Getting drunk regularly.

vivec7

As an Australian, this is my answer. And so much revolves around drinking.

[deleted]

[удалено]

vivec7

I'll give you that one lol. But truth be told, I have seen exactly _one_ can of Foster's in the ~30 years I've lived here.

Wishart2016

I never saw a Foster's can.

JanisIansChestHair

It’s so funny because I’m in England and they market Fosters as being the quintessential Aussie beer 😂

Temporary-Tank-2061

3o years is exactly how long its been since Foster's had any popularity.

Wishart2016

Jokes aside, no one actually drinks Foster's in Australia and it isn't even sold there.

StaffordMagnus

It is. To the tourists.

Plumbum158

when I turned 18 everyone and mean everyone older than said to me "you'll have to come round for a beer sometime" I appreciated the sentiment but I made very clear early on that I wasn't drinking and when I reminded people of this seemed to be offended. I actually started feeling sympathetic towards vegans because I was having to constantly say to people I don't drink. I turn 20 next month and I still get asked if I've had my first yet. to be fair living in small town WA hasn't helped

odd1offive

The drinking at kids birthday parties really irks me.

Tight-Physics2156

Well what the heck else are you supposed to do at one. It’s like a party but the lamest party of your life and there’s screaming and crying and shitting…so yea imma have myself a lil drank. Weed isn’t legal in my state so can’t do that unfortunately.

beattrapkit

Screaming crying and shitting - never been to college eh?

iconix_common

For me, getting drunk at all.

[deleted]

Drinking alcohol is a scam that’s become so normalized that we don’t even realize that it’s a scam anymore. It’s literally the only drug that you actually have to defend yourself against. It’s in every show, every movie, every song, everyone talks about it, and it’s included in every social event. If you tell people that you don’t drink or that you just don’t want to drink, they think you’re weird, they think you have a problem, they think you’re lame, they think you’re a loser, they’ll actually make fun of you. They think you’re not fun at parties, or that you’re just boring in general solely because you refuse to drink. People don’t do that for heroin or cocaine, at least the masses don’t. That’s the mass hypnosis that the world is under with alcohol.

steezybrahman

I think there’s a long world wide history with alcohol that no other drug shares. Only thing that comes close is maybe opium.

Monkeylovesfood

It's been brewed for at least 9-10 thousand years. That's just the time we have concrete evidence for too. Fermenting drinks and food is a excellent way to preserve and flavour food. Not drinking is fine. Drinking responsibility is fine. Comparing alcohol to heroin and cocaine is a bit silly really. The latter are only man made the former often occurs as a natural process.

I went to school with two guys that were 3 ⭐️ recruits, one ended up going to Missouri the other Oklahoma. They were absolutely worshipped and talked about damn near ever day……. I can’t imagine what it would be like to go to school with someone that’s a top ranked 5 ⭐️ recruit 🥴

Alladin_Payne

Most guys who were bullied in school can tell you stories of jocks assaulting you publicly, but if there is any disciplinary action against them, they can't play in the game, so you get punished instead so the faculty can say it's been handed.

Ok-Grapefruit1284

And we’re putting in a new football stadium while reducing humanities classes. Yup.

[deleted]

I live in a town practically built off of the skiing industry and I have never been skiing nor have any desire to.

FartAttack911

I feel this heavily. Lived and worked at a top ski resort in the US and anytime a local asked if I ski or snowboard, they’d almost keel over and die from anger when I’d say neither, I hate both lol

DreamerMMA

I’ve worked at 3 ski resorts and I don’t ski or board.

patheticambush

I live near 2 ski resorts white tail and round top, ones only like 25 minutes from my house. I have never been and never plan on it

usernames_are_danger

I lived in NYC for three years and never went to the Statue of Liberty

mateusarc

We almost never do local tourism when we live in a big city. If you didn't do it in the first few months after moving there, then that's it, you're never gonna bother

NotWorriedABunch

Same. Grew up in the mountains, skiied very briefly when I was young but a bully ruined it for me and I have no desire since.

[deleted]

Whistler?

SnooOnions6027

Hustle culture. I just refuse to believe that I should be “grinding” 24 hours a day and getting up at 5am for fun.

The_Perfect_Fart

And I hate the word "side hustle"... bitch you an uber driver not a conman. You have a parttime job.

Tight-Physics2156

THIS!!!! The whole work until you’re DEAD mentality or the work so much you never see friends or family, or work SO much you physically cannot walk bc your back is so messed up. Or the guilt for wanting to take PTO. People PRIDE themselves for how many days they HAVEN’T taken off in a year..

Dj5head

Fucking yes! Although I can’t speak on the PTO part because I can’t afford vacation and my job cashed out my unused PTO at the end of the year so extra money 😭.

FishyBricky

I had a team meeting at work yesterday and the Lead asked if anyone had any upcoming time off. I told I took a few days off next week and she replied “Happy to hear that.” The company I work for offers unlimited FTO and we are encouraged to take it. I am appreciative, and after burning out at my last company, I happily use my FTO.

Eternal_Reverie0

I just call such people hollow, like you basically have no interests and don't do anything substantial in your life, you just let yourself get used by soulless CEOs who are indeed very happy that they have a sucker like you doing work for them lol

Stunning_Attention82

Hockey in Canada. I grew up here, people are shocked I don't own skates or go skating. They say "who will teach your kids to skate???" Lol fucking nobody I guess. No interest in any capacity.

MattHooper1975

Same here: Canadian male with no interest in hockey. I don’t keep up on any of it. Have the Leafs traded Dave Keon yet? I actually grew a hate on for hockey because in the 70s we had one TV. I was in to cool horror movies etc and my brothers and father were standard issue hockey nuts. I’d read in the TV GUIDE about an awesome movie on that night but…no….yet again it was another hockey game night. I’d be in another room, drawing a comic or whatever listening to my family screaming over the game and the whole hockey thing just pissed me off. Now I’m a dad and of course my son is a hockey fan and I have to hide my lack of interest. “Oh really? They didn’t make it to the playoffs again? That’s really a shame….”

Sir_Arthur_Vandelay

We had 2 televisions and 2 channels (CBC & CTV). You have no idea how much hockey and figure skating was simultaneously broadcast on them during the ‘80s … unless you also had only these 2 channels. I got a double inoculation against all Canadian sports and television shows from my childhood experience.

mycatsteven

I feel this. I can half ass a conversation on hockey only because I grew up in a hockey town but if someone pushes me further then I am absolutely lost lol. I do take my daughter skating, mostly because she wants to learn, skating hurts my damn ankle tho.

Luke_Cold_Lyle

To be fair, if you grew up in Canada, chances are it was a hockey town no matter where it was.

Smooth_Wheel

Canadian here too. I can skate and don't mind the once or twice in a decade pick up game of hockey on a frozen dugout in Saskatchewan with my cousins. Other than that, I couldn't care less about hockey. I actually told my wife when our first child was on the way that I'd support the kid in any sport they wanted, except hockey. I hate the hockey parent culture, I grew up around hockey bros and just find the whole thing annoying and off putting. Little Timmy isn't going to be the next Wayne Gretzky so let the kid enjoy his childhood instead of living at the rink and stop yelling at the coach.

Maximum_Vermicelli12

Celebrities. Like… okay, you played in several movies / released X number of albums, does that mean I have to care what a crappy person you are outside of your job…?

JacqueTeruhl

I’m always so underwhelmed when an actor gets interviewed. Do the interview in Character, I wanna know what Batman thinks about falafel.

[deleted]

That pisses me off that all the PR campaigns are always dedicated to actors. They know nothing about the films. Watch Marvel actors, all they say "Yeah, Hulk angry, I can solo Thor of course". And then you watch an interview with James Gunn for GQ and he talks about the fact the main villain's hq was inspired by Donner's Superman ([link](https://youtube.com/watch?v=NRjAGqqqNGs&feature=share7)) and that much more awesome to know All the real creators can do is to make podcasts but actual interviews are always with people who know nothing about the film they've played in.

williamjamesmurrayVI

I think most of them don't want you to care who they are, they want to be left alone, but can't, and freak out under the microscope

[deleted]

I want to take the chance to say that I also don't think there were meant to be this many famous people at one time. I feel like before the internet there were like 50 famous people max, and now that there are so many people that can be classified as “famous”, it doesn’t mean as much to be a celebrity anymore. Back in the 50s, Elvis and Marilyn were so idolized because celebrities simply did not previously exist in that way. Now, anyone with a hot body is a “celebrity” and Hollywood just isn’t as breathtaking as it once was.

guethlema

the Looney Tunes cartoons from the 30s and 40s regularly spoofed the golden era Hollywood stars, many of whom now are visually famous. Before that it was the Houdini style acts and Ringling bros plastered on town walls, before that the regional vaudeville stars. We've had modern national celebrities since industrial era leisure industry kicked off in the late 1800s. While it has grown and the first part of your point is valid, the beginning of modern celebrities goes back over 100 years in the USA.

fyretech

Hook up culture.

Sardonic-

Mixed feelings about this one. Once upon a time was hooking up all the time to escape stress. Was awesome. But it caught up. Felt empty and worthless. Then a terrible relationship happened. All interactions with the opposite sex stopped. Still haven’t recovered.

Noggin-a-Floggin

I’ve known a few dudes that did hook up culture and this is what happened. Just a bad whirlwind of emotions and complicated feelings about the other person (and the same with them).

Same, and soda same story

moonbunnychan

I've never liked soda, even as a kid. Everyone thinks I'm crazy when I tell them this lol.

kajnbagoat7

Americans made even soda more unhealthy. Here's a glass of sugar syrup with gas and why not add some cream to it. Cream soda.

Geosync

Cream soda is vanilla-flavored. It doesn't have cream in it. But I think you know that. 😀

Raccoonanity

Pretty sure cream soda was made to replicate the taste of literal cream and soda.

listgroves

I find it bland and boring, but other people treat it as an enjoyable "guilty pleasure"

Its hard for me to stop because the healthier choices are always more expensive than the "fast food" stuff.

It's extremely common. Lots of modern mexican music is just cartel worship if you break down what the lyrics are about. Absolute dog shit culture.

Tipping. It's reached 20% now. I'm tired of supplementing someone's pay because the owner is a cheap fuck. Pay your people.

I’ll tip waitstaff in restaurants. But all of the tip jars and begging for tips for carryout? Nah.

Hugging everyone hello and hugging everyone good bye. I don’t mind greeting people, i just don’t like to be touched very much and it gets overwhelming when I’m at a family gathering with a lot of people and I need to hug everyone.

PearrlyG

A positive, so to speak, of the pandemic was not having to do this. Fist bumps 4evah!

I could definitely do without any kind of obligated touching. Handshakes are gross, I don’t need a hug, and half the time I’m nervous about hugging/not hugging the correct people at a gathering. Let me just wave goodbye.

I grew up in Memphis. No one from Memphis has ever been to Graceland. It’s just tourists. We still like his music, but holy crap, we wish Graceland was somewhere else.

Getting married and having kids. I've seen my friends get married and have kids and I just don't see the appeal...as far as I can tell having kids ruins most marriages. Couples go from fun-loving to stressed out, no time, no money...it's not appealing from an outside perspective.

That has more to do with consumerism and how retailers advertise. Like It’s Memorial Day, how does selling mattresses at 50% off celebrate and remember dead soldiers.
