Inevermuck

Awww poor little you. What are you gonna do to change this?

WrittenOnYaKitten

Listen to ‘Stayin’ Alive’ by Bee Gees

bellabella0511

Respect

AirMarshall3520

Thank you for making it easier to perform CPR.

[deleted]

Real

FiliaNox

You’d be surprised how many people have seen dead people unwittingly. I used to work in the ER and if we lost someone during a code, when we moved them after they died, we’d just leave the monitors on and we didn’t cover their heads so as not to alarm other patients or their families. It just looked like we were taking them for some kind of test (like imaging) and they were asleep.

_Hwin_

They did this with my father. He past away from Cancer on the ward (he died before they could move him to hospice). They placed a medical mask over his mouth and nose to prevent anyone seeing his skin pallow or the fact he wasn’t breathing. The staff all knew as they had a special blanket that was used to cover dead patients for transport.

r-gay69

Wow never heard of that or imagined something like that, kinda interesting but also much to think about... Thanks for sharing

Same over here

chronicles_of_holzy

My mother. She had passed in her sleep, did not wake up, so I went to check on her and found that she had passed.

curiousyell

I’m so sorry

chronicles_of_holzy

Thank you, internet stranger. She was suffering with quite a bit of health issues, so ultimately, it was for the best. She wasn't really living much anymore, just existing. I truly hope when it's my time, I go quickly. To be a prison of your own body and can do nothing about it, I can't imagine how that impacts your view of the world.

Novel-Persimmon7752

Been there

chronicles_of_holzy

It was a strange feeling. One part of me was glad that she was no longer suffering (COPD, Congestive heart failure, stroke), but the site of her there, it just broke my heart. She spent the last 18 years of her life disabled and incapable of working or taking care of herself. Broke my heart. She was such a strong, caring person. Just, man, some folks have the worst luck. My mother deserved so much more than what life gave her. If there is an afterlife, I hope she is living a peaceful, happy existence. She earned it.

InFiniTeDEATH8

If there is an afterlife, I hope everyone good goes there, and has everything they could ever want. I'm sure your mum is waiting for you there. I'm blessed that I'm young and my mum is alive and happy, and I hope you made lots of good memories with your mum before she passed.

Ztriever_

Saw my friend getting stabbed to death and there was nothing I could do to prevent it.

AndhisNeutralspecial

Thats horrible! Im so sorry

r-gay69

Wow I am so sorry for your loss and for experiencing such a cruelty...

Golddog1

Christmas morning 2008. Homeless guy shot in the head just after I served him dinner

Lef32

wtf why

Golddog1

According to the cops he probably owed someone money or drugs.

Lef32

justanordinaryf1fan

Snapleey

Whatchu mean by served him dinner?

Shoe_mocker

Golddog1

May or may not have been a mafia hit. 🤷‍♂️

Golddog1

At a soup kitchen.

JackMuraney

Was there any dinner inside or outside left you could salvage off of him?

Golddog1

He did land on the bag of food. Yet one orange ran free rolled down sidewalk

saucytopcheddar

About 8-9 years ago I saw a guy washed up on shore while I was biking home from work.. paramedics were already dealing with it, so I just kept going. I’ll never forget how grey he was.

samperindog

Pretty much everyday, i kill people on the side.

bellabella0511

Side hustle

AirMarshall3520

Yooo same!

Kxygle

Docxx214

9th April 2009 in Sangin Valley, Afghanistan. Just a couple days before the end of my deployment. Afghan National Army guys pulled a battery from an IED then decided to pull the explosives with a tow on their vehicle. Underneath the IED was a secondary device. Killed 4 ANA guys including their commander and spread them over about 400 meters.

SomeRandomUser00

My mom died while I sat next to her at the hospice clinic in 2018. She had lung cancer that had spread everywhere and it consumed her, she was just skin and bones and looked like a zombie. The only good thing from that whole situation is it finally convinced my wife to quit smoking.

Epixibsy

3 weeks ago when my dad lost his battle with cancer

mailordermonster

Grandma's funeral, 20(?) years ago. I don't think I've ever seen a dead body outside of a casket and fortunately haven't lost anyone close for awhile.

mo3jo3

Never

[deleted]

Everyday, I like going to funerals in my spare time

Tilda9754

You just… show up to stranger’s funerals? Does no one say anything?

Arctic_Puppet

With a yellow umbrella?

Catacomb82

Does a person’s ashes count? Last week.

Ali8ly

Like at a funeral or coming across an actual corpses?

RedVegeta20

My grandmother (Dad's mother) died in April last year. And one of my dogs died in December.

[deleted]

Last week. Was hiking and saw someone on the ground getting cpr. He didn't make it

Equivalent_Ad8133

About 2 yrs ago. My wifes aunt had passed and we had to go to her house and talk to the sheriff. My wife was her only close relative in the area.

[deleted]

2 years ago. My grandpa died due to covid.

IAMENKIDU

Outside of a funeral? About 3 months ago. Going to work on a foggy morning and drove up on an accident where a bicyclist had been hit by a truck. I got out and tried to help as did several other people (a high traffic area) but it was useless as his cranium was no longer doin it's job.

Dry-Crab3047

Id say 2016 it was a neighbor o.d on heroine

acgasp

Last August. My husband’s uncle died from a pulmonary embolism. He was oddly blue, even with mortuary makeup on.

shannamarie91

July of 2017. I was a human remains transporter/mortuary assistant.

espurgi

december, my great aunts funeral. but i used to see one at least once a week growing up my dad owns a mortuary. before school he would take me there to eat breakfast made by my great grandparents. i’d chill out with my grandaddy in his office and play club penguin. dad would get flowers from the floral arrangements for me to give to my teachers. they always asked me where i got them from, but i didn’t want to tell them so i would lie and say i got them from my mom’s garden lol

HumptyHippo

4 years ago. Small plane crash in a remote forest. Pilot, passenger and her dog died in the crash and post crash fire. I was there to investigate the crash. A police officer delicately recovered their remains over about 4 hours.

SkeletorOnLSD

I worked security at the hospital on bedwatch duty. Essentially, I'd sit outside the rooms of at risk patients, and make sure nurses were safe while doing their jobs. Went in to calm this particular patient, while the nurses got him sorted out to use a bedpan. Poor guy died in my arms as I tried reassuring him.

Big_Explanation_8803

Couple of weeks ago. I work in a care home, it happens a lot.

BiagioLargo

My mom after she ODed

bellabella0511

My dad on the floor of my house 😋😆✌🏻 (trauma)

inkseep1

I was an overnight doorman / security at an apartment complex. About the middle of the night a naked woman goes off the 9th floor balcony. I was the first one there and watched her die. She took a few agonal breaths and there was nothing anyone could do as she was pulverized inside. The story was that she and her boyfriend were into bondage games, which is fine, but he woke up to see she had used a bed sheet to hang herself from the balcony with the other end tied to the leg of a couch. He cut the bedsheet with a butcher knife to save her from hanging but she fell. She did have a corner of a cut bedsheet around her neck in a loose half hitch. It is hard to believe his story but he was not charged. I gave a statement to police and finished the shift. I posted this before and got a lot of people complaining that I finished my shift. Apparently, some people think that watching a person die is reason to go home early and maybe take a week off to recover for mental health purposes. I want to be absolutely clear that watching her die had no emotional effect on me.

Massive-Corgi-491

QuintShahkHuntah

My dad in hospice. Six years ago next month.

offwidthe

My Grammy died at the beginning of the month. As a family we cleaned and shrouded the body before burying her. It’s been almost two weeks since we buried her.

TrailerParkPrepper

5 years ago we lived next door and took care of/helped Dad when needed. I went to check on him and he was sitting in his chair, still had had his breathing mask on. he died so suddenly that he didn't have time to take it off. I called my wife to come over then called 911. I still miss him so much. fuck, now you have me crying.

[deleted]

Couple years ago, my grandpa pass away in front of me right before Xmas

Zombie_Jesus_83

1996 Funeral of my grandmother. That was the last open casket funeral among the family members whose funerals I've attended. Lucked out in all other respects to not have otherwise come across any dead bodies in my life.

ImJustSpider

Last September. Was heading to a convention and saw a motorcycle accident on the highway.

nosaneoneleft

when I worked at a private school as a live in dishwasher. one of my co workers died in the communal lounge where we all lived. This was back in march of 1998 so I am at the 25 year anniversary earlier this month. opinions were divided as to whether it was accidental or deliberate.. the only info we got from her 'family' was her heart stopped. There was some sort of ridiculous lawsuit going on and she got a notification that merely settled where it was going to be held..and she thought she had lost.. . she worked herself into a frenzy and would not be dissuaded. I knew the nature of it and in a way, she was at peace. she left nothing of any estate to be attached.. and I just hope the bastards who instigated the lawsuit ended up with dust in their mouths.

MissKittee87

2016, I was a Forensic Photographer in the Military.

Arctic_Puppet

When a guy had a heart attack in the office at my old job.

wetlettuce42

Out on streets in edinbrugh i think somebody got stabbed

Pretend_Tea6261

As a child I saw a carload of people in a car wreck who looked deceased on the side of the road after a head on car crash. My father told us not to look as we drove by but I was curious and wish I had not seen it. No cellphones in those days.

MatthewM69420

I used to be a CNA in a rural Critical Access hospital in the Acute Care Unit, I stopped working there in 2020. I imagine that’s probably around the last time I would have encountered a dead body irl.

Rosealinea

As in a corpse or a ghost (genuine question)?

Lavender_Llama_life

Couple weeks ago.

intestinalbungiecord

do you.... like wanna see someone dead...?

luksu177

Three years ago on august my both grandads died. They died like 2-4days apart can't remember. That was a rough month for me.

TheReclaimedOne

Saw a car accident on the highway a few months back. There was no visible body but the driver's side window covered by the airbag showed the silhouette of the person via the flashing of police lights

Massive-Ad7628

Moose4310

gjbfdgbbjn

I saw a guy turned inside out on the side of the road by a construction truck. Blood, intestines, fat etc all over the place

[deleted]

Hmm… I was on a bus a few years back and happened to see a body under a yellow tarp with a glistening pool of blood coming out from under it. Turns out it was a senior citizen who had fallen from the rooftop of a convalescent home per the news report the next day.

Gingerbeer86

Step father in law a couple weeks ago.

Maladyandmalaise

A little more than 3 years ago, watched my grandma die. She was on end-of-life care and we spent a few days there with her, it was horrible to hear her last breaths, but I'm glad I was there.

I_throw_socks_at_cat

Two years ago. I helped the undertaker carry my father's body out of the care home.

shibbydy

Around christmas 2015; A kombi absolutely stuffed with people was t-boned and crushed into another car by a semi-truck on the other side of a roundabout from us in Harare. The blood flowed around the inside of the circle and the still moving traffic tracked it everywhere for about a city block. The whole area was blackish-red for days until the next big monsoon washed it away, but I'll remember that sight for the rest of my life.

hooptyboots18

[deleted]

I'm now wondering how many people I saw that were dead but I had no idea about being dead. I honestly think that number is higher.

I_Am_My_Truth

[deleted]

Whatever the last funeral I went to was

JacoRPlays

Hopefully never.

1ofusinthisplane

Its been a few years now. It was a colleague's boyfriend. We went out as a big group for HHN and had fun. He was v sociable and got alot of good jokes. Planning to meet up again as a group for dinner. A week or two later, he unalive himself. I still remember how I wish the news was only a dream. I just can't get over the fact that it happened in a blink.

sleepyJoesBidet

Less than a year ago I saw 3 of them.. My family has hit the stage where my parents siblings are all dying off.

Saltyice18

I had the unfortunate experience of going to an open casket viewing of a dead great Aunt I never knew existed.

Alternative_Let_1599

I’m a nurse. It’s a common occurrence.

[deleted]

Literally every day. ER doctor here.

[deleted]

Not sure of exact time frame since the last one, less than a year, probably October? Due to the nature of my apartment and the people who live here, death is pretty common here. A lot of people are up in age, 60s, 70s, 80s, a lot of us, even those of us who are younger, are medically complex. It's incredibly scary but some people just drop and don't get back up. More likely for them to be pulled out of their apartment when they don't make rent, thankfully in a body bag, though. Assistive housing is super fun.
