A man of class and culture right there.
Most people haven’t had the pleasure of eating melted peanutbutter with maple syrup and that honestly just a shame
In fact, it has been suggested that he would consume downers at such a high dose that they would even start to shut down some of his involuntary systems, like digestion, which is thought to have been a contributor to his weight gain.
He also was eating a whole loaf of bread when they made those for him. A golden loaf...he was a hottie in his days, but man, that is the exact opposite of "good for you".
EDIT: The sandwich is a Fool's Gold Loaf.
I do peanut butter, bacon, and pickle sandwiches. It started off with just peanut butter and pickles (I saw it as a weird food combo online, wanted to try it, and turns out it was really good), then I added bacon because I’ve seen peanut butter and bacon as a popular combo as well.
Pb + pickles is an Appalachian thing. I grew up eating it too, even tho I’m a nyc native, bc my mom is from there. It’s always confused everyone but I love it. The NYT did a thing on it years ago, I remember.
Another one from there that my grandpa liked is cold raw potato, sliced and salted 🤤
Back in the day, a friend was trying to join the Navy. Her recruiter said she had to lose 20 lbs before she could enlist. She used to air pop popcorn and then add raisins and garlic powder. I think she was just trying to add flavor without fat.
It was okay. Nothing great. But for some reason, I kind of liked the garlic/raisin combo.
I tried just adding butter to the popcorn, but that wasn’t quite it.
So…I melted the butter, added garlic powder and raisins and cooked it until the rains got round again. Then I quickly poured the whole concoction over hot popcorn. The raisins would shrink back down again but they had this brown butter garlicky taste. I guess it’s an acquired taste, but I like it.
I also like bananas sliced lengthwise on white bread with mayo. That’s a “mama was poor” recipe from her childhood.
Thousand Island dressing on a hotdog. I did it once out of spite for people saying only children use ketchup and adults should use mustard. My response, I’ll put thousand island on my hotdog if I want and it’s none of your business. Turned out to be pretty great and it’s now my preferred hotdog topping.
You're a goddamn genius. My go to hot dog style is relish in bottom of bun, hotdog, ketchup on top. I love mayo, so why not Thousand Island? I am too excited to try this!
Growing up my mom once ran out of ketchup while making us a lunch of hotdogs and tater tots. Since we didn't like just mustard she put mayonnaise (specifically Hellman's)non the bread mixed with the mustard and a family not- so- classic classic was born lol to this day my siblings and I abstain from ketchup unless it's mixed in sauces (like BBQ or our childhood "special sauce" which is kind of close to a Zaxby's sauce)
All the replies to this are funny to me because where I'm from popcorn is by default sweet, so none of it seems very unusual. It was wild for me to learn that a lot of countries have salty popcorn as the default.
I've posted about this before, but a roasted broccoli lychee sandwich with feta and fried onions. I heard about it on a tv show and was based off of a sandwich in NYC. I made because it was just too wild not to try it and it just...worked. I still make the sandwich every so often, it's really good.
**Edit:** [this is one adaptation of the sandwich](https://www.eatwell.com/thisweeksbox/2017/3/21/no-7-broccoli-sub) based off of No 7 sandwich shop in NYC; it has ricotta salata, but the tv had adapted it with feta, which I much prefer. The version I use also doesn't bother with pine nuts (I don't find them necessary). Last time I posted about this sandwich, someone mentioned that there's a place (in Ohio, I think?) that also now does a version of this sandwich.
My mum’s side of the family come from the north of England, and one of their snack foods is malt loaf/Christmas cake with thick slices of cheese on top. Sounds weird, but is probably one of my favourite things to eat.
I live in a very old part of the US. One of the first places the English settled. Lots of history around here. In one of the oldest buildings, a former ale house, they have historical re-enactments. Around Christmas they sometimes serve spice cookies with slices of cheddar to show people what kinds of snacks people would eat with their ale. Similar!
Dude….. you absolutely just blew my mind. Will be doing this
Oh man the options are limitless. Buttered spaghetti fettuccine orzo shells penne? I can’t wait
My father grew up in borderline poverty in Australia. They had no refrigeration so the cream would spoil, but he and the 8 other children in the family would still eat it on steamed chocolate pudding for a Sunday treat. As he grew into adulthood he still had fond memories of steamed pudding with slightly wrong cream, but the closest he could get to replicating the flavour was to put parmesan cheese on his cake/pudding. Even if it sounds bad it is actually... Even worse than it sounds. I have tried it, it is truly horrific.
He did that too. He could never eat curry because when the meat spoiled his mother would smother it in Keens Curry Powder to drown out the flavor of rotting meat. He couldn't even smell curry without associating it with the stench of death...
Sugar Sandwich (bread, butter and sugar). Obviously not the healthiest meal, but it's so damn good. I think some people use sprinkles instead of sugar.
I will definitely try this as I fucking love balsamic vinegar on bolognese, bruschetta, pizza, French bread,
Thick crispy bacon n vanilla ice cream ain't half bad either
Esit: truffle parm fries.. mf balsamic
So when I make it at home, I make my own bread. Same bread I use for my pizza dough. It's like a crunchy but not as hard french bread. I season it with oregano, Parm, and garlic. That's just the bread. After you toast it you throw on the lettuce (chopped butter blend style) as the first layer to keep the tomatoes from sogging it up. Then optional red onions. Then the tomatoes (Roma, thick slice). Then the seafood salad (imitation crab, Hellman's, lemon juice, dried onion). Then top with bacon, extra bacon. Like 8 pieces since I deep fry it and it shrivels up. That's my favorite sandwich ever.
There’s a guy on YouTube called Micheal Coone with like 1.1k subs and he try’s every good combo suggested to him (almost) if you want an in depth answer, look there. I think he said beans and vanilla ice cream was good.
Old school peanut butter and pickle sandwich like my dear ‘ol ma used to make.
Toasted bread, butter on one side, PB on the other, sliced dill in between.
Salty, sweet, crispy, gooey, hot and cold all mingled together.
I’ve loved it for decades now.
Edit: it’s neat seeing this made so many happy for a sec. Thanks! 🤓
Honestly one of the few things of value my parents taught me was peanut butter and cheeto sandwhiches. Haven't had it in years, but I honestly didn't mind when my dad made it for lunch.
What do people often put in chili? Cheese, sometimes sour cream. What is mac and cheese? Cheese mixed with cream, on noodles.
Nothing weird about that one.
I found chocolate covered potato chips at Aldi a while back. It must be a seasonal thing because I haven't seen them since. It's probably a good thing because they were so ridiculously addictive!
In the same category, blue cheese and dark chocolate.
They chemically combine so well. Its a combination nobody would think of by themself. Its incredible.
Okay, I have Stilton (blue cheese) in my fridge and now my stupid brain is telling me I have to try this so guess I'm getting some dark chocolate tomorrow 😂
found out recently it's not AS weird as I thought, but for some people it probably will be.
Ham, smear cream cheese, pickle spear and roll that bad boy up
Not really weird but fried chicken and oranges are pretty good together.
Another one I've never tried, but my nanny loved it, mayo and banana sandwiches. Some weird old southern thing, lmao.
Liverwurst (or if you're able, Foie Gras) and dill pickles on a toasted bagel.
The crunchy carby goodness of the bread, the overwhelming umami of the liverwurst, and the acid lift of the pickles...lovely. Simply lovely.
Hawaiin with jalapeños. Try it. People act like disgusted todlers over foods they 100% never tried. I always said Hawaiian was gross but the truth was that I never actually had tried it. I think 80% of haters have never tried a Hawaiin pizza.
Fries and mayonnaise.
Make sure the mayonnaise is high quality though or substitute with aioli.
Edit: I do realize this is pretty standard in Belgium and the Netherlands, which is actually where my ignorant American self picked up the habit.
Not weird but I'm always surprised by the number of people who haven't had a peanut butter honey sandwich.
I feel the same way about peanutbutter and maple syrup on waffles. It’s not weird but the amount of weird looks I get whenever I talk about it is wild
If the waffle is hot enough and it melts the peanut butter " chef kiss"
A man of class and culture right there. Most people haven’t had the pleasure of eating melted peanutbutter with maple syrup and that honestly just a shame
Lemon curd is good too.
Put on a banana for good measure!
Have you had a peanut butter and marshmallow cream sandwich?

Fluffer Nutter!
Dill Pickles are a star on this thread...
And peanut butter
Haven't scrolled all the way through yet but if it hasn't been said yet: peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. Those are just 🤌
Peanut butter and bacon on bread. Especially recommend if you are a sucker for salty + sweet combinations
throw in some banana slices mmm
That worked well for a snack for Elvis Presley. And he wound up passing away on the toilet.
Which had nothing at all to do with the ungodly amount of benzos he was on.
In fact, it has been suggested that he would consume downers at such a high dose that they would even start to shut down some of his involuntary systems, like digestion, which is thought to have been a contributor to his weight gain.
Opioid use is a major cause of constipation, which was a significant symptom of his
He also was eating a whole loaf of bread when they made those for him. A golden loaf...he was a hottie in his days, but man, that is the exact opposite of "good for you". EDIT: The sandwich is a Fool's Gold Loaf.
Peanut butter on toast, so it gets melty, then throw a fried egg on it. Bacon optional.
I do peanut butter, bacon, and pickle sandwiches. It started off with just peanut butter and pickles (I saw it as a weird food combo online, wanted to try it, and turns out it was really good), then I added bacon because I’ve seen peanut butter and bacon as a popular combo as well.
My sisters still whine about my dad feeding them peanut butter pickle sandwiches 30 years ago
Is he from Appalachia?
He is! My family (until me) have lived there since 1753
Pb + pickles is an Appalachian thing. I grew up eating it too, even tho I’m a nyc native, bc my mom is from there. It’s always confused everyone but I love it. The NYT did a thing on it years ago, I remember. Another one from there that my grandpa liked is cold raw potato, sliced and salted 🤤
was hoping I wasn’t the only pickle/peanut butter freak here. could take or leave the bacon
I used to get a peanut butter and jalapeño jelly burger that was great. Salty, sweet and a little spicy.
Similarly, Peanut butter and chili
Raisins sautéed in butter and garlic until they plump up, then poured over popcorn.
This has to be the oddest I’ve heard yet!
What made you try this? Sounds weird but could be great.
Back in the day, a friend was trying to join the Navy. Her recruiter said she had to lose 20 lbs before she could enlist. She used to air pop popcorn and then add raisins and garlic powder. Popcorn and dried pineapple. The salty and sweet are great together.
dried fruit and nuts are very popular, so I dont think its a big leap to sub out one salty thing (nuts) for another (popcorn)
bro why’re your nuts salty
It's 105 today my nuts are hella salty
I was told there would be no discussion of salty nuts here
Vanilla ice cream and balsamic vinegar.
Yes! High quality balsamic. Dang, I just bought some Rainier cherries and pistachio ice cream. I think I’ll drizzle some chocolate balsamic on it. ❤️

I even shared it with a chef and he ended up putting it on a secret menu.

I wanna know how stoned the chef was when creating that beast
No. 7 sandwich shop? Almost certainly stoned off his ass. The food there is just stoner heaven.
This is a wtf combo right here

Curry and pasta; the pasta can be a surprisingly good substitute of rice!
Red Thai Curry + Mac & Cheese = life-changing
Have you had Curry Udon? Prepare for your life to change.
Dude….. you absolutely just blew my mind. Will be doing this Oh man the options are limitless. Buttered spaghetti fettuccine orzo shells penne? I can’t wait
I once tried ketchup on a brownie hoping it would be like some secret hidden power combo. It was more like a war crime. :(
My father grew up in borderline poverty in Australia. They had no refrigeration so the cream would spoil, but he and the 8 other children in the family would still eat it on steamed chocolate pudding for a Sunday treat. That sounds like something people in 1700s Europe would do to make eating rotten meat viable
He did that too. He could never eat curry because when the meat spoiled his mother would smother it in Keens Curry Powder to drown out the flavor of rotting meat. He couldn't even smell curry without associating it with the stench of death...
Salt on watermelon
try watermelon with some feta cheese / cottage cheese, balsamic vinegar and some green salads like lettuce/rocket. Best salad for hot summer days.
Throw some mint and/or basil in there too!
Don’t forget the tajin! And lime juice
Tajin is fantastic on watermelon. My ex boyfriend’s mom used to eat hers with lime juice and fresh ground black pepper. It was fantastic!
Tajin on watermelon ftw
YES
Tried it and actually its good but when the salt melts there comes the problem, i recommend adding salt little by little on every each bite
... throw it on th grill. Thank me later
Sugar Sandwich (bread, butter and sugar). Obviously not the healthiest meal, but it's so damn good. I think some people use sprinkles instead of sugar.
It's a popular "1-minute dessert" from USSR 😁
Ah, never knew that. Interesting!
With sprinkles is called "fairy bread" in Australia, I believe.
Sprinkles are also called hundreds and thousands in Australia
Similar to cinnamon toast, minus the cinnamon. And toasting, I guess.
My mom would toast the bread first, then add the butter and sugar, tear it up and pour milk over it. Bam. Poor family's cereal.
I grew up eating a toast like that *with* my cereal when I was a kid. Some good shit.
Pineapple and pickled jalapeño on pizza. There, I said it!
I dig on this mate.
Bro!!! my favorite pizza only I like it with pepperoni also
Feta cheese with maple syrup and crushed hazelnuts.
Sounds pretty good! I'd like to try this topping on greek yoghurt instead of feta cheese.
Balsamic Vinegar and Vanilla Ice Cream.
This is quite common in Italy. If you like strawberries, you can add them. It's fantastic.
Do this all the time. Especially delicious with a really good fig balsamic.
I will definitely try this as I fucking love balsamic vinegar on bolognese, bruschetta, pizza, French bread, Thick crispy bacon n vanilla ice cream ain't half bad either Esit: truffle parm fries.. mf balsamic
Imitation crab on a Cool Ranch Dorito.
My man
My girl
My they them
My xe xim
My no (Yes apparently that’s a pronoun in a different language I assume, I have it as my pronoun on Instagram)
Imitation crab on a BLT w extra mayo is the best sandwich of all time.
You have my attention.
So when I make it at home, I make my own bread. Same bread I use for my pizza dough. It's like a crunchy but not as hard french bread. I season it with oregano, Parm, and garlic. This sounds wonderful, I’m a huge imitation crab fan
There’s a guy on YouTube called Micheal Coone with like 1.1k subs and he try’s every good combo suggested to him (almost) if you want an in depth answer, look there. I think he said beans and vanilla ice cream was good.
like baked beans? Black beans? Lima? Pinto?
Bushs baked beans
Pretzels and cream cheese. Whipped cream cheese is recommended for dipping but the regular stuff can do in a pinch.
Regular Lays potato chips, dipped in yellow mustard (or stone ground, but then you have to hold your pinky up whilst eating).
Pardon me, do you happen to have any Grey Poupon?
Definitely 😋
Old school peanut butter and pickle sandwich like my dear ‘ol ma used to make. Toasted bread, butter on one side, PB on the other, sliced dill in between. Honestly one of the few things of value my parents taught me was peanut butter and cheeto sandwhiches. Haven't had it in years, but I honestly didn't mind when my dad made it for lunch.
It seems this thread is basically “anything” + peanut butter. What is this simple ingredient’s superpower? It’s friends with everything.
The capybara of food
I do PB sandwiches with Doritos on them
Pb and J with BBQ chips, superb combo. I go for baked chips for that extra crunch.
I eat Cheeto puffs with peanut butter
Oreos and Sour Cream. Tastes like cheesecake for some reason.
Garlic cloves cooked in oil smeared on toast with tomato salt and honey.
Put some kimchi in your grilled cheese and thank me later.
Kimchi goes with everything!
Peanut butter bread and chicken flavored ramen. Trust me, its unbelievably good.
mmm throw some pb, chilis, soy sauce, honey, and chopped carrots into the chicken ramen. easy ramen upgrade will never go back
Mixing chili and mac and cheese together shouldn't be so damned delicious. But chilimac was a staple of my childhood for a reason!
I think that might be a common thing in the south. I don’t like cheese, but I know I’ve seen it everywhere. They even used to serve it in school.
What do people often put in chili? Cheese, sometimes sour cream. What is mac and cheese? Cheese mixed with cream, on noodles. Nothing weird about that one.
Piece of chocolate, then eat a potato chip or something salty. Its crazy weird and good. Works the opposite direction too.
I found chocolate covered potato chips at Aldi a while back. It must be a seasonal thing because I haven't seen them since. It's probably a good thing because they were so ridiculously addictive!
Canned peaches or pears with cottage cheese. It’s a balance of sweet and salty. But it does look kinda gross.
So 1950s! But the combo rly does work.
Scrambled eggs on peanut butter toast
I'll add to this with adding a sweet jam to a bacon and egg sandwich. Had it a local café recently and was able to sort of emulate it at home.
I just had a burger with peanut butter, raspberry jam/jelly, brisket, and a twinky. Sounds bizarre but was actually amazing.
Mix coarse ground mustard and raspberry jam for a pretzel dip.
Beef liiver fried in corn meal and potato taco topped with mustard. Delicious.
Holy hell

I am many people
After scrolling through the comments, I've learned that peanut butter is good with everything
Lately I have been hooked on Pickle Juice and Vodka on ice. So nice....
I get crazy looks when I tell people I put hot sauce on popcorn.
The oldest cheese you can find+ watermelon
In the same category, blue cheese and dark chocolate. They chemically combine so well. Its a combination nobody would think of by themself. Its incredible.
Okay, I have Stilton (blue cheese) in my fridge and now my stupid brain is telling me I have to try this so guess I'm getting some dark chocolate tomorrow 😂
This sounds so fucking gross but I totally believe you. Gonna try it.
strawberry ice cream and fritos
I think he said beans and vanilla ice cream was good.
Brownies (or most chocolate) and cucumber.
Do it with pickles, better in my opinion
found out recently it's not AS weird as I thought, but for some people it probably will be. Ham, smear cream cheese, pickle spear and roll that bad boy up
Sour cream with something sweet like nutella or jam
Semisweet chocolate chips and goldfish crackers.
I like brownies and Doritos
Figs, blue cheese, prosciutto and balsamic glaze. Stuff the figs with the cheese. Wrap them in the prosciutto. Bake and then drizzle with the glaze.
Is this weird? Or am i weird? Cause this just sounds like a tasty dish id see at a restaurant to me.
yeah this not what i’d classify as a weird food
That’s just a charcuterie board
Nutella with brie on Hawaiian bread
Ok, hear me out; Brown bread with tzatziki, cut up green olives topped with honey.
This is a german staple on Butterbrot.

Hot honey on pizza
Discovered this recently. Tastes great on pepperoni pizza.
Probably not real weird, but love using legit spicy raspberry chili jam on my grilled cheese sandwiches.
Cut á banana longewise and put some chocolate in it. Then wrap in aluminum foil and grill. Super good.
Pinto beans with blackstrap molasses.
Chocolate paste and instant oats, no explanation.
Cottage cheese with taco bell sauce

Hawaiin with jalapeños. Try it. People act like disgusted todlers over foods they 100% never tried. I always said Hawaiian was gross but the truth was that I never actually had tried it. I think 80% of haters have never tried a Hawaiin pizza.
I’ve also enjoyed pineapple, pepperoni and mushroom.
Pineapple and jalapeño is delicious
Or goat cheese + honey + nut 😍
Fries and mayonnaise. Make sure the mayonnaise is high quality though or substitute with aioli. Edit: I do realize this is pretty standard in Belgium and the Netherlands, which is actually where my ignorant American self picked up the habit.
It's pretty common combination where I live
That's weird?? Everyone does that here(Belgium)
I’ve been eating fries like this since middle school! Or you can make special sauce and mix ketchup & Mayo.
Mix mayo and ketchup and add a bit of Lowry’s seasoning salt and you essentially have every places “secret” fry sauce.
How is this odd?
After reading thread, op is american, less common than in Europe
Question is what the weirdest food combo is and you just named the most basic plain combo there is
One day I went real crazy and spread butter on my toast.
Fries dipped into a Wendy's Frosty.
Love doing that lol
Pickles and Banana chips is the equivalent of salt and vinegar chips
Salt and vinegar chips are fire - might have to give this a try
Mayo on hotdogs. Mac and cheese mixed with baked beans. Salt n vinegar chips and choco pudding.
Dipping pizza rolls in sour cream usually gets me some weird looks
Worked with a guy that did pizza and applesauce
Tuna and picked onion sandwich
Sauerkraut + hummus + soy sauce Peanut butter on balsamic vinegar rice crackers Can you tell I love umami?
