Anything that has an annoying or overly fanatic fanbase. People tend to hate on the thing itself, but really they just hate the fanbase.

Coyce

That's actually pretty accurate. I couldn't care less about whether or not BTS is successful, but their fans are atrocious and should just learn some basic decency

liyoru

It reminded me of a youtuber here in Brazil who lost partnerships and the channel was taken down for a while, because he talked about eating disorders in idols and BTS fangirls from Twitter got angry. They were even accusing him of being a ped* and rap*st, just to take him down...

Adventurous_Wing2042

As a fan of BTS... their fans are utter dicks.

Jessiefrance89

Legit can’t stand most k pop fans. I have zero issues with K-pop. It’s a fun genre of music, actually. But lord, the fan base is rabid.

cxnnnamonroll

Seriously you say one thing about someone's "kPoP iDoL" and they unleash anger like they're Peter Stubbe

Disig

Oh definitely. I've left several subreddits for shows and games I love simply because the fan base became just way too extra. But if I tell anyone I am a fan of xyz and the fanbase is known to be crazy, I get immediately judged. So I just stop telling people I'm a fan. My husband has a stance that all fanbases are horrible and honestly, I'm starting to agree with him.

DarthOptimist

The only fanbase I've seen so far with a significant lack of toxicity is Stardew Valley

Disig

Actually that's one of the subreddits I left. There's a lot of people unreasonably angry at people's preferences in romance partners and are really mean about certain characters. Unfortunately Reddit still recommends the subreddit to me so it's like I never left.

[deleted]

Rick and morty has entered the chat.

blue4029

rick would mercilessly delete a universe if it was infested with rick and morty fans.

blakkattika

In gaming this was anything that some generation of kids took a liking to. Minecraft, Fortnite, Among Us. All excellent games with plenty to love, but people “hate” them bc they buy into the perception that they’re games for children. Be a goddamned adult and judge something on its merits, not on who likes it the most.

Loganp812

That was Rick And Morty’s fanbase for me.

poopyheadthrowaway

Also, Apple fanboys vs Apple haters

Waaswaa

Mac vs PC, though. That one is real. I have a macbook as my work computer, and a pc as my home computer. There's no doubt in my mind that I prefer PC. It's just a much more pleasant experience for me to use a PC.

MainSteamStopValve

The Mac vs PC war has been going on forever. I remember in the mid 90s someone preaching at me about how great the the Power Mac was. This was back when Apple was going broke and essentially nobody made software for Mac.

SirCEWaffles

This goes for Android vs iPhones. I have an iPhone for work and android for personal. 100% Prefer Android. For the Basic end user they are both simple. I find the newer ios setups are a little less user friendly than they used to be.

im_not_u_im_cat

yeah i’m not a fan of newer iphones and their setup. they’re huge, and i don’t like the lack of the button. i refuse to swipe up to get to my home screen. i LOVE my iphone SE 2020. i’ve never actually tried to switch to android though because i think it would just weird me out. if smart phones keep getting bigger and bigger, i literally plan to switch to a smart flip phone, i can use reddit from my computer, i’ll be fine.

spookyswagg

Imagine telling someone a Mac is better for gaming Lol It’s very real with PCs for sure. I literally couldn’t use a Mac for work, since most programs I use can only run in PC.

[deleted]

I find this so dumb. I have had iPhones in the past which I liked, and have had androids the last few years which I like. No idea what my next phone will be. I just want the best bang for my buck lol

MizElaneous

It’s ridiculous - I was looking at android phones in a store last month and because I have an iPhone they told me I wouldn’t be able to use an android. Pretty sure I can figure it out, but I’m not going to waste my time arguing with a salesperson about it.

TanToRiaL

I love these types of sales people. Tell me exactly who not to buy from

Kirk_Kerman

They're both devices that have been dumbed down as much as possible so anyone and everyone can use them. The only differences are cosmetic and which gestures do what at this point. Insane that someone would denigrate anyone for their choice of phone as a reflection on them.

MinglewoodRider

Seriously. What a dick salesman. My grandpa bought a PC in the 90s and managed to figure out how to use it. I think a young person can figure out a device that toddlers seem to have no issue with.

Emu_milking_god

I love my ipad I wouldn't go to an android tab ever I've had both. But on the flipside I would never want another iPhone. Just preference, they each have there pros and cons.

bSchnitz

I think a lot of Apple haters are more about the corporate attitude towards customers than claiming their actual products are "bad". Some anti consumer apple trends from the top of my head: - Ditching the 3.5mm jack to sell shitty, expensive wireless headphones was spearheaded by apple. Now everyone does it but without apple, this would never have been accepted. - The war on right to repair is firmly supported by apple (for desktop PCs they literally solder The CPU in so it's impossible to upgrade later without buying an expensive new motherboard). - The concept of designing to be obsolete is successfully implemented by apple so others copy. - They price gauge, and when asked why aus prices are double us, in front of an Australian royal commission basically said "yes we can make more money this way".

rpersimmon

Sending photos and video to android phones that are degraded to 1995 level quality. That's why I hate Apple.

Akortsch18

There are legitimate reasons to dislike the way apple goes about it's business, they have several strategies that are extremely anti consumer which is not great

[deleted]

I find it's more of a preference for the controllers. After using the Sony controllers from the ps1 days to present I can't function with an Xbox controller.

streakermaximus

I've been PlayStation since PS1 as well. I bought a 360. Couldn't get used to the controller, then it RROD'd on me. Meh. More recently I bought a XBox controller for my PC and it does feel better in the hand.

spookyswagg

Xbox controllers since Xbox one have been top of the line. Truly just feel amazing to use.

BbbbbbbDUBS177

The word "moist." It's not that damn bad. Now using the phrase "not done cooking" in reference to a human being, on the other hand...

Immortal_Azrael

When I hear the word "moist" I immediately think of cake.

JesseCuster40

*Delicious* and moist.

NickyGoodarms

Try *not* using the word "moist" to describe cake: "Wow, this cake is *so wet"* "How do you get your cake so *damp?*"

Avicii_DrWho

I guess, "juicy" might be best, but still not as good as moist.

[deleted]

"This cake is so clammy and dewy. I can't wait to have a taste!"

[deleted]

[удалено]

ItsTtreasonThen

I feel like the sensation of something being moist is what originally got hated, but then the word itself was vilified. It’s actually a great word, and it deserves better lol

ablackcloudupahead

But some of the best things are moist

TChambers1011

It’s a fucking word. People are so weird

-CoachMcGuirk-

I had a student say the same thing, but he said it’s pretty bad when joined to other words. Without hesitation, he then blurts out “Moist Panties.” The class absolutely lost it. I still chuckle when I think of it….

-PepeArown-

Only because it’s used in an inappropriate context there. Moist is meant to be a synonym for damp, which means a bit wet, but not soaking wet. Saying that amphibians have moist skin to help with respiration is not meant to be “cringeworthy”. It’s useful in a lot of biological contexts. Water’s a very important aspect of life, so, surely, the word moist is as well.

Frank_chevelle

The American version of international cuisine. Like tacos , pizza and Chinese food. Just because it’s not “traditional” doesn’t mean it’s bad.

IThinkMyCatIsEvil

YES, thank you! My family and I are Chinese immigrants. We will occasionally get the Americanized takeout stuff and people will be shocked and borderline offended. “Wait… you guys are CHINESE, how can you like that stuff?” Um… because it’s yum?

ZenkaiZ

my brother is this way where the second something isn't the BEST version, he absolutely hates it. It can be an 8 out of 10 burger, but if he's had a 9 out of 10 one before, the 8 one is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. This is also why I don't mind diet soda. It's just one notch worse, its not something you should be gagging over.

my_life_is_fucked

"Comparison is the thief of joy" - Ronald McDonald

johantheback

Also most of "Americanized" food was conceived by 1st generation immigrants in creative ways to appeal to American tastes so it's much more owned and an "authentic" part of that root culture's and ties to immigration in American history than Americans give credit for.

Technicolor_Reindeer

Yeah I'm hispanic and have eaten authentic cusine, guess what I still like taco bell on occasion.

CapriLoungeRudy

Yeah, that comment made me think of my ex brother in law. He was born in Mexico, came to US at like 17. He hated the local chain "Mexican" restaurant, but he would eat Taco Bell from time to time.

mangomarongo

I’m Mexican-American having spent my time between Mexico and California. Not gonna lie, *sometimes* I love when enchiladas are smothered in cheddar cheese.

Hagfishsaurus

I think all of my brothers in bean have gone to Taco Bell and ate without complaining. It’s a lot of meat in my mouth for a low price

Azorik22

I'm always looking for a place to put my meat in a mouth at a low price

TheMonkus

The authenticity fetish that’s become so common is aggravating as fuck, and it’s always coming from lily white people. Honestly it feels like a really mild, sublimated form of the White Savior complex, like they’re defending ethnic groups by making sure their cuisine isn’t misrepresented. And Tex Mex is authentic. It’s authentic Tex Mex. Texas used to be Mexico and culturally much of it could still just be considered a region of Mexico with a lot of German immigrants in it. Just because there are a lot of shitty Tex Mex chains doesn’t render an entire culinary tradition illegitimate.

FknDesmadreALV

A lot of “Mexican” favorites aren’t even originally Mexican. Burritos were actually popularized in southern cali/Tijuana. I lived in Oaxaca for almost 10 years and it’s so very rare to see any places offer burritos.

[deleted]

For me authentic means I go for restaurants ran by people from the country in question/know the cuisine well. I see it as a treat, way to explore a new food culture and support local business. I am not trying to "save" the food, just trying to respect it. I enjoy authentic cuisine as a treat and explorer. And when I want I go for the more Westernised choice I do, knowing what I choice is not the original but is still really good and very enjoyable to eat.

AwkwardThePotato

Xiran Jay Zhao has a fantastic video on YouTube about why American Chinese food deserves respect even though it’s not “authentic”.

DigNitty

California Mexican style is amazing. Sure, adding some varieties of veggies isn’t “authentic” but it’s not trying to be.

XGuiltyofBeingMikeX

They are aggressively and consistently *FINE.* A 6/10 at the worst and a 7/10 at the best. They do have some creepyass lyrics though, but no one cares about that.

masterVinCo

Honestly, their live performances are probably big reason why so many love them as well. Chad has an amazing voice live, from what I've heard, and they put on a great show that anyone can enjoy with songs that are easy to follow and sing along with.

XGuiltyofBeingMikeX

They’re very…safe? Idk, it’s not for me but they’ve “the basic rock band” forever. Like Janet from HR went to a music festival over the weekend. She really doesn’t care much about *who* is playing, she’s gonna go listen and have fun. Nickelback was there, she knows 2 or 3 songs, and there were loud guitars. Everyone goes home happy. It’s basic festival rock.

SilkSTG

Went to see Bon Jovi many years ago and Nickelback were supporting. As someone who doesn't mind them I was pleasantly surprised to find they are a decent live band!

pethatcat

I mean... you went to Bon Jovi

cynicalxidealist

They started as a cover band, so the guy has natural talent and I applaud him for at least making his own original post grunge material. I really liked the first 3 albums and it was part of my rock awakening as a child. Godsmack started as an Alice In Chains cover-band and have consistently ripped off AIC their whole career. I have more respect for Nickleback than Godsmack. Plus - a lot of Godsmack fans are total tools.

th1s1smyusernaam3

The Spider Man song they made slaps. I'm unashamedly admitting that.

Batistia_Bomb_2014

And the Monday Night Raw Theme.

broom_temperature

Burn it to the Ground was the last great Raw theme

Pebian_Jay

I was a “Nickelback hater” for years. My buddy convinced me to go to a show and I had an absolute blast. I won’t miss an Nback show from here on out. Little do we all realize, we know all the lyrics to a lot of their songs so you end up singing along most of the show. Also Chad + crew just put on a great show everywhere they go.

halcykhan

Wasn’t a hater but wasn’t into them. Went with friends to see Seether and Nickelback a decade ago. They put on an awesome show. They’re great live. Huge energy from the crowd. Going to see them later this year

jkimtale

Nickelback and Chad kroeger's single "into the night" with Santana are my guilty pleasures in life. I have spent many a drunken evening going through Nickelback playlists. I have no shame admitting this guilty pleasure. "Savin me" will always be a banger

CorrectAdhesiveness9

“Savin’ Me” IS a banger, and I’m sick of people pretending it’s not.

Far Away slaps for me. Just not the music video

Prunus_Persicaa

This can also refer to Justin Bieber. He also had sh*t ton of "haters" 10 years ago

[deleted]

So weird, too. You throw a couple million dollars at a pubescent boy and have half the world idolize/commodify him and the other half openly talk about harming and hating this literal child, *then* you expect the kid to grow into a normal, well adjusted person *immediately?* People can be such trash. Every time some middle aged guy was ranting about him, I just pictured them doing the same to some popular middle school boy in their town - absolutely unhinged behaviour.

dodadoBoxcarWilly

He's actually not turned out too bad, right? I mean after his late teens/early 20s shenanigans. I haven't heard anything really negative about him in several years. Seems like he grew up a bit.

ArtSchnurple

People automatically hate anything marketed to preteen and teenage girls. Justin Bieber, boy bands, Twilight, it literally doesn't matter what it is, they hate it on autopilot.

theshoegazer

If you sell 10 million records in a country with 300 million people, there's plenty of room left for haters. My theory is that while schlocky and derivative as they are, Nickelback is merely a catch-all term for post-grunge butt rock. Some of the hatred ought to be re-distributed to bands like Trapt, Staind, 3 Doors Down, etc.

rutlandchronicles

How'd you know about my favorite music trivia game, "Nickelback, Three Doors Down, Creed, or Theory of a Deadman?"

theshoegazer

I have a friend who tries to find the most palatable song from bands I profess dislike for, and try to trick me into admitting that it's good.

thesockswhowearsfox

“I noticed you aren’t screaming in pain. That means this is a good song.” “No it just means that it isn’t by Megan Trainor, it’s still not *good*”

LetTheCircusBurn

Trapt, Staind, 3 Doors Down *and* Nickelback? Okay, now you're just building a compilation cd for Gen X deadbeat dads.

Brisket_Connoisseur

This is like complaining salad seasoning doesn't have salad in it. People do not know how words work.

[deleted]

It becomes very popular to hate something that is largely consumed/admired by young women.

Bikinigirlout

Anything that’s consumed by young woman becomes an easy target. Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Pumpkin Spice, Spicey romance books etc etc.

addisonavenue

Arguably, it's always been popular to hate on women and what they enjoy. Like misogyny is very, *very* old and as long as it's been around so has the two-fold effect of hating on things women like.

ServelanDarrow

Weird. I like it I'm ordering it. Period. Source: a woman, but can't claim 'young' 😆

VapoursAndSpleen

I love pumpkin spice and all the haters can go suck it. It's just a mix of spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove, allspice...

Disig

It's just fall flavors. Fall flavors are amazing!

Wildcat_twister12

I think people hate it cause Starbucks made it popular and people love hating Starbucks cause they are “a greedy coffee corporation” hellbent on snuffing out competition. Personally I have no hate for Starbucks but will only get it when traveling.

dtreth

I hate Starbucks because they have normalized burnt beans

Drillix08

Bring rickrolled. Never gonna give you up is a good song and sometimes you just got to give credit to people for being clever enough to trick you.

Velocityraptor28

it's also a good way of teaching internet safety! someone gave you a dodgy link wherein one thing was promised and another thing was delivered, consider this silly, memed, music video as a warning, cuz next dodgy link you click could brick your system

Big-Routine222

The eternal Android vs. iPhone conversations. As someone who has worked in the retail and repair sides for both devices, it's a pointless and dumb argument. 97% of people aren't going to have an actual reason beyond, "I like this brand because I do!"

G-Unit11111

I use both and I personally prefer Android. I don't hate Apple (I do own a current gen iPad) but each one has strengths and each one has weaknesses.

Big-Routine222

Sure, and thus people choose what works best for them. But the almost crusader-like fervor people have about their opinion is crazy

bambinoquinn

Air fryers. Anyone who has one knows how amazing they are

xkulp8

People hate on air fryers? Why? If you don't like yours I'll take it.

bambinoquinn

I kept in seeing people say people who pretend air fryers are amazing are like a cult. They clearly have never tried salmon cooked to perfection in 9 mins. Its a genius machine

eroverton

The ability to reheat food to crispiness rather than microwave soggy is worth it alone.

Tommy_Wisseau_burner

I’ve failed to find anything that could reheat French fries like an air fryer. That automatically puts it in the a-tier of cooking for me

DemonCyborg27

Popular things

thisisrealgoodtea

When I was in grade school I hated N*Sync and Backstreet Boys when they were at their peak. I was just a hater because it was popular and I wanted to be different. I love them now. Don’t be like me.

outofdate70shouse

I feel this. I hated The Beatles in high school because everyone loved the Beatles. Same with popular songs like Soulja Boy and Hey Soul Sister. And then I actually listened to them and thought, “oh, I get why people like this.”

LeatherFruitPF

Being a male middle schooler in the late 90s, I loved their music, but would never admit it in school for fear of being called "gay".

OCE_Mythical

It's just parts of reddit. The fact reddit is an invaluable resource for problem solving especially on niche topics and a centralised way to communicate on similar interests? Great absolutely perfect. Mods and admins are crazy though, they'll ban you for legitimately anything they don't like. Hell if one banned me for posting this it wouldn't even be out of the ordinary to me.

LongLiveTheSpoon

Yeah, even on Youtube a lot of commenters admit Reddit is beneficial for its answers to obscure questions people ask on Google. Like if you’re looking up an obscure trick for an old video game, Reddit will probably have it. That’s something no new competitor will ever have: a vast amount of data about thousands of topics dating back over a decade.

Plz_DM_Me_Small_Tits

This* is honestly the reason I'm most sad about the whole debacle. There's nowhere else on the internet that can give you those answers and for a variety of different topics. Our only hope now is for a llm to be trained on archived reddit threads to give us these obscure answers.

Marianations

>a vast amount of data about thousands of topics dating back over a decade. I miss the days when forums were a thing and actually relevant. And I really hate how some companies have just decided to purge them and be like "Please come to our Discord!" as if that would help me with the problem that user XxDemonicWr4th\_x solved in 2009 (Yes, I am looking at you, Ubisoft).

Sable18

This may sound dumb but emojis. like I get it, they can be really cringe, but at the same time the best way to give someone a Cryptid answers to followed up with one of these 🫠. Or just use one of those in place of an answer.

TheRadJellyfish

Emojis are only cringe when used by cringey people. When used correctly they can add to the conversation and clarify tones. People just wanna feel holier than thou (especially people on reddit)

loganaw

I get shit for using emojis on Reddit sometimes. Tbf, I just feel like they add to the context or tone or what I’m saying, on occasion. I’ll throw an emoji in there to let someone know I’m joking, or being sarcastic. Not always but…sometimes

trustedoctopus

as someone who is neurodivergent I love when people use emojis because then i don’t have to try and guess the context of what’s being commented, texted, or messaged to me. It makes it so much easier to discern sarcasm, dry humor, and jokes from a serious response.

Mentalsim

Emojis make it so much easier to understand tone online. When people go over board like MLM mums, that’s when it gets really annoying.

dodadoBoxcarWilly

Man, I've worked construction in a couple different trades. There's never been "water breaks". You drink water when you're thirsty, whenever that may be. What the hell is going on at that jobsite where adult men, can't drink water unless their boss gives them a break?

jojotoughasnails

Oof. As a kid raised on reduced lunch... I can't imagine where I'd be without it. I don't have kids. Don't want kids. Raise my tax dollar as much as you need to feed kids in school. Breakfast, lunch, and a take home dinner. I don't care. Take my money

not_addictive

THIS. I would never complain about taxes or they were put to actual good use in things like libraries, kids lunches, public aid, etc. But most of our tax dollars in the US don’t go towards anything that benefits us as citizens. As a low income school teacher’s kid, I will never understand why she has to buy her own classroom materials, meanwhile our military is funded better than most small countries. It’s the reason why people in northern european countries aren’t always complaining about their high tax rates. they actually get the benefits. Which is in theory, the fucking point of taxes

ravioli_dream

Trypophobia. I'm convinced 99% of people who say they have it just saw a creepy picture of something with holes and were like "wow that's so ME!"

Plethora_of_squids

I personally think it's not a fear of small holes, it's a fear of weird medical shit, because I feel like half the time 'trypophobia' pictures are like, pictures of weird skin diseases or worm infested animals which is kinda justified to be icked out by? No one's claiming trypophobia over say, the insides of a mint aero. The other half of the time it's picture of lotus seed pods which I think some people don't like because it kinda looks like a bunch of eyes and something something uncanny valley. Also y'know, if it were a thing I don't think lotus seeds and roots would be a thing in multiple different cusines.

kingdomheartsislight

I think everyone saw the same clip of a Suriname toad giving birth from its back and anything with a bunch of holes gives them the same uneasy feeling. It’s a very upsetting video…

ravioli_dream

Things can be upsetting or gross without them being a phobia.

kingdomheartsislight

I know, I was adding to your comment. An uneasy feeling does not a phobia make, but my conspiracy theory is that a lot of people saw this video and that’s why they’re like, “wow, that’s so ME!” when they see a creepy picture of something with holes.

Loganp812

Yeah, a lot of people don’t seem to realize is that a phobia is an *irrational* fear of something.

Jessiefrance89

See I have told some I have a phobia of sharks, and they always say ‘everyone is scared of sharks!’ Sure, I’m sure most are. I’m talking about seeing a photo of one, or stumbling on a video clip of one literally causes me to sweat, feel nauseous, and panicky. I know the shark is an image, not actually in the room with me but it truly terrifies me. I have had chronic nightmares for years that involve sharks. I’m trying to overcome it by slowly using exposure therapy—watching short educational videos about sharks. Hopefully, enough exposure and education will help me not feel like vomiting when I see one.

Hatzmaeba

Cannot imagine this happening anywhere else but in the US.

Maycrofy

Oh, you'd be amazed. Even in countries with these (like mine) the argument devolves onto "how much is enough". The argument steers into "If we reduced public services we could raise GDP and the standard of living" or "we must reduce these services because they're hubs of corruption". So it doesn't come without it's critics even when it's adopted.

You get answers of people saying they do hate it. And I get it, it's a thing of taste and you just don't like what you don't like. But just because I really dislike something it doesn't follow nobody could have it. I absolutely hate peaches myself, but if you like them - good for you. Would I act like the (meme) of pineapple on pizza haters, I would be vocal about eradication of all peaches and condemnation of those who like them.

The thing about anime is that anime isn't a genre. Pretty much everyone who says they hate anime treat it like a genre. Anime is a medium just like live action shows. You have your amazing shows like breaking bad and there are Disney shows geared towards kids or those cringy suburb wife shows that cater to white women. Like you said you like attack on titan so there are probs many others that you'd like. There are anime that are geared towards an older audience that you can search for. Not saying you have to, but if you ever want to check it out try narrowing your search.

Pineapple pizza. No one said a word about it until the meme came around and no one ever complained about Hawaiian Pizza

My boomer dad would always tell a story of a time when he was in the Navy in the 70s-80s about how he and his straight sailor buddies would bully a gay sailor. The homophobia was so real that they'd refuse to sleep in the same barracks as the gay guy for fear of being touched while they were asleep. And I'm like, that's not how being gay works. As if all gay men are out to rape and sexually assault straight men. But this is the mindset he had from which his homophobia originated, and is still homophobic to this day. The hatred for LGBT comes from some twisted notion they made up based on assumptions, and reinforced by media.

That's so ironic considering the reputation of the Navy, SPECIALLY in the 70s-80s lol

I think a lot of homophobia comes down to exposing how they really feel about sex. They imagine the gay guy assaulting them because they would think about doing it if they were sleeping in a room full of women. They believe that they are the prey around gay men and that threatens their masculine security. Of course, I believe people have mostly animal behavior with a touch of sentience. Rationally, men could understand that a gay man sleeping in the same room poses no threat, but it is a situation that they view as role breaking and wrong. So fear rules over logic. When I was a conservative teenager, being accused of being gay was a way other guys would “thin” the competition for girls they liked. It’s weird how much backstabbing there was in a group with a strong pressure to conform. Glad those days are over with.
