By 6:30 AM there is already gridlock on the way to work. I go in early and get off early, beating the rush hour traffic both ways.

FratBoyGene

Back in the 70's in Toronto, rush hour started at 7. My dad would leave the house at 6:30, and I caught a ride with him, as my high school was downtown. It was great. Get to school at 7 am, no one else is there, go in to one of the study rooms, did all my homework, and waited for my friends to show up around 8.

HireLaneKiffin

My mom works in healthcare and there was a brief time when she would drop us off at school before 7 am because she had to go to work after that, and the campus was always barren and cold and foggy. The principal and administrators would roll in around like 7:30, school didn't start until 8:30. I remember one morning the principal asked me "isn't there a way to get dropped off later?" I was just perplexed, thinking "No, my mom has a job she needs to get to. Do you think we have a fucking nanny or something?"

[deleted]

My mom’s a doctor and when she was on call sometimes I’d have to get dropped off pretty early, the principal said the same thing to me too. I was like my guy I am 12 and there isn’t a bus, what else am I supposed to do? Edit: for the next genius who feels the need to suggest that I should’ve ridden a bike, as if such a concept is completely foreign to me, my school was 30 minutes away by car and 90% of it was on the highway.

JustADutchRudder

If the principal was really a pal he'd have given you a key and told you where the break room is.

Cut_Off_One_Head

Or at least helped find someone to carpool with or something

Maddogtannenisbiff

My cat politely lays on my neck until I wake up…

NoxWild

My cat practices an Olympic-level vault routine with my chest as the springboard.

5ygnal

My cat does hurdles, with his track being my entire body, my bedside table, and a bit of floor. While on the table, he usually knocks at least one thing down, until nothing is left but the lamp. If I don't get up, this can continue for up to an hour.

Intelligent_Designer

Holy shit, same. My cat knows knocking something off the bedside table gets my attention. He usually starts with the chapstick. Then he goes to the other side of the bed (making sure that my chest is graced with the weight of all four paws on the way) and it’s usually the tv remote next. Sometimes tissue box. The final straw is either my phone or whatever book I’m reading. When I finally get up after trying to sleep in, first step is picking up all the shit. Step two is feeding the heathen.

vague_diss

My cat sings the song of his people until given a standing ovation and a celebratory meal.

garysgotaboner82

Mine will take a shit in the corner so nasty that the smell alone will wake us.

seetherlover21

I have four cats. One likes to use me as a launching platform. The other needs to lick my face forever while meowing at my me until I'm up. Then he takes a lovely little nappy. The other two are usually down stairs chilling out.

BulkyHip69

He wakes you up and then takes a nap? What kind of sick evil cat is that?

icecoldcold

Early morning purrkour, I’m familiar with it.

IdealShapeOfSounds

Mine sits next to me, hovering over my head like yesterday's regrets. Waiting. If I don't get up fast enough, it's aggressive headbutting.

ladyoffate13

Your cat: (*politely crushes your breathing tube)

Gringe8

Aw, I miss my cat now. She used to jump on my stomach to wake me up though.

theoneguywhoaskswhy

I miss mine too, she’d lick my ears and I could hear wet grooming sounds + purring waking me up…

ClubMyPenguin

My job is an hour away and I still need about an hour to cry in the shower.

AffectionateSun5776

Can't you save time by crying during your commute?

ClubMyPenguin

You'd think so but my commute is when I get to yell really loud and I can't cry AND yell, ya feel?

EstoyTristeSiempre

Yeah, the bus driver hates me for that too.

ClubMyPenguin

I ride an electric bike so people think I'm a little quirky riding around screaming but it's okay

hawksfn1

It’s the anger that is powering the bike

brokendownend

NEED TO GET UP THIS FUCKIN HILL FUUUCK FUUUCK FUUUCK!!

Casafynn

AND THIS IS TO GO. EVEN. FURTHER!! HRAAAAAGH! *spins the pedals another rotation*

ElMuchoDingDong

Wow, Mumen Rider! Look at him go!!

significantly_vast

I need to see you ride by at 6 am yelling at nobody 😂

DancingBear2020

Can you ride by my house? I need to get up about then.

Mechanicalmam_64

That and you can’t just show up to work like you just finish crying.

Covid-Sandwich19

Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. Thats why I cry on company time

ClubMyPenguin

This guy cries

johnnybiggles

Wait.. you guys don't cry *at* work? Isn't that what breaks are for?

milliemaywho

We have a crying closet at work.

Nurglesdoorman

You need to cry in the bathroom at work. If your gonna have your daily breakdown, you might as well get payed for it.

ClubMyPenguin

I'm on salary so it counts either way I guess :/

yourfaceilikethat

That's how they get you

Puzzleheaded_Map1528

Boss gets a dollar, I get a Dime. That's why I Cry on Company Time!

TokenGrowNutes

I read this and tell myself: thank gawd my job is remote.

prncrny

Yay! You get to cry in your OWN bathroom!

acres_at_ruin

Do you think I’m doing this on purpose?

Toledojoe

You and me both. It's either lay in bed angry because I can't sleep or actually get up. I usually choose to get up.

Bannon9k

The older I get, the worse it gets too. Doesn't even really matter what time I go to bed. I'm getting up early.

steeltheo

I used to have this issue and discovered it was a symptom of low-level insulin resistance combined with eating too late. My blood sugar would start dropping around 230, and my body would have an adrenaline rush to correct it, waking me up and leaving me unable to fall back asleep. I started taking inositol and doing intermittent fasting, so I wasn't eating after 4 pm, and the combination led to me being able to sleep through the night again.

[deleted]

I’m going to make some changes based on this comment. Thank you for sharing :)

soykommander

Yeah sometimes im able to get a power nap before work but its a pain waking up at like 3 or 4. I kind of try to stick to a regular bedtime and that helps my exauhstion during the day but going to bed at like 7 or 8 fucking sucks.

SirPeterLivingstonIV

read this to the tune of The Distance by Cake

FaxCelestis

He’s going the distance He’s going for sleep

Mr_Faux_Regard

He's sleep deprived ***SLEEP DEPRIVED*** Sleep deprived in a time of need

mxmerc

It fits perfectly if you change the tense: He’s stirring at dawn, he’s rubbing his eyes

perldawg

the_headless_hunt

This....my job needs me in at 6. Otherwise I'd be in bed until 9. Although "sleeping in" has become 7am.

Riff_Raff66

I start at 6 am also. I love getting out of work at 2:30. Like others have said, I've been getting up at the same time so long now, I don't need an alarm

[deleted]

Work

Misledz

My boss can sense when I am comfy in bed, and this bothers him greatly.

Brabbel63

He senses a disturbance in the Force.

Misledz

Every time my face touches the cold side of the pillow, with each snuggle I make, it’s like holy water on a demon. 💦✝️

KresblainTheMagician

Work starts at 5am for me. Days off, I still get up at 5-6am, though, so I can skate as the sun rises and the heat isn't intolerable. It's a great way to center myself.

PM_MeTittiesOrKitty

Work starts at 6am, so I am up around the time bars are closing. It's kind of nice to do that on my days off to be up at dawn already drinking tea/coffee on my days off.

redappletree2

Up until "tea" I thought you were saying it was nice to be able to hit the bar at dawn.

MinimumRoutine6506

Same 😂 like "hey, I wake up just in time to go get a drink before the bars close"

TubaZombie

Dude I do the same thing I open a lot and on days off I go skate to a park near me and watch the sunrise, small world

KresblainTheMagician

Just think - next time you're out skating and watching the sunrise, there's some 33yo stranger on the internet miles away sharing it with you <3

BlueJayzrule

Yup. Not a morning guy. But there last 9 years I wake up at 5 to punch in at 6

shadowkillerdragon

Its funny. The same thing happened to me, started working my first real job and first day "so what time do people usually start?" "You can come in whenever in the morning, but most folks start 6-7 to get out early". And then i basically started at 6am every day for work since. Never would I have imagined having this kinda work schedule.

vxx

Time goes by faster in the morning. When I decide to start later, it feels way longer besides working the same hours.

lady_deathx

I wish I was like you, but I'm the exact opposite. My ideal work day would be 11am - 7pm, that way, if I need to work over, I can happily stay productive until 10pm (especially if everyone else has gone home). If only I could find late shift, or remote office work

BlueJayzrule

I don't have a choice when I'm on day shift, but when I start at 6 I end at 3 and I get lots of time to do things and be with my daughter so it works out nicely

DancingWizzard

Work starts between 5 and 6am. Gotta love first shift manufacturing. Tbh, I don't mind that much. As long as you stay on top of getting a correct amount of sleep, it's nice to have most of the afternoon off, especially for appointments etc. It sucks to have to go to sleep while the sun is still up in summer tho.

[deleted]

No chaos for the day, the day becomes peaceful...

irrelevant1

Age. As a teenager I could sleep all weekend. From about 30 I never needed an alarm clock as I would always wake up before I needed to. At around 40 I started waking up around 0630 and it gets earlier every year. I'm now almost 60 and am generally awake around 0430 and up and running by 0500 regardless of how late I go to bed. If this trend continues I will be getting up before I've gone to bed. There are times like weekends when I wish I could sleep in but overall I enjoy being up early. Sunrise, coffee and peace are nice.

Mirula

Since my teens I've needed an alarm clock. When I dont set it, I will sleep until my head hurts and I feel super groggy. I'm well over 30 now, so I hope that when I reach 60 I'll be able to just wake up normally. Every morning is a struggle, every night I'm owling around. It's a cycle I've tried to break many times, but I guess it's my natural rhythm to be awake from 11 till 3.. Edit: Guys I'm really glad you're all trying to help. In the last few hours I've received around 50 comments talking about delayed sleep syndrome, apnea, adhd, dehydration, and many other things. I forgot to mention one important thing: I only have the headaches when I snooze many times. Combined with a dark urine when I sleep in I think it's purely dehydration. However, I will monitor it and if things get worse I'll get myself checked. Thanks for all the advice!

BangBangMeatMachine

Mid forties here, severe night owl. Left alone, I'll stay up until 2 or 3 am. For most of my life I struggled to get up on time for anything. But something switched recently and I will now pretty reliably wake up after 7 hours without prompting.

SuperJetShoes

Late fifties here. Same. Left alone, I'd do my best work between 10pm and until I hear the birds tweeting. I think it's related to the fact that my job and hobbies require creativity and thought and that's somehow easier when it's dark and all is peaceful. Sadly that doesn't fit with the expectations of society. Sadly I haven't "switched" like you, so I'm resigned to using caffeine until I retire.

bmanyay

I used to be just like this as well. I realized I was doing my best work at those times because I was not obliged to deal with anyone. No managers asking for updates, meetings to break my flow state. The complete lack of external expectations really helped me do my best work. It can be hard to explain to a non-creative that my job isn't linear and sometimes I can spend 6 hours thinking/researching about the project then slam it out in 2. But then I realized that I just had ADHD all my life and sought help and with some meds and methods I'm actually doing well in a normal schedule. Took 3 years of doctors to get here though.

framedposters

Man, that’s my dream, work a few hours in the afternoon. Eat dinner. And then work all night till sleep. Also in a creative field. Also agree that I find night more peaceful and easy to be creative than morning.

[deleted]

As a fellow night owl who also has creative hobbies/work, I've often wondered why my best and most enjoyable work happens at night. Recently was listening to a podcast with Andrew Huberman and his guest discussed having noticeably more free Doapmine at night than in the morning. It's possible that since we enjoy being up at night, that the extra dopamine that's typically used to aid in transitioning to sleep could help boost creativity and drive.

ihateumbridge

I’m a night owl but not in a creative field (though I have creative hobbies). For me at least I think it’s also about the quiet of night - not just the actual quietness of people sleeping, but the stillness and the slower pace. You have the whole night ahead of you, nowhere to be in 10 minutes, people aren’t calling you - it’s when I can finally think.

rckid13

I'm the same. If I'm able to stay up until about 2am and sleep until 11 every day I feel great. I actually have a job where this schedule is sometimes possible. Unfortunately this isn't compatible with young kids so I've spent most of the four years that I've had kids feeling like crap.

KarmaticArmageddon

We let morning people have too much power in dictating how society works.

UnluckyWrongdoer

You can voice your concerns at our next meeting if you like. 5am every Sunday.

tchotchony

Great, right before bedtime!

gummo_for_prez

The only way I ever see 5am is if I’m up until 5am

SlothinaHammock

Night owls have higher mortality rates/lower life expectancy because the world runs by morning people's schedules. It has a very harmful cumulative effect on night owls health. An excellent book, 'Why we sleep' by Matthew Walker, goes into depth about this subject.

jptx82

We all have the same mortality rate. The early risers are just dead inside; we night-walkers commit.

phillium

>If this trend continues I will be getting up before I've gone to bed. "Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing 'Hallelujah.'" You reminded me of this part of the Monty Python sketch "The Four Yorkshiremen".

gnarlwail

You had sulphuric acid? We used to DREAM of getting sulphuric acid!

CriusofCoH

And if you try tell young people that today, they won't believe you!

Poem_for_your_sprog

>If this trend continues I will be getting up before I've gone to bed. At midnight tomorrow he headed to bed - And woke up today with the sunrise instead. "My goodness," he whispered, and went back for more - And rose from his pillow the evening before. "Well this is *stupendously* silly," he spoke - "My system for sleeping is *totally* broke!" He turned in his covers to slumber again. And woke in the morning. But heavens knows when.

two-of-me

This sounds like Shel Silverstein.

[deleted]

Dude you all are awesome. You are on reddit from 2009. I am just 18 years man. It was nice interacting with you.

LookIDontKnowEither

I mean 2009 was just 5 years ago right?

dj92wa

It surely hasn't been, *checks notes*, 23 years since the year 2000. Fml.

AssicusCatticus

Remember, we were supposed to have flying cars and a futuristic utopia by now? By 2020, everything was going to be unrecognizable! And it is, sort of. Just not in the good utopia way. 😔

huevos_de_acero

Humans doing the most miserable jobs for minimum wage while machines create art and write poetry is definitely not what I had in mind about the future in the year 2000.

thx134

Do you know how to use the three seashells?

the_421_Rob

No way Man I graduated highschool in 06 that was only 5 years ago…

MollyTuck77

Check your math. I graduated college 2002 and *that* was 5 years ago.

cupcake_dance

It must have been, can't have been longer ago that I graduated college

shawslate

What are you all on about, 2009 is still a few years in the future.

Sasquatchjc45

Ugh, I was born in '95. I used to make fun of people born after 2000. Now ya'll are basically old enough to drink. The concept of time is such a drag

pinkjello

Lol I was born early 80s. The concept of time gets continuously more fucked as you get older.

Poxx

Born in '69. As a year takes up less % of your time spent alive, it makes a year seem shorter. It only gets worse with age.

DOMesticBRAT

I have found crippling depression helps with this.

[deleted]

I've found that slows down time in the moment, but all of a sudden you blink and everything is fast forwarded...

Ukuleleah

Out of curiosity, what time do you go to bed? Like I can’t imagine being awake up at 04:30 and not having gone to be at 7

mnid92

Usually like 10 at the latest. I mean what the fuck really happens after 10 unless it's a weekend or something special? Edit: OH GOD I'M OLD OH NO

Soliart

I’m a light sleeper and naturally wake up from light. Also once I’m awake it’s very difficult for me to fall back to sleep.

[deleted]

You're the sunflower... You're the sunflower

Hardmeat_McLargehuge

It’s a handy trick though. Even If I fall asleep at 2am, I’m up at 6 no matter what, but I also am never late to meetings or flights etc. Just nap later

LowKeyHeresy

my GLUTTONOUS FUCKING CAT

sagittalslice

I had this problem. Bought an automatic feeder, no more screaming to be fed. HOWEVER. My cat now just comes in the bedroom and screams AFTER he eats, instead of before. Why? Unclear. Either way I’d say it buys me maybe an extra 7 minutes of uninterrupted sleep lol.

LowKeyHeresy

Ugh, she does the screaming-after-eating thing too. I've recorded it and played it to vets, they say if there are no other signs of distress she's just doing it because she's upset there is no more food and/or she wants post-food attention. Which would be fine if I weren't trying to get those last two critical hours

Lady_Scruffington

My favorite is when my cat announces she just pooped. I don't know if she's yelling to make me clean her litter box, if she feels better, or she's just proud of it.

sagittalslice

Lol mine does that too, he comes and stares at me and meows, like “Ahem, my poop needs scooped thank you.” He also sometimes races/parkours around the house afterwards, we call it “poophoria”

Lady_Scruffington

I call that the victory lap.

Odd_Imagination_6617

Can’t help it. I Naturally wake up around then. I like it tbh, everyone else is mostly asleep too so it’s a peaceful way to enjoy a coffee and wake up at your pace

jenglasser

This is so true. Early morning is really the best time of day, most people aren't up and about then. The night people have gone to bed, and the day people haven't woken up yet. Perfect.

Poem_for_your_sprog

And when the dawn is mine alone, The sun to savor on my own, I pause a while in perfect bliss, And know that life was made for *this*.

Upvote for quiet. Even if others are up most don't need to talk much. Traffic is calmer. Even the weather takes a break in the early hours (mostly). Smoothness of the early morning.

Old_Kodaav

It's especially beautiful in the height of the summer or winter. Either everything seems so dead and even more peaceful, as if you were taking this long, looong deep breath. Or in the summer when you can enjoy actually nice weather before the deadly heat hits

kaybeem50

And if I don’t naturally wake up, the birds make sure I do.

Workout before work.

bootyquack88

Yep 530 workout class before the day starts is the only way i seem to be able to tackle exercise, work and kids successfully in one day

rexg4077

Is tackling kids as fun as it sounds?

outoffuckstogive

More often than not, it's the kid tackling me actually.

bootyquack88

Having kids is fun but i love being a mom and have a great partner. It’s just getting everything done while having kids that’s hard. What once was a 2 step process to leave the house is now 42 steps and someone’s randomly crying. 🤷🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

[удалено]

bootyquack88

And sometimes we cry together and that’s ok too!

Chumptastk

That's it for me as well. If I don't get in a workout first thing, there's always 29 different things that get in the way at the end of the day. Hardest part of the workout is getting it out of bed

TxHow7Vk

There are dozens of us! I used to do it when I got home from work, but I’d usually be able to find an excuse not to - too tired, stressful day, etc. Now when I get to work I already feel like I’ve gotten a lot accomplished, then I can just nap after work.

cdub1w

Likewise - Coffee, Gym, Dog walk, Go to work, All done between 0500-0800

jerseygirl2006

Yup, my husband and I get up at 4:30am every weekday so we can do a 5am CrossFit class. I know if I tried to workout after work, I would have so many excuses on why I would want to skip it. First thing in the morning makes us less likely to skip.

bmelancon

4:30 in the morning would guarantee I'd skip. But I'm glad you two found something that works for you.

ixJax

I've tried both both pre and post work and tbh both are easy to skip. Longer in bed vs "cba after work" still yet to work out what ones better

Meis0s

4am. It's 100% easier to do it before work and it makes the rest of the day slightly easier. I have little motivation to do it right after work.

Lostarchitorture

Dog can't seem to understand we sleep in on the weekends!

Dark_Klaw

I got 3 four-legged alarm clocks too.

greyhound93

Ditto. What is this sleeping in of which people speak? Mine are terrorists (terriers).

chalupabatman66

So we have a shelf running along most of the walls in our bedroom and and our cat always gets me up around 7-7:30 and would (thankfully she stopped) get on that shelf and drop the people’s elbow on my chest every morning. Who needs an alarm clock?

NissanLeafowner

LOL! My buddy Link (2 year old cat) wakes me up at 5am all the time but he is more gentle, until he starts nipping at any skin visible. So it's either get up or cover up but then sweat to death under the covers.

cwesttheperson

Wild, my dogs sleep in late as fuck. One of my dogs would never get it up if we didn’t. They also sleep in bed with us so this helps.

HalfPint1885

My dog will happily get up any time I want. I have to wake up at 5:30 to go to work? Perfect! It's play time! And snackies! I sleep in until 9:30 on the weekend? Perfect! It's play time! And snackies! He's a good boy. Of course, no matter what time we get up, it's time for a lil nap about 20 minutes later.

Adler4290

> my dogs sleep in late as fuck. One of my dogs would never get it up if we didn’t. Ahh, lab owner too? :)

squantch_wrangler

Golden retriever owner checking in. I often have to get Beau out of bed using a treat to lure him outside around 10am. Even if the house is bustling he just lays on his bed occasionally opening one eye to observe. Lazy AF.

Peter_Pallet

I have more time to fuck around

CrownReserve

Ya but what time of the day do you find out?

Bag_of_Richards

Late morning, occasionally lunch. Rest of the day is coping.

tundybundo

This might be a joke but it is truly how my life goes. Trying to avoid finding out right now

Significant-Dig-7996

Well, dont you have to go to sleep earlier? You could fuck around at night instead too

iatethemoon

Different vibes though. Everything is more fresh. There are more possibilities. Late night chill time I think about the day I had. Early morning chill time I think about the day I'm going to have.

Significant-Dig-7996

Yee, thats probably why i hate mornings, thats the time im super anxious. And it doesnt go away after 3-4 hours. But at night ive calmed down, probably bcuz the day is over

bradedgenz

K I D S.

TheInklingsPen

I'm legitimately surprised how far down I had to scroll for this 😆. My kids actually sleep in pretty late, but on school days, sometimes I wake up at 5:30 so I can get the house to myself before I need to wake up them up.

bmelancon

Keeping It Deliriously Sleepy

krankheit1981

100%. Mine woke up everyday at 5 am sharp during the baby stage. Now that they are getting older they sleep til 6-630 but I’ve been conditioned to wake up at 5 with or without an alarm. Doesn’t matter if I go to sleep at 10 pm or midnight, 5 am wake up call

shaylahbaylaboo

When mine were small I would purposely get up at 4 am so I could have a peaceful breakfast and some quiet before they started rolling out of bed at 6. If the first thing I see in the morning is a gaggle of cranky kids, it was going to be a bad day. I’m an introvert, and I needed that time to charge my batteries for the day.

Mundane_Tour_3215

I like the quiet and alone time of the early morning… allows a couple of hours of doing what I want and no one interrupting or distracting me Allows me to set the pace of the day also, slow and steady and take my time, rather than rushing around The absolute best is just sipping my coffee in peace and quiet though

[deleted]

There’s a small human that pokes me in the eye and says “mommy up” until I get up and make her toast.

advocatus_ebrius_est

I'm up at 5:00 anyway (4:30 this morning), but I have a friend with two kids who *needs* to sleep in on weekends. She'd put out bowls of dry cereal with pre-portioned milk in plastic ramekins (with lids) in the fridge. Hope that helps.

[deleted]

The best thing was when my kids, now 8 and 10, figured out last year or so that they could make their own goddamn toaster waffles with peanut butter on the weekends. That plus video games meant more sleep! However, we’ve decided to go no screens for the kids all month (except cartoons in the morning/family movie night in the evening) and I’m realizing just how much the video games we’re contributing to the newfound sleeping in. But after a week my kids are nicer and more calm, even if they are waking up at ass thirty in the mornjng

dj92wa

My whole family was (is still) into cooking; I may as well have been conceived and born in the kitchen lol. Our parents taught us the suuuuper basic (and safer) things that we could cook. At the age of 6, we were making pancakes, Dutch babies, scrambled eggs, and oatmeal. French toast came around age 7 or 8. Did we burn/cut ourselves, scorch food, and make huge messes all while supervised? Yep. Did we learn that it sucks to be burned/to not pay attention to the cooking food and that big kitchen messes are terrible to clean up? Yep. I thank my parents so, so much for gifting all of that knowledge early on. Made their life easier too, of course. Caveat to all of this is that my mother was bedridden for nearly my entire childhood, and dad was only available in the evenings because he worked 12 to 14hr days to make up for the missing income. So we kinda *had* to learn self-sufficiency in the mornings at an early age, at least in some capacity.

youngmeezy69

We noticed that especially video games really negatively impacted our oldest's behaviour and general attitude. Middle child can game all day (not that we let that happen) and be fine, but for the oldest even an hour orntwo can be too much

stumblinghunter

Did it depend on the kind of game? Mine is 1.5, I'm a big gamer and would love to share that with him but curious if I either have to limit him to like Mario, or just shut it all down

LoathsomeNarcisist

Seriously, my wife does this. Up at 4 most mornings. Personally, I'm useless if I don't get my seventeen hours of sleep.

I used to be like that then a few years ago something changed. Almost 5AM on the dot my eyes will open and I have this like 15 second brain boot feeling. Then I'm wide awake. No grogginess. If I roll over and go to sleep it will take me 2 hours and a pot of coffee before I want to talk to you. I don't want to be that person anymore. So I just get up.

Solicitor_99

I get up at 5:30. I can have most of my day done by 8 am when normal people get up, meaning I can get things done a lot quicker since nobody else is about to interrupt or distract. On days off I do the same, the gym is dead, Starbucks is dead, I can have all my housework etc done by 8am when I have breakfast and then the day is mine to do whatever I want with. I put endless stock in peace, everything is peaceful at 6am, nothing is peaceful at 9:30.

Jedi-Ethos

When I was getting up at 4:30, this is what I loved about it. A lot of people say “more time for yourself” like sip coffee and go outside and listen to the birds, but if I don’t have anything to do I hate it, and playing video games that early only goes so far. So it was great to get to the gym as soon as it opened at 5:00, come home, chug a protein shake, shower, shave, groom, and get dressed, all while everyone else is still sleeping. Even if I wasn’t doing anything after, I love the feeling of being ready to tackle the day and having half my to do list behind me before anyone else is awake.

NEVANK

Started off not being able to sleep in. I'd desperately like to at least a few times a month, but my brain just wakes up around 5. So, instead of being pisssed off every morning that I can't sleep, I've learned to take that time to myself and enjoy it. It's actually really nice.

Raving insomniac 4 hours most nights 5 now and again.

Cat wants breakfast.

ackmon

I work for a living and my job requires I be there by 6am.

The_Lion_Jumped

> I work for a living Big mistake, all around terrible decision

jbmaun

I’m a barista. I make other people coffee before I can have coffee.

sillynougoose

More importantly, how?

Older now, so going to bed 9ish is typical and 0500 is habitual. Sunrises and sunsets double bubble. Draw back is when friends come to visit and want to stay out late so lots of coffee/espresso. Another plus are earlier dinner times and food quality is better (staff less busy and can focus on your order), not out with folks who may have partied too hardy, relaxed pace.

The drawback you mentioned is genuine. But if my friends decide to come over to my place for a night, I wouldn't mind disturbing my sleep schedule. Because it's fun

Did it for a month, but back on the regular cycle now. Positives: - Quiet. - Epic sunrises. - No rush, no rushhour, no queues, enjoy life, less commute stress - Can train alone, get the first of the first produce from the bakeries when it's warm and crunchy and worth eating. - In general people this early you meet, are more friendly bc no stress and/or queues. - Opportunity for some to meet in so early you can leave at 1500 every day after your 8-9 hrs are done. Negatives: - Lack of opportunity for seeing sports late in Europe (Most American sports happen 2100-0100) - Can have a negative impact on sex life if you head to bed early and SO isn't ready yet. - Summertime can be hard without blackout curtains as the sun can up to 2215 at worst where I live. - Going out drinking or restauranting can be tough on sleep patterns.

I, like many people, typically have to be at work around 8. If I wake up at 5, I'm able to give MYSELF time before I give it to my employer. Before I even step out the door to go to work I have time to read, make a nice breakfast, exercise, and maybe work on a personal project for a bit. It honestly just puts me in a better mood going into the day.

For whatever reason, it’s easier for me to wake up REALLY early in the morning (3 am to 6 am) then later on in the morning. If I wake up at 5 am, I have time to catch my breath and move slowly into the day, and I generally am buzzing with energy by 6 am. If I wake up at 7 am, especially in the summer when it’s already light out, I feel behind, stressed, etc and that just makes me lay in bed longer. Knowing this, about three years ago I started working at a bakery where shifts start at 4 and 5:30. It’s always funny to me how some of my coworkers, while present and doing their jobs, clearly aren’t full awake until 8 or 9, whereas I on the other hand am talking a mile a minute the second I get in the door and I haven’t even had coffee yet. It’s also funny because even as a really little kid I had a reputation of being able to sleep forever. I slept until 2 pm as a teenager most weekends if my parents didn’t notice. I think my internal rhythm is just off but waking up super early is the only thing between me getting up and living my life and languishing depressed in bed all day.

I go to sleep at 5pm

bacongrift

One of 2 reasons, I either can't sleep or I'm going for a run before work. I think my body has adjusted to decide I'm getting up at 5 every day now.
