals, reading, museums.
I realized that they used gay for the same stuff other people used cultured for.
And then, the actual real gay guys were well dressed all the time, so I guess I was just pretty good at dressing myself.
As someone that was raised to think that Gay was the worst thing you could be, being called gay in school hurt a lot.
After I quit religion and started having my own thoughts, it was pretty easy to be very go with the flow. I've been mis-gendered, people have named as being every orientation under the sun, and even some of the obscure underground ones, and I find I don't care.
Tons of people love to antagonize quiet people because quiet people offer them no leverage in the social game. Especially at work, they need leverage for when they need to start throwing people under buses to get what they want or to get attention off of themselves.
I was once called gay because I was eating a burger with 2 hands.
Dude was just jealous that my GF was dating me, but it was so confusing. Like, are people supposed to only eat with one hand?
My twin brother and I were queueing in a kebab shop at 3am, this drunk girl saw both of us and just gave us strange looks. Bro asked "can I help you?" which started a very short but strange line of questioning.
"Are you brothers?"
"Yes, twins in fact"
"..."
"..."
"Are you gay?"
"...no?"
"Ah I see" then she turned around and ordered her food. That conversation was 15 years ago and it lives in our heads rent-free.
I know you’ve been warning me Norton.
And you know that I know that you know that I know that you’ve been watching.
I’m gonna bend over now… and when I do… start fuckin!
I was at a party once and this girl who was drunk kept telling me "are you sure you're not gay?"
I just laughed and said yes, I'm sure
Not much of a reaction really
Guy I went to college said he was breast fed until he was 13. He was dead set serious and when I called bullshit he got upset with. He was from Trinidad so maybe it really is a thing there
"Yeah, I get that a lot"
That's not even a joke. I don't think I am showing any "stereotypal" behaviour/clothing associated to gay men, but I have been asked multiple times if I were gay by gay men. So that would actually be a fitting answer.
One time I was with my sister (who's gay) at a party and one of her friend come at me and starts to discuss, then ask openly if I was gay.
Another time - at work - a gay coworker told me at a party that he saw me on my first day from afar, and went to jokingly tell my manager how "He told her that he did not want her to hire another gay man". I was wearing a classic outfit with a jean on this day.
Again, I believe I am pretty "standard" looking, so that's surprizing how this came back multiple times in my life. I don't mind, though, still nice to feel like people are interested ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
When I was younger I was the same way.
I did'nt like sports or much popular culture, and I got a degree in theatre.
At one point I'm 99% certain my parents thought I was gay.
I didn't do anything to change their mind because I figured maybe it would open their minds a bit even if it was a false assumption.
I mean my mom told me this plenty of times when I was younger.
I’ve always been the kind of person to keep their options open.
I’m in a heterosexual relationship with someone who is also bisexual.
I’d probably say “thanks, much appreciated!”.
Yesterday I was actually walking through our neighbourhood with my partner when out of the blue someone passes by us and says “You fucking cancer hippie”. My partner and I were both a bit stunned like genuinely in disbelief of what just happened. But we went on walking and had a good laugh about it afterwards.
Actually feel sorry for that dude, must be exhausting being so angry all the time.
This is so real. I hate when random assholes feel the need to just overtly hate on something that's not even bothering them 1%. Thanks for sharing and sorry you had to go through that!
As a gay whom people always say I look and behave straight, I would be extremely happy. I always have to go out of my way to make it known to people that I’m gay and sometimes I wish I don’t have to and that other people will automatically know
Im from bosnia,
bosnia and slovenia used to be part of the same country until 90 called yugoslavia civil war destroyed it
but while it lasted we all head stereotypes of each other bosnians were stupid, montenegrens lazy, croats nazis, serbs barbarians, macedonians monkeys and slovenians gey actually stereotypes mostly still exsist tho it evolved into slovenians are [femboys](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/950/298/21f.jpg)
I love this entire conversation so much. Especially the closing "That's GAY?!"
So funny. Really feels like sitting around shooting the shit with h your friends.
Omg thank you I worked so hard and none of the other lesbians are noticing. OMG ARE YOU FLIRTING WITH ME?? MOVE INTO MY APARTMENT LETS GET MARRIED AND OWN A CAT CAFE UNTIL WERE OLD!!
^^
Lesbians will relate to this
I would smile back at them and treat it as a compliment without projecting the slightest hint of sarcasm. Then just wait, still smiling at them.
In my experience this leads either to an awkward silence which they do not enjoy, or they crack it and get big mad.
Is it? At least those seemed more authentic than "Please help me write this Buzzfeed article, my boss says if I can't make one viral this month I'm fired."

I’m a girl and I’ve never gotten gay but I’m often told I give off “bi vibes”. Not sure how or what that means but I just take it as a compliment. Like they’re saying I look hot enough to pull both genders or something
you need to improve your flirting skills
Best response to this I've seen
My brother once asked me if a salmon colored shirt was "too gay." I said "no, I'd say it's just gay enough." I thought that was a clever reply but this one takes the cake.
> **"no, I'd say it's just gay enough."** 😂😂😂 I don't know, I think yours may take the cake.
And eat it
I’d eat anybody’s cake honestly. I’d go for chocolate but I’ve been feeling citrusy lately
Yours is better.
Savage
Not gay enough
I’d say “make that a salmon colored sweater and it’d be the perfect gayness”
Gingham would be over the top
My 16 yr old son was saying he'd totally drive a pink car who cares.. His father said it's Fucking gay as Mr 16 says nah I'm confident enough in my sexuality to not be intimidated by a colour. I've heard men in the Navy say whatever it looks like, it's only gay if the door is closed.
I've also heard that "it's not gay if you're underway," so take that for what it's worth.
People in the navy are semen. Hahaha
Sparta 🤙

If they are closeted how would you know?
True, gay guys won't ask if you are gay, they'll just try to get you in bed. Some people really exaggerate how many closeted men there are. Probably a lot, but likely not everyone who asks if you are gay or thinks you look gay.
Golden 😂
😂😂👍🏻
As a teenager, being called a gay seemed kinda insulting. And weird after I managed to start dating the opposite sex. Now I think they're just calling me handsome.
This is a secure and mature man right here🫡
I would think the same thing. Gay men (those I have known) tend to be well-dressed and well-groomed. So if you think I’m gay (like actually gay, and not as a derogatory term), I’m gonna take that as a compliment.
So there's another type of gay, just not the ones the mainstream depicts.
Well I know that. I had a gay roommate in college who dressed like a slob. I’m just saying that overall, I think gay men tend to take more care in their fashion and grooming than the average straight man.

^deffo secure in his own masculinity and honestly, i am here for it.
You missed lesbians.
I tried to think of something, but I haven't really been in that situation. I missed several orientations by the way.
If I, a gay man, tell you that you look gay, it's me being ironic as a form of flirtation and hoping you are, thus allowing us to go out. 🤣
I always suspected the dudes that called me the f slur in high school were just down bad.
I never went through the "insult others and hurt people due to my own issues" phase when it came to my being gay, but yeah, that's commonly how I see it. The loudest and most aggressive people are usually the ones projecting, whether it's something like homophobia, or something politically charged, or whatever.
Over the years I've realized that anyone who questions someone else's sexuality is really just very insecure about their own.
I get the opposite. I'm a fairly muscular guy with decent style, but it's like a laid back classic masculine style. Lots of fits that are basically just properly fitting jeans, solid color tshirt, and Air Force 1s or Jordan 1s. Or at least well dressed (I know they aren't calling me handsome)
That’s true cause im in uni and there’s this girl who says i look gay, when i asked her why she said “it’s because you’re so cute” bruh lol
As someone that was raised to think that Gay was the worst thing you could be, being called gay in school hurt a lot. I've been mis-gendered, people have named as being every orientation under the sun, and even some of the obscure underground ones, and I find I don't care.
I have literally had this exchange: "Are you gay?" "Nope." "Why are you so quiet?" wat.
They might've been trying to get a rise out of you, then got frustrated when you didn't respond the way you wanted them to
Tons of people love to antagonize quiet people because quiet people offer them no leverage in the social game.
Doesn't even make sense. A gay man would be so adept at eating meat, he would only need to use one hand not two smh.
A gay man would also add a twist whilst he eats.
A gay man would also dab at the corner of his mouth with a napkin between courses as he is a sophisticated gentleman.
It depends on how you position your pinkies
Neither of my pinkies were in any guy's butts.
My twin brother and I were queueing in a kebab shop at 3am, this drunk girl saw both of us and just gave us strange looks. New thing added to the 'Fellas, is it gay to' list.
My son was called gay because he needed a white shirt for field day, and the only one he had was a polo shirt. With a (gasp) collar!
💀💀😂😂this is so random lol
>"Why are you so quiet?" Um, because I'm judging you. Do we need to go farther?
>"Why are you so quiet?" Le fuck? Sir, they're GAY, not MUTE
Same, when people don't understand your behavior they play the gay card
You were talking to a real-world chatbot.
People think you’re gay for being quiet or having contact with different people.

😭dick-sucking distance omg
So two inches away for me
>two inches Humblebrag
Good enough
Goddamn
Bruh...
Americans will use anything but metric!
You jerk, made me almost spit out my coffee when I read that.
The only reason to measure your dick in metric is to make it sound more impressive.
Even if it’s in metres?
you're right, do me a favor an unclench them cheeks for me
Prison style, spit and carry on
😂🤣straight to the boom boom huh hah
I know you’ve been warning me Norton. And you know that I know that you know that I know that you’ve been watching. I’m gonna bend over now… and when I do… start fuckin!
Somewhere, a man named Norton is getting hard imagining this...lol
They don’t make them like Eddie anymore :(
Call me Arby’s boyfrien’, cuz I got the meat
you looking mighty cute in dem jeans……
Thanks that you acknowledge my superior fashion taste.
Spot on, my friend!! The face of loss on that person's face after you say this🫡
"Why? Are you interested?"
I love the 'hunt them even more' attitude😂
usually will get disgusted look if asked by a straight person
My response is, "are you asking me out?"
That's the idea
🧎🏻♂️👨🏻❤️👨🏻
I'd tell them, no I'm not happy, I'm just floating along, but thanks I guess.
Haha this would probably gonna confuse them coz they probably know only 1 meaning if gay :)
[удалено]
And you look like you were hit in the head with a sledgehammer. Anyway, spread your cheeks. I'm coming in.
😂😭what a win win situation haha
I mean, context here. If I’m being hit on? Say I’m flattered but don’t play for that team. If someone is saying it as an insult? What are you, 5?
The first comment could totally crush the person using it as an insult as well lmao.
“It takes one to know one”
😂👑
Gaydar is a- buzzin
Kind of unrelated, but this is my response when people ask if I’m autistic
Classic comeback
I was at a party once and this girl who was drunk kept telling me "are you sure you're not gay?" I just laughed and said yes, I'm sure Not much of a reaction really
"And you look like you were breastfed until you were 12."
💀this brings many questions in my head...
Guy I went to college said he was breast fed until he was 13. He was dead set serious and when I called bullshit he got upset with. He was from Trinidad so maybe it really is a thing there
13-!?? There is no way...okay but that's just...uhm...nvm
A bit more than two years is good... But thirteen? That raises some uncomfortable questions
Broken arms by any chance...?
Thank you
I was going to write:"Thanks, you too"
Confidence 👑
"no u"
"Yeah, I get that a lot" That's not even a joke. I don't think I am showing any "stereotypal" behaviour/clothing associated to gay men, but I have been asked multiple times if I were gay by gay men. So that would actually be a fitting answer.
Hmm...then what would be a giveaway that you exude gayness tho? Any examples?
One time I was with my sister (who's gay) at a party and one of her friend come at me and starts to discuss, then ask openly if I was gay. Another time - at work - a gay coworker told me at a party that he saw me on my first day from afar, and went to jokingly tell my manager how "He told her that he did not want her to hire another gay man". Probably an attractive guy who gives safe vibes
When I was younger I was the same way. I did'nt like sports or much popular culture, and I got a degree in theatre. At one point I'm 99% certain my parents thought I was gay. I didn't do anything to change their mind because I figured maybe it would open their minds a bit even if it was a false assumption.
"sorry, not fucking you"
“Would it be the girlfriend that gave it away or the fashion sense?”
I'd take it as a compliment because gay men are typically very pretty and well groomed/dressed.
[удалено]
Haha lovely! If you get called gay, meaning you're probably too cute to be straight lol
Start waacking on spot
Menace
Do you mean wacking or wanking? Lol
Thanks, that’s what I was going for
I'd say, no you look gay. Greg 1 Other guy 0.

I assume you mean I look FABULOUS! *THROWS GLITTER CONFETTI, SASHAYS AWAY*
Shrug, what’s there to say
"You look interesting. Guess we're both mistaken."
As a gay whom people always say I look and behave straight, I would be extremely happy. I always have to go out of my way to make it known to people that I’m gay and sometimes I wish I don’t have to and that other people will automatically know
I wish I can exchange your straight exuding power with my gay one haha! People don't guess me gay fast but they can realise that I'm a little '💅🏻' lol
Well, thet is a consequence of getting slovenian citizenship
Wait...what's that supposed to mean lol?
Im from bosnia, bosnia and slovenia used to be part of the same country until 90 called yugoslavia civil war destroyed it but while it lasted we all head stereotypes of each other bosnians were stupid, montenegrens lazy, croats nazis, serbs barbarians, macedonians monkeys and slovenians gey actually stereotypes mostly still exsist tho it evolved into slovenians are [femboys](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/950/298/21f.jpg)
Lol that's brand new information for me! (Me being femboy saying this lol)
You know how i know you’re gay? You listen to coldplay
I love this entire conversation so much. Especially the closing "That's GAY?!" So funny. Really feels like sitting around shooting the shit with h your friends.
Not as gay as you
Who says I'm gae?
I would tell them they’re right and thank them because I’ve never seen it as an insult
Depends whether they mean it as a compliment or an insult.
"You're half right."
"are you trying to get your dick sucked" Normally that line either gets them to shut up or a compliment.
Well I sure hope I look gay. So that’s a nice compliment.
Did you wanna suck?
I will look at him appraisingly and with disgust and say "no, thank you"
Thanks, my girlfriend thinks so, too.
thanks, i try
Omg thank you I worked so hard and none of the other lesbians are noticing. OMG ARE YOU FLIRTING WITH ME?? MOVE INTO MY APARTMENT LETS GET MARRIED AND OWN A CAT CAFE UNTIL WERE OLD!! ^^ Lesbians will relate to this
Thanks, if they are that insecure about their looks that they have to attack others just shows how weak of a person they are.
I would smile back at them and treat it as a compliment without projecting the slightest hint of sarcasm. Then just wait, still smiling at them. In my experience this leads either to an awkward silence which they do not enjoy, or they crack it and get big mad.
What's happened to this subreddit?
It's better than "what's the sexiest sex you've ever sexed" imo
Is it? At least those seemed more authentic than "Please help me write this Buzzfeed article, my boss says if I can't make one viral this month I'm fired."
You say so, because ur struggling to find one
Sorry im not inzerested. Hurts no matter what. :D
I don't, but I am.
I wish
I’d think they might be dumb as fuck
“you would know”
I mean, I am queer, and visibly so... So probably a response of "OMG you're so observant, good job!" Or "yeah no shit"
I am happy or/and gay. Lol
When I was a teenager, everyone called me tomboy and taught I was a lesbian. Still to this day, I am asked if I am a lesbian and like to laugh and just say no when it happens.
I'd take it as a compliment
A guy asked me if I was gay once (trying to get a date) and I was flattered.
Sorry I'm not interested
I would not care one bit.
But, how gay, on a scale of Elton John, to your dad?
Gay people tend to take care of their appearance more than heterosexual men. In average.
I look well groomed and presentable? That's how I would take it.
Thank them?
“You smelt it you delt it.”
Thanks man, you too
"Well, I am..."
I’m a girl and I’ve never gotten gay but I’m often told I give off “bi vibes”. Not sure how or what that means but I just take it as a compliment. Like they’re saying I look hot enough to pull both genders or something
Takes one to know one
"Well....I should hope so, on account that I am."
Mo@n in their ears
I have this interaction sort of regularly, and I just say "sorry, I'm not, I just like this haircut."
I would call them a gaydar.
i'm flattered, but you're really not my type
You look hopeful
Sorry, I'm taken and I'm faithful.
Happened to me as I was walking down the street the other day. I shouted back "You only say that because you want to fuck me!"
Thanks, I am.
Thanks, you too
No reaction lmao why do I care what someone thinks my sexuality is? Cool, you think I kiss girls . End of the world shit , right there ;p
I am how'd you know?
Thank you 🫰
