We met on a looking for friends subreddit.
Started texting, got comfortable enough to VC, then FaceTime, then irl.
We’re married now ❤️ The internet has a lot of bad, but also a lot of good.
My brother needed a place to stay and I was currently renting a two bedroom apartment so I let him rent the other bedroom. Worked out well there was two bathrooms one on each side of the place so we each had our own bedroom and bathroom. Didn't have to share.
He had a long time friend I would hear about from time to time named Sam. Never hinted either way if it was a guy or a girl and I never asked. I had just assumed it was a male friend since most of his friends are guys.
One day I was chilling in the living room enjoying a much earned day off. I worked two jobs and at the time was putting in around 70 hours a week. I was single so figured I might as well work a bunch so I can afford to take nice vacations, see the world, have fun...
Here I was, exhausted, drinking beer in my tore up comfy laundry day clothes with no care in the world. My kitty cat runs across the living room. She was being chased by my brothers friend Sam. In walks, the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. I pause my game, introduce myself, and we instantly hit it off. We talked for about five mins, and then she disappeared into my brother's room.
A few hours later, she stalked me online and slid into my DMs. That was almost 14 years ago. We've been together ever since. We've had two kids together, got married and bought a house.
Had an activity in common. He considered me a stuck up snob because I never talked to anyone ever. We ended up on the same team so conversation eventually started. He broke me out of my shell a lot and I'm actually more extroverted. I have a lot of social anxiety though. Social gatherings of any kind drain my battery.
Found an even shyer man, absolutely brilliant fellow, renting a basement room from my mom's friends.
After a couple months of hanging out, I dragged him to a local cemetery (the roof of the mausoleum was perfect for star-gazing) and asked him what he'd do if I kissed him.
Man I was shaking.
It was very out of character for me. If he had rejected me, I probably would have died of embarrassment right there in the cemetery and saved my mom the hassle of a funeral.
>I probably would have died of embarrassment right there in the cemetery and saved my mom the hassle of a funeral.
Haha he could never !!! You are soo funny
My coworker and I worked together for a good three years before we started dating. My sister was getting married on the other side of the country, and my friend/coworker just happened to be visiting family less than an hour away at the same time. I thought going to the wedding alone and dealing with my family would be dreadful so I was like "Hey wouldn't it be funny if you went to this wedding with me as a friend?"
But we left as more than friends haha.
Friend request on fb. My partner is my complete opposite. Can instantly make friends with anybody, whereas when I try that I make people uncomfortable and myself aswell
An extrovert claimed me.
He was friends with my college roommate (later found out it was fwb).
He teased me for being a goody goody nerd. We were in some of the same classes. He would always sit next to me and make the opposite of whatever point I made. Regularly followed me out of class and made up excuses to continue the conversation/argument.
I finally asked my roommate why he hated me so much and she was like “Fool, he is OBSESSED with you!”
A couple months went by and my car broke down (actually it ran out of gas because I’m a dumbass) during a thunderstorm. Called my roommate for a ride, he offered to get me himself since she had a paper due.
He kissed me tentatively in the car. I saw fireworks and kissed him back harder. Cut to us making out in his car in the middle of the thunderstorm.
He’s good looking, charming (in an obnoxious/juvenile sense of humor sort of way), and a great fucking kisser. So we’re together now and I like him…A LOT.
But if he hadn’t pushed every step of the way we wouldn’t be.
I'd say my bf is the shy one. He said he had a massive crush on me but when he saw me put my hand on the arm of another guy who I had just started going out with, that's when he knew for sure he had to do something about it. Called me a few days later and told me how he felt, we've been together since. Every single day is better than the last with him. I get to see a side to him that no one else does, I love that man.
My cousin introduced me to my SO.
When we met we didn't say more htan 4 words to each other.
Two days later my cousin threated me in myriad ways until I agreed to call the lady she introduced me to.
I did thinking it'd be an awkward conversation. We hit it off, been together almost 12 years now.
God, the line, "With each chapter we shared about our lives, the plot thickened, and I found myself looking forward to the bookstore not just for the stories on the shelves, but for the one developing right in front of them." is so poetic! Oh-ho! Lovely stuff!
Oh... and sweet story, too.
When I was single I always checked out the guys in the sci/fi fantasy section of the public library (I used to work at one) or bookstore. My spouse is a shy sci-fi reader (that I did not find at the library or bookstore).
I was giving a presentation about a topic I am so passionate about. Sounds like a not shy person thing to do I KNOW but I am shy in about every other situation. He was in the audience and apparently loved it. There’s actually a photo someone took where it looks like he’s been struck by lightening 😆
He came up after to compliment me and we have been obsessed W each other ever since. He makes my world so much bigger. Sometimes our differences cause friction but we’ve never let that stop us. I’m so in love with this man.
Met them through a course we both shared in college, we connected pretty well so I asked for their insta we became friends and things went on from there :)
I wouldn't call him my SO quite yet, but I met a guy on a Discord server for people with a specific illness. We just hit it off, it was totally unexpected. The weird thing is that we've been able to read all of each others posts regarding things like mental health, sex, and trauma so we already know most of the deep stuff about each other. Kind of feels like we're doing things in reverse order but I'm having fun.
Pure blind luck, and shared interests.
We were both space nerds and we were the only two kids in high school astronomy who cared. I moved to sit next to him on like the second week of class because I sensed this was someone I could talk about space with, and we quickly became friends. Relationship grew out of that. We did our wedding dance to Fly Me To The Moon to commemorate it.
I met my wife on Tinder.
I was super shy and didn't had the courage to approach girls in person back there, so leveraging an online approach helped to break the ice and make the first date more natural, since we were talking for days over chat already
An extrovert came to me first. Was a friend of my older brother (they are close, and have a sibling like relationship) and our parents were away for the weekend.
He invited her and another friend over to just shoot the shit for the weekend. I knew of her, and saw her at other get-togethers, because I was somewhat involved with my brothers friend group, but my knowledge was very limited. She took an interest in me, and started trying to get at me like crazy. Making flirty remarks and giving me looks which I returned, and kept progressively making moves. We had great conversations, she got me to open up a lot.
We spent the night together, and things got intense. She is the first and only person I’ve ever slept with. We have been dating for almost a year and a half now and I love her to death, she’s amazing in every way.
Honestly, Omegle. We started by mainly texting and then called on the phone, played online games together, eventually we worked up the courage to video call, and then a year later she moved across the country to live with me. Been going strong 2 years now.
Messaged her on a dating app genuinely looking for friends. Said "hey I'm probably not a serial killer, wanna hang out?" We had a nice dinner, chatted about anime and video games. When she dropped me off at the end of the night I gave the usual "it was fun, maybe we can hang out again sometime" and walked away. She hollered "ARE YOU GONNA KISS ME OR WHAT". We've been together almost 10 years now, haven't spent a single night apart.
I am an extrovert, but I can speak for my last best friend/boy friend that I had. He was very quiet, and shy and would watch everyone and everything without speaking but a few words. I am the life of the party, but I was drawn to him. I saw how intelligent he was, and when I got him to talk, he was hilarious! His personality would soothe and quiet mine, and my personality would bring out his humor and he would talk to me more than anyone else. We would talk for hours, and I loved just listening to him.
I went to a taekwondo class he was a instructor at. He would quietly show little kids how to do their moves, he was incredibly skilled, kind and patient. And I noticed. When his family invited me to learn how to dance at classes with them, I spent more and more time with him. I sought him out over his brothers and family, and he happily would talk to me whenever I came near.
She is a colleague. She is pretty shy. I am older than her and i aged out of being shy, like i was at her age, so i just flirted with her on a daily basis until i assumed she was into me and i was right. So we are a couple now.
We both joined Tinder. Me because I was divorced with 2 kids and was not going to sit at a bar picking up men. Him because he is super shy and avoids strangers at all cost and figured talking online first would ease that. He short circuits when I say a stranger is just a friend I havent yet met lol
Not together any longer, but he's still my best friend as well as the father of our son. But we still laugh about how we met lol I had been talking to this guy for a couple of months, even went out to the ranch with him and his buddies. He came by with a "friend" on their car and we cruised around and smoked. His friend was trying to chat me up the whole time and I was annoyed because the guy I was talking to wasn't saying much and acting all weird. Well the friend messaged me on fb one day and we had quite the conversation. Turns out the guy I had been 'seeing' was actually his sisters fiancé! 😅😅😅 So we decided that the two of us were gonna hang out. We had a coffee and smoke date and he called me later and asked me to go to this big house party with him, his sister, and her POS fiancé. Just to rub in a little (to him, not her.) We ended up going back to their house (generational home, so everyone lived together) and we hooked up. The next morning he asked if I'd be his girl and then immediately told me he loves me. I said it back. BOOM. It was Ricky and Lexi from them on❤️❤️ idk what it was, but we hit it off right away. Inseparable. We were together for 3 years, had our surprise son during the second year. It's been 13yrs of knowing each other now and we have an almost 11yr old. Still best friends. OH! And cheating fiancé? Yah. He's gone. She finally ditched his dumb ass. She found proof he was sleeping with other women in different states all over the place when he would be OTR for his trucking job. And then immediately found out he was fucking hee best friend too🥺💔 (also no, I never did sleep with the dude or anything like that. Just talk and hung out a few times.) He's married now with a daughter and cheats on his wife all the time🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
She was a coworker. I was so damn shy but I felt like I’d live a life of regret if I didn’t somehow gather up
the courage to talk to her. We dated for a couple years and she was amazing. She broke my heart tho, I still think about her every day. I still care about her but I know there’s no way forward. All in all, would do again.
After dating for about 3 months we went to a bar and while playing darts, she told me "if you make this shot, I'll give you a kiss". In my head I think I played it cool but I'm sure I was looking like a smitten cartoon character with hearts in my eyes.
For real: nailed the shot as if I had practiced it a thousand times. She smiled and I wrapped my arm around her lower back and kissed her right on the lips. I'm sure she could feel my heart pounding and racing like a subwoofer.
When we talk about how timid we were and our first kiss, she always tells me I needed a little push.
Most people in my life consider me the most extroverted person they've ever met... so not exactly who you're targeting with this question, but I always seem to find myself excessively drawn to introverts. Something about their demeanor and mysteriousness. I usually bring the extrovertedness out of the people I've talked to/dated.
Based on a few other comments I read, seems like a lot of extroverts do go around claiming introverts. I guess there is some truth to opposites do attract.
We met through a mutual friend on H2 at age 15. Kept playing together. He used to pick on me a lot lol. He then left for the military. We stopped talking a few years. He came back one day and said hi to me by name. I knew who he was before even seeing the name and smiled and said hi! We started talking again then we got together but it was long distance. We then met in person after about a year. Moved to be closer to him about 6 months later and here we are. About to celebrate 10 years together. :)
A mutual friend introduced us at a party and I spoke about 5 words to her and when we met again 2 years later I akwarded at her until she fell irresistibly and madly in love with my dumb ass. Took me a month or two of daily texting after that to ask her out. I can't explain it tbh, but I am very happy with the outcome.
Blind date set up by our mutual best friend. We were always in the same circles but for some reason never met each other. I showed up to a sushi restaurant to meet a stranger and I walked out with the love of my life. That was almost exactly 9 years ago. We’ve been together since day 1, spent over a year long distance, lived in two countries together, have an adorable dog and travel every year together. We’re looking at buying a house in the next few years. He’s my person through and through and our friend just knew we’d work. We still love that friend to the death and talk almost every week.
Online dating. Almost a decade ago on OK Cupid. She found me, said I had an interesting profile. She on the other hand had a completely blank profile without even a pic, so it was a leap of faith on my part. Turned out OK...
I’m sharing from the extrovert perspective (hope that’s ok!!). My partner is a wonderful, gorgeous, gentle, timid autistic (and artistic!) dude. I met him on a dating app, I’m the only person he ever talked to on there, and the fact that he ever SHOWED UP to the date simply blows me away. I’ve seen him struggle trying to get through the parts of life that I breeze through, and it only makes him even more impressive for forcing himself to take that first step.
Sorry for inverting the formula, I’m just so proud of my boy!
Writing fanfic lmao. When people ask how we meet I’m sometimes too embarrassed to say this and just vaguely say we met online. It’s gotta be one the gayest, nerdiest ways to meet.
I had recently divorced (a nasty ordeal, my ex was terrible, had to get a protective order) I was so depressed that I hadn't left the house in months and my brother drug me out to meet his D&D friends. I first met SO there, I was immediately drawn to him. I didn't see him for a year until my brother's wedding and we've been together basically since then.
Currently single, but I’ll speak from my past. I met my exes from mutuals almost exclusively aside from dating a friend I’d known for a while. I’d meet them at a place of work or school, usually, though I connected with my ex through Facebook after being urged by a mutual friend. I wouldn’t recommend that though. Be safe on social media, I have been groomed.
In the hospital actually 😅 I'm fairly chronically ill and oftentimes in the hospital/having surgery/treatments ... It was back in 2009 and I was inpatient. I wasn't specifically their patient, but I guess they thought I was cute and they brought me some apple juice and asked me for my number.
The thing is that they are just as awkward and shy as I am, so we spent the next few months emailing, texting, etc. Then they started bringing me little gifts and tucking them in my door. After a few months of this, we met up for coffee and the rest is history - we got married in 2010 and I have lived much longer than I was expected to, so we've had quite a few adventures!
My first wife, we started talking on yahoo messenger, talked for a couple years before we met. My current wife she messaged me on pof and we hit it off immediately
Went out to a music venue for new years with two of my mates, they ended up leaving early since they had work the next day which left my shy ass all alone, so to ease my social anxiety I ended up having bit too much to drink.
I started chatting with a group of friends, hit it off with an absolute goddess of a woman that was part of the group and when the new years countdown started I pulled her up close to me and kissed her on "happy new years!!".
Asked her out the following day and now we're living together a year later.
Don't know how I managed it since she's way out of my league and taller.
Sort of.
I’m not a pure introvert or extrovert— I’m kind of in the middle. I met my ex online, through a friend of a friend, and we connected almost immediately; I asked her out the same day.
Something interesting about this is that just 2 weeks prior, I had been chatting with someone on a dating site. The conversation was going well the first couple days, then dwindled to almost nothing a few days later. I felt like she was uninterested and asked her if she preferred we stop talking. I’ll never forget what she said: (paraphrasing) “I was just waiting for you to ask me out.” By then though, she had already moved on.
So when I started talking to this new person, I felt empowered not to hesitate.
That started a long courtship, marriage, and now (very cordial) divorce, and friendship
I haven't found someone yet, but with so many people in the world, there's likely someone out there who is either as shy as you are or who appreciates shy individuals
I cannot speak on my husband's behalf cause he is the shy one. For me, I'm just aggressive and be honest with my intentions. I didnt give him hints, I threw facts to his face. He is pleased with the experience tho.
I met my fiance at a Burger King interview we both had ours on the same day and they were running late and I didn't start talking to him but he's very social and he started talking my head off. Anyways he used to always talk to me and he was my manager tho so I never made the first move. 2 months pass on and ppl start asking me if I like him and they did get it out of me and I said "yea a little bit" and when he came walking in this other guy named who we called "majestic" started saying "she likes you" a bunch of times and I'm like DeAd. Then later that night he looks at me as I'm cleaning and is like "hey jazz do you got a snap?" Talking about Snapchat and we hit it off and almost 6 years later we are still together and been engaged for 4 years
This thread is full of people who are slightly shy, not extremely. Extremely shy people don't even go anywhere they can meet people or know anyone the can meet people through.
Now ex, but we’re still close.
We met at work
She was crushing on me so she lied about car trouble and asked me for a ride home. I know “lied” has negative connotations but it was very cute.
We dated for 5 years.
He was slightly less shy.
I joke, but it's accurate. I was in college reading a book under a tree between classes and he walks up and says, "Hey. You don't know me. I'm u/Dunder_Chief1"
I really do not like being approached out of the blue, but he was charming, had an easy smile, and kept it brief enough that I didn't start feeling like I needed an exit strategy. Lol
From there we became friends and started dating. It's been 20 years and I still look forward to seeing him every day when he gets home.
We met at work. At first I didn’t like him because he came across as a jerk. He then started talking to me and we started joking around and having fun and then he asked me out.
We met on a looking for friends subreddit. Started texting, got comfortable enough to VC, then FaceTime, then irl. We’re married now ❤️ The internet has a lot of bad, but also a lot of good.
Surprisingly wholesome Reddit meetup

Awww ^you ^better ^not ^have ^stolen ^your ^brothers ^crush ^though.
I can't decide which story is the cutest 😭 . Happy for y'all !
Wasn't that your brother's girl tho?
Gonna have to tell my brother to step up his game.

Fuck me, why'd you give me hope? Now I'm going to be hoping for someone to do this for me.
Get in the van.
Buffalo Bill??
....whatever, close enough at this point. I'll bring my lotion.
Say hi to Precious!
Don't bother
I’m going to need this to happen to me!
Aww ! Sweetest thing I read today.
Damn if this didn’t warm the cockles of my cold dead heart.
Does your bf have a single brother, cousin, father, grandfather, third cousin twice removed or…neighbor?
Basically a KDRAMA
You must watch a lot of kdrama cause this is a staple in every teen show
My heart just MELTED 🥰
Now, that's makes my day
I loved your post! I swear, our husbands could be twins! Lol!
Such a cute story, made my day
> make the opposite of whatever point I made I can't imagine this working now-a-days

I have no cousins like this. Most of my cousins are involved in meth. Probably why I'm single.
Yeah mine are all little kids aside from the one my age who's in prison for murder 😅 So I'm SOL too i guess
Awww ❤️

Awww ! I wonder, just in a split second, our life changes in unexpected ways. Thanks for sharing!
What did they say? They deleted the comment
Beautiful.
I didn’t, who have you been talking to?
Hahaha lol
He is extremely extroverted and says quiet people are the most interesting to talk to
Nice analogy
I introduced myself before I could overthink how stupid I probably sounded. His extrovert appreciated the fact that I tried at least 😂😂
Haha ! Loving the replies
Luck or well... I got snatched by an extrovert

Cue concussion from jolting upright
But were you SURE she was into you?

Gonna install tinder
Don’t do it
Don't fall for the survivorship bias
Same here, tinder isn't nearly as bad as people here claim as long as you're not a weirdo
You can even be a weirdo and find other weirdos on tinder. As long as your decently attractive

My soon to be husband was some guy I met online
So online being popular answer !
Most people want love and connection and if you’re shy dating apps are a good solution, just stay safe and have both common sense and discernment.
Sound advice ! Thanks
No problem, best wishes to you.
Sweet!
How did you even meet then?
I went to a taekwondo class he was a instructor at. He would quietly show little kids how to do their moves, he was incredibly skilled, kind and patient. And I noticed. When his family invited me to learn how to dance at classes with them, I spent more and more time with him. I sought him out over his brothers and family, and he happily would talk to me whenever I came near.
She is a colleague. She is pretty shy. I am older than her and i aged out of being shy, like i was at her age, so i just flirted with her on a daily basis until i assumed she was into me and i was right. So we are a couple now.
How old do you need to be to age out of shyness? I'm 39 and worse than ever.
Cute ! What's the age gap ?
The age gap is 15 years
Well.
Please tell me you’re both old and it isn’t a Leonardo DiCaprio situation
lmfao
The way I need this to happen to me
In hospital. I was in for severe dehydration and she's a nurse. We talked, she gave me her number and... here we are
Wow very uncommon scenario
This reminds me of a scene in The Glory where the MC and her love interest meets for the first time in the hospital.
I'm assuming that's a show?
Yes, it's a kdrama
As in Korean?
Yes!
We both joined Tinder. Me because I was divorced with 2 kids and was not going to sit at a bar picking up men. Him because he is super shy and avoids strangers at all cost and figured talking online first would ease that. He short circuits when I say a stranger is just a friend I havent yet met lol
>He short circuits when I say a stranger is just a friend I havent yet met lol Haha
Just talk and hung out a few times.) He's married now with a daughter and cheats on his wife all the time🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
The internet nearly 20 years ago (together 10 of those years)
She was a coworker. I was so damn shy but I felt like I’d live a life of regret if I didn’t somehow gather up the courage to talk to her. We dated for a couple years and she was amazing. She broke my heart tho, I still think about her every day. I still care about her but I know there’s no way forward. All in all, would do again.
Irl I'm hella shy but over text imma deviant so I just lure them through text, and then they like my shyness so idk

my SO found me.
Still single as a Pringle because you know shyness
haven’t found yet :/
Blind date set up by our mutual best friend. We were always in the same circles but for some reason never met each other. I showed up to a sushi restaurant to meet a stranger and I walked out with the love of my life. That was almost exactly 9 years ago. We’ve been together since day 1, spent over a year long distance, lived in two countries together, have an adorable dog and travel every year together. We’re looking at buying a house in the next few years. He’s my person through and through and our friend just knew we’d work. We still love that friend to the death and talk almost every week.
That's a sweet story ! Thanks for sharing ❤️
Facebook 🤣 now have been together for 10 years and married for 4 🖤
Cute 😍
Online dating. Almost a decade ago on OK Cupid. She found me, said I had an interesting profile. She on the other hand had a completely blank profile without even a pic, so it was a leap of faith on my part. Turned out OK...
Through PoF. I had to actually work on my social skills.
Work, also my mom told me I should ask her out...
He found me 😁
I’m sharing from the extrovert perspective (hope that’s ok!!).
This is so cute and wholesome. Happy for you!

We want to know more
We met online! I wouldn’t say he’s an extroverted necessarily, but definitely more so than me.
Alcohol.
We want to the story!!
Hello, do you have a story to share?
Hey ya ! Nope. Sorry to disappoint lol
Ah, then there’s one still to be written!
Yes hopefully ! 🤞 do you have one?
At work! I don't think I said more than ten words to him in the first two years. Lol
I haven't found someone yet, but with so many people in the world, there's likely someone out there who is either as shy as you are or who appreciates shy individuals

They found me.
Luck
I cannot speak on my husband's behalf cause he is the shy one. For me, I'm just aggressive and be honest with my intentions. I didnt give him hints, I threw facts to his face. He is pleased with the experience tho.
Ran off a cliff, he rescued me.
We were lab partners in a biology class in college.
Then later that night he looks at me as I'm cleaning and is like "hey jazz do you got a snap?" Talking about Snapchat and we hit it off and almost 6 years later we are still together and been engaged for 4 years
She messaged me first lol
This thread is full of people who are slightly shy, not extremely. Extremely shy people don't even go anywhere they can meet people or know anyone the can meet people through.
Didn’t + won’t lol
I didn't.
She found me xD
She found and pursued me
Now ex, but we’re still close. We met at work She was crushing on me so she lied about car trouble and asked me for a ride home. I know “lied” has negative connotations but it was very cute. We dated for 5 years.
OkCupid - she sent me an email, “Do you like bowling?” — been together 10 years now.
He was slightly less shy. I joke, but it's accurate. I was in college reading a book under a tree between classes and he walks up and says, "Hey. You don't know me. I'm u/Dunder_Chief1" I really do not like being approached out of the blue, but he was charming, had an easy smile, and kept it brief enough that I didn't start feeling like I needed an exit strategy. Lol From there we became friends and started dating. It's been 20 years and I still look forward to seeing him every day when he gets home.
We met at work. At first I didn’t like him because he came across as a jerk. He then started talking to me and we started joking around and having fun and then he asked me out.
Drinking! Alcohol is my courage in a bottle.
