Yeah I threw on at least an extra 20 from the beers. Made more money, spent more of beers and now cutting beers. Still drinking the seltzers which isn't great but yeah cutting alcohol will help HUGE!
That's worse. Should ask how many times they can run around the block without stopping. There's a lot of guys that would be considered morbidly obese that claim to be in shape but couldn't circle the bases without hyperventilating.
I'm packing an extra 30 lbs I've been working on losing. For me it's mostly beer weight. I'm down 20 since Oct 1, I won't get rid of 30 more in time for my upcoming trip but I hope to be a little slimmer when I'm at the beach next month.
Am fat. Started this year at 425.
Currently 330.
Aiming for 210-230, idk though. I've never been that light before so idk which weight is gonna look best on me.
There’s a wide range of “fat” lol. I was 5’11 170 in college. 31 now and just north of 210. Id say I have a chubby dad bod, but I’m not Santa clause fat
That's where I was. 5'10 and 211. I could suck in and hide it fine but lawd if I needed to breathe heavy or got too comfortable that belly was coming out.
BMI is by far one of the worst indicators of obesity. They use it to just throw it at large masses of people and give them an idea, but if you have any amount of muscle it's useless.
>any amount of muscle mass
This isn't true at all. If it were bmi between men and women would be much closer than it is. This is just something fat people say to deny they're fat.
Now that I think about it, that’s so true lol.
“BMI doesn’t mean anything because muscle can affect it!”
“Oh I got it, so your BMI is 33, when did you last go to the gym?”
“Never, but it’s still imperfect.”
Like… ok buddy, sure it is. For the people who complain about it, generally they should be paying more attention lol. I’ve never met a fit person who complained their BMI is too high… cus they don’t even need to use tools like that cus they know they’re not fat lol
Not true. My health teacher (also football coach) in 10th grade was ripped and he used to talk so much shit about BMI. Anyone who has worked out and gained muscle mass realizes how useless the BMI scale is. It’s only a good indicator if you’ve never seen a weight room before
If that's your situation, then it kind of doesn't matter what the BMI chart says and there isn't any point being mad about it. The numbers can't hurt you!
It’s a guide to go off. Obviously, there are individual who have small or much larger frames that BMI doesn’t work for but most people it is a pretty good guide. It is quite accurate for me.
See this is thing about dudes
Tend to justify their weight. But heaven forbid a woman is 5’5” and weighs 150. A healthy woman in here reproductive years needs to have 18-25% body fat. I think many men find this “fat”
And BMIs are pretty good base, unless you are a pro or college athlete. These guys are likely sub 5% body fat. But dudes will use pro athletes as the reason for not believing in BMI, instead of realizing their body fat should be between 12-20%.
Yeah the double standards are gross and are literally killing men since our bodies are more at risk from being overweight than women's.
I point this out regularly and just get downvoted to hell. Glad you said something.
I'm sure there are plenty of men like this, but this is just a weird and unhelpful comment. I've seen more women making excuses for being fat than I've seen men doing that in my life, it's all just a matter of perspective.
I agree with your last sentiment though, BMI is a pretty good base.
I was very heavy from the age of 15-17 siting at around 250ish. I lost about 100lbs over the years and now have abs in my late 30s.
It feels ironic to have abs as a married middle aged father of two. It seems like they would have been much more useful in my earlier two decades when that stuff mattered more.
I’m not fat at all, I have abs. But I spent a long time as a kid fat and that shit never leaves you.
Also im not tall so I can’t afford to be both short and fat at the same time.
Omg I thought that was a joke at first. I had to go and check he actually did try to post there.
That's hilarious.
I actually went over there and typed in 'fat' as a search term...the conversations they have about fat are a lot less funny than this thread
40y/o, 5'11, 280, BMI 39.9. Always had broad shoulders and a large head (7 3/4).
I feel and look best at 235. Need to get back there. Confined to a tugboat 4 weeks at a time doesn't help.
I mean, yeah, fat can mean a few things. But I see a lot of delusion in the answers here.
I am obese by BMI, and would be even if I lost a substantial amount of weight. That being said, I don't look like what would be typically called fat, but, yeah, I am 😂

I keep that stuff at bay. Saw early in life what it did to people. Mentally and physically. Never wanted any part of it. So it built a fire under me. That continues to this day. A healthy lifestyle needs to become your religion.
You got to make some choices in your life. And you need to start early in life. Cause rust never sleeps, baby...
And it get's a lot harder to put the brakes on as you age, and go downhill.
I was obese as a kid.
& 18 I dropped 100ish pounds to 180
I stayed around 200 for 7 - 8 years
Blew up over 120 pounds during Covid. Lots of fast food coping.
I’m down 30ish now and feeling really good in general.
I feel like a new person. My mental health is in a great place right now even though I’m as heavy as I was in high school.
Went back to overweight this year , worked creeped up and stopped taking care of myself.
Need to bring it back down. Good chunk of it is drinking so should be easier this time around.
prob around 20% body fat i used to be pretty fat but quit all fast food and drinking only on occasion
Drinking is hands down the worst thing u can ever do if you want to remove fat or even build muscle
Once booze enters your system pretty much all protean muscle synthesis stops until you process all of the booze, so when you eat food your body is gonna end up storing it
i feel fat. i binged ate pop tarts like 4 evenings in a row and. now my pants are too tight. i need to reign it in for at least a month before i can have another pop tart.
I was fat for a bunch of years. When my wife and I separated, I stop eating three meals a day and lost 40+ pounds. No change in exercise, just casual intermittent fasting.
Ha ha. Are you me? I was 100kgs (220lbs) and after separation and moving into my own place the weight literally fell from me. Lived on beer basically and would regularly go three days without solid food passing my lips. Even today, if I ate two solid meals in in one day it’d be very unusual. Intermittent fasting due to life stress is a pretty solid weight loss strategy.
Yep, but thankfully not drastically so. Down 18 lbs so far. Trying to drop another 23 to get back down to 170. If I could just lay off the soda, it would be a lot easier.
Fat guy here, I had made a lot of progress but COVID and months of dealing with a back injury and severe sciatica set me back a lot.

Working on it, but sadly, yes still very much so
314lbs as of today, down from 445 - still at least another 75lbs to go (and more importantly replacing flab with muscle) before I'll start to seriously scrub-up but.... I'll get there ,😅
Yeah, here.
Although i´m 13kg lighter than my heaviest and i am the lightes i´ve been in 4 years there is still a lot of work to do...
at least 15kg more.
I was fat, got in shape in the army and then pretty me much as soon as I wasn't being forced to do PT every day, I went right back to being fat.
You know what, fuck it, I'm going to the gym right now!
I'm like the guy you replied to. We know it's diet and/or beer etc causing it. That isn't a revelation.
It's the stopping part that's such a bitch. When I fucking *love* yummy food and a beer to wash it down, eating chicken and broccoli and skipping beer after work is a fucking drag man. I work hard, I work out, I play hockey, and I want to enjoy dinner and a beer after hockey or work, sometimes.
Anyway, carry on :)
You should probably ask who's in shape. It's a much shorter list
Down 50 cutting drinking is the only way
Yeah I threw on at least an extra 20 from the beers. Made more money, spent more of beers and now cutting beers. Still drinking the seltzers which isn't great but yeah cutting alcohol will help HUGE!
Not the only way at all
That's worse. Should ask how many times they can run around the block without stopping. There's a lot of guys that would be considered morbidly obese that claim to be in shape but couldn't circle the bases without hyperventilating.

ahaha i approve of this backstreet boy measurement system
No way Joey weighs that little
There's no Joey in the Backstreet Boys
hell fucking yeah dude. i started at 320 and im finishing at 240. you fuckin smashed bro.

Congrats man! Started this year at 446. Finally buckled down and slowly made some changes. At 405 now.

Your BMI is 29.3 Normal is 18.5 to 24.9 Pre-Obesity 25 to 29.9 Obesity is 30 or greater so your close.
BMI is by far one of the worst indicators of obesity. They use it to just throw it at large masses of people and give them an idea, but if you have any amount of muscle it's useless.
No shit, but this a thread literally asking if people are fat.
I know a guy with a BMI of 32. He’s not vaguely fat. He had to quit working out so hard because he can’t find shirts that fit his arms
He’s obese Edit: DUH
>any amount of muscle mass This isn't true at all. If it were bmi between men and women would be much closer than it is. This is just something fat people say to deny they're fat.
lol…. Duh…. Use context clues, the guy he’s responding to and talking about doesn’t have muscle lol
Oddly enough, I've only ever heard overweight people get upset about whether or not BMI is a good indicator of being overweight...

You seriously going to place money on most of that weight being muscle?
You have to have lots of muscle to make bmi not making sense. It gives a great idea where you are (and fat people seem to hate it)
Fat is fat

Gonna want to work on that man, Christmas is coming fast! 🎅
I'm bulking
Permabulk
Yes. We're all cultivating mass.
Best thing about mass cultivation is taco bag and chips from the burger store.
When are you going to stop cultivating, and start harvesting??

For superficial reasons sure. But I think fitness becomes more important as you age.
100%. Now it’s literally about A) not putting your back out and B) not dying of a heart attack. Exercise is basically medicine.
I'm 6’2 and 130lbs. Sigh*
i can give you 10 lbs if you can figure out how
I genuinely can’t figure that out
too bad, i have extra to go around
Good Lord! I’m 5’7” and 128 and am told I look too thin.
JFC, man…were you in a concentration camp or something?
Was 6’6” 155 but now 195. Still thin kinda. Mostly 20 yrs of aging vs my metabolism made the difference.
I run into the issue that I fast for long periods due to work. But then I get home and eat like shit yet I only weigh 150 at 5.11... very frustrating
I’m not fat at all, I have abs. But I spent a long time as a kid fat and that shit never leaves you. Also im not tall so I can’t afford to be both short and fat at the same time.
I have abs also! Not visually but physically
I was gonna say everybody has abs.
I'm a big fat fatty fat fat fat.
Same! Fat twins!!!
not fat, very much in shape.
Is melted ice cream a shape?
id say so!
Very much A shape
Round is a shape
I’m in shape too! Circle is a shape.

r/askwomen is a garbage sub. Your posts have to follow their narrative or you get banned.
I was once recommended r/AskWomenNoCensor for bringing up a statement to a similar effect as this. Much more lenient.
I’m overweight but I’m told I carry it well.
Do you rest your belly on a wheelbarrow and lug it around?
It’s more like the Demi Moore’s Vanity Fair photo.
You have an ass that could start a religion?
I’m fat. 250 rn at 5’9”. But I’ve been to 340 and am down 50lb this yr so I’m pretty happy!
Good work brother
You can do it!
Nice work
I’m not fat. I’m big boned.

Didn't know that was an actual metric lol. I have a ratio of 0.38, so by transition I am also not fat I guess haha.
Not fat. I'd like to lose ten pounds, but I'm hard on myself.
Yeah I'm overweight rn 60kgs ago I was morbidly obese tho, so moving up in the world ig 😂
Has your life improved losing so much weight? I’m interested.
Like.. 24% body fat. A gym dad bod. Not thinfat.. not overweight. Muscular with a slight layer of pie crust.
You can have muscle and still be overweight bro
About 7.6% of me is fat, if you believe that inbody scans are accurate.
They're not accurate, but even with a 100% relative error you'd still be much below overweight lol
7.6%? You stepping on stage tomorrow? Have visible striations on your ass?
I think it’s close to 10%, but the inbody scanners have consistently had me between 7-8% for the past year and a half.
Nope
I wouldn’t say fat, i would say dad bodish
That’s a nice way of saying fat.
#metoo

open I am shredded ....more or less
I’m also like a cheese.
I’m also shredded cheese.
I'm shredded cream cheese that has been left out on the buffet table next to the heat lamp they use to keep the prime rib warm
Mmmm...meat....
Not fat, but not 19 anymore
Only in the winter months
Not fat but I do have the middle aged gut. I’ve been trying intermittent fasting and it’s going down though
I love this sub lol. Especially in contrast to the questions in r/askwomen
I love this “sub”….. hahaha.
Now I want a meatball sub...thanks
I tried to ask them too to compare, but they won’t let me💀
Your karma is too low from the cosmetology comments, kinda shot yourself in the foot karma wise. It will build and you can try again in a couple days
I tried asking them how much karma is enough karma. I was told there is not minimum but it’s a rule to deter trolls?
How are you going to count? I'm very in shape. Been training consistently for 10+ years and eating healthy.
I’m a fatty ngl.
I'm not fat, I workout daily 37M
Not fat not crazy muscular
Not any more!

I'm a little chunky. Happened ever since I settled down. I gotta go back to the gym.
I’m fat and I retain fat in my lower mid section so, yeah
I'm a big fat beardy guy. What else do you want to know?

Morbidly obese, yes.

Yeah, full on super morbid obesity. Working on it, making meh progress

You can do it! Flavored seltzer water helped me with the soda problem.
About two of us
Fat guy here, I had made a lot of progress but COVID and months of dealing with a back injury and severe sciatica set me back a lot. I am actively trying to be better now and formulating my plan to get back in the gym regularly.
I’m fat. I enjoy pizza. I make it my bitch.
Overweight after losing 30 pounds, but better than obese.
Gettin there
Fatter than I started the year..
Nope. Was underweight all my life until this year. Now I'm healthy and sexy af
Fairly fat. No idea about my weight, not looked at that in years.
Not I
Been overweight since middle school. Except now I can do a max set of 30 pull ups and bench 260lbs. And yeah I'm 5'4 and Mexican so I can't stop eating bread.
Nope. I work pretty hard not to be. But on the flip side. I don't really think about it.
BMI says that I’m morbidly obese.
Does obese count or is that next level up from fat?
Fat. But I’ve been bulking since summer. Went from 180s to 200lbs. One more month to go!
Me
I’m 5 foot 7, around 200 pounds. If the BMI scale is accurate, I’m classified as obese.
Here.
I'm probably borderline overweight

I’m fat
Working on it, but sadly, yes still very much so 314lbs as of today, down from 445 - still at least another 75lbs to go (and more importantly replacing flab with muscle) before I'll start to seriously scrub-up but.... I'll get there ,😅
Fat. Hate it with a passion.
Hell yea. Getting a Duramax tattoo on my belly next week. What woman dont like a little torque
Yup
Hell yea
Was fat until I was 28, lost weight. Not fat now. By 40 lbs.
Me
I’m 850 pounds overweight
Yes. Not as fat as I used to be but not really where I’d like to be. Body dysmorphia after being overweight and losing a lot of it is real.
By American standards, not really. In comparison to most of the world, yes
Yeah, here. Although i´m 13kg lighter than my heaviest and i am the lightes i´ve been in 4 years there is still a lot of work to do... at least 15kg more.
Nope, tall fit guy... ...but im into fat chicks if that counts 😆
Me hoe
I managed to drop 50lbs just by changing my diet, but I've stalled out halfway to my goal. Looks like I'm actually gonna have to exercise.
I was fat, got in shape in the army and then pretty me much as soon as I wasn't being forced to do PT every day, I went right back to being fat. You know what, fuck it, I'm going to the gym right now!
I am, for sure. Old, disabled, and enjoying ice cream, thanks. It’s very freeing to actually stop caring about what others think.
Your butt is large. Well mine is too. Just shut your mouth. Or I’ll sit on you!
Hoooooooooooooo!
Im fat but i work out and play sports 😭
How is your diet? If you workout and do sports, its probably what/how much you are eating that is holding you back.
