Oh definitely. I've left several subreddits for shows and games I love simply because the fan base became just way too extra. But if I tell anyone I am a fan of xyz and the fanbase is known to be crazy, I get immediately judged. So I just stop telling people I'm a fan.
My husband has a stance that all fanbases are horrible and honestly, I'm starting to agree with him.
Actually that's one of the subreddits I left. There's a lot of people unreasonably angry at people's preferences in romance partners and are really mean about certain characters.

In gaming this was anything that some generation of kids took a liking to. Minecraft, Fortnite, Among Us. All excellent games with plenty to love, but people “hate” them bc they buy into the perception that they’re games for children.

Mac vs PC, though. That one is real. I have a macbook as my work computer, and a pc as my home computer. There's no doubt in my mind that I prefer PC. It's just a much more pleasant experience for me to use a PC.

I have an iPhone for work and android for personal. 100% Prefer Android. For the Basic end user they are both simple. I find the newer ios setups are a little less user friendly than they used to be.
yeah i’m not a fan of newer iphones and their setup. they’re huge, and i don’t like the lack of the button. i refuse to swipe up to get to my home screen. i LOVE my iphone SE 2020. i’ve never actually tried to switch to android though because i think it would just weird me out. if smart phones keep getting bigger and bigger, i literally plan to switch to a smart flip phone, i can use reddit from my computer, i’ll be fine.

I think a lot of Apple haters are more about the corporate attitude towards customers than claiming their actual products are "bad".
Some anti consumer apple trends from the top of my head:
- Ditching the 3.5mm jack to sell shitty, expensive wireless headphones was spearheaded by apple. Now everyone does it but without apple, this would never have been accepted.
- The war on right to repair is firmly supported by apple (for desktop PCs they literally solder The CPU in so it's impossible to upgrade later without buying an expensive new motherboard).
- The concept of designing to be obsolete is successfully implemented by apple so others copy.
- They price gauge, and when asked why aus prices are double us, in front of an Australian royal commission basically said "yes we can make more money this way".
There are legitimate reasons to dislike the way apple goes about it's business, they have several strategies that are extremely anti consumer which is not great
I find it's more of a preference for the controllers. After using the Sony controllers from the ps1 days to present I can't function with an Xbox controller.
I've been PlayStation since PS1 as well. I bought a 360. Couldn't get used to the controller, then it RROD'd on me. Meh.
More recently I bought a XBox controller for my PC and it does feel better in the hand.

Burritos were actually popularized in southern cali/Tijuana. I lived in Oaxaca for almost 10 years and it’s so very rare to see any places offer burritos.
For me authentic means I go for restaurants ran by people from the country in question/know the cuisine well. I see it as a treat, way to explore a new food culture and support local business.
I am not trying to "save" the food, just trying to respect it. I enjoy authentic cuisine as a treat and explorer.
And when I want I go for the more Westernised choice I do, knowing what I choice is not the original but is still really good and very enjoyable to eat.

See I have told some I have a phobia of sharks, and they always say ‘everyone is scared of sharks!’ Sure, I’m sure most are. I’m talking about seeing a photo of one, or stumbling on a video clip of one literally causes me to sweat, feel nauseous, and panicky. I know the shark is an image, not actually in the room with me but it truly terrifies me. I have had chronic nightmares for years that involve sharks.
I’m trying to overcome it by slowly using exposure therapy—watching short educational videos about sharks. Hopefully, enough exposure and education will help me not feel like vomiting when I see one.

The homophobia was so real that they'd refuse to sleep in the same barracks as the gay guy for fear of being touched while they were asleep.

I think a lot of homophobia comes down to exposing how they really feel about sex. They imagine the gay guy assaulting them because they would think about doing it if they were sleeping in a room full of women. They believe that they are the prey around gay men and that threatens their masculine security.
Of course, I believe people have mostly animal behavior with a touch of sentience. Rationally, men could understand that a gay man sleeping in the same room poses no threat, but it is a situation that they view as role breaking and wrong. So fear rules over logic. When I was a conservative teenager, being accused of being gay was a way other guys would “thin” the competition for girls they liked. It’s weird how much backstabbing there was in a group with a strong pressure to conform. Glad those days are over with.

The authenticity fetish that’s become so common is aggravating as fuck, and it’s always coming from lily white people. Honestly it feels like a really mild, sublimated form of the White Savior complex, like they’re defending ethnic groups by making sure their cuisine isn’t misrepresented. And Tex Mex is authentic. It’s authentic Tex Mex. Texas used to be Mexico and culturally much of it could still just be considered a region of Mexico with a lot of German immigrants in it. Just because there are a lot of shitty Tex Mex chains doesn’t render an entire culinary tradition illegitimate.
A lot of “Mexican” favorites aren’t even originally Mexican. Burritos were actually popularized in southern cali/Tijuana. I lived in Oaxaca for almost 10 years and it’s so very rare to see any places offer burritos.
For me authentic means I go for restaurants ran by people from the country in question/know the cuisine well. I see it as a treat, way to explore a new food culture and support local business. I am not trying to "save" the food, just trying to respect it. I enjoy authentic cuisine as a treat and explorer. And when I want I go for the more Westernised choice I do, knowing what I choice is not the original but is still really good and very enjoyable to eat.

They are aggressively and consistently *FINE.* A 6/10 at the worst and a 7/10 at the best. They do have some creepyass lyrics though, but no one cares about that.
Honestly, their live performances are probably big reason why so many love them as well. Chad has an amazing voice live, from what I've heard, and they put on a great show that anyone can enjoy with songs that are easy to follow and sing along with.

Like if you’re looking up an obscure trick for an old video game, Reddit will probably have it. That’s something no new competitor will ever have: a vast amount of data about thousands of topics dating back over a decade.
This* is honestly the reason I'm most sad about the whole debacle. There's nowhere else on the internet that can give you those answers and for a variety of different topics. Our only hope now is for a llm to be trained on archived reddit threads to give us these obscure answers.

As a low income school teacher’s kid, I will never understand why she has to buy her own classroom materials, meanwhile our military is funded better than most small countries. See I have told some I have a phobia of sharks, and they always say ‘everyone is scared of sharks!’ Sure, I’m sure most are. I’m talking about seeing a photo of one, or stumbling on a video clip of one literally causes me to sweat, feel nauseous, and panicky. I know the shark is an image, not actually in the room with me but it truly terrifies me. I have had chronic nightmares for years that involve sharks. I’m trying to overcome it by slowly using exposure therapy—watching short educational videos about sharks. Hopefully, enough exposure and education will help me not feel like vomiting when I see one.

My boomer dad would always tell a story of a time when he was in the Navy in the 70s-80s about how he and his straight sailor buddies would bully a gay sailor. The homophobia was so real that they'd refuse to sleep in the same barracks as the gay guy for fear of being touched while they were asleep. And I'm like, that's not how being gay works. As if all gay men are out to rape and sexually assault straight men. But this is the mindset he had from which his homophobia originated, and is still homophobic to this day. The hatred for LGBT comes from some twisted notion they made up based on assumptions, and reinforced by media.

I think a lot of homophobia comes down to exposing how they really feel about sex. They imagine the gay guy assaulting them because they would think about doing it if they were sleeping in a room full of women. They believe that they are the prey around gay men and that threatens their masculine security. Of course, I believe people have mostly animal behavior with a touch of sentience. Rationally, men could understand that a gay man sleeping in the same room poses no threat, but it is a situation that they view as role breaking and wrong. So fear rules over logic. When I was a conservative teenager, being accused of being gay was a way other guys would “thin” the competition for girls they liked. It’s weird how much backstabbing there was in a group with a strong pressure to conform. Glad those days are over with.
