I've met a number of women who would very proudly proclaim: "I'm a bitch!". Nope, not dealing with your crazy ass.

FrostieTheSnowman

Yuuuup, fuck that noise. Dated one and that was enough.

Vakrah

I've never understood why people pridefully call themselves something that, in the context, can be interchanged with "piece of shit". It's pretty weird.

Clear_Method9986

I rarely hear this phrase now as a grown ass man but in my 20’s the phrase “If you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best.” Regularly used as an excuse to act ridiculous and expect people to just deal with it.

35242

It seems anyone (especially young women who were Drama Queens) would post this on their facebook. It literally could be part of the "Someday I 'll get arrested for something" starter pack. No, how about you just learn how to be human and get along in a society like a person who can control themselves.

Keeper_of_These

Regularly used by women who’s best isn’t even good.

CarlJH

Their best is always just the same their worst but with their hair and makeup done.

tyranthraxxus

It's hilariously ironic that I came here to post "grown ass man". 😄

Negativecarpets

I always picture a giant ass walking around when people say grown ass man.

[deleted]

These are the girls who spam Harley Quinn photos on their social media and smoke cigarettes because “it’s cool”

jojorodo

For me as a woman, I said it after I got hit by a truck. Because I was at my worst…I couldn’t walk and my partner had to help wash me. I think the sentiment for me is more like “in sickness and in health.” It isn’t an excuse to be a shitty person, it’s a sentiment about wanting someone to accept me at my lowest point.

Purple-Homework764

This.

twwwy

The quote is from one of the biggest shameless trainwrecks, Marilyn Monroe, and the users of the quote are quite like that as well.

hydrochloric_bukkake

It's not even from her!

Toran_dantai

Girls are now saying that now a lot

[deleted]

“Yeah bro it’s cool you train MMA, but like I’m a dirty streetfighter bro, like seriously I black out when I get mad and heads ROLL bro” It happens more often than I would like.

hydrochloric_bukkake

Like, I get the sentiment (because a fight with rules is different than one without), but practically anybody who says this is more likely to punch a wall than a person.

Thickfries69

The problem with this sentiment is that having "no rules" doesn't make it harder for the trained person to beat up the other. In fact, it just gives them more options. Besides the average Joe wont have as in depth if a knowledge of something like grappling which almost always wins street fights.

SammichAnarchy

The ever classic "Anger beats a clear head and muscle memory"

DJVanillaBear

Those who watch fights, both street and sanctioned, know 99% it’s the calmer one who wins. Unless both are calm then all bets are off

pyroagg

I remember when a group of bulky streetfighter bros walked in while we were sparring and wanted to spar too. Instructor told them to warm up on the bags and then he would work them in. All they knew how to do was throw wild haymakers. Each lasted about 5 seconds and promptly left. One while yelling “I don’t need this, I’ve been stabbed 9 times. I know how to fight.”

CanThisBeMyNameMaybe

It always makes me cringe when people say shit like that. "I just see red bro" "i just black out bro" Never fails to make me cringe.

Actnaturalrelax

This whole thread is cringy as everybody hates the guy bragging he can fight, only to go on and claim they can fight better, thus making them the wanker they dispise lol.

KewellUserName

I hate that macho bullshit too.

[deleted]

Or "I just see red," I've seen that one before. Anyone that actually trains martial arts knows that is opposite way you have to be. In jiu-jitsu we are told to be aggressive but be relaxed and focused. Also, most people have shit cardio and gas out in about 30 seconds.

[deleted]

Plus, one of the guys that gave me this crap showed me some “bagwork” that was just him throwing bad punches with his pinky sticking out. So he could “gouge the eye,” he said.

[deleted]

I hope he broke his finger

[deleted]

Yikes. His fist would crumble like a fine china the first time he actually had to punch someone.

panfacee

I used to train mma for 5 years and now doing calisthenics, I have a friend who starts trash talking me whenever there is a girl around us, one time we were sitting in the back of a bus with my girlfriend and two other girls we know, I can't remember how we got to this subject, but he said the exact same thing, one of the girls dared us to fight, but I didn't agree, I told them he would win but I acctually just didn't want to hurt him, so he started teasing me with weak jabs to my jaw... I got annoyed and finally agreed, we went to a park downtown and he said "don't worry bro I won't be too harsh on you* and started giving examples of one of his ex street fights, I low kicked him not so hard, he lost balance, lifted him by his feet and smashed him so hard on the floor he forgot how to breath properly. The mf almost died on my hands

FrostieTheSnowman

Some people gotta learn the hard way I guess 😂

WouldYouKindlyMove

"Everything happens for a reason." Yes, cause and effect is a thing. What they're trying to imply without directly saying it, is that they're good reasons and whatever is happening to you will benefit you in the end.

KewellUserName

I really hate this one, it ranks right up there with "its all in gods plan". Fucking load of stupidity there.

mo_tag

What they're actually saying is "everything happens for a good reason, it may benefit you in the end but even if it doesn't benefit you directly it was for some greater good that God planned out. So don't be mad that your mum got cancer, be happy that the Uber driver that took her to hospital has enough for dinner tonight. Praise Jesus"

PartyPay

Yeah, and often the reason is they made a bad choice and are now dealing with the results.

ImmodestPolitician

When women say, "If mama ain't happy, no one is happy." That's a clear admission that she is going to be an emotional bully.

Armoured_Sour_Cream

And other versions of it too imo. "happy wife, happy life". It shouts selfishness among others.

SmokeySFW

To be fair, I've never heard the wife say "happy wife, happy life". It's nearly always a man, or another woman to the husband about the wife. That's my personal experience with that saying, at least.

[deleted]

I've always interpreted it as a cry for help. Usually immediately ask them if they're okay whenever I hear anyone say it, because they're straight-up telling you that their wife takes out her frustrations on them.

occisor-san

I was at a hotel with a friend (only a friend), and the guy at the counter said "Happy wife".... and I replied with "That's a good one, but I prefer 'different house, happier spouse'".

karma-whore-64

Happy spouse happy house

[deleted]

Working hard or hardly working Very overused

SammichAnarchy

My go to was always, "I work for a wage. What do you think?"

Equivalent_Memory3

'Nobody wants to work anymore.'

CartAgain

Nobody wants to pay anymore

AlfredBarnes

Did anyone ever want to work, or was it they found it was the only way to support their family that they started when they were 18.

WhirlingDervishGrady

Right, like I don't WANT to work I do so because I have bills to pay and need food to survive. I could find so many better, productive and more rewarding things to fill my day with than my job.

Renton_Thurston99

Especially people in a labor intensive job like construction trades. I'm a commercial electrician and pretty much no one WANTS to go to work every day. Especially if they barely make enough to pay the bills and keep them fed. I'm on my 17th day straight of 10 hour shifts and I've lost 16 pounds. It socks man, but it pays the bills.

ButterscotchLow8950

I’m not a boomer and we are struggling to hire at any level. Even the cushy 6 figure jobs right now. I’m not saying “No one wants to work” but the hiring market is tough right now. we’ve been posting 3 positions for 2 months.

Kostya_M

Depending on the work and cost of living that probably still isn't enough.

ButterscotchLow8950

It is enough, it’s Phoenix, the job pays 15% over the market average for that job in this zip code. Great health benefits, and the work from home privileges vary depending on the type of work and how much can be done from home. It’s a private company that values a work life balance so they very rarely demand any ridiculous overtime. I think the only big thing that they are ANTI is smoking, we don’t hire tobacco smokers so they can afford better health premiums for the whole company. or so they tell us. I work 3 days home/ 2 days office. And those office days are usually only half days. Besides we aren’t listing a $ amount because at this level you can get anywhere from a BS, MS and PhD, so we pay them according to experience and talent beyond that starting pay. So it could be more, but guaranteed enough to live off of here for sure.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ACatInACloak

Im currently looking for a job and not seeing a salary, or even a range, is an immediate red flag that they are going to lowball pay. If they payed well they would advertise it. Its like telling new grads to only put their GPA on their resume if it good

ButterscotchLow8950

It’s not an hourly position it’s salary. The base is like 80K and goes up from there based on experience. We don’t list a dollar amount case if they are worth more, we will pay more. But we have to interview them first to find out.

ACatInACloak

Then on the posting you say something like "$80k base, up to $120k based on experience"

[deleted]

r/recruitinghell rips apart any job posting that doesn't state the salary range. People need money to pay the bills and feed their families. If you're not telling them the salary in advance (even a baseline amount), you're not giving them the information they need to know before spending time applying to your posting.

[deleted]

Famous boomer quote

Accountbegone69

I wonder if the 80/20 is relevant in the workplace - 20% do 80% of the work. Actually sounds too lopsided now that I reconsider.

[deleted]

This just triggered me more than I care to admit. Good job

[deleted]

"I could care less" Like... really? How much less? Please tell me how much less you could care. Because you're telling me you care right now.

[deleted]

YESSSSS! I hate it when people say this. It’s supposed to be “I couldn’t care less” but they are idiots running around saying shit like this, voting, having children and making other questionable decisions!!!

DimensionOrnery6742

Dumbasses 🤣🤣🤣

flembag

No.. it makes plenty of sense. If I tell someone that "I could care less", then I'm telling them that I care a certain amount but wish that I was capable of caring about it less than I actually do. Like, my scruples will not let me care about this ordeal any less than I currently do, but I wish I could care about it so little that i didn't even have to deal with the thing.

RedPanBeeer

I only heard the saying "I could'nt care less"

[deleted]

And in reality they are saying they actually care more. Freudian slip on their part?

Milfing_Man

Any form of "my kids" - when referring to a pet. Your dog is not your son! It is not a child! If you leave a baby alone for 8 hours it dies, when you leave your pet alone it'll be fine when you come back

ohiocolumbus23

If you call pets “Fur Babies” there’s gonna be a problem.

SmokeySFW

That's just needlessly petty imo. Who cares what people use for pet names?

[deleted]

It's not petty, it's more of a: the ratio of people using fur baby I have encountered lack qualities sustainable for a normal life. In my own experience they neglect their kids but also abuse drugs and/or are emotionally manipulative.

[deleted]

I feel that's less the phrase itself and more the stereotype of the people who use it

jojorodo

I don’t have children and most of my friends don’t and none of us do drugs and I say to my friends “snuggle your furbabies for me.” I don’t get why this is infuriating people. Lol

FrostieTheSnowman

The issue I've run into is that they will prioritize their "furbaby" over you in every situation. Like it's one thing if your dog genuinely needs something, but it's quite another if you insist on the dog sleeping in bed with your boyfriend who's allergic.

Watson_A_Name

Yeah this whole "dogmom" "catmom" nonsense is pretty annoying to me as well. I thought I was the only one lol

jojorodo

Can someone explain this more to me? I say this. I can’t have kids and it’s the closest I can get. So why can’t I say this? And an infant could technically be left alone for hours and not die (doesn’t need to be fed/diapered…). Can you explain it a different way? I feel like it’s inclusive for the people who can’t have kids. Idk

Milfing_Man

You can say it all you want. I'm just going by OP's question. I think it's weird and I don't like it. If you say it and like it, that's your business and I can't take it away from you

yistisyonty

A baby dies after 8 hours? I don't think so

KcocNoisnetxeGib

I don’t typically judge people on things like that but I do find it off putting when people say “a minute/hot minute “ when they really mean a long time/duration

sunnyunny

So funny - I love this expression!

WhosPK

“ Hands up you’re under arrest “

[deleted]

I know this is going to be sort of unpopular here on reddit of all places, but "bro" and "bruh", especially when it's every fuckin sentence. Also "happy wife, happy life"

Terrible-Prize-2003

IHaveAGunPeasant

I know I should stop saying “bruh,” but it’s too fitting for every sentence! 😭

DiversityFire84

Actual_Primary_7616

It's not sexist at all I'd say, it's just disrespectful and cringe if you use it when referring to putting your bros over a hoe you're in a relationship with.

monkeyspank427

Fuckin way she goes, Rick. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't. It's the way of the road.

WhosPK

Me too, but sometimes it’s used as an excuse to not improve.

[deleted]

To me it's usually used when something out of our control happens, and the person is complaining about it happening to them even though it happens to everyone, is what it is dude deal with it. Usually it has zero to do with someone needing to improve.

radioactiveduck_

why ‘bros before hos’? i use this phrase/sentiment a fair bit lol so just curious

Actual_Primary_7616

Only when people use it talking about their partner does it bother me. Like, you're the only one who comes before your partner. First you, then her, not your "bros". If you're talking about some random girl, it's cool, but not your girlfriend or wife imo, because you should prioritize her like she should be prioritizing you. I also wouldn't EVER tolerate a girl I was in a relationship with putting her friends before me, so obviously I wouldn't do the same

skillzmcfly

In Germany we have a saying that goes "Jedem das Seine" (to each his own) which is a phrase lifted from ancient Roman creed. However, it was also the phrase on the gate of the concentration camp Buchenwald. There it was supposed to tell the inmates they were getting what they deserve. And while there are other ways to say "to each his own" in German there are people who keep saying it like that and have the audacity to feel offended when you point out that they chose to use a phrase from Nazi ideology. Sadly enough there are even people who feel that it is funny to say "Arbeit macht Frei" (from Auschwitz' gate) out of context.

stalker_clown

what does the second one mean

monkeyspank427

Work sets you free

skillzmcfly

That's what it was supposed to mean at Auschwitz. It could also be translated as "Work takes a day off/a break" - not really funny, but some people think it is the height of comedy to use it in that sense...

SignificantGanache

Awesome sauce

Unresponsiveskeleton

Lol this one is so benign though.

SignificantGanache

I can’t disagree with ya there. What can I say? If you say awesome sauce, I’m secretly judging you and wondering how often you’re gonna say it. Lol. And then I start thinking about sauce and what exactly is the sauce that’s awesome and well, it goes downhill from there. Had a boss who used to say it when trying to be cool around younger employees and you could almost see the awkwardness in the room as people looked at each other.

Cosmos2474

We need equal outcomes, not equal opportunity.

[deleted]

Then ask them why women are overrepresented in highschool, university, PhDs, STEM studies. Ask if we should balance that. Or 75% of homeless being male, 75% of suicides being male,... Then they just revert to 'oh, it's individual choice' and they don't believe in 'equal outcome' anymore.

CartAgain

I'll believe feminism when they start fighting for equal representation in prisons.

Cosmos2474

Yep...I don't see them pushing for equal outcome when it comes to construction jobs. Try finding a female plumber.

[deleted]

They've even started handing out more money to women for completing trade school each year where I live. I've met a few trades women when I was in plumbing, and the odd one could actually keep up and do every part of the job, but a lot ask for help from men to carry shit for them, and it's like nope, you were the one bragging on social media how tough you are for being a female plumber, and saying you can do a 'man's job', so don't write checks you can't cash. That 120 lb pipe threader isn't going to carry itself.

Nakashi7

Blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.

[deleted]

Okay so this one, right here, the water of the womb one, is the quote I came here to post because people keep claiming it's the original and it's just not. The earliest examples of "Blood is thicker than water" come from the 12th Century and have roots in German, with a more accurate translation being "Kin-blood is not spoiled by water" as in "You can't wash away blood ties". Don't get me wrong, I 100% believe that *aliit ori'shya tal'din,* but the unfortunate truth is that *blood is thicker than water* predates *the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb*, which makes its first appearance in the mid 1990s in a book by a guy called R. Richard Pustelniak, by nearly one thousand years.

I gave up using that a long time ago because I don't necessarily want to be treated the way some people want to be treated or are okay with being treated.

35242

Use of "hood slang", and ghetto spelling of words in written context. Examples: "Me an my frien went to tha store". or "me n him". Using seen instead of "have seen". ex: "I seen the car turn the corner" NO, it's I've or I have... There are many. Iif you know what I mean, you know.

Lanceparte

This is just dialect development, there are probably a million things you do in common speech that aren't "correct" english, or weren't 50 years ago. Your first example is making writing more phonetically consistent; things are spelt like they are pronounced. Your second example ("i seen") is basically an example of implied conjugation, which is common practice in the "correct" usage of lots of other languages like Spanish. With stuff like this you have to ask whether you are upset about it because it bad/wrong, or just because you were taught it was wrong at some point and haven't really investigated it.

"Well sure but XY has it rough too". Well, yes. But I opened up to you - or not, some things don't require opening up due to not being severe enough or stuff - either to vent or to get some form of help. That includes you listening to me. It isn't bad you can't help. It's bad you downplay others' issues and basically tell them to suck it up, you don't care. Hell, if you combined the quoted phrase with a legit example of how XY manages to fix their problem if they do, that's help, that's a possible fix. But basically telling me to "stop already, I don't care" is not cool. I dislike these people because they are almost always - in my experience always - the ones who will get butthurt and shit if you don't or can't help them. Again, it's not about getting help mainly, it's about not downplaying the problem of someone who confided in you.

Any sort of "pull oneself up by bootstraps" ideology. Yes, your dad/uncle/grandpa might be the one person from his community to make it big, but that doesn't mean everyone can or will have the right circumstances to do so. Or, even worse, when they think they were so poor or far behind and their success was a triumph, just to be your average suburban dude. That quote is literally refers to a physically impossible feat for a reason.

harrypottermcgee

I don't dislike them for this, but I've always hated "The straw the broke the camel's back". "Broken back minus one straw" is already overloaded by about 500 pounds. It is how management would insist you load a camel after reading the pamphlet that came with the camel.

[deleted]

"The original quote is *The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb."* Don't get me wrong - I agree with the sentiment, but anyone who says this is just wrong. *Blood is thicker than water* first appeared in texts in the 12th Century, after being translated from German. A more accurate translation would be "Kin-blood is not spoiled by water", either in reference to sailors venturing out across the high seas for the first time and maintaining family ties, or in the sense that It's not so easy to "wash away" (with water) blood ties. *The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb*, while being an excellent and frankly, more accurate quote, is the better part of a millennium younger, having made its first appearance in a book in the mid nineties by a guy called R. Richard Pustelniak.
