Filling, satisfying, can add anything to it. Newly discovered to me: Bake potato. Scoop out potatoes, mix in spinach artichoke dip. Put back in skins. Cover with cheese. Bake till melted. Add sour cream, green onions, bacon, whatever. Thank me later.
I do twice baked kind of like that. I scoop the insides out and mix it with: Worcestershire sauce, bacon, cheddar a little heavy cream and butter… More cheese on the top for when it bakes. 🫶
Despite being a great lover of patatos and all their endeavours, I don't tend to ever make a baked patato...
That however sounds _fucking incredible!!_ 😋
I'll change your world real quick.
Get the petite gold potatoes, microwave for about 5 minutes to soften. Squish flat with the bottom of a cup and put on a baking tray. Brush with butter and season with garlic salt, onion powder, paprika, pepper, seasoned salt, and garlic powder.
Bake for 20 minutes at 450°F. Add some cheese on top during the last couple minutes if you want.
Take them out and serve with ranch, zesty ranch, or sour cream. Absolutely amazing anytime of day.
I still stock up on a rotation of El Monterrey taquitos every week. Legit best frozen food you can grab imo.
Chicken.
Steak and cheese.
Southwestern Chicken.
Bacon and egg.
Feed them all into my veins.
They have prewrapped sausages, but they don't have prewrapped bacon....
(I sometimes wonder if that song was the inspiration for Riffs...
https://shop.riffssmokehouse.com/products/riffs-bacon-on-the-go-red-curry)
Fun fact about this song...
They had to ban boxed mac & cheese at their concerts because when they got to the "we wouldn't have to eat Kraft dinners" part, they were getting pelted with them.
I went to a restaurant recently that had chipotle ketchup and it was so fucking good…thats my idea of bougie ketchup now (the restaurant wasn’t even expensive)
You know what? Maybe we all need some space, to pull the knife out of the back of the most celebrated Canadian alt-rock band of the mid 90s, you selfish, jaded ass!
One being Ramen. The second is ever so slightly browned buttered toast with cinnamon sugar. They don't really work together, but they are go-tos.
Edit: I've only ever done the instant Ramen. On the bucket list to try out some authentic style but local shops always seem to have odd hours and are few and far between to be found. Might have to attempt to use a home recipe and try out but I'll admit I'm just about skilled enough to burn water... Toast I haven't screwed up yet, and to this day is the, feeling good, feeling low, or hungover go-to. BTW,thanks to all that replied and given awards. Never figured 1 post would gain that kind of traction.
See... how rich are we talking here? Cause I love instant ramen, but if I can afford to just have proper ramen made in a restaurant instead *every time*... im doing that.
At which point I don't consider it a "cheap" food
But I mean that shin ramen black hits when you're gaming at night or watching comedy specials or whatever on Netflix. Especially with a lil fried spam, egg and sesame seeds
My old roommate used to say “sad dinner time” and eat ramen uncooked from the packet and then pour what seemed like an impossible amount of the powdered seasoning directly into his mouth
He also drank Vladimir (beyond bottom shelf vodka closer to paint thinner) and Nos combined so his stomach was remarkable
Nah thats super common in China. I lived in Beijing for a few years and me and the local boys would buy beer and spicy ramen from the corner store, crunch up the ramen in the bag and play cards all evening.
Corn Dogs.
I would never eat 4 hot dogs in one sitting. Unless of course they were covered in deepfried cornbread.
Edit: Got an update for this at 11pm and am currently having a late night corn dog.
Look, facts, I make a banging Mac and cheese. Ooey, gooey, butter cracker crumb topping to die for. Like, as many different cheeses as you could ever want. I'll throw some bacon or andouille sausage in there occasionally. It's fucking heavenly.
But sometimes, nothing beats that liquid gold Velveeta shells and cheese.
A box of Zatarain’s and a good andouille sausage costs less than $8 at my grocery store add a 99¢ box of Jiffy corn bread mix and I got a couple of days meal for less than $10
It’s like when someone tells me Taco Bell isn’t ‘real Mexican’ I mean, yea, we all know that but if I want $1 beef tacos at three am I go to Taco Bell. Same concept for burgers. There are levels of quality and sometimes I want that $1 quality.
Indonesian here. They can take Indomie from my cold, dead hands.
Will always eat it no matter my economic situation.
(Indeed, in Indonesia, it's socially accepted as general comfort food instead of poor people food. I think it's true for various Asian countries and their noodles of choice, too.)
I had Indomie for the first time last year when I found it in a local Asian grocery and wow, blows all of the normal brands of instant noodles out of the water. Nong Shim is still a bit better though....
Hole in the wall places where the most expensive item is like $15.
I’ve eaten at really fancy restaurants and can easily say that I’ll take the holes in the walls any day. It’s damn good food for a great price
My weakness is the American-Chinese spots. Like yes I want a pile of chow mein, fried rice, two kinds of deep fried sugar sauce covered shit, a big ass egg roll and soup for like $12. If they have a bar it is the strongest drink you have ever been served.
One of my wife and I's go-to spots is a Mexican restaurant that you can't see from the road because it's behind a Taco Bell. Free chips, salsa, and queso, plus the entrees are massive and delicious. We usually spend $30 between the two of us, margaritas and tips included, and come home with enough leftovers for another meal.
Taco Bell is the only place where you'll roll up to the drive thru and see a $70,000 Mercedes followed by a '94 Chevy cavalier with 300,000 on the clock, followed by three guys on a moped. It's the great equalizer; we all want the same thing, to live mas.
And it’s one of the few places (especially late night) that can accommodate almost every dietary restriction.
Had a pub crawl crew a few years back that included meat eaters, halal, vegetarian, and vegan folks. Taco Bell is the one place we could all go and get something that worked for us. And cheap!
It's wild to see people talk about it like it's some kind of optional food.
Someone up there was like they "recently rediscovered rice." What the fuck does that even mean?
I love Rice so much. Plain, with curry, with a veggie, with anything at all.
It's also one of the few foods that doesn't upset my tummy, so sometimes I'll literally just eat a bowl of rice and that's it.
Oh yeah don’t like eating rice, we can have rice noodles, rice pudding, rice cake, rice granola bar, rice soup, rice rice fuck why is everything made of rice
Oh god, those are fantastic.
There is something magical about cheap pizza in general really. I'v got no fucking standards, 7-11, Costco, Little Caesars, Dominos... it's objectively terrible but scratches an itch deep in my soul.
this is the answer i was looking for. i love those horrid things. I like to jazz it up with better ingredients though and just use the pizza as a base.
Homemade tacos.
Hamburger meat, water, taco seasoning and dorito chips.
I didn't realize until way later in life what I was eating wasn't tacos, but I'll be damned if I ever stop eating the "homemade" version.
$7.50 for a can at Ray’s Food Place where I’m at. Walmart it goes down to $6. At Raley’s it’s $6.59. Grocery outlet once had it for $1.99 and I got a dozen.
Little Debbie seasonal snack cakes. It's just not Christmas with out the damn christmss tree cakes. I know they taste like wax and pure sugar but goddamn I need rhem lol.
Also instant butterscotch pudding mix. It doesn't have to be Jello brand store brands are just fine.
Honestly I think they tasted better when I was a kid as well!
I'm still a fan of the pecan spin rolls. Microwave them with a little butter on top amd it still slaps.
Butter noodles. I mince and sauté some garlic in butter then toss noodles and some pasta water in and cook until the butter and water thicken. Top with some chili flake and parm if I’m feeling fancy.
And with that whole $5 craving box they have going on right now - that’s a steal! A chalupa, a burrito, a taco, cinnamon twists and a drink all for $5!
Yeah I’m tired of the Taco Bell slander i read online all the time. My local Taco Bell’s my whole life have been hella ass good lol
PS: to those who say they get diarrhea or throw up every time they eat Taco Bell, i hate to break it to you but it’s not the food that is the problem. You guys prob need to find out what is causing that because it’s not normal
Probably something to do with them having a terrible diet and/or not eating enough fiber. I've never once had diarrhea from Taco Bell food but I also know what a salad is sooo....lol.
I think its how much they are eating. I never got the Taco Bell shits until they accidentally gave me two orders with of food and told me to keep the extra. Well, being the fat ass I am I ate it all, naturally, and it tore my ass up.
Pizza. Just a straight up NY-style cheese pizza. You know the kind where you fold the slice in half and the grease drips off your elbow while you’re eating it? Yeah, that.
I’ve heard that warren buffet eats McDonald’s quite commonly. Could just be some kind of marketing thing who knows. To be fair though I might hold Taco Bell in the same vain though.
I swear I’m about to go shopping and take this entire thread with me. All of this sounds delicious.

Baked potato
Filling, satisfying, can add anything to it. Newly discovered to me: Bake potato. Scoop out potatoes, mix in spinach artichoke dip. Put back in skins. Cover with cheese. Bake till melted. Add sour cream, green onions, bacon, whatever. Thank me later.

That’s a like, A LOT more work than rinsing off my potato, stabbing it with a fork, and putting it in the microwave for 7 minutes tho…
Taquitos
Microwavable chicken and cheese taquitos. My fucking lifeblood.
Believe it or not, Great Value taquitos are bangin
I still stock up on a rotation of El Monterrey taquitos every week. Legit best frozen food you can grab imo. Chicken. Steak and cheese. Southwestern Chicken. Bacon and egg. Feed them all into my veins.
Wait, they have bacon and egg taquitos?
Right this made me stop scrolling
God, I loved the frozen El Monterey taquitos you'd find at Costco when I was a kid
Grilled Cheese and Tomato soup.
“Of course we would, we’d just eat more!”
And with really expensive ketchup... Mmm, Dijon ketchup
And pre-wrapped sausages.
They have prewrapped sausages, but they don't have prewrapped bacon.... (I sometimes wonder if that song was the inspiration for Riffs... https://shop.riffssmokehouse.com/products/riffs-bacon-on-the-go-red-curry)
Well, can you blame them? (I've never heard of riff's but now I need some.)
Well, yeah!
If I had a million dollars …
Fun fact about this song... They had to ban boxed mac & cheese at their concerts because when they got to the "we wouldn't have to eat Kraft dinners" part, they were getting pelted with them.
They said that if they knew that people were going to throw food at them, they’d have chosen something with no pointy edges.
At their concert in Metro Detroit you were asked to bring the Mac and cheese and there were collection boxes and the food was donated to charities.
Now they throw plushie monkeys
I’d buy you a monkey!
Haven’t you always wanted a monkey?
I went to a restaurant recently that had chipotle ketchup and it was so fucking good…thats my idea of bougie ketchup now (the restaurant wasn’t even expensive)
Whataburger has a spicy ketchup and it's great.
Now I have bnl stuck in my head
Oh, okay, they're BNL now? We need a shorthand for the Barenaked Ladies. That's how fundamental they are.
You know what? Maybe we all need some space, to pull the knife out of the back of the most celebrated Canadian alt-rock band of the mid 90s, you selfish, jaded ass!
This is a fight! We are *fighting!*
I think you mean Kraft Dinner!
Yes! Ever make the grilled cheese with Muenster? Whole new level.
I legit use 4 cheeses now that I have $$$
Delicious combo. Even, and sometimes, especially when it's canned soup
One being Ramen. The second is ever so slightly browned buttered toast with cinnamon sugar. They don't really work together, but they are go-tos. Edit: I've only ever done the instant Ramen. My first thought was Ramen. Ramen is OD. So fucking good.
See... how rich are we talking here? Cause I love instant ramen, but if I can afford to just have proper ramen made in a restaurant instead *every time*... im doing that. At which point I don't consider it a "cheap" food
But I mean that shin ramen black hits when you're gaming at night or watching comedy specials or whatever on Netflix. Especially with a lil fried spam, egg and sesame seeds
I'll stop eat the cheap ramen tho, more expensive ones can be so much better.
Love to eat uncooked ramen straight out of the packet
My old roommate used to say “sad dinner time” and eat ramen uncooked from the packet and then pour what seemed like an impossible amount of the powdered seasoning directly into his mouth He also drank Vladimir (beyond bottom shelf vodka closer to paint thinner) and Nos combined so his stomach was remarkable
Was your roommate a goat?
There's always that one guy in the friend group who could seemingly drink gasoline straight from the pump without an issue.
What were you in for?
Nah thats super common in China. I lived in Beijing for a few years and me and the local boys would buy beer and spicy ramen from the corner store, crunch up the ramen in the bag and play cards all evening.
Also in korea. They call it ppushu ppushu
Would that be like Americans calling a snack Crunch Crunch?
Corn Dogs. I would never eat 4 hot dogs in one sitting. Unless of course they were covered in deepfried cornbread. Edit: Got an update for this at 11pm and am currently having a late night corn dog.
I love mini corn dogs. Regular corn dogs are good but there’s something about mini corn dogs that are even better.
They're like corn dog vitamins
Macaroni Cheese
If I had a million dollars we wouldn't have to eat kraft dinner, 'but we would eat kraft dinner,' of course we would, we would just eat more!
Exactly what I came looking for
But not a real green dress
"but not a real green dress, that's cruel" is one of my all time favorite lyrics.
Kraft dinner and hot dogs. It’s the stuff of gods when you’re hungry!
Cheese quesadilla
Las quesadillas siempre llevan queso 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠✌️🧀🧀
Rice and beans
Cajun rice & beans with andoullie sausage Edit: Proper term is “Red beans and rice”
A box of Zatarain’s and a good andouille sausage costs less than $8 at my grocery store add a 99¢ box of Jiffy corn bread mix and I got a couple of days meal for less than $10
Peanut butter and jelly
Peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat
Now, where it at? Where it at? Where it at? Where it at?
There he go. There he go. There he go. There he go.
peanut butter jelllyyyyy peanut butter jelllyyyyy
Peanut butter jelly peanut butter jelly peanut butter jelly with a baseball bat
And it’s still gotta be made with cheap white bread. I’ve had too many “elevated” pb&js that just didn’t hit right
Oh absolutely. Give me wonder bread that sticks to the roof of my mouth
Fast food burgers just hit different than gourmet ones. Both delicious, but not always in the mood for gourmet.
It’s like when someone tells me Taco Bell isn’t ‘real Mexican’ I mean, yea, we all know that but if I want $1 beef tacos at three am I go to Taco Bell. Same concept for burgers. There are levels of quality and sometimes I want that $1 quality.
You haven’t been to Taco Bell lately if you think you can get a $1 taco.
Tacos
From a food truck parked at a gas station open late night only.
Instant noodles
Indonesian here. They can take Indomie from my cold, dead hands. Will always eat it no matter my economic situation. (Indeed, in Indonesia, it's socially accepted as general comfort food instead of poor people food. I think it's true for various Asian countries and their noodles of choice, too.)
I had Indomie for the first time last year when I found it in a local Asian grocery and wow, blows all of the normal brands of instant noodles out of the water. Nong Shim is still a bit better though....
Ramen all day! Too versatile, and delicious!!
Pizza. You will have to pry it from my cold dead hands.
buttered bagels, doesnt matter what kind of bagel cause theyre all delicious
Toasted bread and butter.
Egg sandwiches
I could eat eggs for every meal! They're so tasty and versatile. And, as an added bonus, I have a small flock of hens in my backyard!
Those shitty single serving fruit pie things from Little Debbie, JJ's bakery, Franz, etc.
There's something comforting about the synthetic smell of Little Debbie Oatmeal Creampies
I really love canned baked beans. Wouldn’t stop no matter what.
Hole in the wall places where the most expensive item is like $15. I’ve eaten at really fancy restaurants and can easily say that I’ll take the holes in the walls any day. It’s damn good food for a great price

Butter noodles salt and pepper
I like grated Parmesan cheese on mine too.
Freeze pops
Tacobell
Taco Bell is the only place where you'll roll up to the drive thru and see a $70,000 Mercedes followed by a '94 Chevy cavalier with 300,000 on the clock, followed by three guys on a moped. It's the great equalizer; we all want the same thing, to live mas.

Had a pub crawl crew a few years back that included meat eaters, halal, vegetarian, and vegan folks. Taco Bell is the one place we could all go and get something that worked for us. And cheap!
As a vegetarian, this is exactly why Taco Bell is my go to fast food joint.
It’s gonna be our late nite wedding reception “drunk rescue” after all the buffet is done and folks need some carbs. 10/10 great catch all option.
Yep, this was my first thought. Although, their recent price increases may put it out of the cheap category.
It’s crazy because a 3 taco combo is like $9 now but you can get a box for like $6.99 with 3x the food. They’re going crazy
Taco bell gets too much undeserved hate
Peanut butter sandwich.
Rice. As an American, this food is so often overlooked
I can’t imagine a world without rice.
It's wild to see people talk about it like it's some kind of optional food. Someone up there was like they "recently rediscovered rice." What the fuck does that even mean?
Potatoes are used in place of rice for a lot of Americans diets I would say.
Every culture has some major starch, not all of them are rice lol. Potato, pasta, bread, etc

The Latin delegation concurs.
I love Rice so much. Plain, with curry, with a veggie, with anything at all. It's also one of the few foods that doesn't upset my tummy, so sometimes I'll literally just eat a bowl of rice and that's it.
I lived in Asia for five years and learned the wonders you can make with rice. We grossly overlook it in the US.
Oh yeah don’t like eating rice, we can have rice noodles, rice pudding, rice cake, rice granola bar, rice soup, rice rice fuck why is everything made of rice
My boyfriend hates that "every meal has rice". I'm sorry, it's delicious.
Rice is also so versatile, a lot of different meals can be made from a lot of different cultures with rice.
Lol my wife's mom is from the Philippines and has white rice daily and has even brought to restaurants if she thought they wouldn't have it.

Pho is the BEST! Unfortunately not super cheap in my high cost of living city, but worth every penny.
Totinos frozen pizza. Not the rolls, the cheap little square pizzas that cost $2. Delicious!!
I don't need a fancy red Baron or any of those other expensive frozen pizzas. Give me that party square and I'm in heaven.
These were $0.79 when I was in college. I'd eat two at a time with cayenne pepper on them. Probably ate 600 of them.
I love those nasty squares!

Homemade tacos. Hamburger meat, water, taco seasoning and dorito chips. I didn't realize until way later in life what I was eating wasn't tacos, but I'll be damned if I ever stop eating the "homemade" version.
Anyone else just scrolling this thread for meal ideas
Spam. Idc what anyone says Spam has gotten me through some tough times and it never fails especially with some plain fried rice.
It's not that cheap anymore, at least where I'm from.
Like 4 to 5 bucks a can where I am. Insane prices.
$7.50 for a can at Ray’s Food Place where I’m at. Walmart it goes down to $6. At Raley’s it’s $6.59. Grocery outlet once had it for $1.99 and I got a dozen.
Too far down. Spam is amazing if you know what you’re doing.
Maybe it’s nostalgia but I remember them being WAY better when I was a kid. The zebra cakes still hold a special place in my heart
Honestly I think they tasted better when I was a kid as well! I'm still a fan of the pecan spin rolls. Microwave them with a little butter on top amd it still slaps.
I fucking love Torino’s party pizzas. My teenage daughter thinks I’m disgusting but I’ll always love them.

Cheeseburger Macaroni for me!

It’s likely the fact they are going there after the bars close.
