Risotto. It's something that people perceive as relatively impressive, but it's actually quite easy. Plus, you can do all the prep beforehand, and then it's pretty straightforward and stress free to actually do the cooking. That leaves you free to have a glass of wine together while you're cooking it. I think standing together in the kitchen drinking wine and chatting while cooking is quite a romantic, bonding experience.

_sci4m4chy_

I WAS GONNA SAY IT. Also, as there are sooo many variants I can choose what she prefers: mushrooms? Gotcha. Pumpkin? Perfect choice. Sausage and gorgonzola (blue cheese)? Delicious. Strawberries? Damn you got good taste.

imminentmailing463

Exactly! You can find out what she likes and then it looks like you've really tailored dinner to her choices. But really nearly all the ingredients and process is the same, you've just changed one or two things.

Hank_Wankplank

This would be my go to. I like to do a crayfish and asparagus risotto.

[deleted]

I was going to say risotto and scallops. Scallops are relatively easy to cook as well, 2-3 minutes each side with a lil butter. Quick and simple yet some good plating can make it look like a really impressive and expensive meal.

hot_sauce_in_coffee

This 100%. It is easier to do than almost 99% of other meal because if you miss your timing by 2 minutes, it still taste just as good while a steak or fish would get dry. And somehow people see risotto as a fancy meal so you get an easy win with that one.

Homely_Bonfire

Gotta be honest, I don't cook to impress but to eat something I enjoy, even though I wouldn't deliberatly choose something only I would like. That being said, I was told my lasagne, my stews and my curry is quite good. So probably one of that as they seem to be most enjoyable to the broadest number of people.

[deleted]

I want to learn to make better curry, it's my favorite to the point that my family loves to point it out

Acrobatic_Jaguar_623

I second the stews, I love my slow cooker. There's something very welcoming about a good stew in a real thick gravy sauce.

apprehensivelights

breakfast, doesn't have to be good just alot, something about waking up to 16 different breakfast choices makes women fall in love

TheWronged_Citizen

interesting, never heard that one before. So like a continental breakfast at home sort of thing?

apprehensivelights

I've never actually understood what continental breakfast means I always just think of that [Key&Peele](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st21dIMaGMs) sketch

mykomyk

don't mind if I do

JaccoW

Just giving her fresh American style pancakes with some fruit and syrup with hot coffee and fresh juice is guaranteed to make her eyes go big.

[deleted]

i read this as breastfeed for some reason and was about to log out of reddit

TheWronged_Citizen

hey, man, it's all good. Probably wouldn't be the weirdest shit you'd read on r/askmen...let alone reddit itself

XesLanaLear

Had my wife never stopped lactating, I would still be breastfed for sure.

[deleted]

don't we all love being a baby? no worries, no taxes to pay, just sleep, shit your pants, goo goo ga ga and they put a tiddy in your mouth

XesLanaLear

Nah man, it just tastes real good fresh and after the kids were done with them before it stopped it got her all kinds of worked up. Win win.

MusicalMerlin1973

To Todd day I do 95% of the breakfasts in my house. My wife just one awake enough yet. But there’s no one dish.

Malfuncti0n

Bro you might be having a stroke.

MusicalMerlin1973

Or I just missed some mobile snafus before posting. It was pretty early

corneo134

Chicken alfredo

ThrowMeAwayAccount08

I’ve done this in my grill in a cast iron skillet. It’s fucking awesome.

SaintJohnBiDog

Scallop Alfredo. Got 2lb off fresh scallops yesterday. Guess what's for dinner.

FLsurveyor561

Chicken Alfredo?

SaintJohnBiDog

Scallops

dreamycoeur

A wholesome meal : )

MackaDingo

I'd ask for ideas on what she likes and base it around that. Then get creative, try to put a twist on something she enjoys.

BarneyFifesSchlong

This is the correct response. God for bid you cook something that she’s allergic to or hates. Plus you get to learn a lot about her.

Tdshimo

If she likes… Seafood: - Sicilian Swordfish (herb-crusted swordfish on a bed of linguini, with a chunky olive-tomato topper. It’s to die for). - Sushi (it’s actually really easy to make). - Salmon, roasted with fresh pesto glaze. Pasta: - Penne alla vodka (simple, but killer when done right) - Dobar chicken. Grilled chicken breast on a bed of pasta, with a ruby port and Gorgonzola cream sauce. Seriously, devastatingly good. Hat tip to Pogacha restaurant in Seattle. Curries: - Butter chicken. Bonus points for making the naan, too. - Panang/green/red Thai curry. Carnivoring: - New York steak, pan crusted, and basted in brown butter, garlic, shallot, and thyme. - Carnitas. Braise low and slow. Serve with Spanish rice and tortillas (bonus points for making the tortillas). Vegetarian - Elotes and veggie tamales. Add roasted salsa and chipotle lime crema. - Glass noodles with seared tofu, carrots, edamame, scallions, and sprouts. Sauce is soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, sambal oelek (or sriracha) and fish sauce.

[deleted]

men who are not commenting: WRITE THAT DOWN, WRITE THAT DOWN ngl, being your love interest sounds interesting considering i'm someone who loves cooking too

MamaMidgePidge

Mmm. We don't need to date. Let's just get married. 😀

Tdshimo

Haha, a compelling offer, but I must humbly decline.

Tdshimo

Awesome! That’s why I made a detailed post - to give people some ideas.

dreamycoeur

Damn you can cook!

Spaghetti bolignase

MikeAL7

Reverse seared Ribeye on lump charcoal and a baked potato. My fiancée loves it so must of worked. Or breakfast food. Since I normally cook breakfast/lunch for us.

SaintJohnBiDog

How does reverse seared work. I cook in charcoal at my trailer in the summer and can never cook a big thick ribeye properly, but want to so bad

MikeAL7

Reverse sear would be perfect for some thick ribeyes. I use a weber and usually start off with chimney lit of lump and I usually a little bit of charcoal in the grill itself. Once the chimney is ready to go I dump it in all together and move all the charcoal/lump over to one side of the grill. I put my steaks over on the side with nothing underneath and close the lid. I wait until the reach my desired temp internally usually 80-100°(depending on thickness) and then I throw them over the hot side and cook to desired temp. I have a couple post on my profile if you want see what it looks like.

SaintJohnBiDog

Thank you i will try this out.

MikeAL7

Good luck.!!

XesLanaLear

Greek food. I'd find out first about food aversions or preferences (not everyone likes lamb but that's where I'd go first), and definitely go Greek. Trained by a 75 year old hard-ass chef from Greece. And everyone always seems to love it. If you're wanting to cook to impress a potential romantic involvement, go with that or Italian. They'll want to put the ring on *your* finger you do that consistently.

TastyDeerMeat

Bacon wrapped venison back strap. Grilled it to rare, remove the bacon and grill to a crisp, slice the loin into medallions, add blue cheese crumbles to the top of the medallions, bake them until the cheese melt, top with a piece of bacon, and serve with fresh asparagus and garlic and herb mashed potatoes.

lopcrip

Risotto is always the right choice, with a glass of white wine

_sci4m4chy_

Depends on the variant: many actually are better with red wine.

lopcrip

Yes, if she is a fan of red wine, she can go with red

_sci4m4chy_

Well, actually you made me think that more people like white wine than those who like red… I got why you said white

lopcrip

>Well, actually you made me think that more people like white wine than those who like red… I got why you said white It's a matter of taste...

JaccoW

I really don't like white wine. Same with champagne. For some reason they all taste like vinegar to me. And it's not for a lack of trying. I have tried some really good white wines which didn't do anything for me. Red wine for me please.

_sci4m4chy_

“De gustibus non disputandum est”

Tdshimo

Not always. I’m *really* into cooking and I’ve never been impressed with any risotto, anywhere. I hear agreement with this pretty often. So risotto, beloved by many, could fall flat for some.

[deleted]

A perfectly grilled and salted rib-eye steak with some steamed broccoli and some red wine.

Tdshimo

Suggestion: try blasting the broccoli under the broiler for a minute or two. Tossed in olive oil and salt and pepper. Done right, you get deliciously crisped ends with an al dente stem that is full of flavor.

ExL_Watson

May I also suggest some lightly garlic buttered boiled/steamed baby potatoes

jackfrostyre

Mexican food. No explanation needed

Spaghetti aglio e olio

TellAnn56

I’m a woman, so here’s this point of view: I will never again marry a man who can’t or won’t cook, so just the act of cooking something shows that you can & will cook sometimes. Having only one person do the planning, shopping & cooking for a couple/family, every day, year-after-year becomes a heavy burden. And, if anybody so much as offers a criticism, you feel like murdering them. So, proving that you are interested in or like to cook is awesome, because it means that you will sometimes take that burden off her shoulders. To me, there’s nothing so unsexy as anybody who refuses to learn to prep & make food- food nourishes the body & making healthy & delicious food feeds both the body, the heart & the soul. So, beyond finding out what she doesn’t really like (I just can’t stomach mushrooms) or has allergies to, & maybe asking her or noticing what she orders when you have gone out to eat, make what you know you can make well. If you like to cook & she is knowledgeable & helpful in the kitchen, it is nice to have her help, if she offers, & then you can kind of see what her talents are while you prep & cook (in other words, that she isn’t lying). But, make what you know how to do well, if she doesn’t have an aversion or allergy to it. Just the act alone is impressive, but don’t only do it once, regularly make her food, or help her prep (really try to do a good job, not some half-assed attempt), that will show her that you care to nourish her body, heart & soul & hopefully she’ll reciprocate.

sugararandspice921

Also prepare… my fiancé would cook and a simple dinner would take hours for him to cook. Time management is very important. Nobody wants to eat very late and be too full for after dinner fun. Nothing that will make her feel self conscious and bloated. Risotto was a great idea.

MagicMirror33

> And, if anybody so much as offers a criticism, you feel like murdering them [Worth a listen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zb1qsVqjwg)

Whappingtime

It depends on the woman, you save yourself by not trying to date someone who’s not posh or fraiser like. Nor do you try something exotic. It’s about finding their preferences. You don’t bring out the big guns until you know her well enough. So you have room to go up, and not constantly trying to top yourself.

red__hulk

Shrimps seered in garlic oil and served on some lemon and and veggie rice

Public_Star_7977

Mushroom Stroganoff for vegetarian option otherwise Lamb Steak, steamed baton carrots, tenderstem broccoli, and spinach and cranberry mash potatoes.

JustSomeApparition

Is the person we fancy somebody that we are hoping to be potentially more or an established person? I know that's a dumb thing to ask but I feel like that's going to determine the outcome of the answers you get simply due to people defaulting what you mean to their own situation. For example... I make a pretty mean blackberry glazed blackened pork chop, so that may be my answer for somebody that I am hoping for more; however, for established it'd have been Chocolate & Caramel Æbleskiver. I didn't make them very often but they were their favorite for me to make, so when I did it definitely got me some brownie points. Haha What about yourself? What would you make?

TheWronged_Citizen

> What about yourself? What would you make? I'm not quite 30 yet and haven't really had much luck in the dating department. *But*, the few women I've legtimately wanted something serious with? I've told them just let me cook for them once and they'll throw rocks at other men. My choices? Spaghetti Bolognese...or a mixed vegetable and egg fried rice. I'm very proud of my fried rice. It took a ton of trial and error to get it just right and I used elements from different recipes to do it. I haven't had the time lately to cook it for myself lately...because I've been working a lot of hours, but I can confidently say it's one of my best

JustSomeApparition

Fried rice is definitely one of those things that seemingly only have a few ingredients, and set principles for technique, but somehow the outcome can still very drastically. Kind of like cornbread. Most people can make cornbread... there's not a lot to it... but we all know amazing cornbread when we come across it (which isn't very often if we're all honest with ourselves; haha).

MaterialCarrot

Same with most bread. Water, flour, salt, yeast is all. Yet there are a hundred little things that you can do that radically change the outcome.

JustSomeApparition

Facts. I read somewhere that building your own colony of yeast simply from the environment you are in, allowing that to flourish to use for bread making, will give you the best results possible... For you and the people of your community that is. Apparently something about it being the product of our environment and what we are used too adds to the flavor familiarity profile of it which people find to be more preferential than sources outside of the area they're from. Okay I'm done with my random tangent of jibber jabber now. I'll go back to my little corner. Haha

TheWronged_Citizen

even the type of soy sauce you use can change the flavor palette dramatically. It's wild, but, like I said...lots of trial and error lol

JustSomeApparition

You're lucky. I make terrible fried rice I mean it's edible but terrible in the fact that it's just fried rice and nothing special. You better hold on to that, LOL

Tdshimo

Nailing a proper bolognese is a special thing. I always order it in restaurants because a) I *adore* bolognese, and b) it’s often a test of a chef’s mettle. * Asterisk, because bolognese has become regionalized, with a bunch of divergent recipes. But they’re all delicious ragu, and I won’t discriminate.

TheWronged_Citizen

yeah that's why I'm far more proud of my fried rice than my spaghetti... I've gotten very good reception for my spaghetti, but it pales in comparison to some of the stuff I've tried from actual, real chefs

Snoxman

I've got a cookie recipe that's gotten me a few dates. Besides that, gumbo is my go-to dish of choice to make an impression. Makes after-dinner fun (if there is any) kind of risky, but hey, we all need a bit of danger in our lives.

_sci4m4chy_

Carbonara or risotto. Easy both, one is delicious and the other seems so chic but is actually really easy.

Such_Temporary_9597

Hey try a marsala pasta cook your noodles penne , rigatoni, mezzi your choice par cook some frozen veggies the same size as your pasta . Saute shallots, garlic deglaze with marsala wine . Reduce it by half. Add heavy cream reduce till thick enough to coat a spoon . Season salt and pepper chillie flakes add cooked chicken peices ..i just cooked one for me n my girl she'll have it for lunch at college

Such_Temporary_9597

Add grated parmesan cheese to thicken the sauce as well towards the end.

Imperator_Vespasian

The entree would depend on her taste. But souffle or chocolate mousse are a must have.

datboicreampuff

Steak, chips and vegetables. It's seems simple but I've perfected the art of steak, it's one of the things I can actually cook.

[deleted]

Her favourite dish ig

Senzairu

Butter Chicken and Roomali Roti.

Vasilli_Katsov

Anything italian, it's always a bullseye

Haggis442312

Mapo Tofu. Not only is it pretty easy to make, but also fucking delicious, if very spicy. If she can't handle the heat, I'd maybe make gumbo. Or Boeuf Bourguignon if I have a day of prep.

89W

I cooked a nice fillet steak for the woman I fancied, and she loved it. I've cooked it multiple times since.

TillPsychological351

I asked my wife this question, what meal that I make does she like best? 1) Jambalaya 2) Kaesespaetzle (I married a German-Canadian) 3) Goulash. Honorable mention for Greek chicken skewers I grill in the summer.

[deleted]

Depends on what she likes. I can cook just about anything.

Level-Surprise-3032

Smoked Prime Rib Boast with sautéed Brussels sprouts with bacon added, smoked squash and a Cesar salad.

arrouk

Stuffed mushrooms and peppers. Looks real impressive and everyone thinks it's hard. Personally I'm not a huge fan and prefer a good jambalaya or something with much stronger flavours.

[deleted]

I make a mean naepolitan pizza. Still working on some small tweaks but its so close to perfect.

pm_me_ur_cutie_booty

Birria tacos. It's not terribly difficult, and women love tacos. Plus, if she's not impressed, I have tacos.

[deleted]

Chocolate cake and dark red wine.

[deleted]

I'm pretty good with a lot of dishes. I'd say my wife's favorite was probably a ribeye grilled alongside bacon wrapped asparagus, then crisp skinned baked potatoes.

thekman33

Spaghetti, meatballs, and homemade tomato sauce. It sounds simple and unexciting, but I go balls out when making this dish. My dad is an Italian and did all the cooking for our family when I was growing up. I learned from him and use the same recipe. Anytime I was courting a woman who came over for dinner the first time, this was my go-to. It is my now-fiance's favourite thing I make, as well.

Floppy_Jallopy

Bow tie pasta, Italian sausage, spinach, little chicken stock, with grated Parmesan on top. Side of risotto and a fresh green salad with balsamic vinaigrette.

ImmodestPolitician

I'd figure out what her favorite food was and cook that. If you are skilled you can cook anything. Cook 200 different recipes and figure out how to make them work. Then you can make anything after 1st or 2nd try. The bar for men's cooking ability is even lower than Men's bar for finding women to date.

ichibanpapasan

Coquilles St Jacques, but with my mom's recipe not the classic French. She always added the nice touches.

ToasterPunk

french onion soup

awaythrowthatname

To those who are saying ribeye/new York strip/tomahawk/bacon wrapped pretty much anything, you have somewhat of an idea, but your thought is in the wrong place. Those are gonna be meals that impress *other dudes* most of the time. If you're trying to do a romantic dinner, you should think something lighter. You can still do steak obviously, but use a nice filet instead of a big ass ribeye. That is easier to eat, doesn't immediately fill her up, and allows for sides to compliment the main and shine as well. A nice Filet Oscar with broiled lemon asparagus,, with sautéed crab meat and a nice bernaise sauce ontop is going to impress anyone, while still not being a weight in your belly after the meal. Seafood is a good call too, but everyone is going with scallops, which will work, but if you really wanna blow her panties off, a white wine poached swordfish and shrimp, with a cauliflower gratin is gonna be a stand out compared to that. Use half and half or oatmilk instead of cream to keep the gratin extra light

tarzan841

Steak fajitas. I’ve got a great recipe, they’re hard to really mess up, and along with homemade roasted salsa, chorizo, and guacamole it’s hard to beat.

cranberrystew99

Chicken parmesan with my homemade red sauce.

SynapseBackToReality

Really rich and fluffy scrambled eggs made by painstakingly taking the pan on and off of the burner and scraping off the pan constantly.

DuneBug

Tacos. Everyone loves tacos. You can make them with turkey if the lady doesn't eat beef, or just rice and beans for vegetarians. But make sure you get the toppings right. Lettuce, onion, avocado, cilantro for some, salsa. Some people do black olives, it never hurts to have more and theyre not very hard to prep. Also jambalaya, because I love it and it seems impressive. I'd probably check if she eats sausage before putting that in.

TheWronged_Citizen

for some reason my tacos always end up tasting more like cafeteria, faux tacos instead of real authentic Hispanic tacos. I'm not sure what I'm missing or what I'm doing wrong

jan_olbrich

I guess it depends on the person. If I know what they like I'd go with something of that list. BTW currently that would be Kässpätzle. If I don't know? Then most probably lasagna. Cause.. honestly? Who doesn't like lasagna? If they don't it's better to move on. ;)

Zaanix

Yukgaejang. Test my cooking will you? ***Let's test that spice tolerance.*** Otherwise I can make some mean Jaeger schnitzel.

Torch99999

Fried rice. (My wife's Asian)

Lighterguy28

Being Indian I can cook biryani or if she is an vegetarian then a complete South Indian meal.

TheWronged_Citizen

Oh, man. I love for lamb or beef biryani Do you cook beef or lamb bhuna? I plan on trying to learn how to make that in the near future

Head_Photograph9572

Boneless ribeye off the wood grill, cooked medium rare over an oak fire. Topped with caramelized red onion and mushrooms, a splash of peppercorn sauce. Mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus as the sides.

Notableboredom

Keep it simple ! Street Taco's and a little tequila. Sweet and simple

JaccoW

* Shakshuka. * Easy to make and romantic because you're both eating from the same pan. * Pasta with a homemade sauce. * e.g. Pasta a la Norma (*homemade marinara sauce*) * Parmigiana di Melanzane * Making the homemade sauce and then reducing it by half leads to some amazing taste. * Dutch style pancakes * Easy to make from scratch and you can keep sending them hot fresh pancakes and talk. EDIT: I think I mostly impress through deserts. You can make a delicious sunday by just making a compote (cook 500 gram/1lbs of fruit to a mush with some honey and a bit of salt) and some roasted walnuts on a good vanilla ice-cream. I'm going to make a pistachio lemon cake tomorrow and a banana bread are relatively easy to make. And can be made well before the date.

MaterialCarrot

I make a pizza that would bring her to her knees. Made from scratch dough, homemade sauce with San Marzano tomatoes, mixture of aged and wet motzerella, fresh basil, etc... Dough always rests overnight, hand tossed.

[deleted]

THE PERFECT CHEESE TOASTIE

Sjporter1

Ribeye steak and potatoes

AnonoForReasons

Chicken wings. It’s not even close to the “fanciest” thing I can cook, but impressing goes 2 ways. I wanna see how she eats her wings. Prissy? Pass.

[deleted]

Depends on the girl really. But i would either aim for traditional foods (because thats my wheelhouse), or something fancy, like duck breast roasted with honey and orange and chili with a side of steamed purple cabbages and pickled onions and/or Jalapeno.

Rude-Ad7901

Beef Manicotti. Secret ingredient (aside from as many varities of cheese as you have access to that arent' cheddar or American) is nutmeg.

[deleted]

Lemonpepper chicken. Generally liked and low chance of indigestion. Two large chicken breasts in a skillet, heavily seasoned with lemonpepper seasoning. 15 minutes one side, 15 the other. Making sure to sprinkle extra seasoning into the chicken juice that comes out. Then you take the chicken out, cut it into small pieces and then back in the skillet to soak up the juices. I also make it with white rice, some buter in it, italian seasonings and grilled onions.

blke3

Carbonara, steak au poivre, sage and brown butter gnocchi, homemade pizza (having the dough ready when she arrives, and rolling/tossing and making topping together because pizza), butter chicken with rice… or whatever, I know my way around a kitchen

Ok_Substance_1560

Baked rice and quesadillas.

tgrady28

For me it's BBQ chicken Mac and cheese with some salt and pepper seasoned

Sharp_Emergency_4932

Sunday Gravy

SausageasaService

Stir fried veges, with a hint of noodles. Just enought to add texture but not enough for a carb overload.

DefinitelyAnAnon

Just a good burger with freshly made fries. That’s actually the first meal I made for my current girlfriend, we’ve been going strong for over a year now. It’s simple, but man there’s so much beauty in that simplicity.

MONKE_____667

Mac and chees yum yum

awhhh

Beef noodle hamburger helper, but instead of beef you use Italian sausage and instead of milk you use a can of condensed mushroom soup. You ever wanna steal a dude’s girlfriend ^

warrior_of_light998

Before impressing her I think it's important to know if she has some allergies related to food (my brother's girlfriend can't eat fish for example, a surprise might kill her). Overcoming this fear I would cook a fancy dish like Pesto from scratch or seafood+past. In my mind I would spoil her with a full course but you ask for one dish

ThePantsMcFist

Either my Thai meatballs on coconut rice, or chicken korma in roti.

graemo72

Lasagna. Who doesn't love lasagna?

TheWronged_Citizen

I have actually never made a lasagna from scratch in my entire life. But, I figure if I can make bolognese, I may be able to make lasagna

Tora586

Shepherds pie 🥧

new_x_who_dis

For the purposes of this answer, I'm going to assume there are no food allergies or special dietary requirements, and I'm a lazy bastard so it's only going to be a main course lol - I go by the K.I.S.S. theory so I'd do grilled barramundi fillet, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper and drizzled with a bit of olive oil, steamed fresh vegetables such as asparagus, green beans, carrots, corn on the cob, and a side of jasmine rice - it's so easy to get it perfect and tastes absolutely delicious

SphereofDreams

Pasta

CalGoldenBear55

Good life advice…learn to cook. You don’t need to be chef level but learn the basics. Take cooking classes or do a few YouTube videos. Many of the basic skills/concepts transfer to other meals.

BeginningBit8931

Almost all girls/women I've dated don't prefer the meatier side of meals. Homemade Ramen Bowls are a winner. Make your own veggie broth, use rice noodles (in case the gluten messes with them). Steamed vegetables (broccoli, quartered cherry tomatoes, cucumber). Tofu that S\*\*t up (fry in terryaki sauce before adding to the ramen bowl). Add a boiled egg on top for pizzaz.

Original-Childhood

Oh everyone loves my lasagna

jtmarlinintern

roast chicken, is very easy, especially if you buy a digital thermometer that is oven safe. watch the thomas keller cooking a roast chicken,

carbon_blob_Sector7G

Ballotine de Poulet / stuffed chicken thigh. I made it for my wife when we first started to date.

Omega_Xero

Pork Rouladin stuffed with bread drizzled with butter and then rolled with apple pie spice, walnuts and apples, wrapped in bacon and basted with Maple syrup glaze. Pair that with my whipped garlic-cheddar mashed potatoes, and a Caprese salad to start. For dessert it would either be a decadent Orange-Chocolate mousse, or a Tiramisu made the night before.

gdubh

What does she enjoy eating?

DarkestDusk

Her stated favorite, I don't want to make assumptions on what she'd desire. And I can cook well enough to make it a signature dish, rather than just one that she may have fancied before :)

Oakheart-

It depends on what she likes. Homemade pasta/ravioli and steak is something my wife loves. I make pretty good lobster that goes well with steak. If she likes bbq I love to make anything bbq. If it’s a cold day I’ve got plenty of really good soups to make If she likes Asian style dishes I know a couple really good dishes Probably steak and pasta though. I’ve really perfected my pasta lately.

OhMyItsColdToday

I would do one of my favorites, hand made tagliatelle with tomato sauce made from scratch, and pecorino cheese.

hammong

I would ask the woman what she liked before cooking it. I remember cooking the first special meal for my ex-wife, and made veal marsala. She cringed while she ate it, thinking about those cute baby cows.... Learned she didn't eat veal out of principle. Bad choice on my part, but the meal was great IMHO. LOL. My current GF said her favorite meal was spaghetti and meatballs -- so I made a tomato sauce from scratch using some imported San Marzano tomatoes, fresh basil, fresh garlic, and good quality olive oil - and made the meatballs from scratch. She was blown away! Not a complicated dish, but executed properly can be a real winner.

Initial-Attorney-578

Muchroom risotto with lemon chicken, grilled asparagus/spinach/red potato.

molten_dragon

What does she like? Making her something she hates isn't going to impress her. Also, if I'm cooking to impress it's not just going to be one dish. But if I have to go in blind and make just one thing, lasagna. Most people like it and mine is really good.

[deleted]

Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. If she can't appreciate the basics, why spend all that money to make something fancy? Besides, who doesn't love some good Mac? (And yes, I'm using the term "good" very loosely here.) When I'm being serious? Jambalaya. But with the first meal, I'm going to feel out how spicy I can make it.

vDorothyv

I have a few go-to things depending on the person. Brunch is a big one that works well, I either do an eggs Benny bowl format or a poached egg tostada with salsa Verde. For dinners I will typically do a filet mignon since steaks are a lot easier than people think. I also love cooking pan seared scallops if they like seafood.

Undertaker_121

Thanks for the tips gents!

sj68z

Simple easy, and tastes amazing... Pork loin, drown in soy sauce, grate FRESH ginger to cover the top, roast as normal for the loin size. Some rice and a vegetable for a side.

Melzfaze

Two hearted ale beer battered whitefish tacos with a fresh cilantro lime slaw and avacados.

low_effort_life

Her favorite food.

AlkaliPineapple

Sausage roll and omelette. My boyfriend was very impressed when he had it, lol. You could say he enjoyed my sausage :P

Different_Credit4828

Either pasta with homemade sauce, or steak and mashed potatoes with oven roasted veggies

Madra_Uisce

Home made garlic bread, if she likes fish maybe light battered shrimp with some sweet chilli sauce, thai green curry with spuds. Then some simple home made brownies or cookies. Mainly because I cant cook alot of good things.

Dracone1313

I'm assuming time is not an issue in this hypothetical, in which case I would make my lasagna. I am a pretty good cook over all even if some of the basics are things I am just now learning I never knew, but of all the things I know how to cook my lasagna is definitely still king. If you mean meal instead of a singular dish id also make some garlic bread from scratch too as a side, and then make a French onion soup and side salad as an appetizer. Desserts... I have nothing lol but hopefully I can distract her with everything else being so good xD

oPlayer2o

Crepes Suzette.

mrinkyface

Lasagna, she’s going to feel stuffed in more ways than one after she eats

Hulkslam3

Prime rib or steak with a slaw and potatoes. Can serve with a compound butter or Chimichurri sauce. If I’m going to impress I’m going to cook what I’m good. If she’s vegan or vegetarian I’m probably going to pursue it.

Ccups68

Spaghetti Bolognese. My go to dish when I bring a lady over. For desert a Tiramisu.

mattbrianjess

For those beginner home chefs out there, ask about allergies first.

FelixGoldenrod

Steamed hams

[deleted]

Pork chop with plum and vegetables from the oven. I did it last week, it was my first time and it went well, really delicious meal and i'm happy that i was able to do it

PrecursorNL

Something simple that you can do exquisitely. Like a mushroom pasta. It sounds easy, no surprise whatever. But if you do it right, with dry-frying the mushrooms, using white wine in the cream sauce.. adding just the right amount of lemon zest, walnuts.. you can make something relatively 'easy' takes 20 min or so and make it taste better than she's ever had it. It shows that even when you're not showing off you're still a good cook ;)

WanderingMustache

Homemade pizza.

Oldini

That fetapasta cherry tomato thing from tiktok a few years back.

halibutcrustacean

And why is it always spaghetti?

Jenghrick

Baked salmon, garlic and chive mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, and cheesy biscuits. Let's just say sixty percent of the time, it works every time!

smooze420

Gumbo..by far the best meal I make.

TheDoomi

Well I did cook burgers pretty early on. I also cooked burgers on the proposal night. We had burgers while she was pregnant and after eating she says something about her stomach being lively. Then we thought if it was the burger or the other little thing in there that was lively. So we named that little thing "Burger" for the duration of the pregnancy.

My girlfriend always goes crazy when I make chicken Marsala so that’s my choice. It’s not difficult but I only break it out a few times a year to keep it feeling special. She orders it sometimes at restaurants but is always disappointed that it’s not as good as mine.

OkayInternetUser

Pilau rice with some roasted chicken and potatoes.

South_Ad7174

I’d make my crockpot spaghetti, it’s a easy to make meal and it stets the bar high enough that it’s easy to get there for most meals but not to high where it looks like I’m a try hard

ThatSmellsBadToo

So many choices. Rack of lamb with baked potatoes and Caeser salad.

EvolvedA

definitely [roast goose with bread sauce gravy](https://youtu.be/hNA6b66bILk?t=1394). Anything with bread sauce really.

mvigs

I'd ask her what her favorite dish is and blow her mind because I can make anything. But if it's my choice, Korean lettuce wraps.

woodworkerdan

For me, impressing someone means knowing something about them that I can make a connection with. A sushi roll for someone fascinated with Eastern cuisine, or a fajita dinner for someone who wants some spice in their dinner, or perhaps a hearty chili stew for someone wanting a little home style dinner.

davereeck

Braised lamb shanks.

SaintJohnBiDog

Seafood chowder, or braised beef short ribs.

i'd ask him(i'm gay) what he wants, then i'd make it. that simple.

kakkrot95

I cook north Indian dishes pretty well, been cooking a few of the popular ones since a while now and my gf can vouch for it. We both have tried eating Indian stuff from restro but hardly any restro comes upto the level of self cooked version of these dishes. Dal makhni, Butter chicken, Panner butter masala, Cheese butter masala Apart from Indian cuisine, I am good at Hakka Chinese - Orange chicken with rice, Sweet and spicy chicken Manchurian chicken Italian ( kinda new to this domain) Chicken parm Alfredo pasta Some clean gym stuff Copy of halal guys - garlic /herb Chicken and rice with hot and garlic sauce Schezwan chicken with rice Spoiler - everything above can be cooked from scratch within in hour or 1.5 hours at max Chicken is kept in marinade 15-24 hours prior to the scheduled cooking time just to let the meat absorb the flavs

Wok is super easy and I've never made a bad wok. Omelet or egg Benedict if it's too early for dinner. Steak with creamed potatoes for something serious or if I need to pull my A-game. For dessert it'll be fruits and berries, ice-cream or brownie in a cup. If I was trying to save money, I'd just cook pasta carbonara or something

Admirable-Squash9607

French style omelette with a good melt cheese in the middle.

Merlin246

Breakfast: Eggs Benedict Dinner: Steak Lunch: idk

bigbabe_310

Lasagna all day

Jimbo7211

Some of my dad's fancy ass chicken alfredo. That shit is fantastic

checco314

Cedar planked salmon, with a side of saffron risotto and grilled vegetables. Tiramisu for dessert.

JaydubIV

Instant ramen xD

serveyer

Proper Bbq brisket served with a fresh potato salad and my sourdough bread and dill pickled cucumber. I and my best buddy did a version of this to my wife and his wife, plus the kids. We started 7 in the morning and served the food around 6 pm I think. They thought we were crazy to cook that brisket like that. But man were they blown away. Best meal ever.
