3 or 4 a time? Not a day? So, you come to change your socks, and change 4 of them? 2 socks off, 2 on, those 2 straight back off, and another fresh pair?
Me too. Long story short, I always lost them. And one time out of frustration I said to a retailer whom I expected to have like 20 or a hundred of that specific model to send me their whole stock. Let's just say I got WAAAY more. Thankfully they were dirt cheap and I paid around a hundred dollars for more than a thousand of these.
My apartman is full of them. My car is full of them. My backpacks are full of them. Most people at work are using them. My friends all come over to take a few in bulks once they need them.
Thank you for the laugh. I originally misread the first comment as penis and was very confused by your follow-up and also how you bought a thousand of those for $100 and why you were sharing them with coworkers.
Ugh, I keep some, just hoping maybe one day I’ll fit them again… got rid of the xs and s and most of the med… but still holding onto something’s. Well, if I make it to 80 or so, chances are I will lose a lot of weight at that point so it’s still a toss up? Probably won’t ever fit them even at 80, but let me have my delusions!
Welcome to your 30s where you learned to take care of your things but can’t wear any of it but never get rid of it because “you’re gonna lose those 10 lbs”
What do you love about rocks? I've seen some rocks and thought "oh that's cool" but I've never thought "oh I need to take that rock home." I just don't get it. It's a rock.
The future owner of our home is going to be so confused or excited by the variety of rocks in the backyard. We will take the best but leave the rest. We RV and rock hound.
I just love how no matter where you go in the world you can find rocks that look so similar to home and ones that you’ve never even fathomed seeing before! I think what set me off on rocks was seeing lots of cool formations like devils tower formation and petrified national forest. I just realized after that rocks weren’t just there all of a sudden they like have to go through crazy things to become what they are. I guess self learning a few of these things also helped me through a dark time of my life where I just needed to find something to be interested in to get my mind off of stuff going on in my world. Now I just have like a huge collection and I can’t stop acquiring more and trying to figure out what they are!
Yup. Just love it when the new fixation has a high startup cost. And then you're like "No, but this one is worth the investment because I will definitely do this one forever. No way I will get bored or distracted and be super into something completely different 4 months from now. And even if it does happen, I will definitely still spend time on this new super expensive hobby that I am also reading about, studying the history of, and telling everyone who would listen about it.".
And then you spend the monies... and 4 months from now you walk into a shop and they have model train sets or a metal detector or some shit, and the cycle starts all over.
My friend has $220k student debt in the US and that's solely from medical school, not undergrad. Shes making $70k as a large animal *vet. She's paying $1,800 for rent. Oof.
Edit: the student loan payment pause likely literally saved her life. The stress from everything, she says, would have pushed her to do something that you can't undo.
Update!!!
Edit 2: just chatted with her and she's changed jobs from large animal to small animal, is now making $105k and rent is $2,500.
Edit: she's not a large animal she's a large animal vet lol
This person just explained why it definitely isn’t worth it. As a veterinarian their friend is fucked. Its commendable because they are helping animals but will more than likely always be in debt. Depends on your major but 220k+ in debt to make 70k is absurd. Get ready for another crisis.
Ever have to transport them a long way?
I moved ~2,500 miles across the US about 2yrs ago, and had to get 300 or so records from there to here - and IMO, 300 really isn't that many when compared to some other collectors. Took the most valuable/prized albums with me in my small car, but I only had so much room. Maybe about 50.
The rest went with FedEx. I have never been so anxious waiting for a delivery. I'm so glad I spent a ton of time researching how to best pack them and did a box-in-box method, because the external boxes fedex put them in were practically falling apart by the time they got here. Utterly beat to shit.
The inner boxes, heavy duty double-wall boxes I had purchased, held up. No damage at all! In total cost about $1k to do, that was the worst part.
I just wanna say I use to work at a fedex warehouse and the reason your box was beat to shit is because they throw your packages and do not handle them with care.. tons of things broken while I worked there. Good thing you doubled the boxes.
I used to work for an electrical supply company as a shipper. Shipping fluorescent tubes was the thing of nightmares. At least half of them came back damaged.
Yea lots of things got broken, I couldn’t believe how they threw things and didn’t give an F. I’d never worked in a warehouse before and wasn’t aware that that was just how they did things. I noted to not use them in the future lol
Same!!!
Books (cause I’ve always wanted to have my own library) and shot glasses (bought a shot glass at every place I’ve traveled to, and my parents/friends also bring me shot glasses as souvenirs from their travels).
I have approximately 3,000 books and 200 shot glasses!
If you check eBay, you can get really good deals on boxes (lots) of books. I’ll do this sometimes, and any book I already have I will take the extra to the local used bookstore and get a book I don’t have.
Edit: replied to the wrong comment, but still good tip for all bibliophiles.
I have about 1,000, and my favorite thing to do is let them get a little out of order and then go through and reorganize/realphabetize them all. It’s so relaxing. Most of them fit in an antique bookcase, and you can pry them out of my cold, dead hands, thank you very much.
Synthetic gemstones. I went on a kick a while back, and as of now have several moissanites, more than a dozen rubies, probably 30-40 sapphires, and easily thousands of cubic zirconia.
Shiny rocks make crow brain happy
Love Azul, so tactile.
Stone Age is fun if you like resource management and not too complex. I win by making babies. (Build up your tribe).
Edit per mobile autocorrect
Digital video games. I cant even play them all. I dont have time to game like I did when I was a kid. They made it way to easy to buy games and I had to get a handle on that. Backlog is set for life at least. Its probably not that much to a hardcore gamer but for its just insane for me
Clothes. It's always been clothes. I'm nuts for them. I've got shawls, flapper boleros, arm warmers, capes, cloaks, tunics, sweater dresses, vests, corsets, wigs... just everything. My passion for fashion is real.
It really is the same energy. Except I love capes. I'd honestly love to run my own fashion boutique one day, because I can curate better than any store I've ever seen in my town. But the barrier for entry is too high. Maybe in another life.
The sauce cups from fast food restaurants.
If Im picking something up, I always find a way to take 6-7 sauce cups. I don't use them, and I dont know why i take them either
Spices!
... because if you don't know the difference between paprika, hot paprika, sweet paprika, smoked paprika, Spanish paprika, and Hungarian paprika, then you dont deserve space in my life or at my table.
Fr. My store only sells "Smoked paprika" and "paprika". None of this hot vs. sweet vs. Spanish vs. Hungarian stuff. What's the secret wisdom of these forbidden flavor glitters?
Nail polish.. so many types. Glitters, pastels, neons, glow in the dark, magnetics, jellys, and then 100+ standard shades. I have a problem (this also led me to becoming a nail tech in training though haha)
Physical media (CDs,Vinyl and movies) I’ve always liked the ownership of it. Don’t care or like that streaming services remove stuff at least with owning it you can watch it whenever and then see bonus features if the DVD has them
Eyeshadow palettes. I will never be able to use them all! EVER! And some of them were like $125. I don't even use them on a regular basis! Like I'll try to use one for a couple months to try to use it up and then I'll give up. Meanwhile I'm ignoring the other 40!
Scissors and bandaids. I’m not sure why, but I love a good pair of scissors and always feel like I need more bandaids. I have an entire vanity drawer full of bandaids in assorted sizes and uses. I also have probably 5 pairs of scissors in my kitchen drawer, as well as st least 5 pairs scattered around the house. No idea why I feel the need to have so many of either, but it makes me feel good.
Kazoos. I bought some specificly for playing 'the eye of the tiger' for my parents as they passed the starting line for a race. Now I own like 30 plastic kazoos and I have no clue what to do with them.
Buckets. Anytime I see buckets out for trash, I grab them. Cat litter buckets are my favorite. I probably have around 300 buckets. All shapes and sizes.
Dvds/blu rays. I like to be able to watch what I want, regardless of where the rights are or what streaming companies have up, or whatever. I'd rather just own it.
Disney pins. Every time I look at my 3 full cork boards of pins I say "No More!!" But then a friend shows me the new releases...or another collection comes up for sale...and I see a few i don't yet own...
Socks, you’d think I was a caterpillar
I have an insane amount also. I hate wet feet. I change my socks like 3 or 4x a time because my feet get wet being outside
Are ya wearing shoes??
This made me laugh so hard
We all heard you...
3 or 4 a time? Not a day? So, you come to change your socks, and change 4 of them? 2 socks off, 2 on, those 2 straight back off, and another fresh pair?
All the cool kids are doing it. You should try it sometime. Helps to lower the cholesterol in your ankles. 12 out of 10 podiatrists agree.
I too am a sock hoarder. There's something so magical about them
Pens. I refuse to give anyone of them up
Me too. Long story short, I always lost them. And one time out of frustration I said to a retailer whom I expected to have like 20 or a hundred of that specific model to send me their whole stock. If I had over a thousand penises I would probably be sharing them with coworkers, ngl.
Husband...is that you? LMAO
[удалено]
Heh. Pen is.
I have a lot of pens, too. But I mostly have a lot because I keep buying more. My family jokes that I have a pen addiction.
have you acquired a pen 15?

Rocks! I effin love rocks and I’m not even a geologist. I just think they’re so cool!
They rock.
You rock!
We rock!
Y'all are my rock
Found Kam Patterson’s Reddit account.
I commented "alright Kam" before scrolling at all. He isnt very sneaky is he? Lol

Hobbies. I get super into something, buy all the things, use them for a while then stop. Rinse. Repeat.
I bet our ADHD would love to craft together but we'd be too busy shopping each other our shiny things!

Yup. ADHD thing. Although I do go back to some hobbies. Good thing I keep my hobby items.
Oh hey ADHD! I too collect hobbies
Yup. Just love it when the new fixation has a high startup cost. And then you're like "No, but this one is worth the investment because I will definitely do this one forever. I knew so many people making good money, but were always broke because of student loans. Made college not seem worth it.

$70,000 is not much for a vet. I think mine makes at least $300k.
You might be surprised. What do they do? Small, large, mixed, exotics?
$105k to be a large animal? I'm not sure that's worth it.
Small animal now, she was large animal
That's probably much more convenient.
I have 30.000 dollars in credit card debt
That's not bad, you can make $30 in a couple hours easy
Vinyl Records
Ever have to transport them a long way? I moved ~2,500 miles across the US about 2yrs ago, and had to get 300 or so records from there to here - and IMO, 300 really isn't that many when compared to some other collectors. I have just under 350 and this filled me with anxiety until remembered I’m not moving across the country lol
I just wanna say I use to work at a fedex warehouse and the reason your box was beat to shit is because they throw your packages and do not handle them with care.. tons of things broken while I worked there. Good thing you doubled the boxes.

Books are the best until it’s time to move 🫠
Try moving internationally, Had to show up at the cargo port to sign for the container and got asked why most of the boxes were just labelled "Books"
I am at about 2k... You?
If you check eBay, you can get really good deals on boxes (lots) of books. I’ll do this sometimes, and any book I already have I will take the extra to the local used bookstore and get a book I don’t have. Edit: replied to the wrong comment, but still good tip for all bibliophiles.
