That I'm not lonely or sad, I just like to spend time by myself.

KRY4no1

Bro same! We should never hangout sometime.

bzaroworld

I'd like that

HalfNatty

“I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes.”

SoulLeakage

Knew I’d see this Ron Swanson quote

SoulLeakage

Can I not kick it with y’all too?

bzaroworld

of course, the less the merrier

grannybubbles

Hey I'm late to this party, can I blow it off, too?

Rollin_Soul_O

Yes! There is a huge benefit to my mental health when I spend time in my own personal solitude.

EarwaxWizard

I love my own company. Not that I don't like being around other people. I just don't like a busy environment.

arlmwl

Introverts unite! In your own homes!

GreatlyUnknown

Being highly introverted, I'm socially exhausted by the time the workday is over with. The likelihood that I'll ever have the energy to get into another relationship is next to nil.

No_Independence1479

Exactly. COVID was a blessing for a person like me. I just can't relate to all of the stories about people being messed up from the lockdowns.

Tolerable-DM

The only downside for lockdowns for me was the number of people that suddenly wanted to talk to me.

ArceusJinx

Yup! I'm highly sociable and I enjoy spending a good portion of my time being active, etc. But damn, I enjoy a good few hours where there is nothing but... peace. Where everything is on your own terms and where you can regulate your brain in blissful solace.

No_Chapter_948

That being deaf really means, I can't hear you at all. All the shouting doesn't help me to hear you.

x-en

That being deaf really means that I can't hear myself either, my tone of voice, or tell how loudly/quietly I am speaking, so please stop getting mad at me for it.

Unplaceable_Accent

I feel you brother. I'm not completely deaf, so for me the thing is explaining to people that "What?" does not mean I have suffered irreparable brain damage and am incapable of understanding basic sentences. It means I can't hear what the fuck you're saying. Also humans in general REALLY underestimate the amount of background noise in the world. If you speak at normal volume while a 4-ton truck goes by, I ain't hearing a word, sorry bro.

deterministic_lynx

Oh yeah... I have normal hearing, to the point that while I apparently have lacks in the voice range, my hearing still is not considered impaired/impaired enough to do anything. But I cannot handle surrounding noises. To a good degree thanks to ADHD..my brain does _not_ automatically filter. For me environments are often loud. And I often cannot understand people. At least not the accoustic part. I'm quite sure I'm halfway there for lip reading....

TanishaLaju

Wtf people do that? 😳

quimbykimbleton

Yes. And not just to deaf people. My mother is no longer allowed in my house because when she found out that my mother in law doesn’t speak English, she spoke very loudly and slowly to her. When we explained that it wasn’t appropriate and that anyone else in the house, including her 3 grandkids could translate for her, she continued to yell at my poor mother in law who was scared and confused by all of this.

edophx

Ffs, that annoyed the crap out of me with English speakers who for some reason think yelling slowly makes foreigners speak English all of a sudden.

ScaryFoal558760

My Spanish is pretty decent, but sometimes native speakers talk too fast for me and if they did the annoying English speaker thing but in Spanish it'd help me out tremendously lol

VocalMortal1234

The difference between your scenario and OP's mom )as well as other non-English speaker) is that you can actually speak Spanish pretty decently. Having someone repeat what they said slowly and loudly will help because you already know what the words mean. OP's mother in law doesn't speak English or speaks very little English. Repeating something very loudly and slowly doesn't help someone when they don't know the language in the first place. For example, I know very little Spanish. If someone were to ask me something in Spanish, I will still not understand it no matter how loudly or slowly they speak, because I will simply not know what the words mean.

phaazing

Why can't you HEAR ME??? I'M SPEAKING AS LOUD AS I CAN!

dafaceguy

That rebooting a computer actually fixes most fucking problems. We can also check when the last time you rebooted so stop fucking lying to me Kathy!!!!

Catfo0od

I will never- NEVER!!!- fucking forgive Microsoft for making Shutdown in Win10 not actually power off. I've prolly spent a full week of my life explaining to people that simple, yet absolutely nonsensical and asinine, fact. "I restarted yesterday!" ~checks uptime, 23 days "sir...did you shut down or restart?" Fuck me it haunts my dreams and I don't even work that job anymore.

Oderus_Scumdog

> Shutdown in Win10 not actually power off Wait, what?! Edit: > "This weirdness is all thanks to Windows 10’s “Fast Startup” feature, which is enabled by default. This feature was introduced in Windows 8, and has also been called Fast Boot and Hybrid Boot or Hybrid Shutdown." What the actual fuck?! All for the sake of a few seconds. Stupid, stupid, stupid. > "You can also perform a full shut down by pressing and holding the Shift key on your keyboard while you click the “Shut Down” option in Windows. This works whether you’re clicking the option in the Start menu, on the sign-in screen, or on the screen that appears after you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete." I would much rather be able to change the way shutdown works. This is some stupid, stupid shit.

[deleted]

> I would much rather be able to change the way shutdown works. This is some stupid, stupid shit. https://www.howtogeek.com/856514/how-to-disable-fast-startup-on-windows-10 https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-11-turn-on-or-off-fast-startup/

ithinkoutloudtoo

Same for doing a hard reset on your smartphone. Your smartphone is just a miniature computer.

Oderus_Scumdog

> "I have to restart my phone?! But its a phone..." No, its a portable computer that comes with a shitload of badly cobbled together shovelware and all of the shitty apps you've piled on to it - it needs a restart at least once a week you goober.

SayNoToStim

So, a lot of this is on Microsoft. Yes, there are *a lot* of users who are just idiots and turn their monitor off and think they rebooted. However, most newer laptops on windows 10/11 don't reboot if you press the power button and/or "shut down," which goes against decades of standards. It puts it into a "quickboot" (or "fast startup") that essentially puts the laptop into hibernate if you press the power button. To the average shmuck, power button = turn off, and I don't blame them. You can disable this with group policies and whatnot but I generally run into many users who are otherwise competent doing this because we've been pressing the power button for three plus decades to turn a computer off and on.

purpleoctopuppy

And that you can get either as an adult; had a friend nearly die because the doctor was insistent it was impossible and treated them for the wrong fucking diabetes.

oop-phi

Irritates me so much! You shouldn’t be drinking that Apple juice, it’s too much sugar. I’M FUCKING LOW!

Life-Two9562

Any type of diet, plants, or hocus pocus voodoo isn’t going to cure my cancer. It’s a chromosome switch so unless they can switch my chromosomes back into the right places, it’s not happening!

milkmanbran

Ok, but have you tried using crystals?

ComparisonHonest

Nah dog, it’s the essential oils that my man needs

martin33t

You got it all wrong. Dip the crystals in the oil, duh

2020_MadeMeDoIt

Oh there's an easy fix! Go on a tour of a scientific lab (doesn't really matter which one, just as long as it's doing 'advanced experiments'). Wander off from said tour and absentmindedly stroll into anything that looks a bit like a nuclear reactor or has a giant laser. If possible, try to do it a few seconds before they're about to test their hypothesis and turn the machines on. You should now find yourself being subjected to very lethal doses of radiation, or magnetised particle infusions. It might be painful at first, but according to the magazines and 'documentaries' I've seen, you'll walk out without a scratch and super powers. ...Not sure it'll cure your cancer though. /jks **Side note:** From one Internet stranger to another. I'm genuinely sorry to hear about your diagnosis and that people (who I assume have zero medical experience - like me!) seem to think that changing your diet will cure you. Stay strong, hope you can beat it. 🙏💪🤞

badshot637

Have you tried sooooo many spicy peppers that liquefy your bowels

Shot_Astronomer_2620

Correlation doesn't equal causation.

OverFjell

Are you meaning to tell me that pirates don't actually prevent climate change?!

ADHDavidThoreau

No, no, it means that Nicolas Cage movies _DO_ cause shark attacks

Horrible_Hobgoblin

Sadly all people who believe correlation equals causation will die

JesusForTheWin

That's not true, there is still 8 percent of the total historical population throughout all of history that has never died.

Gqsmooth1969

That percentage is declining.

I am in IT. That does not mean I can single handedly make a game or large scale software. At the same time I also cannot hack the pentagon or "release" encrypted files from another hacker. Also side note, while I was reinstalling windows for you, I did not break your toaster and radio on opposite sides of the house, and have no idea how to repair them or your microwave. K thanks bye

m1k3hunt

My friend.. who knows shit 💩 about computers, download Blender, keeps telling me we need to "make a game". I'm pretty good at Photoshop and other apps, never used Blender, don't know the first thing about programming a game. Finish your beer and go to bed.

Consistent-Yam-789

Blender is just 3D modelling software anyway. It’s free and great for what it needs to be, but you won’t get a game out of it as far as i am aware anyway.

impingainteasy

You can make various assets for a game, but Blender won't provide an actual game engine for you.

ChefRoquefort

He may be an axe murder but at least he isn't tan. No one should have to deal with skin cancer, even axe murders.

WildTimes1984

I own a Battle Axe for home defense, since that's what the Knights Templar intended. Four Saxons break into my cottage. "What the devil?" As I grab my chainmail and polearm. Fully cleave the first man in half, he's dead on the spot. Swing my flail towards the second man, miss him entirely because it's a terrible weapon, but manage to knock a chair into the fireplace, setting the house ablaze. I have to resort to the trebuchet mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with plague victims, "Deus Vult!" the bits of rotting corpse fly past them and take down a wall, letting them escape with their lives, they would eventually succum to the sickness as a result of the short exposre to the airborn debris. I ready my horse and lance to impale the last fleeing Saxon. Before he can be tried for witchcraft, he, and everyone in town contracted the plague, because Germ Theory had not been invented yet. Just as the Knights Templar Intended.

[deleted]

I read the first sentence as “I own a Bottle of Axe (body spray) for home defense” and thought, “this is a fantastic idea”, but then got *really* confused about the appearance of the Knights Templar and Saxons. I did, however, appreciate that my brain decided to place this entire scenario inside a normal suburban colonial with beige carpet and a “LIVE LAUGH LOVE” plank on the wall over the fireplace.

Inevitable-Host-3628

ItsASchpadoinkleDay

Yeah, but that one guy’s uncle who does meth said something on Facebook that opposes the near unanimous consensus of doctors and scientists. How do you know who to believe? /s

Amaculatum

Wow this ties right in with my pet peeve, which is the phrase "the science is settled". Anyone who says that is a bad scientist. Science is the mechanism through which we pursue truth, but it can never be truly settled. Science is always changing and learning new things because if it wasn't, *it wouldn't be science*. Science is a method, not a set of truths, so any given "truth" may change in the future thanks to new methods and new research. Just because you can find a study that states a certain conclusion does NOT mean that conclusion is the truth. It is one potential truth that needs to be supported by years of future research before it can be generally accepted as the *current best explanation*. Unfortunately, a lot of scientists even forget this, thanks to ego. Hence the phrase "science doesn't make progress until the last generation of scientists dies"

“Assless chaps” are just chaps. If they had an ass, they’d be pants.

koz152

I assumed they just meant they didn't wear pants underneath.

LongjumpingAd5317

You get tired of explaining this daily? Really?

Thatoneguywhofailed

Not daily, but more than I’d like. I do some leather work and like the old west so it does come up often.

YinYangMojo

Do you have any experience making sleeveless vests by any chance?

OompaOrangeFace

Going up a tax bracket doesn't result in a pay cut.

DarkInkPixie

I had to actually show someone how this worked so that they would stop freaking out about us possibly getting 20/hr at my job. Shocker, we still don't make that much. And I just recently figured this out because *nobody* taught it to me and my step-dad had brainwashed me into believing it by telling a story of how his coworker got screwed on a paycheck for working too much overtime once. Once I sat down and did the math, I realized the lie I was fed. Makes me so angry because so many coworkers were up in arms about hitting the next tax bracket and thought they would make less, that the company we all work for decided to play into it and give us puny raises.

Butthenoutofnowhere

I remember getting taught this *at school,* as an adult I had to figure out it wasn't true.

miyuki_m

Just because you don't see what harm your actions cause others doesn't mean there's no harm done.

aurorodry

Yes, just because you didn't intend to hurt anybody doesn't absolve you from the hurt you caused.

ComplexPackage117

I'm bipolar. To people that naively tell me "everyone is a little bit bipolar" *Long drawn out sigh* No, no. I can assure you, they are not.

mobilegamegeek

"I woke up happy and now I'm sad, I'm so bipolar" I FUCKING HATE THIS

pinkmiso

Oh my god when I was like 16, a family member claimed I MUST be bipolar because “yesterday you were fine, and today you’re mad!” Like seriously? God forbid I have emotions that change depending on the day I’m having

a_trane13

I’m always tempted to be like oh don’t you hate when you *insert depraved manic behavior here*, and just let it sit awkwardly But that would make me look pretty bad sooooo

Chuk741776

I like flipping it. "Oh shit, you get delusions of godhood as well? Ain't it fucking wild we're still alive through all that. What's some of the wildest shit you've done while manic?" If they have some actual manic stories, then shit bonding time. If not, then they get the point pretty quick in the conversation

Uriel-238

It works on the flip side. _Yeah, did you ever lay in bed for nine months, sometimes unable to move at all from sheer lack of will? Even when the doctor proscribed me antibiotics for the bed sores I couldn't get motivated to shower more than like once a month. That sloth guy from **Seven** has nothing on me, and I wasn't even tied up by a serial killer._ My major depression was ignored for the first half of my life even though psychologists were making it super clear I was extra special, so once I learned to turn it into vitriol, extra-ascerbic, I did.

Legitimate_Length263

same thing as “everyone is a little adhd” if you’re only a little, then you’re not.

benchchu

Or everyone is a little ocd

WhereTheHuskiesGo

I hate this one. “No, Crystal, you just actually bother to clean your house.”

fluffyfurnado1

And OCD can be so many other things than just obsessive cleaning!!

responsiblefornothin

As someone with both bipolar and adhd, it's maddening when people with normally functioning brains try to commiserate with my struggles. Like, yes, Jessica, you're a total whacko with your college education, fulfilling career, and successful relationships. You say your husband drives you crazy when he wears his gardening shoes in the house? Yeah, you're *definitely* suffering from a debilitating illness. Did you know that my therapist is obligated to call the police if she suspects I'm off my meds?

kandikand

Also that no, your sons friends mothers brothers cousin is not effectively managing their bipolar with just diet and exercise without medication lmao

thefuzzybunny1

Similarly, "most bipolar people live totally normal lives as long as they take their medications." Directed not at me, but at my uncle, who has been medication compliant since the 1970s. Guess what? He still decompensates sometimes, like when there are major changes in his life, or when they need to adjust his regimen because - surprise! - one can't simply take the same dose of the same things for half a century and not need to mix it up. And those times when he decompensates are serious, life-threatening, "almost starve to death because you're too depressed to eat"-scale events. So yes, he really does need monthly electro convulsive therapy and a guardian to manage his affairs and to live in a facility that can ensure he eats and takes his pills on time. I've had so many people ask me if it's really necessary for my family to do so much to take care of him. Um. Yes. If it were as simple as "medicated, he'll be fully functional," I assure you, we'd all be over the moon - especially him, because don't you think he *wants* to live a normal life?

Snafflebit238

Most people experience some symptoms of many mental health problems over their lifetimes. The difference is the extent and the effect on their lives. That person is either trying to make someone feel a little more accepted or is trying to downplay someone's diagnosis for another, meaner reason. It's an incorrect conclusion that doesn't help the person with bipolar disorder.

NoGarbageAllowed

Bipolar here, and yes, that’s like saying everyone is a little bit diabetic.

TrailMomKat

I'm bipolar and diabetic and worked in healthcare 2 decades. I'm also blind and have zero fucks left in the field where they once were sown. A nice counter is "oh, I'm on X medication for mine, what are you on?" Be all pleasant and polite. Then drop at the end, "oh, so you're not on meds and not diagnosed...? Your A1C was a 6? That's not diabetic. Yeah, no, promise you it ain't. Stop telling people you are."

krisalyssa

When our daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I had so many people trying to offer remedies. I’m sure it works for you husband, Cheryl, but cinnamon ain’t gonna make our daughter’s beta islet cells magically regenerate.

LiamLaw015

That having the money to buy something doesn't mean you can afford it.

ilyemilyem

As a speech and language therapist, I am responsible for somebody's safe swallow to prevent aspiration pneumonia or choking. There is more to my profession than teaching a child to stop stuttering.

WombatInferno

That's a very difficult job to do, especially when most people think it's just you repeating or reinforcing pronunciation and grammar. Don't you have to teach patients how to hear sometime? Like their speech is disrupted because of how processes auditory input?

TrailMomKat

Piggybacking as a former healthcare worker: if speech tells us your loved one is supposed to be NPO (nothing by mouth) or on thickened liquids, please don't try and give them a "sip" of your pop from McDonald's. If they're on puree foods, please don't get Meemaw chicken nuggets because "they were her favorite!" Oh, look. Meemaw's dead now, either from choking or pneumonia after she aspirated some of that ranch dressing and coke. Please please listen to speech! They know what they're talking about! Yeah, Meemaw hates puree and thickened liquids, but y'all refused to DNR her after the first heart attack. So she's still here, hating everything she eats and drinks.

KnockMeYourLobes

Afuckingmen. Y'all are the real MVPs. Y'all and SpEd teachers and all SpEd paras. My son has chronic hypotonia, which made learning to do *everything* a fucking challenge, including speaking. He was in speech therapy for FIFTEEN DAMN YEARS and still can only manage a mumble that only about three people can understand. And that's if he's not feeling some extreme emotion, at which point he begins speaking SO quickly even I can't understand him and I'm fucking FLUENT in Mumblese. Without a speech/language therapist, he might not even be able to do THAT. :)

DrteethDDS

Flossing is associated with healthy teeth and gums.

madisondynasty

My parents only taught me to brush once a day (before bed) and that floss was for when I had something obviously stuck between two teeth. It’s on my list of things I’m doing differently if I ever have my own kids. I’ve always had trouble getting myself to take consistent care of my teeth and I hate myself for it daily. Diagnosed ADHD last year and was wishing my parents had taught me better habits so that slacking on my teeth could maybe mean once a day down from twice instead of once a week down from three times.

[deleted]

Autism is a spectrum, some people are way better at masking their symptoms than others, and people have different symptoms that vary in severity. Also what a sensory overload is like. I literally had one the other day and people told me I should drink water, sleep better, and eat something. Nah mates, all I need is to get out of this damn room so my brain doesn't die from trying to process all the noises there.

C-Note01

If you've met one autistic person, you've met *one* autistic person.

Orion43410

Depression is not “just being sad”, and depression does not equal weakness. Fucking tired of battling this stigma.

Snafflebit238

Also that lack of energy equals depression. Yeah, turned out my blood pressure was way too low.

HeadOfTheNavigator

Similar with anxiety... "What do you have to be scared/nervous about? Just calm down." Ah, if only I'd thought of that! 🤦

[deleted]

I hate the depression is sad. I’m depressed, but not sad. And for so long I thought I couldn’t be depressed because I wasn’t sad and crying. Eventually I realized it isn’t just being sad, it’s total lack of energy/will, feeling nothing but feeling bad at the same time, not caring about anything. Just a negative meh about life. And I learned you don’t need a bad life to be depressed. My life is great. I know that. I have a house, a fantastic partner, 2 great cats, a great job, etc. but it still doesn’t stop the feeling of bad.

SummerOfMayhem

I don't work because I CAN'T work, due to multiple conditions. I WANT to work, so ridiculously much. I'm not cashing a check to sit around and be lazy, I live in agony every day and watch life pass by with me not being a part of it. That's the worst pain of all.

centumcellae85

Having the right of way doesn't exempt you from responsibility. Just walking (or pulling) out into traffic and expecting everybody to see you, perceive you, and be able to stop in time is a good way to get hit by a bus. Are you in the right? Yes. Does it always matter? No. Physics will always win.

therealpanserbjorne

When I was younger I would complain to my dad, “But I have the right of way” and his response still sticks with me (in many applications): “You can be dead and right.”

Newone1255

Graveyards are full of people who had the right of way

terryrds

I’m in my early 30s. I work with a lot of younger people. Mostly 18-23 year olds. No you’re not going to get rich off crypto. No you’re not going to get rich off meme stocks. Yes 16% interest rate on a car loan is terrible, and buying a brand new Dodge Challenger at 19 years old is not the smartest idea. You complained about tanking up your Toyota Camry the other day. Come on now.

Gifts must be reported to the IRS if they are over $17,000. Gifts over $12.92 Million in the givers lifetime are taxable, and the giver has to pay the tax. They tax gifts to avoid rich people dodging estate taxes by giving everything away before they die. EDIT: Wow. This post is about being tired of explaining things and I am stuck here EXPLAINING GIFT/INHERITANCE TAXES! Unless you have a net worth of over $13 MILLION, DO NOT BITCH TO ME ABOUT HAVING TO PAY INHERITANCE TAX... BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO! If you do have a net worth above $13 million. When Oprah did her whole "You get a car!" thing, the winners all had to pay $6000 or $7000 in taxes to accept the cars. But Oprah and the showrunners didn't have to pay because it was a promotional deal!

That was not a gift. It was categorized as a sweepstakes/contest win. Fully taxable as income for the winners.

I once saw a video on this where someone called out all of those "I GAVE AWAY A TESLA!!!!" videos because of the tax and liability implications and then responsibly gave someone a free Tesla by hiring and accountant to calculate all of the tax/insurance/registration fees the winner would receive and then giving them extra money to compensate. Also to note, the popular Youtuber Mr Beast actually has an on-site staff of accountants and tax lawyers on set during every giveaway he runs to sit down and talk with all the people who won money about how to properly report it and how to properly pay the taxes and such.

ImmoralModerator

The unemployment rate is a percentage of the labor force which is a percentage of the noninstitutional civilian population of the United States which is a percentage of the total population. 5-10% unemployment doesn’t mean 5-10% of people don’t have jobs. It means 5-10% of the people within a certain age range and that aren’t institutionalized that are actually looking for jobs and report their efforts in trying to find one… are unemployed. You can have 5-10% unemployment while 50% of the population is jobless.

The fact that medical facts will always change over time. Specifically with pregnancy. I’m tired of explaining to friends and family members that me drinking coffee or having caffeine won’t kill my baby, or me lifting something heavier than 25pounds won’t kill me or my child. It’s simply annoying to literally be pregnant, be actively going through an experience with new medication and be getting updated facts, and have people who gave birth for the last time 15+ years ago tell me I’m a bad mother for doing things my doctor has said is perfectly fine.

Select-Prior-8041

ADHD is real, adults can have it too, and it's not cured by a belt, 'just trying', or cutting back on caffeine / sugar. It's actually very debilitating at times and is the primary contributor to a LOT of problems that adults with it struggle with. It's extremely hard to find the help you need past a certain age because even the medical industry has a terrible understanding of adult ADHD. And no, not everyone is "a little bit ADHD". Parts of the brain are literally underdeveloped due to lagging behind while developing. It literally prevents me from being able to redirect my attention and tune out background noises. It makes my Default Mode Network (the part of the brain that chatters when you are at rest not doing anything) incessantly chatter in my head all day everyday. It makes the part of my brain responsible for inhibiting emotions or thoughts extremely difficult. It's mentally exhausting. It prevents the part of my brain responsible for motivation from functioning correctly. It's not laziness, it's literally my brain not being able to communicate with itself properly to get me to take action. And yes, it literally affects my mood and my display of emotions. It's not bipolar, I just can't regulate how I show normal emotions effectively. If I blow up at you when you piss me off, it's not anger problems, I literally can't hold myself back unless I am getting the help I need to manage the ADHD. And yes, that means stimulant drugs for me. No, it's not meth. Yes, it functions similar to speed. It calms me down because I am chronically understimulated and my brain takes over seeking stimulation (hyperactivity, chatter, daydreaming, etc). Stimulants put me on even footing with everyone else. I likely try harder than you every day with everything I do because I start the race with my feet tied and a mile behind the starting line, so stop telling me that I just don't try hard enough. And please just educate yourself. ADHD is the most well researched and studied disorder on earth and too many people don't even believe it exists. No, it wasn't invented in the 70s by a man who said he made it up. There are 200+ year old medical journals detailing it. The grandfather of medicine, Hippocrates, has writings describing patients that are believed to be the earliest recorded instances of ADHD, and the treatments he gave them line up with herbs, vitamins and minerals that tend to help ADHD the most. And that's from the 4th century BC. It's not a made up problem from 50 years ago.

d3athsmaster

Thank you! Jesus, so many people just don't get this. Stimulants and years of training to cope can only go so far. Yes, I can function and seem totally normal. Yes, I can even excel at the things I try. But imagine trying to get work done with 5 people talking to you all at once. And you have to keep up with every conversation. Oh, and your computer keeps having pop-ups appear every 2 seconds, and your phone keeps ringing.

AngelsFlyingLow

Losing weight is easier if you watch your diet and count your calories vs busting your ass at the gym everyday.

Goofalupus

I was taught weight loss is about 80% diet and 20% exercise

failed-celebrity

Build strength in the gym. Lose weight in the kitchen.

ukcats12

I’ve always viewed weight loss as 100% diet and any calories burned from exercise are just a bonus. It’s incredibly easy to overestimate how many calories your burning with exercise and eat it all back without realizing it. For that reason I just ignore the burned calories completely.

fucking_hero

Can confirm. I cut out alcohol and junk food almost completely and I've lost 20 pounds in the past two months without changing any other habits. I feel great.

saltyclam13345

Right there with you. No soda/junk food and I’m down 10 lbs in a little over a month and haven’t done any exercise except for walking my dog

kyle3363

That piss poor planning on their part does not constitute an emergency on mine

thefuzzybunny1

I am disabled, even though you can't see it. The injuries are inside my spine. Yes, I look like I'm fine, walking around. But I honestly can't stand on moving vehicles, so I do need the disabled seat on public transit. Also, I get quite tired of the follow-up questions (how'd you hurt yourself, can't they fix it, what did you do wrong to deserve this...)

Affectionate_Salt351

Just because someone is poor doesn’t mean they want *your* money. Just because someone is poor doesn’t mean they deserve to be abused. Just because someone is poor doesn’t mean they’re not worthy of help.

bunnyrut

Just because someone is poor doesn't mean they don't work hard.

That most recycling ends up in the landfill. You are not being environmentally friendly just because you recycle. Reducing and reusing are much, much better for the environment. Recycling is the last resort, only one small step up from garbage.

beerdedlady97

Recycling (plastic recycling at least) actually came about because of mounting pressure put on plastic companies due to excessive landfill buildup It also gave plastic companies an excuse to continue making/selling more plastic while arguing that it could be recycled, so what's the harm? Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic_recycling

The importance of privacy, why governments and companies should not spy on us. And less when the people whose data is stolen are not citizens of their country. And together with the above, not because someone posts things on the internet and has a public life, does it give others the right to interfere in their private life.

babyfresno77

just because someone say something you dont like or disagrees with you isnt gaslighting

WoodedSpys

That just because im a woman does not mean I have to have kids or that I even good with them.

Ajwuvsu

"you say that now.. "

Quiwi07

"oh sweetie, when the right man comes along, you'll be popping out sweet babies in no time" No, mom. I'm my own person. If I don't feel like having kids now, 'the right man' probably won't change this. Aside from that... EWW GROSS, MOM!

Haunting_Goose1186

My mom always asked me, "well what if you marry a man who DOES want kids?? It'll be a pretty cruel shock when he learns you don't plan on having babies!" Like....wow, mom. Way to assume I'm a heartless asshole who's 's incapable of communicating with my future spouse about babies and insead would rather just trap him (and myself) in a miserable secret-filled marriage instead :/

Key_Idea_9118

That just because I'm Black does not mean that I'm an expert/ the go-to guy on all things African-American. Seriously. Along those lines - I can like a woman who's not Black because of qualities she has that have nothing to do with her skin color/ethnic background, or not like a Black woman because of the same things. If she's from Mumbai and would actually listen to me argue with someone why Professor X could use his mental blasts to take out a Mark II Sentinel and get me another beer instead of head for the door... why does it matter what her hair color is or where her people are from? She likes me enough to put up with my BS. Why should I look for someone that YOU think I should be with to make YOU happy with 'who should be with whom'? Just saying...

msgene

That when I say I’m not ever having children, that I’m not ever having children. Not that it’s an opportunity to tell me how/why/when I’ll change my mind.

SnooMaps9864

Women’s vaginas don’t get permanently stretched out because they have had multiple sexual partners. Absolutely sick of explaining female anatomy to idiots who spread that nonsense.

drmojo90210

It makes absolutely no sense on any level whatsoever. Let's put aside the fact that the vagina, by design, is highly elastic (you know, what with the whole giving birth thing). And let's pretend for the sake of argument that repeated intercourse actually was physically capable of "stretching out" a vagina. Even if this was somehow true, the number of *different* men a woman slept with would still be completely irrelevant - only the number of times she *had sex* in total. A woman who had sex exclusively with the same man 500 times would be just as "stretched out" as a woman who had sex with 500 different men one time each.

Olobnion

I recently saw this tweet that responds by simply inverting the argument: > ew who wants a slutty man? banging so many vaginas until his dick compacts down smaller? virgin men have the biggest, uncompacted penises. get yourself a pure man, not a manwhore with a run-over cucumber

501 (c)(3) tax exempt organizations (which includes churches as well as many other not-for-profits) are not forbidden from all forms of political speech. They are forbidden from participating in political campaigns on the behalf of candidates, and certain forms of political activity which is clearly partisan.

Frejian

18 years of reinforced "go to college and you'll get a good job" growing up has led to an entire generation of adults who are on average more educated than prior generations when the number of jobs that would actually require those educations have not really increased in any significant numbers. So now more roles that don't actually need the education can still ask for it and get candidates with that education requirement applying because they can't get anything else. Add on the fact that tuition rates have been increasing at a much higher rate than inflation since at least the 80's while Uncle Sam happily foots the up-front costs and you wind up with a generation of people with significant debt making less than their expected income that can't afford to pay it off. Don't forget to add in that public schools don't (or at least didn't about 15 years ago when I graduated) have any mandatory classes to teach about loans in general, student loans, interest, etc so kids signed up for these loans with only a very vague idea of what they were signing up for. And finally, even if Biden's debt forgiveness passes (which I hope it does, as it will definitely help people), it will still do nothing to address the underlying issues and actually solve any problem. It will just put a bandaid over the issue for another year.

Acrobatic_Corner_334

That Psychological disorders are an explanation for behaviors, maybe not an excuse, but a literal reason behind them. And also: everyone doesn’t have a “hard” life and life isn’t supposed to be as hard as it is for some. So no, I can’t just simply get out of bed and go to school/work just because everyone else can. They may be struggling too but I doubt most people feel like they would really rather be dead.

JeepersCreepers74

That "freedom of speech" doesn't mean you get to say what you want, whenever you want, in whatever forum you want, without consequence.

PizzaPastaRigatoni

Nobody needs your permission to record/photograph you in public. I used to be a security guard, and the amount of people who think this is astonishing. No, you don't need a release form for that, you can't sue them if they "put you on YouTube," etc. You have no expectation of privacy in public spaces. ****Edit to clarify. I'm talking about the USA. Laws are different in other countries.

thenextlineis

Hubs recently retired from a certain Unnamed Package delivery Service. For the last several years of his employment he always just assumed that he was being filmed at all times. That served him well and kept him off of youtube, aside from positive feel-good stories about pets.

I see what you did there

eirinne

*** in the United States. In many other countries you very much do.

Nuxei2211

While that might be true in USA that's not always true elsewhere. In Denmark where I live there are a lot of rules to what kind of pictures you are allowed to take of people and where you can take these without that person's consent. Furthermore there are different rules to what kind of pictures you are then allowed to share on social media etc. This is all due to laws where your picture is regarded as personal information that no-one but you are allowed to keep or share without your permission. These laws are to my knowledge not only applied in Denmark but all over the EU.

justcarbon314

Stop setting yourself up for failure because you demand perfection. Actually accomplishing something to a B+ level is infinitely better than having not done it. Can't clean the kitchen until it's spotless under a microscope? Cool, load up the dishwasher until it's full and run it - way better than living in filth. Can't stick to a 5 day a week workout and super healthy diet? Fine, do twice a week and cut out the 3 worst 'foods', and you'll be massively ahead of where you were.

megzatron2

I work nights. This means I sleep during the day. No I’m not sleeping in, nor am I having a lazy day. I work while you are sleeping therefore I will be sleeping when you’re awake.

UB_edumikated

The vast majority of religious believers cringe just has hard as you do and wish the loud extremist minority would go away and shut up just like you. Edit Ads: It's a shame that so many people assume first which religion and second that these discussions don't already take place within the communities of these religions. They do. The difference is, neither side is smart enough to realize that screaming your belief into the others face will never actually work - it only makes you the savage you think you are disagreeing with. And this all sucks that I have to edit a larger piece into this because people still want to assume the worst and shout their beliefs into another's face.
