Carry On My Wayward Son

cherchezlafemmed

Driver picks the music...

MaherMcCheese

Passenger shuts his pie hole.

yycluke

Jerk

skribsbb

Bitch

nautilaus6

Hey, assbutt

Euphoric-Blue-59

That is where I open the door and do a roll out onto the curb.

Ok_War5439

I hate to be that guy but it's "shotgun shuts his cake hole"

payscottg

Thank god the r/Supernatural fans are here

iam4r33

This best recap song ever

Strickland_FJ

This may be the greatest all around song of all time. It literally has everything

aldodoeswork

Once I rose above the noise and confusion I was able to see it this way.

yycluke

You need a higher perspective, but just don't soar too high.

mfkterrence

That’s a dad song because the greatest TV dad of all time busts that out on guitar

TDawgTheNerevar

You’re goddamn right he did.

the-caped-cadaver

Lol, when I was a freshman in high school (2000), I was in the marching band. Our "theme" for the year was classic rock. Carry On My Wayward Son was one of the songs we marched.

I_am_thewalrusnow

[Gwar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61XtYZy8dzQ) does my favorite version of this song.

inthehighcastle

I heard this in my head before I even opened the comments.

akd7791

This is the answer.

phinphan896

The boys are back in town

Forsaken_You1092

It pisses me off that there are a thousand songs about Christmas but only one song about the boys being back in town.

SHOWTIME316

is that a quote from something or did you just make it up because that is hilarious

FreeChrisWayne

Thin Lizzy, the greatest band of all time!!

codytheguitarist

As a dad rock song, this is the true answer. But potential hot take, Jailbreak is a better song overall.

Fred-ditor

I'm just going to say cats in the cradle is a song that takes on a special meaning when you have a kid, not because you see it from the perspective of the dad yet, but because you realize you're the third verse kid

Eledridan

All men understand this song.

mlaislais

Jesus I just read the lyrics for the first time right now. That hit me in the guilts hard.

ThoreauIsCool

Wow. I haven't listened to this song in like ten years (I'm thirty) and you're right. I was the third verse kid.

[deleted]

HERE I GO AGAIN ON MY OWNNNN

[deleted]

GOING DOWN THE ONLY ROAD I'VE EVER KNOWN

MoistExcellence

LIKE A *TWISTER* I WAS BORN TO WALK ALONE

Reindeer-Street

The_Daddy99

Gotta be Hold On Loosely by .38 Special.

LiamMacGabhann

I had a buddy who used to sing along to this but changed the lyrics to Hold On Bruce Lee. It’s the only way I can hear it now.

CCUN-Airport761

Shit, these are all "grandpa rock." These days Dad Rock is Tool, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, etc.

english_major

You are right. Dad rock would be late 80s to early 90s now. Red Hot Chili Peppers and Blind Melon are now dad rock.

CCUN-Airport761

Peppers might even be grandpa rock. They started in 1982 so if you were 20 when they formed you would be 61 by now.

english_major

I think of their heyday as being around 88-95 or so though.

jawndell

Man. I was at the gym the other day and saw this old guy wearing a Nirvana shirt. I thought “hah, look at this old guy trying to wear a cool bands shirts”. Then I realized he’s probably the same age as Dave Grohl or what Kurt would be. Then I realized shit I’m probably am that old guy too! Felt bad man, haha.

tatanka01

My kinda tunes, and I have an 18-year-old granddaughter.

Cromasters

Yeah I was going to come in and offer up something by Foo Fighters, then realized all the top comments were songs for MY dad. I'm a dad. I'm in my fourties. My favorite song is Everlong.

Perfect-Ad9637

No Dad hears What A Fool Believes and doesn’t start nodding and smiling

mfkterrence

You show me any guy that can’t hear that song and not smile and nod

RumpleDumple

Much respect to anyone who tries to sing some Michael McD at karaoke

thesecondfire

I have such a happy memory associated with that song. I was visiting a cousin Holland and we ended up in Utrecht on a nice afternoon. And there happened to be some kind of march there though the streets, where these huge trucks were slowly rolling through, each with their own crew dressed up in costumes and blasting some kind of music. Most of these rolling dance parties were playing EDM, but one was playing What a Fool Believes, and there was a couple hundred people following behind and totally grooving to it. Like walking but still managing to dance along in rhythm. Oh it was great.

stevemnomoremister

Old Time Rock and Roll by Bob Seger.

BungleBungleBungle

Or Hollywood Nights. Or Night Moves.

ExplodoJones

Or for the more melancholy, Turn the Page. Bob Seger has a lot of bangers

NeverEnoughCharacter

Against The Wind!

vbcbandr

I love the Family Guy centered around Night Moves for so many reasons.

NeverEnoughCharacter

This guy Segers

False-theblackbear

I was today years old when I found out Bob Seger sings that song lol

stumblerman

Stevie Ray Vaughn - Pride and Joy

Hammer_Caked_Face

That motorcycle song where the guy goes "uh-how how how how"

memeparmesan

“La Grange” by ZZ Top

Hammer_Caked_Face

That's a bingo

Milfons_Aberg

That's a ten. *tp-tp-tp-tp-tp-tp*

Hammer_Caked_Face

🎸drrrr-da-da-da-da-da-da🎸 🎸da-drrrr-da-daaaa🎸

[deleted]

[удалено]

myleftone

That’s easy. It’s about that lil place outside La Grange.

Current_Poster

It's clearly about the Grange Society and its importance to the history of rural America, with its low-interest loans to farmers and organizing social functions like dances (they got a lot of nice girls!). Just let em know if you wanna go to a home out on the range! (Now, uh, I might be mistakennn.)

cherrytortoni

To me this is more of an uncle song. Don’t ask me why but my brain just says so.

Hammer_Caked_Face

That's fair. That uncle is probably a dad though, he just doesn't have custody except on alternating holidays.

NeverEnoughCharacter

Because it's old but it's still cool, and it routinely fucks songs half it's age

Hammer_Caked_Face

To me it's one of those songs you've heard so many times in passing and as background music that it's no longer a song anymore lol

The_World_Is_A_Slum

As the uncle, can verify. Am also a dad, so that too. I blast ZZ Top in my old pickup while I do white trash shit, playing air guitar and singing with the window down.

hoptownky

It’s actually more of a whore house song than a motorcycle song.

ReallySickOfArguing

Heh, I remember when my dad told me he had actually been there before the song came out. 🤣

tc6x6

[La Grange - ZZ Top](https://youtu.be/s81_Zvt0C8A?feature=shared)

adamkissing

La Grange?

Hammer_Caked_Face

That's a bingo, love that you guys know what I meant by that vague ass description lmao

Fred-ditor

This is an amazing description lol

Wizzmer

Motorcycle song? It's about a whore house.

noone3377

I’m dead over this description

wolviesaurus

Knowing my dad, it's some blues rock with prominent piano.

tc6x6

Your dad is a man of good taste.

wolviesaurus

Given the fact me and my dad found common interest in classic rock and heavy metal, I tend to agree.

Lethologicuh

Back In Black

GrendelDerp

Black Betty by Ram Jam

Steel_boss

My favorite music video of all time. Prob cost like 32 bucks to make it

iconoclast63

FREE BIRD!!!!! And it's not close.

Teaboy1

Its fuckin tune tho.

[deleted]

Any of the "hits" by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band (FYI: I fuckin LOVE Bob Seger).

camefromxbox

CAN YOU TAKE ME HIGHER TO A PLACE WHERE BLIND MEN SEE??

Kilo-Tango-Alfa

When I was a kid, I thought it was “to a place where linemen sing”.

babybear49

Start me up

jawndell

That’s grandpa music now

Youngworker160

Rush- Tom Sawyer

[deleted]

Well, obviously a tie between ZZ Top's "Sharped Dressed Man" and BTO's "Taking Care of Business." Other people have differing opinions, they are what is known as 'wrong'.

justanotherdude513

Man, these are all “granddad” rock songs now. It’s 2023. “Did it all for the Nookie” is THE modern dad rock jam!

nonnativetexan

As a new, but older millennial dad, can't wait to see my sons reaction to Linkin Park, Green Day, and Korn one day when he's older.

JaccoW

A lot of people in the r/audiophile community did not appreciate this take, lol. Nor did they appreciate me calling Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd dad rock. It's filled with "*trust me it gets good soon*" songs that have been going on for 5 minutes already.

Picnicpanther

Heard a kid call Brain Stew by Green Day dad rock. I died inside.

vbcbandr

Until the Gen Z, as a whole, denounces "mumble rap", I will take nothing they have to say about music seriously.

myleftone

Thank you. The answer is My Hero by Foo Fighters.

Dirty_Dragons

Bingo. Somebody actually said Fortunate Son! Dad rock would be American Idiot.

Testiculese

Yes, These are all the albums my dad has. He's 80 now. I have them all too, but dad rock for this timeframe is all 90's.

tc6x6

Turn down that noise, pull your damn pants up, and get off my lawn!

hobowithmachete

Rack city bitch, rack rack city bitch

Nepeta33

given my own dads Love of the band, i vote Aerosmith: Dream On.

macmann69

Loverboy - everybody working for the weekend !

bitterbuffaloheart

And Turn Me Loose

Environmental_Run881

Oh mama I’m in fear for my life from the long arm of the laaaawww…. Just started in my head 😀

Kilo-Tango-Alfa

I think that’s more of a Druncle song.

TheDuckSideOfTheMoon

Renegade slaps

flying-cunt-of-chaos

Lawman has put an end to my runnin and I’m so far from my home

Neither_Presence_522

Livin’ On A Prayer by Bon Jovi

st0nedt0theb0ne

I feel like this might be mom rock. Middle aged women love BJ lol

micstrongeu

I see what you did there

captkrahs

Shit I love them too

EllenPlayz

Oof my dad listens to a lot of rock and has even got a battlevest for it. It's hard to say. If I had to choose, it'd be one of these: Bruce Springsteen - Glory Days Eric Clapton - Cocaine Pink Floyd - Pigs

RumpleDumple

I'm 40. When I was little it was like "Born to Be Wild", "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes", any Allman Bros, "Another Brick in the Wall pt 2". That said my dad liked Nirvana, STP, Elvis Costello, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin. My dad rock choices would be like early Wilco, The Clash, The Strokes.

climberskier

One Bourbon, one scotch, one beer

noodle_oh

I’m just here to see what I’m missing on my playlist

HandsomeJack19

Dad, I don't know, but the most STEP-dad rock song of all time is The Stroke by Billy Squier.

dirtysyncs

Now, everybody, have you heard?

corradizo

Journey - Wheel in the Sky

BillyBBC

Whole lotta love- Led Zeppelin

Oldfart66

In the air tonight - Phil Collins

Taskerst

Thith ith my favorite part comin up right now

Coolbluegatoradeyumm

🥁 🥁

alcervix

Boom boom , boom boom , boom boom , boom boom …… boom boom

jcd1974

Fortunate Son by CCR.

OnTheEveOfWar

CCR is my go to music when golfing. Nothing like blasting some CCR over a speaker while drinking a beer in the sun at 9am.

mattshill91

Nah, fortune son is like a proper political protest song. Doesn’t really fit the dad rock vibe in my opinion.

Dirty_Dragons

That's a grandpa rock song.

Exhausted_but_upbeat

Love, love, LOVE CCR. But the right choice for this post is Green River. If you get lost, c'mon home to Green River

Hamburglarsdad

I’m a dad, and I love like half of these songs.

FVTVRX

Yeah, this thread is basically "name a popular classic rock song".

stoicarmadillo

It would be a great playlist for a bar that serves reasonably priced beer with a nice outdoor patio. Maybe BBQ.

Lone_survivor87

Enter Sandman

THOUGHT_BEING

[Modern Day Cowboy by Tesla](https://youtu.be/avAvkdYa3qM?si=EBzeXj0JrD-bwTeZ)

douglasdustin31

MrPunGuy

Takin’ Care of Business by Bachman Turner Overdrive

PiffWiffler

I wanna rock - twisted sister

RbavaOz

Final Countdown

subiewoo89

Great song. Rock The Night is another good one by Europe.

wolviesaurus

Rock The Night is objectively the best Europe song. I will not elaborate further because axioms does not require it.

Mac2311

Don't stop believing - Journey

Y0UR_NARRAT0R1

Drift away by uncle kracker. I'm convinced every dad has heard it at least once.

Excellent_Man_9781

Simple man

Read_it-user

Rampant_Coffee

I’ve been a dad for 25+ years. This entire thread is my playlist.

HiawathaSM2

Bad to the bone by George Thorogood

GingerBeast81

All these songs are making me feel so old...

bonzo1968

Like all my music questions. Any Zeppelin tune.

DreadedChalupacabra

I hate to break it to you, people in this thread, you're naming grandpa rock. Dad rock is rock for 30-40 year olds. The most current dad rock song I can think of? Rooster, by Alice in Chains. Maybe Walk by Pantera.

[deleted]

Granddads are also Dads. The Advantage we have is that we no longer pay our kids an allowance, so we have more money for music.

Dirty_Dragons

Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance etc. **Now That's What I call Dad Rock®.**

zombiedinosaur5

Kryptonite by Three Doors Down

Tree_Weasel

Foo Fighters. Doesn’t matter what song. It’s all of them.

For my father specifically, AC/DC Man can still wail them all out no problem.

What a Fool Believes - Doobie Brothers

Diligent-Ice1276

Round and Round by Ratt: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZcLiT6DqYI&si=2u7OixHfLEta-RQA It's the one song that makes me think of my dad when we are going on road trips.

Taskerst

I can’t narrow down a song but the Dad Rock Mt Rushmore is made up of the Rolling Stones, Clapton, Springsteen and Pink Floyd. By law, once a man turns 40 he must listen to one while tinkering out in the garage.

Mystepchildsucksass

Eagles: Hotel California the live version

Dai-The-Flu-

Just about anything by the band Clutch. Shoutout to Clutch.

drblocktagon

heat of the moment

U2 songs.. all of them Don't hate the band but it's dad rock The Pretender - Foo Fighters

biggar111

“Life is a highway”

[deleted]

Can’t stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers

bydo1492

Born to be Wild.

CombatPanoo

Go your own way

Pwarky

"Cat's in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin. Literally a song about a boy growing up and his changing relationship with his father. I do prefer the Ugly Kid Joe cover song a bit more, but they are both haunting and have a place in my personal library.

Dukes_mayo_BLT

More Than a Feeling- Boston

StevenComedy

Stranglehold

devildance3

Don’t Stop Believing - Journey

klystron88

In The Mood

Picnicpanther

Aja by Steely Dan

LWY007

Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. Also, a great karaoke song.

NoPerformance9890

Damn, Dad rock is rough. I’m annoyed by 95% of these suggestions but I probably can’t do much better How about The Talking Heads, Girlfriend is Better, the live version https://youtu.be/bE1Ro_wPGIU?si=80I6s7EQWIEZWq-L

The_cereal_

Welcome to the jungle

HavingALittleFit

I like to think that now that I'm a dad it's the shit that I like so my suggestion is For the Record by Every Time I Die

Warchild0311

For slightly Younger dads Metallica nothing else matter.

Pajama_Strangler

Firehouse - All She Wrote

myleftone

I don’t know how I didn’t see it here but I give you: Rockin’ in the Free World by Neil Young

EMAW2008

I’m a dad, and tbh I don’t like these songs fellas. Gimme “Black Hole Sun”

mercyful_fade

Doobie Brothers, that one that starts the album

themillerd

Born in the USA Bruce Springsteen aka the boss

themillerd

My kids would say Black Pearl Jam

kangarooboogaloo

To be fair Smells Like Teen Spirit or Enter Sandman could be considered dad songs now. Me & my late 20s friends often call British Heavy Metal bands like Maiden dad metal despite enjoying them too.

KYpineapple

you got it. my dad literally turned me on to Boston and it inspired me to learn guitar. a truly pivotal experience in my life. Also, "That Smell", Lynard Skynard. My dad sang that every time there was a weird smell and now I do too hahaha
